ASK FOR AN ITEMIZED RECEIPT BEFORE YOU LEAVE!! After a 6 hour wait in the Emergency room, I was finally taken to an examination room. To say it was dirty is an understatement - there was a used cotton swab on the floor, the walls were stained, but when you are in pain you forgo these details and focus on the care. The staff was polite and made sure to keep me informed, asking for my permission to do certain tests and examinations. Unfortunately, the diagnosis I was given was wish-washy and confusing at best. I was told to monitor my body and rest. What really ruined what is already a hard situation - the bill. Before being discharged, I asked for an itemized receipt of all services my insurance would be billed. My request was denied, and what I got instead of an "Estimated Patient Financial Summary" which stated the level of my emergency and the estimated charge of $1,600. What my insurance provider was billed however was a $3,000 charge for a level 5 emergency. I disputed the charge with physical evidence in hand, how could they not rectify the situation? How naive! About a week after my dispute was filed, a call finally came, requesting my payment of the full value of the bill. The dispute - rejected, options to speak to another representative about it - rejected. So now I take this to my insurance where I will appeal the charge and present all of the evidence on hand. One thing is for sure, I will never step foot in this hospital again. Being sick is hard, being taken advantage of is harder.

I brought my 72 year old mother into ER today at approx 12:30 pm. She is disoriented and has anorexia. We were called into triage by an absolutely rude, aggressive and insensitive man with a purple jacket by the name of Steve. I told him I didn't like how he was speaking to my mother or me. He treated us like inmates and not paying patients. He was aggressively unapologetic and walked off. I asked to speak with a supervisor and no one came. I refuse to let this go. How can you feel confident to leave your loved one in the hands of someone speaking like this in an open forum. You would have to wonder what he would do when no one's watching. I was told he's a volunteer. Why volunteer as a senior to mistreat other seniors or anyone for that matter. I would like an outcome or explanation for allowing someone like this to engage with the sick people.

If you are getting cancer treated, they are incredible! My wife was treated so kindly and well during our first visit. If it recurs (like my wife's did) and you decide not to seek to extend your life to suffer, expect to be their last priority after other patients and their weekends and holiday celebrations (speaking from experience). If you aren't making them a lot of money, they treat you like $#!&...

Very scary after dark: Video cameras in rooms. Security guards. Patients crying out in pain. Angry nurses and doctors in understaffed departments. Long, empty hallways and no answer to your call button. Search and seizure of private property without consent. No psych support! That's what the security guards are for-- they are cheaper than actual psych care workers. This was not an example of a "top-10 hospital." They claim they want 6 stars out of 5.

If I could give this “Emergency room” a 0 stars I would. This place is ridiculous. The girl upfront checked the blood pressure with an extra large cuff on a small arm. Which gives an inaccurate reading. I asked for a smaller cuff she said that one was fine. They’re more worried about your ID and insurance before they even ask what’s wrong. You can be dying but they need your cards first. I can go on and on. The point is that it has terrible customer service. No one cares and no one cares to help.

I’ve been sitting in the emergency room waiting for 4 hours with a catheter in my arm. I’ve been told it’s going to be another 3-4 hours and if I leave and come back before 3 hours my spot is loss. The 6 security professionals also removed a homeless person from the lobby, then taunted him through window, and shouting never come back here. This is a hospital, who are you to tell someone never to come back? Appear to be more people working security and front desk than individuals who can actually treat people. Very disappointed with the security staffs humanity and empathy for that homeless person and the staffing to think waiting 7+ hours is an acceptable business model. Shame as I’ve had mostly positive experiences with northwestern until this.

There are no words to describe the incredible care that I have received. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is by far the best hospital in the Chicago area. All the staff members are beyond belief, very professional, kind, unbelievable!!!

If you're trying to see a doctor at NM for the first time, good luck! Depending on how good (or popular) that doctor is, you may have to wait 4, 5 and even MORE months to see them! The wait time is ridiculous! Just today I tried scheduling an appointment with a doctor in the Geriatric Clinic. Earliest opening? In 7 months!!! Hey Northwestern, if you are so busy, do one of two things: hire A LOT more doctors OR clearly state on your website that certain doctors have a very limited availability (do not accept new patients). A doctor who is UNAVAILABLE for 7 MONTHS should not be listed on your website as "Accepting New Patients". NO ONE should wait more than 3 months to see ANY physician. If you are someone who has previously used NM and especially have a NM PCP, you might be good. Anyone else: look for medical help ELSEWHERE. Finally, I suspect that NEW patients might be prioritized based on the kind of insurance they have. I wouldn't put that past Northwestern Medicine... There is a difference between a government health policy (something like Medicare or Medicaid) AND a commercial policy. Guess which policy they might prefer...

I use Northwestern for all the serious stuff. I had OK gynecological surgery. Well done, minimal scarring, no issues post op. I also delivered my baby here. I've had none of the issues that I've heard of other people at other hospitals having. They honored my birth plan, the birthing and post birth suites were nice, clean, and private. Amazing view. Decent food for hospital food. A good food court. I can tell that the doctors are busy but still to to make time to make sure you feel heard.

Sad excuse of an ER. I’m not blaming anyone specifically or any staff specifically either. Staff is overwhelmed by the insane amount of people at this ER and the lack of space available and doctors available. I have never seen so many homeless and mentally ill people in one spot taking up majority of the waiting room from 10pm on a Thursday to 2am on Friday morning. I left at 1:30ish AM because I realized I am never going to be seen by a doctor let alone get a room for my condition. I have acute pancreatitis I am supposed to be given a room to monitor my levels and also given IV. However none of that was possible today since I have never seen an ER drag so much in administering care. The nurse told me that several people were still ahead of me and that they have been waiting 7-8 hours. 7-8 hours for ER care is insane! That’s not even ER at that point. An expensive mistake I will never ever make again. DONT GO TO NORTHWESTERN FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES

UPDATE: I called Patient Relations last week. I spoke to Haley who did an intake and I provided her my information and my complaint. I have not received a call from anyone yet. Dr. Peesay did finally contact me via a message, however she did not address some concerns. Me deciding to go to a primary at Northwestern has been a nightmare. Starting in 2024 I changed insurances and now I can come back to see specialists in Northwestern. One major change I made was changing primary care doctors, I wanted a doctor at NW. I was in disbelief to find out how hard it was to get an appt with an Internal medicine doctor, with some, appts were 9 months to a year out. I was working with the customer call center on trying to find a doctor. There was nothing, then all of a sudden, she found me an appt with an Internist for Jan 15. These Internists work with the doctors and at the end of the appt the doctor will come in. I thought eventually I would get to transfer to that doctor permanently. My Internist is Dr. Tejasvi Peesay and the doctor is Dr. Jordana Friedman. Today I found out that's not the case that I can make that change. Yesterday I get a message on Mychart from someone named "Tomorrow". I had left a message asking for a Physical appt with Dr. Friedman. I was told I have to stay with Dr. Peesay. I had bloodwork taken and to this day Dr. Peesay has not called me about my results which I did see in Mychart. In my appt she said she would be calling me. Additionally, why these doctors are not in Mychart is ridiculous. I was told I have to call and leave a message with customer service if I want to contact the doctor. I am in disbelief and so disappointed about this whole experience, especially because it's Northwestern.

Do not come here for treatment! Try UChicago or Rush hospitals instead. I learned a very expensive lesson. I had a sore muscle in the arm. Was directed to ER. Had to wait for almost 5 hours. Once it was my turn, a doctor examined my arm physically and so casually for about 5-10 minutes. There were no other testing or any special treatment. I was told to go home and take Advil. Then to my disbelief, a bill of $1,120 was presented to me. I was completely shocked. This must be a scam but i had no choice but to pay with my own money. Until today i still cannot understand how NW hospital was highly rated. The treatment was so mediocre but the charge was absurdly and unethically expensive. I really feel sorry for the patients in the Chicago area.

I was there for 14 hrs last night. The staff kept saying they were packed that they didn't have any rooms. But when I was finally taken upstairs there was rarely any patients in any room so I don't understand how this hospital still standing. The other thing is that I don't have anything against homeless people I used to be one years ago with my kids. Anyway there just taking space not even on waiting list to be seen and at a certain time they close a waiting area and there's no room to wait mind you the reason why I went was because I have been on my period heavy bleeding and cramps for the past 3 weeks. The staff do not care what you're going thru there just laughing and chatting like nothing. To top it off every time they called names those people where already gone but they wouldn't be removed the hours past and again they would come out calling their names again knowing that tose people where already gone. I'm really disappointed because my insurance and I are being charged for those 14hrs and plus what I had to spend on parking. I seriously don't recommend it. And truly disappointed.

The receptionist, her badge said Sheila T., was extremely rude and giving attitude. She directed me to speak to the nurses inside the Emergency Room who were no help and once again received attitude from. I get it they’re under a chaotic environment and stress but i never once was rude to them. I just asked if I was allowed to see my dad who was rushed to the emergency room. I was told to go talk to the receptionist a second time and she told me without me mention his name or anything, the first time I just asked to see my dad who was brought into the emergency room and was told to go talk to those two nurses, that he was not allowed visitors. I told her I had not even mentioned his name. That’s when she said “okay what’s his name”. She was so unprofessional and extremely rude. I just waited in the lobby until the rest of my family showed up and they had talked to the receptionist and once again she directed them back to the two nurses who had been rude to me the first time. Once we were able to talk to the two nurses at the desks in the emergency room, the guy whispered to the other nurse who then told us only one of us could see him and kept repeating it treating us like we were not capable of understanding what she was saying. Then once again they told us to go talk to the receptionist and my brother was explaining what the two nurses had told him and the nurse was now giving attitude back to my brother and that’s when I had enough and told her, why the attitude? She then started imitating me and being extremely rude giving me dirty looks. After she gave us the information we asked, I had thanked her for being kind and helpful and she then started telling me to shut up. I’m only at this hospital because it was the closest to us.

Unbelievable charge for the ER here! I went to the ER to get a rabies vaccine on Nov 28, 2022. After waiting for a couple of hours, the doctor, who's really nice, took a look at the scratches and told me it was unnecessary because the scratches were superficial and rabies was rare in IL. Then after I got home I get 2 bills together charging for $521.9 after the insurance ($1050 originally) . The bill didn't show for what I was charged that amount. I filed a dispute thinking there could be some mistakes. This morning, a lady, who was a bit impatient, told me that's the amount I had to pay for seeing the doctor and urged me to pay the bill. No doubt I was bit naive going to the ER... I'm a Chinese and was new here... In the top hospital in Shanghai, having a doctor look at you costs around 25 RMB (~$3.5)... Besides, you know how much you will be charged before the treatment. It just doesn't make any sense to me. The charge is for what? And I don't think it's for paying the staff. In the call, the lady told me a $450 bills ($900 without insurance) is for seeing the doctor, but the doctor spent no more than 5 min on me. I really don't think the hospital will pay that amount to him. And more importantly, When we're sick we should go to the hospital. Being stoped by the charge, when it's so unfordable, could make things worse. Besides, I have this feeling that the hospital didn't show service details on the bill on purpose.

The Emergency Room is the worst in ILLINOIS!!!! They have you sit and wait in pain for five -ten hours in an uncomfortable chair! I have been coming to northeastern for 23 years. I have seen northwestern rebuild and expand however it doesn’t seem to benefit the people. How can northwestern expand the emergency room and have longer wait time than before. The costumer service is horrible as well. I’m already sick now I gotta deal with a nurse who has an horrible attitude! It’s time to go else where!

The staff have be confrontational with patients losing their patience with being undeserved with health insurance. The waiting room was so crowded every seat in the lobby was full with er patients and the homeless sad. Please do better

I really appreciate this hospital. I attend several departments here, from internal medicine, endocrinology, ophthalmology, pulmonology - a fairly wide range of care. My experience in some specific instances hasn’t been perfect but that’s hard to ask for - overall it has been a high-quality experience with high-quality care. The fact that my care is coordinated under one overall system is helpful and streamlines my care; the MyChart App is a user-friendly resource!

My sister was transferred to the ICU from a community hospital in the western suburbs. She was unconscious, was on a vent and had multiple health issues. As her POA, the doctors and nurses kept me well informed. The most wonderful part was that they let me stay 24/7 with her as I lived in the far western suburbs and the daily commute would be horrible. The ICU floor has a clean family room shower and they let me sit/sleep in the room with her. The ICU chairs were a bit uncomfortable but it had a window sill that was wide enough to sleep on my side. The staff brought me a pillow and blankets and were extremely nice. Every procedure was explained and they were able to successfully address my sister's medical issues. The transplant team came in and explained that she should be monitored because she would eventually need a transplant. They explained what insurance she'd need for a transplant and gave us a lot of wonderful information. My BIGGEST regret is that we didn't go to Northwestern for the transplant because it was too far (and admittedly scary) to drive during rush hour. I will regret that decision the rest of my life. Instead we went to RUSH where they put in a liver that went to cirrhosis in 6 months and have since learned that wasn't unusual for RUSH.

Absolute worst ER! I was admitted at 7:00 p.m. and it’s now 1:25 a.m. as I write this review. I am in an examination room waiting for the doctor to see me, so far I’ve only met with the PA. I was called into the examination room a little after midnight—still waiting on the doctor. This is the most unprofessional hospital I’ve ever been to. The waiting room is not clean. In fact, a man in a wheelchair urinated on himself three times. Streams of urine poured from his wheelchair. I told a nurse about it, but he did nothing. I am disheartened at what I’ve seen by the staff and the lack of care needed to maintain a humane and efficient ER. Visitors are treated like cattle, and the wait times are disgraceful.

I had a partial lobectomy (lung removal) performed by Dr. Kalvin Lung in July 2021. My experience couldn't have been better. First, Dr. Lung is the kindest and most caring doctor I've ever met and his nurse Kim is also. The surgery was a complete success. The care I received from the nursing staff during my hospital stay was good as was the food. I was also impressed by the rapid response from staff when monitors revealed I was having an "a fib" moment. My release from hospital, complete with arrangement for home health care, oxygen, and future appointments, was seamless. I am so happy that Northwestern Medicine has become the major heath care provider in my town Huntley where I also have a great oncologist in Dr. Wan, a caring primary Dr. Hoffman, and other doctors, so it's much better and easier than having to deal with multiple providers.

I cannot put into words how amazing this hospital is. I found their compassionate bedside manner and dealing with our family exceptional, especially during a global pandemic. They were especially proactive when preparing for a family member (an incoming critical patient from another hospital) and kept us informed every step of the way. The ICU doctor and nurse, well, I don't really know how best to describe them except they are angels on earth. Literally. Thank you for delivering difficult news with compassion and empathy, but transparency as well. Every other hospital avoided these difficult conversations and it was helpful in getting the closure we needed.

Quality of care is hit or miss, depending on what doctor you see. I have a great psychiatrist, and had an outstanding surgeon for a serious procedure, but have also had such lousy neurologists and cardiologists I may as well not have even gone to the appointments. But their real problem is billing. They double bill. They bill scheduled offices visits as "emergency" (including labs). Billing dept staff treats you like dirt and you have to fight for months to get proper charges. Try getting an itemized bill from them - it's like winning the lottery if they come through. And I say this as someone who has gone to N'Western for 17 straight years for all health care and paid everything in full and on time for all those years. It used to be better. Now I feel that if you go there, you'd better have a lawyer.

A very good hospital, but from this point on everybody having the COVID-19 and if anyone coughing inside or sneezing. I recommend for the hospital staffs to be on point, and to have security bothering people who is sneezing and coughing without mask on, other than bothering and harassing me whenever I need their service.. If a hospital staff nurse tell a patient they are allow to relax until a social worker come inside when they are arriving at work during work hours. Those security are not the police, and half of them are already violating the rules and regulations.

If I could give a negative rating I would. My daughter-in-law was here for 3 days and it was an unbelievably awful experience from the moment we entered the ER until we were discharged. The only excellent care was by Liana, RN on the 13th floor. She was outstanding. And she really cared, and it showed. We will never go back.

Upon reading the reviews of this hospital I see nothing but negative but I experienced something absolutely different. I came to the hospital because I didn't trust the judgment of Saint Anthony's hospital. The wait time was exceedingly long. I kind of felt I've been forgotten in my room but when it was finally my turn to be treated they treated me with the most care and respect and love.

Got terrible phone assistance. Had to wait an hour then 10 min then got transferred 5 times, most people rude or sarcastic. Which if you are dealing with people with cancer or other issues your should be a little more human. You shouldn’t advertise that you help people and have financial assistance if you don’t or you should train your customer service reps and make sure they know what you offer.

I just had my first baby a few days ago and the quality of care has been incredible and always done with a professional and caring attitude from every member of staff we encountered. Completely agree with another reviewer who said "Northwestern compared to other hospitals in Chicago deserves 5 stars, as the others are terrible in comparison." After a horrible experience at Weiss Memorial Hospital (zero stars) I went to Northwestern for a much-needed second opinion. All because the doctor I was assigned to, a 30-year veteran and the unprofessional nurses, left me by myself for 7 1/2 hours in excruciating pain without saying one word to me, I was just ignored! Now onto NW..the thing I liked most about my experience was how well everything was organized, from the way the registration process was handled, to the intake, and more importantly, to the efficiency of the doctor I was assigned to. An energetic and highly capable Resident by the name of Dr. Megan Chenworth, and a nurse by the name of Kira (sorry don't know her last name). I liked that I was seen almost immediately by the doctor, and carted off within a matter of minutes to the x-ray department, and then finally told by the why I was in so much pain. The reason being, my ankle was broken in 2 places, the right and left side, with some ligament damage. It really hurt and still does, 8 days later. Another observation, they're very big on team-work here, there's no pettiness, or look of disgust when you try to ask them a question. You don't get that sarcasm, or quizzical look that comes from some workers at other hospitals, like Weiss! I'll never go back to Weiss, but instead go back to *Northwestern for future visits. P.S. this is the second time in 2 years I've gone to Northwestern and can definitely confirm it was just as good as the first time!

Quality of care and service is highly, highly dependent on the specialty you’re seeing here. Their oncology is #1 in the state for a reason and absolutely the best place to go for cancer care. Truly amazing teams and the best doctors and nurses I’ve ever had. Imagining is also incredible, at least with the techs. Every scan I’ve had has been a wonderful experience and truly exceptional. The other departments I’ve experienced here are lacking. Orthopedics - doctor was over an hour late to my appointment, spent 5 minutes with me, had zero bedside manners. I reas the notes after and they were full of unprofessional remarks that gave the sense he didn’t care at all about my care and was dismissive. It’s not the attitude I would expect from an attending physician, or at least not one that actually wants to work there. The facility themselves are very hit or miss in terms of accessibility. I use mobility aids and while much of the hospital is accessible, a lot of it isn’t. Arkes pavilion only has accessible bathrooms on two floors and multiple hallways that are not wide enough for mobility aids. I had to stop seeing my psychologist there simply because the there were no automatic doors on his floor, including main hallways. If you’re in Illinois and need cancer care, especially for rare or advanced cancers, there is no better place than northwestern. For every other specialty, it’s very hit or miss and most often seems to be miss. If you need orthopedic specifically, go to Rush.

My mother has been waiting in the emergency room since 11am. The staff is really rude! It’s now 7pm and my mom still hasn’t seen a doctor. I go in to ask about her wait status & they said someone came out & called out for her. They lied! We haven’t left and no one has called out her name. One of the staff had the audacity to tell me “I’ll tell them you’re back. We called her name a few mins ago.” Worse hospital experience ever!

Please take my advice very very seriously as well as others, DO NOT COME HERE unless it’s an emergency emergency. A ridicules 7-8 hour wait time!! Are you kidding me! That’s a whole gah damn work shift for crying out loud. This is absolutely ridiculous, they need to hire a lot more doctors, so please again I tell you. Save it! Worst medical experience of my life. You start off by waiting hours for routine medical care in a disgusting waiting room. Then when you are finally able to get medical attention you are seen for a matter of minutes. Then they employ their fraudulent billing practices charging well above the average and what is reasonable. I hope that others can take from my horrible experience and never go to this awful hospital.

It is unfortunate that I have to give them such a low rating based on the terrible and insensitive actions of 2 very unprofessional employees. IF POSSIBLE AVOID THE 2nd floor of the Feinberg building. LaneeshaG. and Britanny both caused my underage daughter to have a panic attack. We were there visiting her father who is awaiting a transplant and very ill. She momentarily forgot the password. So I returned with her and attempted to tell them. They refused to acknowledge us. Even when we got the very kind and helpful transplant team on the line to help assist us they ignored us and continued to talk and laugh amongst themselves.. and gossiped about a fellow male coworker. After growing tired of their lack of professionalism we walked down to the 1st floor and were then followed by Laneesha who then told the receptionist some nonsense. Luckily Erma was very professional and kind and helped us to get the passes to see my husband. At this point my daughter was still crying and breathing heavily and rapidly. This didn't stop Laneesha from going up 14 floors to continue to antagonize us and try to further prevent us in seeing my ailing husband. How was that even necessary? The nurses on the floor all knew us as we have been in and out of there for over a month during different stays. Just a horrible experience on already such a tough time in our lives. Look I'm not looking for anyone to go above and beyond...just some basic human decency and courtesy would be greatly appreciated.

This is the second time in three months that I had an appointment with provider that was not completed or honored on time. I’ve been a patient here for over 10 years. The quality of service has gone down tremendously. In my opinion. They are no longer the best hospital in Chicago shop around people because I have begun to. I had an appointment scheduled for today went in 30 minutes early to check in etc. only to sit there for an hour and a half not to see the provider I just walked out. They are totally disrespectful to peoples time effort and energy. They totally wasted two days of my PTO. I cannot get that time or money back. Thanks for nothing.

We are from out of town and came to Chicago to assist our daughter for school. Unfortunately, my husband took ill and had to be admitted. We are currently here now, and thus far, the care is exceptional. I am fearful, for my husband, and our family and I do not want to leave my husband of thirty years alone in the hospital. I am a masters prepared nursing supervisor and I am fully aware of the COVID restrictions, visitors restrictions and policies surrounding overnight stay. Administration has the final call on this topic, and I was just informed by the nursing administrator Abby, I would be allowed to stay another night ( this wold be the second night) but if my husband is here past tomorrow night I will NOT be allowed to stay. Again, we are from out of town, and my husband should not be alone. Administration has the final say and what they are saying to me in this moment of fragility for my family is typical of the system to ensure they keep our families separated, and to exert their authority/dominion over us. This is the ultimate display of supremacy. Thank you to the ED staff! GOD Bless us all.

After going to ICU on 8 th floor for 2/3 weeks visiting a relative I was very impressed by the entire staff and their professionalism. It is at the leadership level. The waiting room is very nice and all personnel up to your area is wonderful. However you are failing at keeping your bathrooms in order, they are not cleaned or being checked. If IDPH saw them they would not be happy. Please address this issue immediately.I did not know another way to address this matter.

Been here since 2pm- car accident and cut finger. It is now 9:30 and the only one that seems to be doing their job right is the night shift security guard who happens to see us putting our mask down. With all the money that goes into this place there should be better cleaning rotations, a better turn around for patients. I am convinced they have only one doctor and 15 nurses working. The picture below is only one area. The blankets are from 3 different patients that were called after atleast 7 hours of waiting. Bathrooms are disgusting. Spent $40 on coffee and a sweet x2 and not to mention the excruciating parking rates. Just go to Stroger atleast there they will help you with the ridiculous cost.

Excellent caring and rapid service demonstrating expertise, efficiency, professionalism, and true concern, from all doctors and nurses, for my daughter who was admitted this evening. Even the parking garage security worker escorted me to my vehicle on a snowy night. Best ER experience I’ve endured.

Northwestern phone system is the worst that I have ever experienced. Today @9:20am it’s 10:13am and I am still on hold. The first call after holding 15 minutes they hung up. I called back and was prompted to press 1 for a return call. 30 minutes later they called and said I was next in line. After 10 minutes I was back on hold hearing that same message as if I had not been included in the call back system. I am still on hold and it’s 10:17 almost an hour. I just want to change the time on an appointment. I tried my chart and the time on an appointment cannot be changed on my chart. I am still holding. No answer yet. Now I want to know just how long it will take. This is not the first time it has taken an hour to get a person to answer. Please go back to your old system. It’s 10:22 someone just answered.

Please be aware!! The linens that are being received from your health linen service are cross contaminating with dirty linens placed in the clean linen room, violating OSHA regulations. They place open, dirty linens right next to clean linen carts in the clean linen room. Northwestern hospital is great otherwise and deserves a better service.

Great specialist doctors saving lives here. Their brain tumor institute saved the life of a dear friend of mine, their doctors saw something that doctors elsewhere missed. And they were able to schedule an emergency surgery for her. It was not trauma informed, but I do understand that is a lot to expect when the doctors are working on immediate issues. So thankful for this place.

Having to go to the ER sucked but the staff here made it suck a lot less. Every person I encountered here was caring and professional and very competent at their job. I was checked on frequently and given quick treatment that got me back on my feet. The nurses and doctors were very efficient but never made me feel rushed and the casual friendly conversations they managed to have while still performing their jobs did a great deal to calm me down. I am very impressed at an ER that manages to excel at both patient care and patient relations.

This has been the worst experience of my life, since walking in ER. Spent 11 hrs in a chair even though my transplant team said ,"get to the ER aASAP,, your pancreas numbers are dangerously high ,I am rejecting . Sat in a chair while homeless and druggie went before me threatening people's life's and ours. Slept in a hall till.i got a waiting room, then finally got a room 2 days later, had a biopsy, they gave me a infusion and I had a life threatening reaction. Thank God my husband and son where there, I felt like I was literally dieing., two nights latter they finally get me in for a mri ,3and 1/2 hrs mri, I asked for iv Ativan or relaxer , no they messed that up so I freaked out through half. They said we can finish tomorrow, now almost 3 days later still waiting for the mri and I am not on schedule. I used to love this place so many years ago, terrible ,I wouldn't send my enemy here. They are tje ones who lowered my meds so low to nothing and that's why I am rejecting my pancreas now. go someone else. rats everywhere, ho.eless staying in lobbies, sadly there were druggie passing out in lobby ,no one did anything. People threating my family ,on lobby, telling them to go home. This place os scarey, worthless and not a hospital for the actual sick anymore. I am so disappointed. Then got discharged spent 4 hts in Walgreens because the dr wrote all the wrong prescriptions so I had to wait for him to decide to come down and straighten out his mess. Terrible terrible terrible. Don't go there unlessayne u have a headache and wanna spend 18 hrs in a er waiting for a room . Not to mention , asked to speak to a Pastor, they of course must of been too busy because they never bothered to show. ,that's ok I didn't need them anyway ,worthless.

Very poor and indifferent medical care at north western hospital. I went to this hospital on May 20 th , 2023 For severe and intense lower back pain. The medical staff acted with deliberate indifference to Regina Montgomery’s intense back pain and suffering. Regina is a retired 70 year old retired LPN. Nurse. Medical care at this hospital is barbaric and third world country style . Should you come to this hospital you will be mistreated..!

I will go to northwestern for all my surgical procedures if I am capable of doing so. The staff was so kind and took really great care of me. I've gotten my top surgery done with Dr. Sumanas and gastric bypass with Dr. Hungness. Amazing team. Shout out to the PA Erin, RN Maria, and ICU RNs Kyle and Ashley and PCT Dale.

I had an okay experience receiving care at northwestern. The doctors that took care of me were very good and caring. When I was on the floor I had a couple of really good nurses but one or two people that were supposed to be keeping me safe made me feel really unsafe and I became more agitated. This left me feeling like I was less then human. When I tried to explain why I needed a certain item for my disability it was taken leaving very scared. Overall though the nurse in my direct care were awsome and really helped.

Girlfriend got hit with kidney stones while we were visiting Chicago. In a frantic Google search for the closest emergency room I noticed so many 1 star reviews for this hospital specifically and was debating driving a little forther to another hospital, but realized that was dumb given the amount of pain she was in (was vomiting from the pain). We get there and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful.. The nurse (shout out Rachel) the doctors and all the staff were absolutely attentive and super friendly. Also shout out to the CT guy Anthony! Another very friendly person we interacted with that gave us a ton of laughs during a terrible experience.

Absolutely The Best hospital I've ever been to. The staff is incredible: courteous, caring, efficient, makes sure you understand. Top of the line equipment. The doctors', nirses', and techs' concern is authentic and reassuring. The in-house good prepared there is good too!

It is clear it is a top quality of medical care emergency. The waiting time is very long more than 7 hours for my case ( I may got COVID-19 and cannot bear with the very cold waiting room). Besides for someone who has problems hearing the call I would appreciate if the nurse traverses all the huge waiting room to call. Or much better one has to se a screen to display the names to call. I am still waiting because I believe there are good doctors here.

ER wait is atleast 10 hours. I was denied food that accommodated my food allergies so I was left with applesauce for multiple meals. I was placed in observation floor while inpatient. The charge nurse n nurses weren’t afraid to cuss and were very mad about their ratio compared to other departments. The nurse forgot my dinner meal so I starved again on applesauce. I was in agonizing pain for many hours till the nightly hospitalist said to do a CT scan that showed gallstones. I can’t go into everything but my patient rights were not respected. I called the patient advocate line at 9:30am for unsafe discharge n they failed to contact me till 3pm. I was forced out of my room n denied the opportunity for family to get me as I lived 4 hours away. They again said gallstones weren’t a concern. After traveling to St. Louis ER after my discharge, I arrived jaundice n it was determined my gallbladder needed removed. Northwestern hospital is by far the worst I’ve stayed. Their outpatient n office professional services are great but they fail miserably when caring for ppl inpatient. I’ve worked in a hospital and hv my CNA and I had been skilled in mediation but this is by far no where near what a top ranked hospital is. I was wrongfully dismissed and diagnosed.

This is the finest example of medical facilities. They have staff well identified to guide or assist you any where, any way you need. Everyone comes with a hello and a smile. Deeper inside the facilities your experience becomes one on one. Every staff member works at your pace and are focused on you and your medical needs. To all the staff members you are a very impressive group of people.

In so far as the hospitals I've had to be helped by in 49yrs of life...I thought they were the best...so much so, I won't go anywhere else when I have a choice in the matter but to Northwestern Memorial. There after care and clinical services are also excellent also. So if you have a choice in the matter this is the place to go.

Very disappointed with the hospital performance, in downtown and west suburbs. The doctors are just making sure they get the money from the insurance, and they don't give a dam about the patients, no effort whatsoever to find what is wrong with you. I heard very good things about NW before I got sick, maybe it was true but now their performance is execrable.

Waited with my grandmother from 6pm till 3am. Was disappointed with the time spent waiting in the ER there. From the publicity this place gets, I expected them to much more efficient and responsive. The staff was apologetic but that does not change the torturous wait. What would happen in a catastrophic event? Staff enough for the volume you get.

I did have to wait longer than I'd have hoped to be admitted to a room (approx. 4.5 hours, entered the ER at 1:30am), but I was seen nearly immediately upon arrival, tested, and given an IV to help hydrate me while I waited. Upon being admitted to a room I received great care almost without exception. One nurse on the afternoon shift didn't hook me back up to my IV when I got back from the bathroom because she said I "didn't need it anymore", but another swiftly corrected that. Thanks NWMH! I came in very scared and left reassured about my path to recovery.
