We stopped in for dinner with a group of 5 people on a Friday evening. We asked if my two daughters could share one bowl and were told that is not allowed. Then we said they will order one entree off the menu and split that and again we were told that’s not allowed. When we looked at the server like she was crazy, she said her manager doesn’t allow sharing food. That is the first time we have ever experienced not being able to order one entree in a restaurant in Chicago and be able to split it between two people. We have never heard of such a ridiculous rule. My daughters do not eat large meals, they weigh less than 100lbs and prefer to remain that way. In the end, all 5 of us ordered the Create your own bowl option and just like I said, my two daughters were not able to finish even half of their bowls so they had to take it home. The only silverware on the table was a fork for each person, so when I asked for a knife, the answer I received was “I’ll check if I can get one”. What kind of answer is that? The restaurant doesn’t have knives? The server never brought a knife and didn’t mention anything about it again. Also, they didn’t refill our water until we asked for more water. Keep in mind this Create your own bowl option does not allow you to add your own protein, you have to tell the server which two proteins to add to your bowl, for example, Chicken, Sliced Sausage, Pork, or Sirloin Steak. You can add Shrimp, Scallops, Salmon or Ribeye steak for an additional cost. With all of that said, the food was good but I won’t be taking my family to this restaurant again, nor will I meet any friends there for lunch or dinner.

We went for a late lunch around 3:30. Store was pretty slow, but the people there seemed to be enjoying the food. I was impressed with the amount of options they had for the make your own bowl. I got the hellfire shrimp. It said it’d be spicy on the menu, but it was not. It was good but nothing special. Bamboo shoots in my food were very grainy which made them difficult to chew. I don’t think they’re supposed to be that hard to chew but it’s been a while since I had them last. My throat has been extremely dry since I ate my leftovers last night and it was dry after I ate at the restaurant. I think it’s because of how salty the sauce was. It didn’t taste too salty when I ate it though. Food came out very hot so it had been freshly cooked. I felt the signage was confusing for the poke tacos. I asked for “a combo” because I thought it meant I’d get a taco with tuna and crab (based on the way it was written on the sign). My server came back with three tacos which contained a taco with just tuna, one with just crab, and one with both crab and tuna. It was good but for a college student who’s trying to stay on a budget it was a bit annoying. Our server was friendly. When I asked about portion sizes and if it was big enough to share, I was told it’s enough for one person. While this is technically true, the bowls are pretty huge so I was only able to eat 1/3 of my food (I normally finish my food at restaurants). I felt like I was misled just to make the restaurant more money (my friend ordered a second bowl). Bowl could have easily been shared in my opinion. My friend’s food barely had any sauce so it was pretty dry. She had gotten one of the chicken bowls off of the menu. Overall the food was fine but nothing special. Same with service. I’d recommend going somewhere else.

Super friendly staff, delicious fresh food, and amazing drinks. I literally dream about this place I loved it so much- absolutely worth the money to stop by and indulge. There's a huge variety of options for your bowls, as well as a pretty good mix of different drinks. Also, great location just down the street from a train station.

My daughter and I were in from the suburbs and we looked flat top up on Google. It looks great and like a fun place to eat lunch little did we know it was basically a Buffay disguised as a nice classy restaurant the food was absolutely terrible and look nothing. Like the pictures they advertise sirloin steak on skewers but when they send it to you, it’s literally just smashed up meat on skewers very very chewy. The rice was extremely cold And very distasteful!!! on top of that the server had an attitude when I would ask him questions about the food also couldn’t find him half the time when we needed something else we ordered the crab Rangoon dip, and it served with basically a type of Nan bread when you would think it would come with wonton chips or something like that it was absolutely terrible. We literally ate some of it just because we were starving from being out all day. I would never recommend this place it’s disgusting.

I was excited to discover that FlatTop was available to order via UberEats. I ordered the steak skewers over fried rice and was disappointed to receive an undercooked "steak" like substitute over steamed rice. The steak honestly didn't taste like steak and it was chewy and undercooked. How does a stir fry restaurant mess up rice? Was fond of FlatTop at one point but this is disappointing and a previous review that shares the same sentiment with the same order is telling.

Absolutely No Social Distancing rules in place. We were seated at a table right next to other guest. We moved over one table to try to social Distance ourselves and the server still sat someone directly next to us. The entire back of the restaurant was empty so there was no reason to sit everyone right next to each other. When we told the waiter about it, he told us to order take-out next time. We asked for the manager & he did nothing to correct the waiter or resolve our issue.

Create your own bowl with fresh ingredients and many bases, veggies, toppings, and sauces to choose from. The precautions for the pandemic are very good for indoor dining and staff are wonderful. If you want something with meat or a vegetarian meal, you can create what's beat for you! There are also cocktails here for a nice relaxing dinner. The location is also at the heart of the city downtown.

This location need to step up on their personal touch or they will shut down just like the rest of the locations. The pregnant Manager wasn't friendly nor helpful. I asked for a small saucer for my sauce because I like at least 6 scoops of Sweet and Sour..she told me that the sauce goes on top..I told her I know where it goes, it's not my first time..by then the cook was handing me a saucer. I also had a golf ball of chicken which didn't get properly cooked. We asked for thongs for the other (Fresh) side, a young lady said it was closed, while being fully stocked..so we waited patiently and went behind the messy kids.

Interesting concept. Food was fresh and tasty. While my noodles were very hot, temperature wise, the bowl of ramen was merely lukewarm. Still, it was ok. Service was good, quick. Good choices available on the menu.

Worst service that I have ever received, and I used to work here. Maricela provided the worst service, and it was not the first time that she's waited my table and did a poor job. She was slamming things down on the table, and walking away while we were talking to her. I spoke with a manager, and he said and did nothing. Unacceptable. I will never spend my hard earned money here again.

I’m confused on how this location isn’t more cautious during COVID. The bar where you prep your bowl is just open. There should be someone standing there giving all guest hand sanitizer before touching the serving utensil. Or maybe there should be gloves for each guest to put on. But since there weren’t you had many people coming up touching the utensils behind each other. Some, didn’t have fave coverings on. It was not appealing. And I was quite taken aback. Just a perfect place to pass on germs. Just a tip maybe this location could consider. And the cleanliness of this place was just non existing. It was a mess. I slipped on spilled food TWICE. Thank goodness I didn’t fall.

Might just be my new favorite!! All the stars! The food is unbelievable and the new Poke tacos are to die for!! The people are incredibly kind. We have been here for Happy Hour and never had a chance to eat. Made a special effort to be here first thing when they opened before leaving town to make sure finally ate food. Juan, the regional manager, is the absolute best!!

I took myself on a date today (Saturday)the food was just OK it taste like the Chef was rushing to cook our food because it was so busy. I was there around 5:30pm -7:10pm I ordered a Mojito which was horrible sent it back for a Heineken. Did not care for the bartender( not good with customer service) One of the managers African-American female was very helpful. Probably will not return prices are very high.

It’s a good place for those who want to customize their stir fry experience by adding your own sauces and flavors and ingredients. The inside is lovely and you are able to choose separate meat or non meat in addition to adding all the Veges and ingredients that you like. You also have an option to choose a pre listed ready made dish by the kitchen. But I would say it’s more fun to add your own stuff and sauces. The food came out cooked well and hot and the server brings it to your table once you leave your bowl and sauces at the counter. The veges in the buffet style area were not super fresh but the variety was good as well as the sauces. You can add scrambled eggs or white cheese or extra bread to your dish for an extra $0.75 and they will add it for you when they cook your compilation. One piece of Roti bread comes w the $17.99 per person meal (the one you choose your own stuff). Overall a nice experience. The reason I give it 5/5 is solely because of the elevator that they have (!!! Great job) but as for the food … not all the veges were fresh and the bowl you add your veges to is very small so you can’t fit much in it (so add the sauces separately in plastic containers they give you on the side) and for this it’s $17.99 which I think is a bit pricey but it does include 2 meats which they add at the end separately and it was a decent amount). So enjoy! The wait staff were very nice and sweet. There is an elevator inside the restaurant as soon as you enter for about 3-4 steps, which is really fine for people who need assistance with wheelchairs, which I haven’t seen in most restaurants anywhere in the world.

Server had me stand in the waiting area (restaurant was completely empty, as this was 3pm on a weekday) for 15 min, then goes "you're here for a pickup, right?" I said no, and he seated me. Another server (Allyson, according to the receipt) comes up to me and goes "I thought you said you were here for a pick up?" 🙄 Despite the number of tables clearly for dine-in, I guess this restaurant isn't too fond of its dine-in customers. It's Mongolian bbq, so the food is going to be solid. I dunno what is going on with service, because a teenager working a busy McDonald's counter would have more common sense than the servers here. Recommend pick-up/delivery so that you can bypass the truly terrible service. The photo of the empty cup (most of the ice I already ate while waiting for someone, anyone to offer to refill it) as a portrayal of how service was for the rest of the time I spent here.

Flattop never disappoints! I absolutely love the stir fry, choose your ingredients, sauces, meat , rice etc! I always go with 3 to 4 sauces to make the whole bowl more spicy! Reasonably priced , good vibes.

I used to go to Flat Top all the time when they first opened. It’s been a while since I’ve order because of the pandemic so I stopped in today to make a to-go bowl and that’s when my disappointment began. They no longer serve white fish which has been a menu staple since they opened. Strike 1. I pick chicken proceed to make my my bowl. Once I add everything I take it to be dropped off and they no longer have the crispy fried noodles🤦🏾‍♀️. Strike 2 Once my food is read the gentleman rings me out and my total is $21.78! Bowls during lunch time were $9.99. Strike 3. At this point I’m annoyed and over it. I pay and then go back to work. This also includes a $2 discount because it was during Happy Hour. So had it not been for that two dollars off I would have spent almost $25 for not even the same amount of food. My food was good but the experience and price is not worth it. I might come back once more but I can’t get behind doubling the price and removing options.

  • 4/5 Adam L. 3 years ago on Google
Staff was very kind. I wish the bowls they have to fill up were a little larger for the price. Food comes pretty quick after to make your dish. The food I'm the images are the bowls you get after they cook it. The bowl you get is probably half if not smaller to Jenga stack the food to get my money's worth is what you're going to have to do.

Great atmosphere and customer service! Love the fact that you are able to create your own stir fry style meal. From many fresh ingredients to choose from and sauces. Their mango ice tea is very refreshing. Have been coming to this location for many years. You are able to go for seconds for a fair price. They have a fair selection of beers and cocktails.

Owner/manager that night was really really nice. Our server explained the menu and everything really well. Everyone and atmosphere was very friendly and covid safe, and food was given at an appropriate time. Definitely would recommend coming to this place. We also did the make your own stir fry, and that was a very interesting and nice experience! Place was quite clean too :)

It was really fun to build my own bowl. And it was so good! Make sure to add a lot of sauce, and don't pass up on the roti.

  • 5/5 Aizen J. 2 years ago on Google
The place haves a wide variety of vegetables that you can add to your bowl and then get it cooked by the chef. Also the appetizers tasted very well. The line can get very long here so if you want to eat here you may want to do it before rush hour before lunch time.

The food is great but the service can be better. You get to create your own bowl and what goes inside of it/on top of it. It’s a very unique experience and fun for tourists. Even though you get small bowl, pile on as much as you can! It’ll all go into a bigger bowl! $50-100 with drinks and tip. Lower rates without drinks.

  • 4/5 Swapnil V. 1 year ago on Google
A lovely new experience where we could customize our own bowl and they would grill the meat and add cheese to the bowl! The sauce selection is important as it is the key to the taste. They have enough sauces for you to try everytime you visit. Overall an interesting place and it got pretty busy after we got there. Very accessible by foot as well.

The food was really good. We enjoyed the staff. We received our food and drinks really fast. The food could have been seasoned more, and the drinks could have been stronger, but it wasn't that big of a deal. I would still recommend this place for everyone.

This place was used to one of my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Whenever I drop by Chicago I always visited this place and had a nice meal. However, this time it looked a bit different. Maybe it is because of covid. (I didn't come during the covid.) They don't place the meat on the ingredients bar anymore. They let us tell them what meat we want. For me it was fine. I am not a big meat lover but my friend wanted to see and choose. The tables in this restaurant are old and chairs are ripped. Especially the chair made me feel hurt. (I wore shorts so I could feel it directly) We asked to change the seat and we could but we can see the waitress didn't like it. She was not that kind, too. (not rude but not kind) Food was fine as usual but I don't know I want to go again this place anymore.

Great place if you are ink Asian , Thai ; you can make your own bowl ; there are many sauce options available . The regular menu is also good . DO NOt order Skewers - They are Bland with not flavor. You can go with family to have a nice dinner after downtown trip.

The staff and the vibe were great. I enjoyed everything but I won’t lie the food is just absolutely average. No problem on part of the staff and it wasn’t bad. Unless you are coming here for the all you can eat I probably won’t come here again.

Decided to go downtown for a bit to eat, was greeted by Allyson a few moments after being seated. She was fabulous, attentive, and quick to our requests! I ordered Chicken Ramen with Tonkotzu broth. Was flavorful and enjoyable. I wish I would have asked for a little spice, but alas, it was great nonetheless! Next time, I adventure back to Chicago and want some ramen. I will definitely be back!

Didn't try their signature stir fries, which seem fun. The chicken was a bit dry and I expected a better selection of beers for this type of restaurant. The gyozas were nice. The dipping sauces were sweet. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the service is pretty fast.

Good place for vegetarians to customize our own stirfry meal. We came on a weekday afternoon about 4 pm. Mateo (our server) was very helpful in explaining the process for CYO Bowl. The items on the stirfry bar were all appealing and fresh. Sauces and toppings are clearly labeled for spiciness, as well as whether vegetarian. We loved being able to choose from two kinds of noodles, quinoa, black beans, and edamame to be sure we had good proteins. We also paid $0.75 extra for cheese after it was grilled. Served immediately; piping hot! Just the right size serving for us and packed with nutrition. My only "beef" is that two proteins are added after you select your ingredients for your bowl. That's fine for meat eaters, but they don't offer tofu or anything plant-based as a final protein. So vegetarians pay the same price as meat eaters, but receive less overall. Why not have tofu as a "protein" option to finalize the dish since you have it elsewhere on the menu? Or at least not charge extra for egg and cheese if no other proteins were chosen?

  • 2/5 Syeda Adiba N. 3 months ago on Google New
Food was very average, compared to the price. We took 17.99$ bowl where we get to select our own ingredients and they stir fry it for you. I would like it more we could see how the chef stir fries it. The service is average too, probably they were under staffed, we had to wait long for water, or to place our order. They food ingredients counter were not very clean, however i was a staff cleaning it after that. Decorated in red and black, the interior is good. They used iconic chicago painting on the wall. Around 100 people sitting area. They've space to hang the jackets, which was very helpful. Washroom was okaish clean.

This place has gone down hill since the last time I was here 3 years ago. No longer can you get as much meat as you want and now shrimp is an extra $4 per visit along with $4 for unlimited when it use to be free (which set this place apart from the others). Veggies are good and a ton of sauces, but mine and my buddies did not come out with the meat we ordered. Roti bread is still AMAZING!! Still a great place to eat just not what I remembered.

Location used to be good. Just got it for the first time since COVID. Portions are small compared to what they were and food wasn’t made well. Won’t be coming back here. But they do have good vegan meat choices Quality and flavor were not good. Had pickup and came 5 mins after the expected time and the food was Luke warm not even hot. Would recommend investing in containers/processes that retain heat since it’s only carry out UPDATE: I was reached out to by their team and they were very respectful in communicating with me. Thanks for being respectful, I will give it another try in the future

Good food and great quality. However one must go instore and make the bowl in my opinion as if we order the food it never comes what I expect it to. I would always prefer dine in but due to covid situation we tried to order pick up/ deliveries and it was horrible.

One of my favorite restaurants! The only downside is that you can't get your own meat and season it yourself like you used to be able to, so it can be a little bland. Other than that, its always a great experience. I loved the Washington location the best, but since they closed this one will do. Bring a FTG to Orland Park!

It was good to visit flat top grill after a long time in this pandemic, it was only takeout however, and the staff was courteous in offering extra sauces we requested and did a good portion of bowl. They offer to select the ingredients for the bowl and make themselves unlike in the past where picked the items we liked ourselves.

The service was good, but the food was absolutely horrible! I ordered the (ribeye steak & salmon) which was an up charge. You are not allow to order the steak to your satisfaction. It’s cooked well done, done, dead to a piece of dry wood. The salmon was cooked the same extremely dry and not edible. The drinks were so watered down. I’m was extremely disappointed.
