1st time visit and LOVED the food! There's a reason this place comes so highly recommended! We got the tea leaf salad (C02), a coconut curry chicken soup (B03), and I believe the Shan Noodle (B08, not pictured - too delicious I forgot to take a photo). Everything was incredibly delicious, even the soup we got as an appetizer, just plain broth, was amazing. Plus the people are super friendly and helpful and very patient with us while we figured out what we wanted to try. It has a distinct flavor from other foods of Asian origin (Thai, Chinese, etc) though there are similar ingredients. Highly recommend. Also I'd recommend asking for suggestions to try some of their more signature dishes. The restaurant is spacious and well lit, and nicely decorated without being chintzy. There's ample seating and space, good for large or small groups, and family friendly, when it's open for dine-in.

Trying Burmese food for the first time did not disappoint. The owner was very pleasant and welcoming. He assisted us in choosing some of the essential Burmese cuisine. We ordered leh phat thoke (tea leaves salad), moh hin gar, and tofu gyaw. They were all delicious and filling. Prices were fair. They have a private parking lot. I really enjoyed the decor. I will definitely come back and introduce more people to this place. Please support small businesses.

Don't walk...RUN here! Due to staffing shortages, they "aren't" allowing dine-in. But if you're lucky and they aren't busy, they'll let you dine-in, even though you still eat out of take-out containers. DON'T LET THIS DETER YOU!!! It doesn't remotely detract from the experience. We had the tea leaf salad (phenomenal!), the mango chicken (delicious sauce!), and the fried whole tilapia (literally the best thing I've ever tasted barring NONE). There had to be 30 ingredients in the sauce for that fish. The host/owner was incredibly kind and gave great recommendations. He even bought us a round (of diet cokes). 😁 It was our first time having Burmese food, but it definitely won't be the last. Thank you Pa Lian for putting Burmese food on the map in our area!!!

If there was an option to give ten stars, this place will deserve them. The star of your dining experience is the owner. He will provide you with recommendations that are spot on. Try the house specials like tea leaf salad and the tofu dishes. The noodles are sumptuous and the gravy is tasty. You can opt for spice levels. Lots of options for a vegetarian. The best Burmese joint in Chicagoland.

Terrific and unique gem of a restaurant. Take out only right now. Very good food with plenty of VEGAN & Vegetarian options (thank you!!) Menu changes often as they choose in season produce, check the GrubHub menu for most up to date selection. Super friendly & helpful owner/staff, they were happy to help guide my selection and make recommendations. The food tastes fresh and tasty. I especially liked the ginger salad! The food is similar to Thai, but with some very unique offerings and preparations, looking for something new to try instead of the bland and boring? Just give this place a shot!

I've been wanting to try Pa Lian forever- it's rare to find niche places like this that serve less mainstream "ethnic" food, and as far as I can tell this one of the only Burmese restaurants in the Chicagoland area. Also, everyone raves about this place online (5 star rating with ~500 reviews on Yelp), so I was extra excited to try this place out recently. I'm no expert, but in my mind Burmese food is most similar to Thai food (a lot of coconut and curry based dishes), with a stronger Indian influence in terms of spices/flavor profile. The host/owner of the place was very warm in welcoming us in and explaining items on the menu. We started off with a complimentary chicken bone broth soup with fresh green onions in it. This was a very light soup and a nice way to start our meal. For appetizers we ordered to Tofu Gyaw and Tea Leaf Salad- both of these are must try items!! The Tofu Gyaw was phenomenal. It's essentially a fried tofu dish, but not like the fried tofu you get at Chinese/Thai restaurants which I usually find pretty bland. The Tofu Gyaw came out steaming hot and was perfectly crisp on the outside with a soft, almost creamy interior. The inside consisted of tofu made out of chickpeas, which was a surprisingly flavorful combo that reminded me of Indian pakoras. Tea Leaf Salad is a very popular Burmese dish. The tea leaf salad here was made of fermented tea leaves, a variety of fried beans, peanuts, sesame seeds, and tomatoes/cabbage. I loved the array of textures in the salad, ranging from crunchy to soft. The fermented tea leaves themself give a savory, slightly tangy flavor to the salad, which is balanced by the crunchy garlicky flavors of the fried beans and peanuts in the salad. For our entrees we tried the Shan Noodles, Ohn-No-Kauk-Swe, Chicken potatoes curry, and shrimp curry. The Shan Noodles were probably my favorite- it was a noodle dish made of a drier chicken curry, greens, and some other vegetables with a hint of sesame. It wasn't really too spicy, but had more flavor than I was expecting, and I loved the little punch that the sesame added to the dish. Ohn-No-Kauk-Swe was a yellow coconut milk chicken curry based noodle soup with lentil fritters, boiled egg, and onions. I didn't like this dish as much- I felt like the curry flavor wasn't as strong as I was expecting, and I'm not sure that I liked the softer lentil flavor with a more savory curry dish. The chicken/potatoes curry and shrimp curry were both really good. These dishes definitely had the strongest Indian taste to me, with a ginger/garlic/onion based curry. The shrimp curry was a little sweeter than the chicken curry, but both were savory and hit the spot. Overall, Pa Lian is definitely a must-try restaurant in the Chicago suburbs. The owner was so warm and welcoming, and spent a lot of time telling us the story of himself and the restaurant. Places like this really need people's support during the COVID-pandemic. I highly recommend stopping by! It's truly a gem and won't disappoint.

Fantastic food and service, I lived in Myanmar for many years and this food is very authentic and delicious. I highly recommend the Shan noodles, Coconut noodles, Mohinga, Tomato and TeaLeaf salads. My biggest recommendation is to just ask! Burmese food can be intimidating and the owner is more than happy to help you navigate the menu. In the end, if you are looking for a unique dining experience dont pass up Pan Lian.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant in Chicago, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of the experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming staff who made me feel right at home. The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with a charming ambiance that perfectly complements the delicious food. Speaking of which, the menu at Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant is truly something special. The dishes are authentically Burmese and bursting with bold, complex flavors that will transport your taste buds to another world. One standout dish that I highly recommend is the fermented tea leaves salad. It's unlike anything I've ever tasted before - a perfect blend of sweet, sour, and savory flavors that come together in a truly unforgettable way. And if you're in the mood for something comforting, you absolutely have to try the mohinga. It's the ultimate comfort food, with a rich, flavorful broth that will warm you up from the inside out. One thing I really appreciated about Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant is that there are plenty of healthy options on the menu as well. It's clear that the chefs take great care in selecting fresh, wholesome ingredients and creating dishes that are both delicious and nourishing. Overall, I can't recommend Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant highly enough. The staff is fantastic, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the food is simply outstanding. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Burmese cuisine or just looking to try something new, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. We loved it so much that I'll definitely be coming back soon!

It was my first time trying Burmese food and it was great! I got the Rah-Khine Mot-Tee which is like a fish based noodle soup. For people that like the more spicy tangy soups, this will be right up your alley. I also tried the Tea Leaf Salad which was great. Definitely recommend!

Met up with a friend for lunch and it was our first time having Burmese food. We shared the fried tofu and samusa which were both great. I had the KaukSwe Thoke with beef and it was nice and spicy. Would highly recommend and can't wait to come back to try more of their food.

The reviews don’t lie - the food and service is just amazing. We have been calling this restaurant for last one year to check when they would start Dine In. It was our first time visit and LOVED the food! There's a reason this place comes so highly recommended! Everything was incredibly delicious, even the soup that was served as complimentary. Don't forget to try the Tea Leaf Salad. It's a must order 😊 I would definitely come again and try the other dishes on the menu.

This is truly one of the best restaurants - if not THE BEST - in Chicagoland. We discovered Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant at the beginning of the pandemic, when we were looking for new takeout options. The reviews don’t lie - the food and service is awesome, and somehow gets better every time we go. They have a ton of vegan options and are about to launch a vegan menu. If you have questions about the menu, just give them a call they’ll guide you through the menu! Pictured here is the Tomato Salad (C08), Udon Noodles with Burmese Dressing (Nan-Gyi-Thoke B07), and Mango Tofu (D03 - the tofu is made in house!). Not pictured bc we destroyed it - the Spring Roll Salad (C09).

Honestly when I first arrived, I was skeptical because it was new to me. Now, I'm glad I didn't leave. From the time my friends and I gathered at the table to the time we left it was very friendly. It was a nice touch to see water bottles, instead of glasses or cups, on the table. The owner was our waiter too and had above average and beyond exceptional customer service and multitasking skills with my friends and I. I told the owner I couldn't eat spicy food and ,also being the cook , he made the shrimp salad dish sweet instead of spicy. I told him that the day before was my birthday and he brought out a slice of green tea cheesecake for me, which was free of charge. I highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you.

Lovely place, excellent service, and authentic cuisine. If you ask for spicy, be prepared. Your taste buds will remember the journey through the Burmese flavors and spices used in their dishes. The green tea cheesecake was delicious and a welcomed balance to finish off the meal. The service was impressive, only one person attending to six tables at once, easily and with great attitude. Thank you, it was great!

Surprise that the restaurant is restrictive and tried to be contactless: scanned menu and served bottled water. Ordered Tea leaf Salad, Mohinga (rich curry stew) which are good. The marinated Chicken. Is average. Pricey for the portions they serve. Friendly service.

This gem was suggested by a friend! Definitely a hidden one in this strip mall. Pa Lian is newly renovated. We got there during their soft reopening. This was our first time trying this place, and it did not disappoint. The owner was running the place by himself along with the chef in the back. He quickly got us seated and explained to us everything would be in take out boxes due to soft opening. My husband and I did not mind at all. Afterall, food is food, as long as it’s tasty! 1. Appetizer - samosas - comes in 3 pieces filled with finely diced potatoes, eggs and curry seasoning. Not spicy at all. Very flavorful! Our 4 year old loved it! 2. House soup - not pictured - chicken bone soup 3. Shan Noodles - rice noodles with peanut sauce, chicken, fermented black beans, green onions, sesame. Another dish my 4 year old devoured. She kept wanting more. Dish full of flavors, not spicy, and light! 4. Goat Curry - this came with white rice, we ordered this with medium spice. The spice does not hit you til later!!! Goat was very tender, seems like it was slow cooked all day. Along with the goat, there’s pieces of potatoes in there as well. Highly recommend! We had such a good experience. The owner was very accommodating. Food was fresh and delicious! We cannot wait to go back again! This will be on our rotating list of places to go! Pro Tip: this place is BYOB!!! There’s a Jewel next door to purchase your beverages prior!

This is an amazing restaurant! It was my first time trying Burmese food, and I absolutely loved it! We had the Burmese tea leaf salad, fried tofu as an appetizer, and ohn no kauk swe (noodles with creamy chicken soup) and all of them were very good and authentic (according to my bf who lived in Myanmar before). Highly recommended. I can't wait to go back and try something else soon.

In the U.S., Burmese food is tough to find if you’re not on the West Coast. If you live in or near Chicago, check out Pa Lian Burmese Restaurant in Wheaton. My wife and I went there for lunch earlier this week. We made a special trip from Milwaukee, that’s how excited we were to eat Burmese food again. We have had tea leaf salad at many places in San Francisco and Pa Lian’s salad ranks with those. It’s safe to say we’ll be eating at Pa Lian again, sooner than later. It’s worth the trip! Pictured below: broth, fried yellow tofu appetizer, and tea leaf salad.

We asked the waiter for recommendations based on our preferences, and he picked stuff for us with no hesitation! The food was great, and the service, too! We came back! Their salads are flavorful and awesome. We are vegan and appreciate that there are many vegan options. Our favorite was the vegan pasta dish. The chickpea tofu appetizer was awesome, too. We came back to try more:) One of their dishes had beyond meat in it. It's good, but we wish they actually used impossible, because it's more similar to beef. Beyond meat just tastes like beyond meat. So, definitely try the accidentally vegan salads first (as was also recommended by the waiter)

We went as a group of four and we are no stranger to different Asian cuisines, but it was our first time trying Burmese. It was absolutely amazing! We ordered every single appetizer: the fried chickpea “tofu”, samusa, and fried bread were all delicious. The coconut chicken soup was so flavorful. We ordered two noodle dishes and enjoyed them both, along with the ginger salad. The mango chicken was also to die for. We told the owner/server we all liked spicy and everything was spiced perfectly. Hot enough, but not too much to ruin the tastes of the actual flavors. Next time I’ll be trying the tea leaf salad and desserts, as we simply had no more room this time! Highly recommend!

Can't recommend Pa Lian enough. I stumbled across the place doing a quick google search, and was excited to try Burmese food as I am unfamiliar with the cuisine. It was excellent! I had the tea leaf salad and the fried tofu; they were both on point. The food was so good I decided to go back the next day and had the ginger salad as well as mango tofu. Again, both dishes were excellent. On top of the quality food, the customer service was fantastic. I had a great conversation with the owner and he remembered me from the first time I came in.

Took my friend from out of town as we were both excited to visit a Burmese restaurant. For myself, it was my first time having Burmese food. We did takeout as they weren't allow indoor dining at this time. The person assisting us was super nice, jovial, and friendly. We ordered the Burmese samosas, the spicy Shan noodles and it was soooooo good and appetizing. I would absolutely recommend this place and hope that you make efforts to try places like these.

I stopped at Pa Lian recently during a work trip. I am Burmese and spoiled with good Burmese restaurants in my home state. All the context to say, Pa Lian blew me away. I ate mohinga and the chickpea tofu salad. Both dishes as well as traditional Burmese condiments were incredible. I highly recommend this restaurant. Worth the drive from wherever; I came out from th city for it!!!

Definitely must try. One of the very few Burmese food places in Illinois. Me and my girlfriend were craving Burmese food and went all the way there from Chicago. Food was great, made with care by the kind owner and his wife. The noodle dishes are a must try. Emphasis on the "Nan Kyee Tote" noodle dish, a combination of spicy, sour and savory. Never stop improving the food!

Who could have guessed Burmese food was so delicious?!? Had not had this ethnic food before and was open to adventure. Went there over the July 4th weekend with my partner and again on Wednesday for dinner with friends. Tried different appetizers, salads, and entrees each time. Each dish brought subtle and well balanced flavors to savor. A most satisfying delight! The service was welcoming and warm. The atmosphere clean and relaxing. Looking forward to future visits!

I’m not personally vegetarian, but I have enough loved ones that are that I’ve grown to love vegetarian food. So many places just serve foods with meat subtracted and call it vegetarian, but once in awhile you come across a true vegetarian masterpiece. Such a masterpiece exists in Wheaton, in the form of the spectacular Tea Leaf salad at Pa Lian. I am sure that the entire menu contains multiple such masterpieces, but so far that salad is so good we haven’t been able to move past it on the menu. I’ve heard that fermented foods are the hot new health thing, and I hope that’s true because the tea leaves in this salad are fermented and if eating them is what the cool healthy people do then I’m gonna live forever because they are delicious. The salad has just the right amount of crunchy texture and they don’t skimp on the size. The owners are kind & friendly, the type that make you really glad you chose this place to order takeout from today. The last time we went, the owner suggested that if we drink, a beer is the perfect pairing for this salad. He was right! Most salads can’t rightly be called comfort foods, but on a beautiful day this delicious salad from Pa Lian nails it.

This was our first time trying Burmese food! The restaurant is tidy and the owner was welcoming and attentive. The fermented tea leaf salad had interesting flavors and texture, I would recommend this to all newcomers. The moh-hin-gar's broth was delicious as well. We also ordered the chicken shan noodle which had a nice kick of spice. Overall, we had a great time experiencing the new dishes and flavors. Since it was just my husband and I, we couldn't order more. We'll have to try the tofu gyaw the next time we visit!
