Updates review: My experience at Hines has gotten worse. There seem to be more and more unprofessional and unkind people there than ever before. Patient Advocacy has not been very helpful when trying to navigate difficulties. Some do try and are kinder. Getting out on hold forever. The phone just ringing and ringing. Not getting calls back. The BBB (Better Business Bureau) is also a very good place to register a complaint! The constant struggle for assistance is exhausting. I am really tired. Worn out. Disappointed. The Federal Government pumps billions of dollars into an overpaid system that lacks quality. Employees are "tenured" in after 6 months to 1 year of probation. That is ridiculous!! It becomes very difficult to fire someone after getting through the probationary period. Pathetic. Hire the best people for the job! Previous Review: Hines has tremendous potential but is just not nearly there yet.... There are a few superb doctors but it is very difficult to find them and get in their good graces. It is a huge crapshoot and it is the luck, or lack of luck, of the draw. I am fortunate now, after going through patient advocate hell and other methods of communication, to have some of the better doctors and staff in my corner. It was very very difficult and thus the two star grade. If you do not like your doctor, ask to change it though advocacy. If you have questions and concerns ask as many people as you have to. There are many lack luster people working at Hines. Avoid them or change them if they are part of your health care support team. Be your own best advocate. Call and write congress. Do whatever you can to get the best health care that you can. Good luck to you in your personal quest for well being! :)

I went to the ER and was seen by MD/DO Rachel Goldstein. This was the first and the last time I will ever seek care at a VA ER. I went in for my blood pressure being elevated and my head feeling like it was going to explode. She told me I was fine. Wanted to drug me up with Xanax. I told her no, I’m not fine this is not my normal. I am not feeling good. I told her my systolic blood pressure was at 144 and I am never ever at a systolic of 144. I explained to her that I am a Nurse and understand that this is not normal for me. Nancy then tells me I am fine! That it is the diastolic blood pressure that they look at and that since mine was at 85 I am ok. She also told me that a systolic of 144 is no longer considered hypertension due to a scholarly paper she read. She told me that this has changed recently. I told this MD/DO Nancy AGAIN I am a Nurse and this has not changed according to the American Heart Association and EVERY SINGLE OTHER scholarly paper and Medical School and Nursing school hypertension starts when systolic is over 120! And it is dangerous for a systolic to be over 140 this is why blood pressure lowering medications currently exist. This doctor was literally arguing with me infront of my husband as to why she was right about the blood pressure. Later on I finally got a CT scan of my head that showed interceanial pressure related to hypertension. Go figure!!!! It is scary that this doctor is treating our Veterans today. It is frightening! She wanted to pop a Xanax in me, turn off the lights and send me on my way! In the ER I wondered how many people she had done this to? And how many went home to actually die! I started to cry out of pure fear for my life now! This doctor is why we live in this messed up medical system world! It is disgusting how she treated me! It is even more disgusting that she gets to treat my brothers and sisters this way that know nothing of the medical field nor are able to advocate for themselves! The VA has to do better and see people like her OUT! That’s how you get better care for Veterans!

If I could give ZERO STARS, I would!! Went to the ER where I was seen by provider Alloco. I can't even tell you what type of provider he actually is, because he barely introduced himself. I had to get his name from the nurse at the desk. He refused to listen to me and threw his hands in the air and walked out of the room while I was telling him my concerns. He was unprofessional, lacked empathy and compassion and was clearly disinterested in providing the best care. I am a veteran with numerous related medical issues that were caused by errors medical professionals made while I was in the service. I deserve better care and treatment.

I once thought Edward Hines took care of not only its veterans but also the people who worked to keep those Veterans as comfortable and as happy as possible. I once volunteered with the biomedical engineering team at the age of 12 back in 2009 every summer until the age of 18. There were a fantastic group, and I generally thought it was both a privilege and an honor to work with them. But that all changed, as a family member of mine was practically thrown under the bus and given suspension because of a social worker who did not do their job when they were needed for another family member of mine who was a Vietnam veteran, and then said social worker worked hard to cover their mistakes made sure my family paid the price for calling them out. Also to blame are the administration who's in charge of the daily operations of taking care of the veterans and the doctors who worked with my family who did NOT stand up for them to prove their innocence. Because of these recent events I have lost all my trust to Edward Hines VA Hospital. There are signs of negligence towards the staff who work as best as they can. This is supposed to be a hospital meant to take care of our soldiers men and women no matter of ethnicity were part of the US military who came home scarred, mentally damaged and wounded and bring them back so they could once again smile and breathe a sigh of relief that they're once again on their home soil. Instead I find a hospital overrun by staff who turn not on my turn a blind eye to a handful of veterans and other staff, but also only look out for themselves and not willing to stand up for others when they know when they're things that are wrong and must be called out, they only think to keep their heads down and think everything will be fine. How wrong they are... I will never again trust this hospital and its administration. The VA was supposed to protect and serve and help its people Veterans as well as its own citizens and it failed spectacularly

Terrible service and care for veterans, if you want to live don't go here as they simply gaslight and overdose vets in meds they don't need all in the name of churn and burn. The lady at front desk in ear nose and throat is rude and even their doctor there said so and yet they allow her to mistreat vets to this day still. Don't use better off buying your own Healthcare than using them, don't walk run from here!

You have an actual PA there that assists with Cardiac Surgery by the name of Natalie Mecum who just posted one of the most vile comments on social media I’ve seen in awhile. I couldn’t imagine ever going under the knife knowing these are the angry vile gals assisting my surgeon and a heart surgeon to boot. She’s a mom also so it’s quite disturbing. I don’t know about everyone else but I want to know anyone I see medically is @ least 1/2 way stable and not expressing pent up anger on a silly social media post. I am always stunned these are educated professionals. I wouldn’t send my elderly relatives to anyone with that much bottled anger. Ever.

Released undiagnosed with home oxygen and assured Monday be there and no o2 and no call, then was told to do a Stat cardiac CT and that never happened... can you see where this is going. They have displayed multiple times that their work is not revolving around veterans Healthcare but more of a 3 ring circus. Events as they have happened. 1. Released from inpatient after being gas lighted by a doc I met one time 2. Asked to come back 12 hours later after being released with a positive blood culture. 3. Then Released undiagnosed and given more meds which as being told now caused serintonin syndrome and lucky for me I took myself off them before it was worse. 4. Then admitted back in for 7 days with all kinds of tests and then released with new diagnosis and home o2 which was assured to be delivered by today but that didn't happen. 5. Then they failed to setup my cardiac CT as well with a ongoing high bp and cardiac issue still lingering undiagnosed If you want to live avoid this place as they are simply incapable of doing their job which we paid for and earned the right to have someone do their job when our health is a issue. Will never return for anything outside of a flu shot as they are simply a crapshow and worst of all they know it. Also when I was low on o2 while there the nurse called the night doctor to authorize and he refused , lucky for me my family and general counsel was there and when doc finally came to see me he explained it was a misunderstanding and the hospital would never deny a vet o2 if called for but nurse sat there and assured me that's exactly what they did.

I've had it with this place. I take my dad here because he is a veteran. I work at a large hospital system and if I made the mistakes that these people consistently make, I would no longer have a job. Get it together! Or hire someone who can make this place efficient because you guys need HELP!

If I could give this no stars I gladly would. Even though I don't go here, I have heard so many horrible disgusting things about this place in particular, despite they should be taking full care for free of veterans ETC. This is a shame that I have to write this review and I have never even been there nor am I a veteran. But the disgusting things that I have heard about this place, I would not recommend it go to rush or Christ hospital instead. Thanks in advance

I do not recommend this place at all. I called the hospital to request an appointment with my primary as that was in the instructions from the ER. I told them I need a follow up appointment and some pain medicine as I could only find Tylenol and not the Motrin that was recommended for my injury. I was told to come to the ER again, because my doctor was only doing telehealth. I went again like I was instructed and they treated me like a drug addict just for asking for Motrin! I could not help crying and hyperventilating. I had my fiancé drive me 40 minutes to get there just for some Motrin and another X-ray which is all I wanted. They kept making comments like, “I don’t want you nodding out in front of your kids and “I don’t recommend narcotics for this type of injury.” I NEVER asked for narcotics! You ASSumed I wanted narcotics, but you clearly were not listening to me. I even showed them my previous discharge instructions to prove that I was told I could take Tylenol and Motrin, but I literally cannot keep going to store after store looking for the ibuprofen with an injured foot. Please stop stereotyping people. I never asked for drugs so I could “nod out.” That hurt my feelings. I came for help like I was instructed and instead I was stereotyped. What makes matters worse is the nurse (Sarah) would not give me the Patient Advocate number. She pretended like she did not know what or who the patient advocates were or that Hines VA even had patient advocates. Another worker yelled into the room that she would give me the number and that’s when Sarah stopped being rude to me. I decided to call the operator and leave a message for the Patient Advocates. I do not want any other veteran to go through what I went through. Again, I only wanted Motrin and another X-ray as the pain was worse! I told them my pain was 9/10 which it was and they still took forever to bring the Motrin. Motrin is only ibuprofen! I just could not find it in stores near me!

The PAS department (the people who schedule appointments and answer the phones) at Hines, is ABSOLUTELY the worse part of being a patient at Hines hospital. Trying to RETURN a call to schedule an appointment, waiting on hold over 20 minutes, just to be hung up on is UNACCEPTABLE. It’s a disgrace to the Veterans serving our country. Upper management does absolutely NOTHING! Changes need to be made. TERRIBLE first impression for our new Veterans trying to seek health care.

After 55 years trying to get my benefits and finally receiving them in 2020 I find today it is still a fight with them. I had a seizure in the hospital today trying to walk from the commissary to the ER when I stopped a security guard to tell him I was in trouble. He sat me down in a chair and called for help. Nurse doctor came to help me and told me Emergency Room was best I agreed. The Broadview para medics came loaded me on the cart to drive me to the ER. They bring me in to get chastised by a nurse for she tells them THEY are on BYPASS. I hear this and go crazy and stand up to pull the IV out of my arm. They try to calm me down but the damage has already been done. The VA still resent me. VA who are you there for, I guess not me.

I have been going to Hines for about 14 years. I've run the gambit, from annual visits with my primary care doctor to consults with specialty doctors, tests, scans and surgeries. The medical people, meaning doctors, nurses and medical techs, are great, much better than in the private system I used to go to for care. However, then there are the non-medical staff. Dealing with clerks to make an appointment, get information and stuff like that is often a negative experience. They seem to be interested only in knowing what day they get paid. Forget the veterans; they might then be required to do some actual work. That's not to say that they are all from that mold. There are some who genuinely want to help and be of service. But the bad apples in the non-medical group are much more numerous than in the medical providers group.

Really needed help after a bad line of unfortunate events, redering me homeless. The mental health ward was able to accept me in after contracting COVID for the 2nd time. Doctor McMilon, was able to immediately diagnose issues and treat quickly. Hands down the friendliest staff, making singing groups, bean bag games, and church services with an actual pastor plus keyboard playing. During stay, I had clean paper; clothes and towels for showering. Very updated follow up care with Video conferencing treatment & equipment. They even supplied me an IPAD for treatment care. Highly recommended

Needed to reschedule an appointment that was never put in correctly as I'm a first time patient and the associate Darnell was so rude and condescending. He put the phone down several times to laugh and talk about me to another employee as I explained the situation and what I needed and even to ask my astrological sign and say "thought so". Wow, this is how yall treat veterans? Maybe you should ask if I was a new patient beforehand or actually listened as I explained I am and that I was told the process. It's not my fault it wasn't put into your system causing me to have to reschedule!

I’m right now homeless. I applied to the Hudvash and qualified because I was a 4 family house hold. Submitted all my paper work and qualified. I then had one of my family member leave and went down to 3 family house hold. I had to re applied and re did paper work. At this point no one re evaluated my pay stubs to see if I qualified as a family member of 3. I was told to attend To two more appointments for the process. I attended these appointments even when my car was not working,I took Ubers to make it there because I really need the help. Can’t save money there Ubers can be expensive. To the point that I was told I was going to get a voucher and I was called by the housing authority to do the final steps to move in. Having my hopes up, yay !!finally my children and I are going to be housed. The week of moving date I was called and told I was over qualified. I informed the VA homeless people on the fourth floor mid February that my family size was brought down to 3 and no one took in reconsideration, that maybe I could of been over qualified. 2 weeks go by and I’m being told yes I’m getting housed yes you’ll get your voucher, catholic charities is paying for your stay til you get this place and for what to be told your over qualified on move in week. Who forgot to re-evaluate my application, my income and the maximum of how much I should be making to get this assistance?? Not me. I was honest about everything and because of their mistake, for not catching the income treshhold on time all I’m getting is I’m sorry but you and your kids need to go elsewhere and find help, you have other options. No I’m a veteran and I will get help from the VA. That mistake they made, my children will not pay for their mistake. Not only that but they exhausted funds from catholic charities. Around the time I told them, hey I am no longer a family of 4 but 3 right there and then they should of Re evaluated my income, catching it on Time so that my children and I are not put in the predicament where I’m back at square one. (Homeless) Because they failed to recalculate I’m being told go find some other organization. Time and money wasted for me and catholic charities because the VA isn’t paying for my hotel stay, catholic charities is paying for it . I have children!!! This isnt right?? So because of their mistake my children and I are put in a spot where we may not have a home and I may live in my car with them!! Thanks people of the homeless for vets thanks a lot!!

I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING Hines Hospital for about 2 years now...I was shocked at just how good the overall considerations given and treatments of my needs...this place is FANTASTIC. I would like to thank all who work at this hospital for a job well done. I realize everyone’s needs and experiences can differ...but as I read some of the reviews I really question some of the bad reviews because I just don’t see it in my visits. Again thank you to all who work here and provide superior care.

My nephew is in desperate need of a hip replacement.... this VA hospital has cancelled and re-scheduled his surgery 4 times in the last 5 months. He is the nicest guy! Now he is off work because he in is such extreme pain and can't even walk.... and NOT getting paid! UGH! He has a family!... spent 10 years in the Marines serving our country! He's had other past health issues and never great service from here. Please!... just do the surgery he needs!!!

Everyone at Hines is amazing, caring and do their best to meet the needs for our veterans. Jesse Brown may have a better facility but it is cold inside from the employees. They do not go out of their way to help you. I love the atmosphere and care we receive every time we enter the building. My only issue is the parking, it is not fair to the veterans to have to park in the parking lot so far away. Especially in the rain and snow. That is the only negative I have with Hines. We are thinking about moving closer to home but the doctor, our home nurse Gwen Hicks is really hard to replace.

I called to try and start a process of getting help with veteran benefits and the person on the phone was 100% uninterested in being helpful at all. It's unreal to me that anyone would bother serving if they cannot even get the help they need after. Do better for your veterans.

My dad is in a room on 7 East and we have the best nurses. Eden, Arlene, Jim, Tim, Marlo, Darius, Kevin, Stella, Janelle, Josh, Rey, Ursula, Isabella and many others (who I will try to remember their names and post them here) are attentive, kind, gracious, and very intelligent. Not only did they take excellent care of my dad, but also when I dropped my beverage and started to cry, they brought me a little ginger ale to try and make me feel better. You can tell they truly care. 7 East nurses are awesome.

Went to the VA asking for help with homelessness. The transitional facility turned me away because "As a disabled veteran I was making more money than their techs working in the homeless facility." So they were jealous and sent me away from the homeless shelter just because I made more money than their employees at the shelter. So instead of staying in a homeless shelter and saving my VA disability to purchase a house, I instead get to spend my VA disability on paying for hotels since I have no other place to live. Your tax dollars at work! Paying for America's hotels instead of paying for something worthwhile! Really smart. Really smart! I've never thought of myself as being smart but these people make me feel like a freaking genius. "You're not r3tarded!!!!" ----a homeless shelter employee said to me in another city/state

This VA is one of the best hospitals I have been too. The people that work here care and you can tell that by how you are treated at this facility. I have spoke with many veterans here and they all say the same thing, some of them travel hours just to go to this VA even though they have their own VA facility close by they choose Edward Hines Jr. VA. My previous VA experience was not as positive at other VA hospitals. This hospital has changed my entire outlook on receiving care at a VA hospital.

After 6 days of "toughing it out," I decided to go to the ER here. The front desk staff kindly told me I had to register there (I thought my info would transfer between hospitals everywhere). The guy at the Admissions desk was super kind! When I finally got called back in the ER, which wasn't a long wait thankfully, everyone was so nice and personable and I felt I was being listened to! I had only gotten the names of two of my caretakers - Dr. Cordero and Barb, my nurse. This was my first ER experience and I'm so happy it was a great one, all things considered!

Worst hospital for veterans ever. They care less about patients and their families. Very rude and unprofessional people I've ever met in my life. This hospital needs to be torn down. The GU unit in the basement needs a health inspector to come in. They give patients dixie cups to urinate in with no lids or biohazard bags. There were about a dozen Dixie cups full people's pee sitting on the entire countertop of the lab part of the GU unit. That is so unsanitary and unhealthy for people to breath that was very disgusting. Stray dogs are treated better then veterans

Over few years it changed from good to bad. For the most part I used to get what I need. The dental used to be good, now it sucks. It seems like they tried to change few years ago and it made me believe it is a good hospital. Well it went back to what it used to be. Understaffed. So it is better to go to FHCC if you can.

I’ve used this facility few times and the service is always great; all the staff are absolutely wonderful in providing the best service. What I’d like to comment on is the state of entire building 200. It’s old and in need of major remodel. The other buildings connected are run down as well. The dining facilities are really bad in appearance and do not present the appearance that they should. There are four or five places to choose food from at the dining area and each doesn’t look appealing nor appetizing; food just looks bland. I didn’t buy any food so I can’t comment on its taste. Veterans deserve more modern facility than what’s being presented here.

I've been going to Hines for twenty years. I can count the bad experiences I've had on one hand. The staff does a hard, demanding job for thousands of veterans s day. Neurosurgeon Joseph Serrone has literally changed my entire life, he and his staff are truly a gift from the Lord, as well as Dr Colletta in neurology, far above any civilian doctors. God bless everyone at Hines!

Every time I call they transfer me to the wrong number and when I get them to request a consult for community care they say they did it but it never gets done. Im going to have to pay for my own dentistry even as a 100 percent disabled veteran because the Hines dental clinic is so incompetent.

I filed for reimbursement for an emergency femoral artery transplant in 2008, and was denied due to not having a prior authorization. I spent $10,000 out of pocket. How are you supposed to get prior authorization at 6pm and your leg has 15 minutes left to live before being amputated without an arterial transplant? It doesn't make much sense to tell us to get emergency care if it's needed immediately, and then deny their claim because they listened

Things seem to have taken a turn for the worse in the last couple of years at Hines. Phone people are rude, there are long waits for appointments, clinics are overcrowded, doctors seem overworked, and many of my regular doctors left after COVID. Now, I rarely have the same doctor twice. I also got sepsis from a recent biopsy procedure. Not Happy!

Let's walk through a typical visit at Hines VA hospital. Typically you may call them via phone. Opening with hearing "if you are having thoughts of suicide call the veterans crisis line". Truthfully I'm not even suicidal till I have to be transferred 8 different times and hear that same prompt every time I'm transferred. Okay so now you've been transferred around you're getting a little agitated. I usually can get ahold of a telehealth representative who will hear me out and say "oh yeah! We'll call you back". 8/10 times I have never received a call back. So today specifically I go through the minutia of making the calls, getting through a fit of suicidal ideation from all the times I've been transferred thus far. I called this morning with chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing etc. It was suggested to me to go to the ER at the wonderful VA Hines. I arrived and was directed to go through the tent outside due to my symptoms. I sat there for 30-45 minutes for a Medical Doctor to very briefly listen to my symptoms despite having explained them to 7 different people at this point. And he proceeded with a physical exam where he listened to one side of my back?? And then looked down my throat. They had me do a "rapid" strep and COVID test. At which point they came back negative they told me I was good to go? Out of confusion I said I'm good to go? Just to double check with the less than enthusiastic medical assistant at the desk who clearly just wanted me to go away. Feeling like I wasted my time, I still have shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing symptoms and now I'm sitting at home. Im pretty concerned at this time with my breathing and I hope things will get better without the help of the My primary care doctor or the VA Hines emergency department staff. Wish me luck! I hope I'm still alive by the time you read this.

When I tried using the VA back in the 90's it was a bureaucratic mess. It was a lot of the old "hurry up and wait" routine and it was mostly wait. It took me over an hour just to get an identification card. I stopped using the VA because of it's inability to help the veteran expeditiously. I began using the VA again about two years ago and I am really surprised at the improvements and the quality of care I now receive from them. They ensure that I am informed about all of my appointments, notify me when changes have been made to those appointments, and the care and attention given is rated as A1! I was once checking in for an appointment at one of their kiosks and they were calling me to see the doctor before the kiosk could finish processing the sign in. Once I am in with the caregiver, I feel as though I am the only patient they are attending to for the day. They dont just prescribe a course of action, they listen to my concerns and work with me to help solve my issues and take the time to ensure I understand my treatment. Overall, I could confidently say that the VA is, now, the best healthcare provider I have ever used. They are the most courteous and professional staff that I have ever experienced and I really appreciate the respect I am given as a veteran and, most importantly, a patient. This place is rated as number 1 in my book. Thank you and keep up the great work.

I greatly appreciate my team of doctors and nurses. They take the time to explain my medical plan in great detail and make adjustments accordingly. There’s no red tape, getting pre-approval from an insurance adjuster, so the medical staff takes all precautionary measures to ensure your health is protected by getting X-rays, scans, testing etc. Keep up the excellent work. I highly appreciate your dedication to helping all Veterans.

This hospital has thoroughly evaluated my uncle, treated him with the utmost respect. He shunned going to the hospital but now he makes sure I take him to all his appointments. Wonderful, caring staff.

ER...They have the most compassionate and knowledgeable doctors I have ever experienced. Dr. Lindy Triebas and Dr. William H. Brundidge Jr. were excellent in figuring out what was wrong with my brother and prescribing the rehab care he needed to get stronger. My brother and I can't thank these doctors enough.

Hines has a very pleasant atmosphere for a government entity. We have had a couple of unpleasant experiences, however, these pale in comparison to the kind patient, caring concern, as well as genuine gratitude shown to my husband for his service to our country! We are truly blessed!!

Whatever the medical issues Ive brought have always been treated with utmost respect and efficacy. My experiences, outcomes, doctors, nurses and staff have been great. Only gave 4 stars to leave room for improvement. Wait times can be a tad long- - - understandable with quantity of people being served.

I'm a sister of a Veteran that often drove him to his doctors appointments. He past away in July 2019. I do appreciate the care provider to him by his medical team. However, I am extremely disappointed in the information provided in order for Him to obtain disability, there is no way as long as my brother suffered, the "REAL" information about his condition was not provided. My prayer is that WE as a country do better about our Veterans....!!!!After All they put their lives on the line daily for our safety!!! We have no idea what veterans or their families go through!!! WE MUST DO BETTER!!! We should have no Veterans living in the streets/homeless!!!

I recently returned to the VA Hospital, but it was for my 1st Outpatient procedure. I received Outstanding CARE and more!! David from vascular was in constant contact scheduling and doing his best to set everything up during COVID. On the day of the procedure, I was taken care of by this AMAZING team. I really felt like the only patient in surgical. I want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Dixon, Pinky, RN Tommy, the entire vascular team that made the procedure possible, Dr. Salt, and my Recovery was nothing short of professional and incredible bedside manner with RN Santiago. I am extremely grateful for the staff that made sure I was comfortable during every step. Thank you so very much:)

On my Dads last week of life he was tied to a bed, denied mental health treatment and the day he died the medical team was befuddled. How can that be? Today when they called and asked me “if they should just throw his possessions away since the funeral home didn’t pick them up” I decided to tell the Google about his treatment. How do you start a phone call with such a cruel request? If I could describe his stay in 1 word I would choose the word Traumatic. Please avoid this facility at all costs.

This review serves serves as an online petition to have dr kalmar ER Dr. Terminated from his post as an ER DR. at Hines V.A Never in my lifetime have I ever encountered a doctor so extremely unprofessional lacking of compassion empathy & remorse treating patients unhumanely , moreover Dr Kalmar lacks any redeemable qualities that any quality medical professional should have. The thought of any of my battle brothers and sisters having to deal with such a low quality man is unbearable. In fact DR. Kalmar thinks so highly of himself he made it a point to tell me repeatedly that "I'm on his time" And made it a point to threaten me with the Hines VA police several times. After threatening me with the Hines VA police several times I decided it was best for me too take my leave as this whole ordeal had already caused me to be late to pick up my minor child whom I have sole custody of at this time doctor Kalmar informed me that he was recording our conversation on his personal device which is the violation of HIPAA law as I never gave my consent to be recorded. In addition to the aforementioned as medical professional you're there to be a servant to the people to men and women that have served this country veterans that have signed a blank check payable up into their lives, to be degraded belittled and talk down to as if there is 2nd class citizen by someone who holds the title of "doctor" that is supposed to provide quality care is inconceivable. On September 23rd 2022 Dr. Agnew performed ortho hand surgery removal of plates screws and other hardware on my right hand due to the extensive nature of the surgery I was injected with nerve blockers in my neck which now has severe bruising and a golf ball size knot in my armpit I was also given anesthesia. Upon my discharge I was only given 5 norco 5 mg by (Bianca A. Dichiaro) & told to come back for follow up in 2 weeks over the weekend my pinky and ring finger swelled to the size of my thumb and turned purple which led me to my ER visit today. I put in a message over the my healthy vet system over the weekend and my message was not returned until Monday September 26, 2022 I was instructed by a representative from the Hines VA orthohand clinic to come to the Hines ER and request my surgeon Dr. Agnew to be paged as they would look at the swelling on my hand neck and armpit and give me much needed pain medication. After this whole ordeal no pain medication was given. Complaints will be filed with the patient advocate the Better Business Bureau as well as the State medical board. United We Stand we do have a voice brothers and sisters it's time over voice is heard.

Dr. Hessinger has helped me through some very dark and trying times in my life. Without his help I do not know where I'd be. He's an invaluable asset to the VA and his department. He genuinely cares and just doesn't listen but offers guidance and support throughout the whole process. I do not talk to anyone about my life or experiences. But Dr. Hessinger slowly got me away from that mentality I was stuck in. I still struggle at times but at least I know now there is a person who understands and is always there to help! He saved my life! Thanks Doc!

The most god awful healthcare service ever. I can honestly see why 22 veterans a day take their lives, it’s not just because of PTSD. It’s because they don’t get the proper care or treatment needed, whether illness, physical or mental/behavior health.

At first, when I first started coming here a few years ago, I wasn't too happy with my treatment team, but after replacing the providers that I didn't find as caring and/or knowledgeable enough (not a difficult process), I would have a very hard time moving to an area, served by another VA Clinic/hospital. I came here from Jesse Brown, which I wouldn't recommend to an enemy, for reasons not necessary to explain here. As far as Hines VAH, the only problem is that many providers are located a long distance (all indoor) from each other; one building alone is a mile long; but to their defense, they do offer transportation, to push you in a wheelchair from one place to another. Also, their spinal clinic is one of only a few nationwide locations, and I hear it's top notch, but I have no personal experience. I hope this was helpful, and I hope you have a great day!

I had my first appointment at Hines VA yesterday. I found staff and patients without exception to be helpful and friendly. My appointment began exactly on time. My doctor was very experienced and seemed to genuinely care about my well being. My appointment as well as future appointments was completely free. If I need a prescription this is also without charge. It’s great to be at a place where the interactions can be about my care instead of the financial charges on my bill. If your a veteran seriously consider enrolling at Hines VA!

I was fortunate to be treated by The Hines staff who were both professional & personal. I was always kept abreast of the road ahead with my 2nd TKR. I also have my primary care doc. at Hines. Whatever problems I may have encountered I know in my heart that everyone is trying their best.

I’m very grateful for the service to veterans, but with an entire building filled with people smart enough to become doctors, you’d think they’d figure out something about the parking. The parking is atrocious, absolutly we’ll beyond sub par and that’s being generous. The valets are slow and unhelpful causing people who are very sick to park very far away from the building. I was late to more than my fair share of appointments due to the parking alone! I hate coming to this hospital for that reason when I do in fact need to go since the military cause me a lot of medical issues. Please Hines, fix your parking situation, systemic, top to bottom so we all can make our appointments

Tried calling the Billing Dept. for a 99 year old legally blind World War II Veteran and he was treated very unfairly. He cannot hear and friends were trying to help him on a 3 way call to get insurance info. Georgie and Renee were rude. You need to learn how to talk with respect to the elderly and not treat them like they are stupid. After all, we are free because of them! The VA put his name wrong in their system not us and therefore couldn't verify him. Ridiculous!!!!

I wanted to share my wonderful experience I had at Hines. The staff was amazing, Joe the Ed nurse, Susan the Med Surge nurse, and Dr. Long from Med Surge were awesome. One nurse that really stood out was Chelsea from Med Surge, Chelsea was very knowledgeable, caring and went above and beyond during my stay. Thank you Chelsea!
