If you decide to go to the E.R. at RUSH... Be prepared to stay in the waiting area for a good ten hours!!! Yes! Ten hours!!! Speaking with patients that have been in the waiting room for 14-15 hours to get called into a room.. We need legislation passed to protect patients. Hospitals should face fines or some type of disciplinary action when they keep patients waiting for so long.. Just like airlines! Waiting rooms are extremely congested. They need a better system to deal with the amount of patients they deal with. If you go in with a sprain, hurt or heart issues... you have a HIGH probability of going home with some type of virus! Waiting rooms are NOT being sanitized. Doors etc not being sanitized. Bathrooms not sanitized enough! RUSH instead of wasting so much money in commercials talking about being state of the art... Act like you are state of the art!!! You are labeled as state of the art NOT a third world country!!! UPDATE Response to RUSH's response. Complete LIES!!! A patient waiting made a comment/question to a nurse. He asked if being a good liar was part of her job. He told her he had been there since 9 a.m. Wednesday. It was 1 a.m. Thursday when he was asking/commenting. She actually laughed and commented that at times believe it or it was part of her job to lie. RUSH needs to open up a bigger E.R. The government gave a lot of aid to hospitals. They need to be held ACCOUNTABLE for taxpayers money!!!

I traveled to Chicago solo recently .. I had a cardiac episode that resulted in my needing ER services. The EMTs were full of empathy and professionalism. The ER nurses, doctors, and staff were some of the best medical professionals I've encountered. Thank you for comforting an old guy who needed compassion and urgency! RUSH is one of the best. The community is lucky to have them.

As a employee of Rush hospital environmental services department I worked here and dedicated myself to fulfilling my job duties to my greatest ability and because of that I was over work and assigned to work all over the Professional building sometimes a different area/floor each day even assigned to two jobs in one shift but because of my willingness to get the job done and the skills that I have to perform any assignment given by management in this department. I never complain because I personally remember not having a job and I really appreciated being employed and helping those in the hospital that needed a clean hospital bed and room and bathroom while trying to get better and the doctors that want their office cleaned and the floors mopped and trash can emptied for when they come into their office in morning. I was terminated due to accusations of having Covid-19 and I was escorted out of the the hospital during my shift by security and management without anything in writing regarding why I’m being escorted out of the building during my shift and my I.d badge removed and taken from me without no union member being present on my behalf or even to witness the situation. I was never given the chance to return to work. I passed the mandatory temperature checks when entering the building and I did not report being sick or having symptoms. I would’ve called in sick or took time away from work. I had fmla and could have taken time off if needed. I was wrongfully escorted out the building and never given the opportunity to return back to work. As of today I am without a job that I been at working for 4 years with no complaints ever about my performance. My history of working on all 11 floors inside the professional building reflects my hard work ethic. No other employee in my department during my 4 years with Rush was utilized like me because they were not capable of getting the work done. My job was wrongfully taken away from me after being a awesome employee to a company that doesn’t value their workers if you aren’t a doctor bringing in millions of dollars from surgeries. I worked in what’s considered the lowest and most looked down upon position in the hospital and that is why this entire situation could even happen.

This hospital has gone downhill the past few years. That they also refuse to respect different faiths is sad. They almost never have a Catholic priest on staff if you need a chaplain even though Catholics are likely the majority of the population in the USA. I do not want to go into deep details about my experience at this hospital and that of my family, but the hospital is not what it was 3 years ago. Nurses are a hit or miss. I’ve had some of the best nurses and some of the absolute worst. Their ER takes forever unless you are very very ill. These people care about money first and foremost. They will also do everything to protect themselves from lawsuits. The patient is their last concern. UPDATE- I attended a beautiful memorial service at Rush and was happy to see some of the chaplains there who worked with our family. My negative review is not for the chaplains. They are great people who were very helpful when they got to us and they did a beautiful service for the families who lost somebody. Rather, my review for the insensitive doctors (namely one in neurology) who give bad advice and nurses who seem to never be able to get in contact with anybody and rush patients and families. I do hope things will improve at Rush asap because there are good facilities there and still some people who care. The chaplains were always helpful even when I was hospitalized there.

TL;DR IF YOU'RE HAVING A TRUE MEDICAL EMERGENCY, FIND ANOTHER ER!! $300 and a waste of hours of our time to not get seen. Went to the ER with my partner last week as she was having bad stomach cramps and pain lasting for days. We went there after a referral from a local Urgent Care clinic, so she got vitals taken after maybe a half hour and nothing after that. We were charged $300 (despite her having health insurance), and told to wait in the waiting room with dozens of other patients. When we had first arrived, I overheard an elderly woman in a wheelchair being told the current wait time was 17 hours; that should've been my red flag right away. We were never given an actual time estimate, but we got vitals taken relatively quickly and assumed it wouldn't be too long of a wait. Alas, after that we waited for over 7 hours with no updates. None of the staff coming through had any idea how long the wait time would be, no other patients were even called in at that time. I should note this was a fairly small area to pack so many people, not to mention we were right near an entrance where COVID-positive patients seemed to be coming in and out. Talk about a health hazard, especially considering most of the people waiting to be seen were sick or elderly. And it's not like we could've went to the car to wait our turn; your name is called out a few times as they randomly take attendance, and if you're not there for roll call you're struck from the list. So, we waited for 7-8 hours and around 2am we finally decided we were too uncomfortable and tired to keep waiting. My partner went home and booked a telehealth appointment with her PCP the next day (technically that same day). IT WAS LITERALLY EASIER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A DOCTOR THAN TO GO TO AN "EMERGENCY" ROOM. When we contacted Customer Service later that week to ask for a refund as we were never seen, it was then revealed to us that the $300 charge was for a nurse taking vitals specifically. Incredulously, we asked for confirmation; $300 for vitals when that'd be completely covered during a visit with a PCP? And here's the kicker, they left us on read. We'll continue pursuing a refund for our hardships, but truly this is nothing short of a scam. Let me make this very clear: Rush doesn't care about your health. Rush just wants your money. I'm sure the doctors and staff care about people, but there was no system in place to ensure patients were seen in a timely fashion or even communicated with. If you're having a real medical emergency, I'm begging you to go elsewhere. If you're sitting in that waiting room right now, leave and find another ER.

This hospital has cause a lot of stress. Had an absolutely terrible experience. Took 3 days of calling to get my prescription sent through to the pharmacy. Medicine that I needed before a procedure that had a 3 month waiting list. I drove back and forth to the pharmacy 5 times (I’m not exaggerating) because I was told “it would be handled”. Finally it got escalated to someone who had to stay on the line with me for 2 hours to finally get it sent through from the doctor. Just absolute lack of compassion from this place. Not sure why I was treated so poorly given the reputation. There are other issues I may want to escalate, but I’d rather not make a nurse lose her job. I’m on the fence. Please just know the staff may be incompetent in delivering your needs if you go here. Really hurt my heart to be treated like this, not sure why. .

During my stay with a family member in the ICU, I had positive interactions with the doctors and nurses who were truly commendable. However, I encountered some challenges with certain staff members, particularly the person responsible for admitting visitors to the ICU at night. Unfortunately, their demeanor seemed less welcoming, and I observed a lack of friendliness. It’s my hope that, in the spirit of promoting a more inclusive and respectful environment, staff interactions could be improved for the benefit of all visitors, regardless of background.

Used to be such a prestigious hospital. Been coming to Rush for 25+ years with my parents. It has gone so downhill. The doctors, the staff. But they just keep building. Seems to be the focus, rather than patient care. My dad’s PCP at Rush wanted to admit him to the hospital. Instead of doing it himself, he just sent him to the ER when he can barely move. Been sitting in the ER for 4 1/2 hours. Still not admitted. Not even an IV. Nothing. Please don’t tell me to call you because you’re sorry & give the usual lip service. TREAT YOUR PATIENTS BETTER! All of them. It’s shameful!

I hate to do this, but ER is looking like a third world country. I've always been loyal to Rush, but tonight was nuts. Was supposed to be a 10 hour wait. I couldn't handle it and left after a few hours. Homeless people sleeping on the floor. Food on the floor. Smells. Uncomfortable. I guess I'll take my chances at home and hope I don't croak. At least I'll be in heaven instead of still waiting and waiting... Scary thing is where am I going to go for emergency care if there is a next time? 🤔

Really bad. My Mother was transferred from Oak Park ER (Which was great BTW) to see a brain specialist. They were visiting from Ohio and I am in MN. I called in the morning and was finally told she was already discharged. I finally got to a nurse who refused to tell me, her son, anything. HIPAA. Fine, I asked can you ask her, I'm sure she's fine. I'm a physician and generally navigate for the family. The ER nurse is a brick wall, late morning of the 25th BTW. My mom's still in the waiting room and the nurse says I don't have time to go out there, I'm busy. I said she had a brain injury she may not know what was done. The nurse says 'I told her and she repeated it back'. Um, my mom had a brain injury and might not know what was said. No matter to this nurse, who then sent my mom home in a cab. Obviously the provider- Doctor or NP or PA- I don't know because they wouldn't tell me- authorized this plan of discharge. But they should have called me as the son of this elderly women. I am a hospital based doctor and would always contact family in such a situation. The provider was wrong not to call and the nurse could have lifted a finger and gone to the waiting room. I've been practicing medicine for 28 years and have never seen this kind of immoral and unsafe care. There's little use complaining because the nurse will be full of excuses. I would never have expected a major metro medical center to treat anyone this poorly. I'll avoid Rush Medical Center Downtown forever. Suggest you consider the same. I expect there might be a 'we're so sorry about this' from the person who follows google reviews, but believe me- this is a broken system Look elsewhere

This is potentially the worst hospital I have ever dealt with. We took my 79 year old father here in hopes of getting hope for his leukemia treatment. There has been zero communication, the oncology fellows are very uncompassionate and look like they just graduated from middle school. They twiddled their thumbs for one week when we had a diagnosis from Cleveland Clinic. They moved him to the ICU. My father passed away yesterday. Thank you critical care doctors for absolutely nothing. Thank you Dr. Melissa Larson for nothing, Thank you Dr. Sam Goodman for nothing too. This hospital doesn't live up to the hype. Unless you want to die, don't go here.

DO NOT CHOOSE RUSH FOR AN URGENT CANCER SCAN. I have a breast cancer history and my RUSH internist recommended an MRI. I have called the RUSH outpatient MRI department at least ten times. No one ever answers. I have been kept on hold over 2 hours and just keep listening to the hold message. The hold recording says leave a message, so I have done that four times and NO ONE has ever called me back. I have been trying to schedule an MRI for 2 months. The only rational thing for me to do is change hospitals. I wish I knew that 2 months ago.

If I could leave zero stars I would, If you get referred to their maternal fetal medicine department be ready to be treated like garbage. The front desk help and nurses are very nice but thats where it stops. It takes 4 hours to go to a simple appointment. At least 30 mins before your schedule time to bring you back but if your late then they will take you right in, and leave the patients that are on time waiting. Also the disrespect I have receiving from the doctor there is crazy I have never had a medical professional treat me the way they have on more then one occasion. Being literally yelled at and told I have something I do not and then trying to scare me into being admitted for no reason at all.I was even told by one of the other doctors that they will do anything for the money since I have a medical card that will cover anything this horrible doctor says you need, even when your blood tests clearly shows that everything is fine. No compassion at all they don't care about you in the least. I would love to add her name to this but unfortunately even though I had countless visits there she never once introduced herself...

I’m an employee here at Rush and I love working here and helping the patients it’s my calling and duties but I’m very disappointed in the wait time and respect in the ER. I waited over 9-10hours I use to work in many ER and I know how it is but your staff needs more training on how to talk and treat patients and definitely I know if it’s not a true emergency I will have to wait but have some compassion for your patients. All in all when I finally get a room all the nurses and doctors and staff was great with my health. Just need to do better with the wait time in the ER.

Rush University Hospital truly understand the importance of assisting family losing a loved one. Their service goes above and beyond!!! They allow families to grieve and while they think of the necessary actions to take next because no family should be made to feel like a burden in the midst of losing someone special to them. They not only brought blankets for individuals, they brought coffee, fruit and pastries for my family and gave us a special touch of having our loved one's heart beat and their finger print in our favorite colors and they validated my family's parking. Rush University Hospital is a hospital for the people and it shows through their outstanding costumer service, bedside manners and professionalism. Thank You, Irma Jackson's Family

Rush saved mine and my baby boys life in February 2020. Amazing experience. Only hospital that would listen to me and give me the surgery I knew I needed. I self referred for a second opinion got an appointment within a week. Within two weeks after that I was inpatient in RUMC waiting for surgery. I was on the mom and baby unit. The nurses and doctors were all kind and caring. After the surgery I wanted to be discharged the next day. The doctor in charge that day kept asking if I was sure I wanted to go, that I could stay longer if I felt it was necessary. I needed to get home because of the ice storm coming. He made sure I had the proper care I needed close to home before discharging. I wish I could've delivered my baby here.

HORRIBLE NURSES ! NEGLECTED WHILE PREGNANT! I had the worst treatment in the ER while being pregnant I was waiting for hours upon hours to get a room while I was vomiting and very dizzy they had me in the waiting room for about 4 hours after I was in the emergency room for 2 days because I bed didn’t open up for me while those days happened the nurses were the worst they were rough and neglectful to when I was in pain I was crying sobbing because they didn’t put an iv in right I had the IV done 13 times!!! 13 times they couldn’t get it in right to the pint where they just gave up and didn’t give me an IV I was left without food for long long periods of time and when I asked for options they told me it wasn’t a restaurant in which I was in shock from that nurses response I never went back after and never will worst hospital ever they’re a joke I will not trust my baby in their hands compared to Uic I’ve had the best treatment ever there very attentive and gentle with me and baby

This location was on the 4th floor, just off the walkway from the parking lot. It’s not fun sitting for 12 hours waiting for someone during their surgery. Having an experience that is convenient and somewhat comfortable is welcomed. I wish the chairs were softer to take a good nap. Parking was very close and plenty of spaces available and the price was a reasonable $8.

I am indebted to Rush. My care team saved my life 6 years and I feel horrid taking a star away from RUSH. Unfortunately, nurse assistant Christina at Chicago Connect (3960 w 26tb street) represents RUSB hospital. She is an undertrained assistant (maybe I am giving her too much credit) works at Rush’s covid testing clinic. She was not able to handle a simple line and chose random Walk-ins to skip the line when everyone in line had an appointment. She did not like that I questioned her and asked me to step back and allowed a family to enter the building. She proceeded to explain that I had to wait my turn and stop inconveniencing everyone in line with my complaints. She wasn’t able to communicate clearly and was extremely rude. Nurse in charge Kristen Nicole F. was very kind and explained the team was understaffed due to a COVID outbreak at the facility, but had no explanation for Christina allowing 3 families without appointments to cut the line (Christina herself confirmed this). When I asked her for name she also refused to inform and was not wearing her badge. This poor behavior is unacceptable and perhaps a more friendly and efficient assistant should be the face of RUSH at door. Rush deserves to be represented by the best team of nurses.

Their financial help department doesn't help. Their website states that they offer a insured but not cover discount of 50%. I called serval times about it. One rep told me I qualify, but she'll get back to me to verify some insurance info. (She never called back). Another rep tells me the bill is in my daughter's name and they don't offer discounts to minors. A third rep tells me a 50% discount doesn't exist. Even though it's clearly written on their website and within their policy. There is something really fishing going on with their "financial help" department. I will be filing a complaint with proper government agency and contacting my state reps.

If I could give 0 or negative stars I would. Waited 5.5 hours in ER area and then was told wouldn’t be seen for another 2.5 hours. Ended up leaving and had relative drive me to another hospital. Ridiculous. Also - They were bringing CRIMINALS in to be seen for care before the people who had been waiting many hours in the waiting area? Get your priorities straight idiotas. Will never go here again and will tell many many people to not use your services if at all possible. Good day.

My mother is a current patient on the 12th floor of the hospital, I wanted to reach out to let you know of the excellent care my mother has received by staff members. Amir your PCT Tech on night shift is wonderful although he was training a new tech, I believe her name is Bree he was very patient and reassuring with my mom. Then your RN Autumn is outstanding, she repeatedly check in on my mom assured her that her concerns and checked on her throughout her shifts. She asked if my mom if she had any questions about the new medication they prescribed her and was patient with me as well. Staff like this should be recognized as most people would not think such young people are able to provide amazing care. Thank you for taking amazing care of my mom.

The pathologist at RUSH misdiagnosed me. My doctor didn't even call me until almost a month later, even though she saw the pathologists diagnosis a few days after my biopsy. The physician said she needed answers herself and couldn't get a hold of the pathologist who made the diagnosis. The diagnosis didn't match my symptoms at all, so I went to Northwestern for a second opinion. The Northwestern pathologist gave me a very different diagnosis, one that aligned with my symptoms (and made sense). This confirmed my suspicion that RUSH was wrong in their diagnosis. I was relieved and finally able to receive treatment as well. After making a complaint to RUSH, the Rush pathologist re-reviewed the biopsy and amended his diagnosis and notes to match Northwesterns. He also apologized for the misdiagnosis. When I tried to get monetary compensation for my pain and emotional distress, Rush refused and started to back-pedal. Even though the doctors all apologized, the risk management team decided that I shouldn't get monetary compensation and has ignored my calls and e-mails. ***My reply to this automated response: I already spoke with patient relations. The person who was assigned my case in risk management is Gina Ferguson but she is ignoring my phone calls and e-mails. Even though in a letter she wrote to me says "Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions." In my opinion, this women is very unprofessional. Moreover, she went into my medical chart without my permission, and she neglected my two main complaints in her letter which were pain from another biopsy and delayed treatment. Additionally, I had to contact patient relations to find out who she was, because in her letter she doesn't even address her position at RUSH; she just signed her name like I'm supposed to know who she is... Patient relations has not been helpful in getting her to talk to me directly and even said that Gina will not be responding to my questions. I would never recommend anyone to come here. You risk being misdiagnosed and delayed treatment. They charge you for their time whether they are right or wrong...its a business. They keep expanding their buildings but don't seem to keep up with the quality of care.

This place is so positive and full of so many kind and caring workers. The doctors and surgeons are some of the top in the nation. My most recent experience with the surgical staff and how they treated a family member what is the most impressive. Even the front desk help is just fantastic. They have taken great care of a loved one. I am really impressed. Especially since I have had a really bad interaction with a manager in a physical therapy clinic, it is refreshing taffy hundred percent excellent experience.

I literally cannot say enough good things about Rush. My husband just spent 17 days here with a life threatening, sudden condition. The level of communication and collaborate between various departments and teams of doctors and specialists was remarkable. I have never seen more compassionate, thorough and friendly hospital staff anywhere. Even the food was decent! We have mostly gotten our healthcare from Northwestern Medicine and they do a great job with their marketing. You don't hear as much about Rush, however. Maybe it's because they focus all of their attention on the patient. The one thing I would say is that it would be great if surgeons could provide patient testimonials.

The reason for my 1 star review is because of the hospitals current policies concerning visitors and patients who are 14 to 17...One pediatric doctor informed my 14 year old daughter that she did not need her parent (mom) to make her appointments. She went on to inform MY CHILD that if she wanted birth control all she had to do was ask for it and they would give it to her without the parent consent.... HMMM... My kid laughed hysterically at the doctor... when I came back into the room she told me exactly what the private discussion was about... I laughed... My daughter informed the doctor that WE had already discussed this stuff and no she was ok. But lets come current... I came to the hospital for a procedure... my daughter met me there after school so we could go home together. The security people told her that because she was 16 yo she could not enter the hospital to come and meet me. What!!! She can make her own medical decisions... according to RUSH... get Birth Control if needed... Make her own Drs. appointments... BUT because she is 16 she cannot come up to her mom's procedure room and be with her... HMMMM... Sounds STUPID!!!! Please to not come back with stuff of COVID because that is a crock of BOLOGNA!!!! If she was a 16 yo MOM would she then be denied admittance to her child because of her age... COME ON...Do Better!!!!

Don’t waste your time. I came in as a high priority patient though the ER. I watched people who weren’t sick eating and acting like it’s social hour, only to be put in a room with the WORST nurse ever, Angela. Angela is one huge reason why people don’t feel bad for nurses. Rush is finding bottom feeders. Pass the puck. No real care anymore. Rush please do better, Angela shouldn’t have a job.NO soap is ER bathroom, not one employee cared. If you try and complain, guest relations will act like they are the victim. Sorry nurses, you will earn reappear when you give it. Watch out for Angela.

Horrible service at the Rush Movement Disorders Clinic- office over some time. I have been seeing Dr Amitra Afshari at Rush Movement Disorder Clinic for approximately 1.5 years. The DR herself is fine with treatment, but cancels 90% of the appointments I have made at this office. The most recent appointment that was canceled, was simply canceled, and rescheduled with no phone call to the patient, and an automated email sent to my email. The office prior approval nurse is horrible. No bedside banner over the phone, does not reply to emails to the office for weeks on end, does not go out of her way for anything beyond her basic job. I will be changing providers and will never go to this office again.

Rush Hospital really shocked me. My Brother is dying in ICU. They found a Bedbug on him. They refused to give him a new bed and another room. I took a video of his treatments and conversation . And Friday09/27/23. I was put out of the Hospital. Saturday I could not see him, as he fighting for his life. Sunday the Doctor made for me to see him. But I refuse for them to treat me as a criminal. I left in tears. Please God help me. What crime have I committed.

They’re not to serve or help the ones that really need it. They are very rude and dismissive and absolutely just mean most times. Need some courses in empathy, sensitivity and compassion! Where are the customer service skill? Where’s the hospitality with all the new equipment??? Complete turn off and waste of time!!! Please go else where especially if you are of color because they are not designed for us only a few spots for the poor!

This review is for the billing department and this has happened thrice in past three years. Every year my annual wellness checkup is charged under wrong code which shows wrong balance due in my chart. My annual wellness checkup is completely covered by my insurance provider. I had to work with my insurance and billing dept. for about 8 months last year to get it corrected and same thing has happened this year as well. for my visit on Sept10th 2020, they have again send wrong charging code to my insurance. This is frustrating and time consuming! (I'm not sure how many emails and calls I have todo to get it corrected this time :( ) If this continues I would probably change my health care provider!

As a prior patient hospitalized here who received superior nursing care, I’m dismayed at how service has deteriorated. I know Covid’s negatively affected capabilities but nurses didn’t do hygiene practices on the patient — my family member— in multiple days and bed ridden. The nurses weren’t thorough as in communicative or even very present. If there’s a reason why things aren’t up to standard at least let patients know what to expect.

Rush University medical centers at all locations are cream of the crop. We're very blessed in Chicago to have access to so many top tier medical facilities however, there is definitely a Rush standard that is consistent from the maintenance staff to the medical specialist and everyone in between. Due to personal experience of over 25 years of frequently needing medical care for myself or close family I've experienced care through every major teaching hospital and several private medical groups. Rush just holds all of their employees to a higher standard than the rest. Rush is the only one who totally understands and implements whole patient care. The person who cleans up the messes to the doctor who diagnoses you all have an impact on your health. If you run into an arrogant or snotty appointment setter it will negatively affect your health. Rush seems to understand this.

So sad. My mom had a heart defibrillator placed here 8 years ago. Brought her back —so scared I’ve made the worse mistake but this is where her cardiologist works. It’s not clean. They move patients around like they’re not people. Remove blankets without wiping down areas and place them. It’s unbelievable just now while waiting for my mom in her holding area of procedure a random nurse in a rush places another patient male here with his belongings. I’m like excuse me my mom is coming back here. She disregards me and here we are. Bathrooms no toilet cover, no wipes to disinfect the area your self. I can’t believe this is Rush University Medical.

If I could rate it zero starts I would. Why do you go to the ER to obtain assistance. I am in the Er with breathing difficulties and I am still in the waiting room 6 hour Later. Then to top it off the staff are rude and take their sweet time attending to the patients. And have a funky attitude about doing their job and helping the patients. There are people in the waiting room with intestinal blockage and someone who was having heart issues and they are still in waiting in the waiting room with me. I swear when Covid 19 was a pandemic the er room was much faster at seeing patients. And talk of Covid 19 Rush does not make patients nor ensure their patients wear a mask and the other night a couple came out of the back from being seen with the doctor with a brown bag which included some supplies. And they literally announced coming back into the waiting room after seeing the doctor that they tested positive for Covid. I used to love Rush hospital now I am rethinking this Rush hospital I am going to start going to Norhwestern hospital which is so close to my home Also I tried to make a complaint and wouldn’t you know it the Patient assistance line had limited hours and asked that you send them an email I can’t peoples lives are in jeopardy!!

RUSH is amazing! Every staff member has been kind and helpful as they solved the mystery of my Dad's health decline. Long wait in the ER but we expected that coming in late on a Friday. ER staff was wonderful. Got Dad a room in ICU and have been well taken care. He is on the mend and my family is forever grateful!

This hospital is THE WORST HOSPITAL I’ve ever experienced. The staff talk to you like you’re nothing, the doctors as well and nobody acts like they care about the patient. The Regenstein Eye Center is probably the worst. The front desk staff have no manned, they don’t speak when you come in and they all have an attitude. We see multiple doctors at Rush in different departments and EVERYONE IS RUDE, but yet they charge you for everything and are constantly building which means they care NOTHING about the patients and ALL ABOUT THE MONEY and it shows. I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to ANYONE. Run as far as you can in the opposite direction if you are ever referred to have care from this hospital. Trust me, it’s for your best.

I visited Rush ER at the direction of an urgent care physician who suspected a potentially fatal condition on 11/28/20. Unfortunately I did not receive adequate care. I was in room 41 in the ER until 9:30pm. The wall card noted Dr. Devris, RNs Bre & Shannon and PCT Cynthia were my providers though I can’t confirm it’s accuracy. From 6pm to 9:30pm I kept asking for water. I pushed the button over three tines, speaking with more than three nurses and other staff. They all stated they’d check on it for me. I also spoke with two doctors the latter being Supervising Dr. Tucker Matthews. My throat was so dry it was increasingly difficult to speak. He seemed thorough and kind assuring me he’d already approved water and if it did not arrive while he and I were speaking he would personally get the water for me. The water did not arrive, but as he was exiting he stated he would get the water. I do not doubt his intentions to get water. Anything could have happened and he may have gone to save a life. However he said he’d approved it. After 20 minutes I considered drinking from the corner faucet, but there was no cup. I was extremely dizzy and my lips were hard. I understand doctors are very busy so I once again pushed the button for assistance. What I did not expect was for no one to acknowledge me or come and speak with me. I also did not expect to overhear them discussing why I was requesting assistance. I heard them say “she wants water.” No one bothered to explain why after hours of asking, after the doctor approved I’d not been granted water. After speaking with so many people, having so much blood drawn, and asking over and over why was I not even worthy of being acknowledged or hearing an explanation upon calling for assistance? I literally began to cry. I got up and dressed myself with difficulty. 30 minutes passed and my confidence in the Rush caregivers dwindled. If I’m going to die of thirst I can do that at home where your team isn’t humiliating me outside of my room. To Rush medical staff, I’m not worth the breath of an explanation or assurance the water is coming. They can discuss me loudly outside of my room but can’t discuss the matter with me. I exited my room to see an unfamiliar face walking by. She stated she was just getting ready to deliver my meds. I noted the very small cup of water she held and turned to leave. She then followed me asking to remove the IV port right there in the hallway. I removed my jacket to grant her request. I quietly said, I’ve been asking for water for over 4 hours, but I won’t blame you it’s not your fault. She offered no explanation. We parted ways and I left. I called the ER from my phone to discuss it further but no one answered. Perhaps they reasoned to deliver water once all orders for meds were in. Perhaps they wanted to save a trip! Rush medical I ask you, If I were your grandmother, or your parched and dizzy relative would you still treat me this way? Moreover is this the way you’d want to be treated? I sincerely feel dejected and humiliated. Is this the same Rush Team that encouraged me to sign up for the Rush All of Us program? I happily signed up for it and advocated for your care. My heart is hurt and I want an explanation. Is there a Water God I should have prayed to? Certainly this isn’t the case. To add insult to injury how dare the staff report I absconded? Who was the lady who followed me in the hallway as I was exited, removing the IV port from my arm? Did she offer an apology after I told her my plight? Did she ask that I stay? No she didn’t. I wasn’t worth an explanation, or assurance when I requested help so of-course I wasn’t getting an apology or sincere interest of caring for me upon my leaving. What are patients worth to your Rush staff? Those who are not well deserve respect. If anything happens to me while I’m seeking adequate care in the interim please reflect on how available it was.

The Best Hospital in Chicago.... I've been with my daughter for her knees and shoulder problems. We're very happy with the outcome. Her physician is Dr Verna, a very excellent & compassion doctor. The staffs at Rush Hosp are warm hearted & polite. I've spread the word on how great Rush Hospital is towards the out-patient people. Thank you.

I have been seen at other hospitals, but Rush out rates them all. The physicians are caring, professional and take the time to listen to your concerns. I have been seen by various physicians and the staff whether, nursing, PA or office handle things in a professional manner. Although I live in a far south suburb I go out of my way to make sure my doctors are at this hospital. Even the emergency room gives one the feeling of a caring spirited team of professionals who care. Thank you Rush for hiring physicians that are concerned about their patients.

I was rushed into the ER today. 3 minutes not even they had me in already. I don't remember the nurses name but they were all very professional. The CT scan specialist was very kind as well as the x-ray specialist he was very cool and friendly. The doctor was my big concern but Doc. Daven Patel was very nice professional and very friendly.

Went in to the ED with severe chest pains which I thought would be taken seriously and I would be seen fairly quickly but I wasn’t. Hours of waiting to be seen and then even hours between that. When it was thought I might have a blood clot they still took their sweet time. Thank god it wasn’t a blood clot or I might have died by the time they decided to treat me. Of course the bill was absurd too because it’s Rush.

I had the unfortunate need to visit the ER yesterday. The attention and care I received at Rush from the attendants working the desk to the doctors and techs that came to my aid, I was so impressed. Perhaps it was due to my reported symptoms that put everyone in motion so swiftly for me. Just want to say that I so appreciate everyone’s attention to what I was experiencing and am grateful for you all. Thank you!!

Seven day stay at the hospital after a major surgery and I was taken care of with kind, compassionate and professional nurses the entire time. I’ve been in 5 different hospitals over two decades and RUMC is by far my best experience. I’m in recovery and still visit my surgery team at Rush and they always make me feel heard and valued as a patient. I’m very grateful to have my health care needs provided by the doctors, nurses and staff at Rush.

The worst communication. Terrible gaslighting. The INEXCUSABLE FILTH in this facility. It was everywhere. The waiting room, the bathrooms, the hall was littered with garbage type red biohazard bags. Even INSIDE my Operating Room...garbage on the floor. When I objected to what I was seeing, they promptly canceled my surgery. I couldn't get out of that place fast enough...but not before one last gross show of filth, the floor of the elevator was littered with 2x2 gauze pads...soaked in something orange. I quickly pointed it out to my husband so he can see for himself what I was trying to describe. He quickly understood as an employee's foot was standing over some ofthem. My biggest fears were handled BEAUTIFULLY by this pre-surg staff, they are willing, if able, to accommodate women patients with women doctors/ residents...they allow small gestures of modesty and that is commendable. And just so you know...all those personal questions they ask you? And all the personal questions you ask them? EVERYONE CAN HEAR YOU...as there only curtains for privacy. HIPAA laws must be out back on a smoke break with the 3 janitors this place employs. 2 thumbs down and shame on you.

After 2 trips from Florida to Rush with supporting documents showing omentum distress, and a mass of right soft tissue mass, gynecologists disregarded at Rush dismissed reports, blood Ca125 work, but did perform a CAT scan both in July and September again (2023) unable to perform a biopsy, because I was not an emergency, funny I sat in ER for 13 hours (told them I did not park my Bentley / flew SW, ubered straight to Rush, with Edema only legs, put in room right by the El train, everyday asking about a Biopsy, but they continued to bill Medicare, BCBS, and tell me they couldn’t schedule a biopsy , only to sign myself out, return back to Florida since being deadly sick, since May 2023, I did get back to Florida to a real gynecological oncologist who did schedule an ER biopsy on November 13, when the phone rang at 7:00pm whee he doctor delivered the worst info you can get on the phone, biopsy revealed “ high serous carcinoma” or ovarian cancer with has spread to other organs”. And if you know ovarian cancer, you may know the results/cure rate/ and final outcome. Seven doctors, four hospitals and 7 months of waisted time. Rush is in the “business” not in patient care ! Not sure who running the asylum, not sure if they have too many Chiefs, and not enough medical professionals, who can make a determination of biopsy needs to be done, or just keep her in a room doped up, and keeping billing out for no service. No wonder my life saving Cardiologist left, and we have been together since 2008, saving my life at least five times. Now thinking I should have uberd myself to Nortwestern. Rush, you don’t cut the grade anymore, and I find your care neglectful, Liable, and cruel to seniors! Can’t give me time back, can’t even spare me a Diagnosis, since a biopsy can’t be performed at the Main Campus location. What do you do anymore, I won’t let you clip my dogs nails. If my life is left to less than a year, you will to answer to a higher power and I’m not talking about your morals, ethical, or hippocratic oath.

This is the best hospital in the city! I have been seeing Rush doctors since I was four-I’m many moons older than four now-and all of my children have also been patients of Rush since birth. I don’t believe you can find a better hospital with such caring doctors, nurses and support staff. I don’t have to figure out where to see a specialist with my referral because they’re all at Rush too! It’s a one stop shop!

After being admitted to Rush University Medical Center (Rush) for COVID related complications, I will be using Rush’s multidisciplinary treatment team for all my future medical needs. I firmly believe that if I had not been admitted to Rush, I would not be alive today. I do not believe I would have received the same level of care at any other hospital. My mother initially recommended Rush after my medical condition worsened, due to having a history of all her medical needs being exceptionally met within one healthcare system. I would like to thank some extraordinary individuals I encountered that really shaped my patient experience. These employees exemplified service excellence. They went above and beyond to not only keep me alive, but in every patient interaction. I would like to thank NPs Nichole M Jones, Pauline, and Erik; RN Vaija, PCT/NA Ronnie, and Valencia in housekeeping. These individuals all stood out, due to giving exceptional medical care and services. I never once felt unheard or like a number on their caseload. They were all so kind and are the reason I am now choosing Rush as my sole medical treatment provider. Even though, due to COVID precaution my family and loved ones were not allowed in the hospital, the above individuals made a very difficult time that much easier. I just wanted to take the time out to leave a review, because their kindness and exemplary service did not go unnoticed. I recommend Rush for all your medical treatment needs.

First i will start off with the good. Patience the nurses have and a listening ear as long as you keep low tone and little profanity if you are like I. As for as the doctors and how they make decision on prognosis, please understand this is a teaching hospital so the students are here to learn as the Dr.'s/facilities is here to teach and more focus on that then providing quality service. Its not about providing a service that benefit the patient it is more on teaching and making money then what is best OVERALL for the patient quality of health and the service the hospital provide. Just my experience. Quality of the patient over all health is not the focus

I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia which has been dubbed "SUICIDE PAIN" to the right side of my face over a year ago. I had to get MVD which included form of brain surgery to complete the procedure. My doctor was awesome 👌 and the nurses were very attentive and nice. The overall condition of the hospital was very clean and up-to-date. Students were learning but displayed great bedside manner and professionalism. It is a painful recovery and will be long but it's definitely worth it.

Home now from a procedure this morning at Rush. I cannot praise the entire medical center enough. Everyone from security to medical staff, admitting, everyone I come in contact with there is polite and friendly and helpful. I used to be a patient at another Chicago major medical center but over the last 15 years moved all my specialty care and testing to Rush for myself and my husband. The difference is night and day. Thank you Rush Medical Center. I appreciate you very much.

Spent a couple of weeks here in the MICU, and in that time, the teams of doctors and nurses treating me have been nothing short of amazing. I was well informed of any decisions that I needed to make regarding different procedures. The nurses were honestly so helpful and kind and constantly taking care of all my basic needs. My wife and I just had a baby a couple weeks ago, and they allowed me to visit my daughter downstairs while I was being monitored. I am relieved to be on the road to wholeness with RUSH. My only critique would be that some of the procedures I knew were going to happen days in advance weren’t quite scheduled until the last minute, making it difficult to plan visits with family before said procedures. I do understand that scheduling is difficult especially in a place like this, so maybe it’s unrealistic to expect that kind of foresight. Either way, RUSH is amazing at what they do.

You will roll the dice with anesthesiologists at this facility. I was "assigned" Dr. Traylor. A freakishly large, imposing and intimidating man with zero resemblance of care or compassion. I'm sure he chose this field because no one would EVER seek his services. His patients haven't a choice. He suggested a female doctor. Best suggestion he's ever made. In walks Dr. Sarah Cocoma complete with a raging eye infection. This woman SNUCK behind my bed, DISTRACTED me and FORCEFULLY shot VERSED in my IV. It burns given gently. To render me unconscious, without asking, warning or care. Filthy conditions in every area including the elevators. Stay away from the trauma this place leaves behind. You've been dutifully warned.

Amazing Experience in The ER this morning. I am TERRIFIED of doctors and Hospitals.. I was referred to Rush from my Urgent care due to upper back pain under my right shoulder blade. I was told at the urgent care I had to go to the ER because they were concerned it was my gallbladder. From the Moment I walked into the ER, They were so Sensitive and Empathetic to my Fear. I could go on forever but I will leave it at this, My Gallbladder is fine, And I had The Most Compassionate Care I have EVER received in my 39 years alive… Thank you RN Tony… You were with me every step of the way. I appreciate you, So much!! I absolutely want to thank Dr. Muhammad… You are On point! Amazing ER doctor! Thank you for making sure that EVERYTHING was lined up for my continued care including a referral to a PCP. Dr. Muhammad, the way how I watched you interact with Every single person in the ER today, It was so refreshing. You Listen, You ask questions. Your sense of Urgency while treating Us was… You’re Amazing. I also would to thank my Ultrasound Technician.. I freaked out on her because Again.. Terrified… She was so sweet. Thank you so much for treating me like Family. P.S. Please Give Tony a Raise. Thank you.

I should give the staff at Rush 10 stars as they are very caring and amazing especially ICU doctors, nurses and staff and also floor 12 West Stroke floor. The only thing that upset me is that my husband's phone went missing from his room and it seems that no one can do anything about it. I called the patient relation line and it always seems that they have a problem to answer the phone. I am honestly so upset because i have so many expenses and i really need to replace the phone so we can communicate after visiting hours. Patients belonging should not go missing for any reason and if they accidentally damaged the phone, it have the right to know.

I'll start out by saying that the medical staff are extremely professional and caring. They were beyond respectful and kind while my husband was there even though we lost him in the end. The only bad part were the employees who were taking breaks, talking and eating in what is supposed to be the family lounge in ICU. My family and I were very upset and crying and it made things extremely awkward and uncomfortable.

This review is specifically about Dr. Mary Rhee and how she treats people. I have no comment on her professional abilities but having seen her interact with individuals it is evident she looks down on people and believes she is better than you. It is unfortunate as I am sure there are plenty of quality and caring staff at Rush but I have seen other posts regarding some of the doctors and staff and their poor attitude towards patients and visitors. It seems Dr. Rhee is apart of that segment at Rush and I hope she changes her ways but I felt obligated to post something.

I always have a great experience when I go in for my appointments. They take me in on my scheduled times. My doctors provide the best care!

I recently had back surgery at Rush. I would like to thank Dr. Fessler and his entire staff for everything they’ve done for me. Also everyone on the 13th floor provided fantastic follow up care.

I am a Rush baby born in the 1960s when the place was Rush Pres..St Luke's before the new buildings before they started calling it downtown Rush... anyway I have always had my care here and the Oak Park medical offices. I have always had high expectations for Rush but and I know it's probably COVID but the level of care isn't the same. I'm sitting in an ER room right now with my wife she's the patient. Been here since around noon. The ER waits are horrible. Maybe my hospital is a victim of its own success. Here is another example I tried to make an appointment to see my GI Dr the next available appointment April of 2022!! No GI doctor available but I can see a Physician Assistant in October... my last bit Dr. Kris Carpenter was a very very excellent DR he saved my wife life several times. Was very easy to talk to loved him.... why did Rush overload him and basically pushed him out the door by over working him. Rush is the hospital I demand has to do better.

I was born here! The doctors are so nice! I am 14 years old, about to be 15 in November! I can't find a hospital that's better than this place. All the Rush buildings are so excellent!

Last week, my spouse was hospitalized with a cardiac anomaly after contracting a COVID breakthrough infection. She ended up in COVID overflow MICU (10E) for three nights. It was very hard not to be with her, but my fears were allayed by the daily feedback she gave me about the superb care she received. I wish I had all the names of her caregivers. I remember a few— Dr. Marilyn Hallock and Linda H, RN in the ED; Dr. Henry Huang (EP cardio); 10E nurses Alexandra, Kathleen, Jennifer, and Janice. We are deeply grateful for these individuals and many more we cannot name.

Took wife to the ER at the recommendation of her pcp, + COVID and worsening symptoms on day 8. History of well controlled asthma. 10hr later sent home with a script for cough syrup, didn't offer monoclonal antibody treatment. Four hours later symptoms worsening, they want us to come back for another 10 hour stay, another $200 copay and likely no better treatment. Steer clear of their ER, don't get fooled by the commercials.

I’m amazed that you’re receiving any positive reviews AT ALL. I’ve been receiving the most disappointing and frankly, insulting, care over the last few months by your clinic for maternity/pregnancy healthcare. Not a single doctor has given me any time in the appointment to ask questions, and all generally act like they couldn’t rush you out of the room fast enough. I have been berated over an appointment time by your provider Katrina Birch, whom I had to wait an additional 30 minutes for in my room while the student helping her claimed she was “using the restroom”. I have had appointments cancelled by your offices where PHONE appointments were offered instead…for an appointment where I should be getting measured and hearing baby’s heartbeat. After declining that politely, was then argued with by the receptionist. I was offered another appointment in 4 weeks, when I am supposed to be seen every 2 weeks. You do not have enough appointments available to be scheduling patients as they need to be seen, I have been told this by 3 different employees. This facility has made my pregnancy a nightmare. I am due in less than two months and will be looking for care elsewhere, even if I have to pay for it out of my own pocket. DO NOT REFER ME TO REACH OUT TO PATIENT SERVICES. As you can read in other reviews, they don’t care either!

I had a procedure on 4/3 with dr chow who had an amazing medical team before the surgery in prep. Nurse Stewart was amazing he was the overnight shift from 7pm to 7am on the cancer floor on stayed on. He was personable, amazing bedside manner, friendly, knowledgeable, caring and very attentive! One do the best nurses I have ever received care from! Thank you Rush

Thank you!!

Don't get the attitude of over half the nurses I've encountered there as a patient. Arguing with each other about pay just outside my door , acting bothered when you use the call button. Just a snarky attitude at times like they hated their jobs . Just out of a 12 hr surgery and 2 & 1/2 days unconscious in IC with 75 staples in me they wanted me to get off the gurney myself and get into the hospital bed. You people need to know this! I did have a charge nurse once and an IC nurse that were wonderful. I was there twice for several days. Back home the nurses are wonderful so I don't get it. Doctors were awesome with the exception of one that I later heard was asked to leave a previous hospital. I totally get why. I left with lingering complications. Fortunately I had two more surgerys back home that fixed complications from Rush's surgery.

Fast check in into emergency room, depending on emergency, nurses are nice, too many newbies/students who make mistakes, and some with attitude with patients who are in distress. As for food service, quality is ok its the orders, especially if your on a restriction that's bad, they say you can't have this or that when last time they did, so I don't know if it's an update problem or what.Example got chicken tenders one day then called and asked again the next day and they say no even though they did still before, or I even got something I supposedly couldn't have without even ordering it... so confusing....Docs are Great Too by the way.

AVOID THIS ABUSIVE HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS! I came in for a nasal surgery. As I awoke from anesthesia I was in a lot of pain. An anesthesiologist, Dr. Traylor, mocked and humiliated me for it. He called me a girl, got other patients involved, and even when I was screaming and crying for him to stop insulting me he continued to mock me from across the room for all to hear. His coworkers were yelling at him to stop but he continued this abuse for 35 minutes straight. They wouldn’t even give me Dr. Traylor’s name to report it and a nurse had to come in and slide me a piece of paper with his name on it. She said this has happened “multiple times with him and please report it”. A month later and no response from the hospital after reporting it and sending 3 emails. I spoke to Christiane Santana Barnabas who gave me no information and just said “sorry you had that experience”. Then today I got a letter from Mara Mackey saying they would give me no information, no apology, and said they would do nothing to make it right. This hospital does not care about its patients and clearly has a history of abuse and no plans to do anything about it.

I came here because my partner was getting surgery...nurse left a message saying he'll be ready in an hour....well it's been two hours, nurse is dodging my calls now and is using the front desk as a buffer to make me wait for hours WITHOUT telling me what's going on in recovery. DO NOT COME HERE if you can help it. If I could give zero stars I would.

Been here for 6 days with a family member and can’t say enough good things. From the surgical staff to the physician teams and the amazing nurses and other care team members on 11 Tower- everyone has been phenomenal! 💙 Thank you to everyone!

👍👍 I’m actually flabbergasted at how incredible of an experience this was for me. This is the absolute first time I had a covid test of any kind. So I was already apprehensive as I was going in. I didn’t know what to expect. Then, to find that it was self administered. I got slightly more anxious. That...

🫤 The rooms are very big and spacious. The hospital is understaffed, every time a patient needs something you always have to wait a long time, or go and chase for a nurse.
