I really wish I Could give this place NO stars. I will be filing a lawsuit against this hospital on Monday 11/28. I honestly can't even give the BBB a full complaint because its not enough characters for me to explain the entire story. This is the worst hospital that one can ever invent. From the nurses, to the attending doctors, to the managers, to the charge nurses, etc. This hospital basically just threw their hands up in the air when it came to my grandfather. One charge nurse, Dr. Farooqi to be exact looked me in my face and told me to let me grandfather go to hospice. He told me that I'm keeping him in pain by letting him sit in the room and get the correct nutrients he needs. Come to find out, I didn't have to let him go to hospice because his x rays were incorrect. Imagine how many people do not have the medical terminology to know exactly what to do. Luckily, I received a second opinion and he is not in hospice. As of now I am working on a transfer to get him out before they just let him die. It so much more to this story but I promise I'm doing everything in my power to have this hospital get what they deserve. I feel so sorry for the family members who didn't have the correct knowledge when it came to their family members. But they picked the right grandfather to throw their hands up with. -An African American Doctor.

My sister stayed at the hospital for a week. She had hard time breathing and was brought to the emergency. She had some tests and also an angiogram done. The doctors never come to tell her/us the outcome of the tests. Yes we asked several times and her nurse told her/us, that’s all I know. A day before her discharge, she was told that she had diastolic heart failure. Nobody told her or anyone of us being with her all the time, that she had also an artery blocked 50% and that she had a mild heard attack. We found all the information from her personal cardiologist that she visited later. I strongly urge nobody, nobody to go to Weiss memorial hospital. One of the worst hospital in the Chicago area.

My mom is currently in this hospital the second time this year and this place is horrible. It's hard to get a nurse to talk to you and they never call you back or anything. They promised my mom a wheelchair or a very least a walker but they never gave it to her and they complain that she should be walking around. Ok but maybe provide her a walker then??? Now my mom is completely immobile and starting to show early signs of possible Alzheimer's or dementia some being hospitalized in February. She was doing great til then though although she had mobility issues. Now she has issue after issue after issue Look I understand that it's a pandemic but this place should do a better job and call their loved ones daily. EDITED unfortunately my mom passed away under their care. Never bring your loved ones here

Believe the reviews, it's a bad hospital. That isn't to knock the people who work there. The Drs, Nurses, techs etc all genuinely do care and do the best that they can but the hospital itself is poorly ran by a for profit company that is recovering from bankruptcy. This means they need to cut costs without cutting into the bottom line, and it shows. If you can, avoid at all costs

I'm at the same day surgery on the 2nd flr. Very unprofessional. Workers are very loud for a hospital. A lot of untrained and disrespectful workers. Incompetent management of its employees! I requested a patient representative and was denied several times. DANGEROUS! I pray I'm still alive after the surgery!!!! Just edited: All the workers left for lunch and left me unattended!

This hospital’s visitor policy is unacceptable. The hours are unrealistic (11am-7pm*); all other hospitals I know have visitor hours 8am-8pm. I have a difficult schedule and attempted to visit my family member this evening around 6:45pm and planned to be in and out. The security staff close the front doors by 6:30pm instead without announcing it to the public it looks like. Without guidance from an employee, I would not know that there’s a door that IS open around the corner. I go through to attempt to find directions from the public safety desk, the first front desk visible upon walking in. They tell me at 6:50pm that I cannot go up as if I am not capable of making it up and downstairs within a reasonable time frame. They had an unprofessional and hostile attitude to begin with. I drove an hour to try to make it to visit my family member. Every time we have a family member at Weiss, there are so many issues. Stop employing people with no communication skills. Hospitals are places of healing, yet these public safety officers were ready to yell at me when I told them it is not 7PM yet, it is 6:50PM and I will be back down here by 7. I am a PCT at a hospital elsewhere who has worked in the field for many years and therefore am familiar with how this should work. Change your hours to 6:30pm, I guess, as 7pm is a lie. Very inconsiderate staff.

Easily the least competent hospital I have ever dealt with. Everything from their appointments to their recordkeeping is a nightmare. You'll have to call several times before they'll even pick up, and then they'll redirect you to the wrong department (this has happened 3 times) so you have to keep starting over. The operators have limited English skills so everything will be harder than it needs to be. Just avoid this hospital at all costs.

I had never heard of this hospital until yesterday when I needed to take a refugee family to get immediate care in the ER. The hospital seemed alright once we all got there and they found an Arabic speaking interpreter when we needed one for the patient. After registration, she and her son sat down to wait, and this is where it became ridiculous and utterly unacceptable. We expected the wait time to be long. 5 hours later and they are still waiting and now she is cold, still struggling with severe pain and no one has called them to be seen, not even triage. It's now 11pm and her son has school today, so she is cold and wants to go home. I have been to a lot of hospital emergency rooms in Chicago, even the county hospital, but I have never experienced a wait time like this. Our refugee family decided that they wanted to go home and we chose to take them home and apologized profusely about the hospital, letting them know that not all the hospitals will treat them like this and that this was not the norm in Chicago. We left thoroughly disappointed and saddened by the service and treatment of patients, and like I said, I have experienced a great number of hospital emergency rooms in different Chicago hospitals, but never had service that was this terrible. Even after calling and speaking to someone about our wait, they showed no empathy and just stated that this was normal and we should wait for 8 hrs to be seen. This is not a good beginning for any medical care and I know now not to attend this hospital under any circumstances.

I spent roughly a week and a half here under the care of Dr. Loren Schechter. I was pretty out of it until about day 4 of post-op, and I was in a lot of pain due to the nature of my surgery, but the staff - nurses, RN's, techs, PA's, physical therapists, social workers, doctors, whoever - were all AMAZING. My goodness, they were amazing. Dr. Schechter and his medical team are top notch, and the food served was also pretty darn good. I had a very nice view of the Lake, which was especially beautiful as I was in the hospital during mid-January. I am glad that I chose Weiss Memorial Hospital and Dr. Schechter, I am glad the staff was so profoundly competent and nice, and I am glad for the quality of care I received.

Went in with a broken collarbone. The doctor said (without even looking or testing range of motion or asking me a single question) that it was dislocated. I could feel and see the bone protruding. They told me to go get Motrin and give it a couple weeks. I demanded X-rays. The X-ray showed it was broken as well as my elbow. Then they again told me to leave and buy Motrin. This was from a scooter crash I had open abrasions all over me and they didn’t even treat anything not even a bandaid. As I was leaving in excruciating pain I was screaming and holding up my own broken arm (no cast no sling, nothing) while the doctor, the horrible good awful nurse, and 4 other staff members stood within 5 feet of me and no one helped at all. The nurse just told me be quiet and the security people laughed at me. No discharge paperwork. Just turned me loose humiliated with a snapped collarbone. Going to Midwest today hopefully get some of this treated. I’ve never been treated so dangerously and recklessly in my life. That hospital is filthy and the ER needs to be shut down. That nurse has no business dealing with patients. And if those are doctors, I’m Oprah Winfrey.

I was utterly appalled and disgusted by my treatment at Weiss Memorial this past week and weekend. I was admitted after having a seizure but was not told anything helpful after I became coherent again. Like another review said, the attending physicians kept passing the buck and left me to be a liaison amongst them. Really???? I told doctors, nurses, and dietitians I saw during my stay MULTIPLE TIMES that I have severe food allergies, the most potent being legumes (peanuts, soy, beans, etc). I cannot even be in the same room or I’ll go into anaphylaxis shock. On my third day, what did they bring me for lunch? Beans. Beans!!! I spent my entire stay terrified that I was going to die in there and passed time by trying to just sleep even though I wasn’t tired. I still do not know what the doctors discussed as they never relayed it to me. It wasn’t until I got a malpractice lawyer involved and my care team that knows the correct dosage of my medication that I was discharged. I had to fight them tooth and nail to get the smallest amount of information. And now I’m home with a poor ability of understanding what happened. Thanks Weiss. You’ll be hearing from my attorneys for sure! And take a look at these gnarly IV spots. I was prodded 6 times but not because they couldn’t find a vein. You tell me if these look like whomever placed them knew what they were doing.

The treatment here is utterly astounding. Avoid this place. The service here is slow, the doctors don't speak to you, they delay care and are incompetent. I'm surprised this place is still open. To the owner. No one is calling you and your terrible service. Get new doctors. 232 reviews and 3 stars??? Shame on you and your service. Your doctors don't speak to patients they pass the buck and wait 48 hours to speak to someone.

UNSAFE. Steve Buckner, the security guard at the ER, knew I had a dislocated shoulder, physically shoved me against a wall, and tried to steal my phone, and told me he was going to “break my f-into shoulder” because I was sitting in his chair because he had walked off his shift. I had to go to a different hospital to get further injuries he inflicted treated. I plan to sue this hospital.

An absolutely atrocious experience in every way possible. I came for extreme pain and wasn’t even given a room for four hours. I wasn’t seen by anyone, even a nurse, for over another hour. Staff were rude, didn’t believe me, mistreated me, insinuated my extreme pain was fake and that I was seeking drugs for coming for a serious chronic pain/disability issue. A nurse even took my emergency help button away (????). It was extremely insulting and I highly advise anyone who desires medical care to avoid Weiss Memorial Hospital. Disgusting.

This review is for the women's health center. I was a patient of Dr. Butler-Mooyoung. Her nurse frankly is not very competent. I spent 10 minutes with her on the phone trying to explain a simple issue in a way that she could understand and take a proper note on. It then a full week for me to get a "response" on a very urgent message regarding my health. I messaged her and the doctor online as well as called them several times just to be told that I would have to make another appointment for an inquiry that can easily be taken care of over the phone. The inquiry was a simple birth control question. I cannot afford to make an appointment every time I have a question, nor do I have the time to constantly be taking off work for appointments. I will be going somewhere with more competent staff and compassion towards their patients. So frustrated and disappointed.

I always have such great interactions with nurses and staff here. I had a surgery done recently and felt so comfortable and cared for. Very thankful for the team I had in my side. Even with new nurses, registration, and the clean-up crew I run into walking in the halls, they never fail to make me smile. Thank you

I expected this to happen in the near future; but still taken aback tonight in Weiss' ER. I give 1 star for a wait time under 12 hrs, I give 1 star for the pleasant personnel. I give nothing to the nurse who smelled like he was vaping. He disconnected the IV without clamping it, got the fluid everywhere including my street clothes. I jumped up and told him to get away from me, and that I wanted another nurse. It's sad to see people get addicted to marijuana. Willing to jeopardize their jobs, their homes, families, etc. This nurse or could be responsible for a life and he can't come to work without getting his high on!! Completely inexcusable. I went to Weis due to chronic illness and thought it best to not wait until Monday. I won't make that same mistake again.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Horrible place. Ridiculous how the wait time in the ER was well over an hour and 30 minutes. Not to mention the ripped glove that was used while examining my father. Zero explanation to what the test results meant or what was found. Plus his test results were mixed in with another patient’s info. Utterly disappointed. If you need any type or medical assistance, avoid this place.

The intake lady made me go back outside to where there was a box of masks, even though I was definitely a fall risk, as if I was visiting a doctors office and not the emergency room. I then sat there and signed a ton of paperwork even though I could barely hold a pen. And while I was in the exam room still waiting to see a doctor, she came back to collect payment. I cannot stress this enough, the intake lady was awful. I was lightheaded, dizzy, my arms were numb, I was naseus, my heart was racing, and I couldnt breathe. I was having a severe adverse reaction to a new drug that I just took for the first time. With this knowledge, the ER doctor concluded I was just having night terrors. That was after waiting 3 hours to see her. I do want to acknowledge the EKG guy and nurse, Ian and Ahmed (I think). They were wonderful, but I won't be back. Who knows what would've happened if I accepted that ridiculous diagnosis and took my medication again.

An ER doctor attend to my mother one time. She’s asthmatic and was going through lung problems. My mother was crying out for help and the nurses kept telling my mother to be quite. And then soon after that, the doctor had security take my mother outside while she was in a wheelchair and left her outside… I’m not going into details on what happened after. This hospital is poor and have bad doctors. They don’t care for your well being. It’s just a job for them really but they treat you like you don’t matter. Don’t go here.

Been coming here for years. Let's be realistic, this hospital has been going downhill for awhile . my appointment may be for let's say 9:00 but I won't get seen til 10:30 am and it's been this way for years. I know this doctor overbooks but when you have an appointment an almost 90 min wait is unacceptable. Having FMLA papers filled out for my job shouldn't take 2 weeks to fill out or sometimes longer. The radiology dept should give prep kits before appointment. You come in for an appointment only to be told you have to go to register which takes about 30 mins at least and then you get to radiology and then you go back to get the test done only to given a pitcher of water solution and told your test will be 90 mins from the time you drink test solution (but the wait was 2 hours) they don't tell you prep directions when scheduling, they are very poor in this area. The doctors are very poor in follow-up care or giving patient the results of tests. The quality of care has really went downhill so I have been slowly taking my care to a much more updated hospital that has more doctors available and more modern equipment, and doctors who will follow up with results instead of forgetting about you..

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A $0 BALANCE. I happened to move after my ER visit at this hospital, didn’t receive any of the co insurance bills left on my balance. Then boom i check my credit and it’s down THREE HUNDRED POINTS. Over not even $1k really? The care wasn’t even worth it, i waited in an empty ER waiting room for 20min throwing up & they hardly checked on me after.

Extremely frustrating experience. Long wait times for a SCHEDULED appointment despite no other patients around, only got seen once we reminded the staff we were waiting in an exam room. Simple labs ordered incorrectly, more administrative incompetence on the outpatient lab floor. Steer clear if possible.

This is a review specifically for the Wound Care Clinic. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful and kind the wound care team at Weiss is. My mother went in with a cat scratch that unfortunately led to sepsis and the whole process has taken more than 2 years of wound care to get her wound to finally close. The nurses and Doctor in the wound care center has gone above and beyond in their care and patience and I cannot speak highly enough of the top notch care my mother has always recieved.

The worst hospital I’ve ever been to. The nurses are lazy, the doctors are clueless, & it’s not a good experience being there at all. Don’t go to the ER because they won’t take good care of you. I was never a patient here at Weiss but had relatives there & it was very stressful because they don’t care fire patients like they should. A lot have to change here like attitudes & providing better care for the people that is less fortunate than others. Quality over quantity.

I had a flare up of a chronic condition and waited for hours in the ER of another hospital...eventually decided to leave and come here. With pleasant surprise I was greeted in the waiting room right away, taken to a room and started treatment. The doctor (Dr. Shu) treated me with warm respect and explained the medications. The nurses (Tina and others) checked on me a few times and made sure all my questions were answered. Great service!

Went to ER with severe abdominal pain They quickly eased the pain and found the cause. Surgery to remove gallbladder went well. Dr Summer did a great job as did the entire Operating Staff. Don't go here if you can avoid it. I showed up around 10pm to the ER and there wasn't a soul around. Extremely confused by such a bizarre situation I used the phone at the "front desk" and was told whomever was busy and someone would be out shortly. After 30 minutes I left as no one ever showed up.

Provided God awful "care", staff was chatting and didn't communicate with each other, waited for hours to find out relevant personnel wasn't even notified we were there. Literally just a covid PCR test and somehow ended up billing our insurance thousands of dollars. Then they had the audacity to try to bill us again saying they don't have our insurance information. DO NOT COME HERE.

Horrible. Do not go here. Asked for water and they told me to find it myself. My nurse tried to send me out of the ER with no ankle brace and no crutches even though the doctor told him to do so, he literally told me he couldn't find it. Also receptionist is mean and they will not prioritize you by severity level. Instead of helping patients we saw the same nurse that told me to get my own water (my foot was broke)go back and forth to the vending machine at least 4 times. Still sitting without a brace and no meds.

I've had several loved ones in and out of this hospital over the years. I don't usually write reviews, but I'm writing this one because I think this hospital is underrated. I've found the staff to be very helpful when I am there in person. The security people keep this hospital safe, the nurses are kind, and the doctors are informative. Calling in for information is a different story - I rarely get the information I need on the first call. I'm told to call back later or that a nurse will call me back but doesn't.

The ER is terribly maintained. Don’t have enough actual rooms so some patients are placed in chairs alongside the wall. Also the staff discusses other patient health information out loud so we were able to hear a lot of details regarding other patients- not sure if that violates hippa but we definitely heard things that we wish we didn’t.

I had surgery at Weiss at the end of 2021, and while no one wants to have surgery, the staff at Weiss made it as pleasant of an experience as possible. Gotta agree with the bad reviews on here. This is not one of the better hospitals in Chicago area. Staff aren't great, they will send you bills when they shouldn't and waste your time because they don't know how to code things properly. Also what large hospital doesn't have a patient portal so that you can login and get access to your own medical records? Instead you have to go there or fax over paperwork and wait for them to release your own records to you. What a hassle. Numerous better hospitals and specialty clinics out there.

I came to this place for IOP group therapy over zoom and was impressed with their team. They gave me a host of different coping mechanisms to help me move on from my mental health crisis. Weird experience with the reception. My dad was in ICU at the time. I called to check on him and it was New Years day. Thr lady said " Weiss memorial. Happy New Year" I said may I have the ICU please? Long pause then a snarky voice says " I SAID happy new year" Clearly not everyone is having a happy new year and to be insulted i didn't even think of it when a family member is in ICU was extremely childish.

Understanding personally that this can be a highly stressful environment there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for the level of unprofessionalism that I encountered while waiting with someone. As a medical translator, I know exactly how overwhelming things can get. But if you make an already emotional situation even more difficult, then you shouldn't be working with patients or thier families. Being a douche and creating added unnecessary stress because you had a bad day can be detrimental. Winston shouldn't be here, or permitted to act with such childish behavior and have such a nasty attitude when professionalism and compassion are so important and needful for every individual who comes through the doors. He was immature and very unprofessional during 2 separate exchanges and before even allowing a word to be said in the first situation was hateful and dismissive without cause. When it was brought to a co-worker' attention politely being asked for his name, he decided shoving his name tag and being rude and obnoxious yet again was the correct response. Unfortunate how one nasty person can impact future decisions when selecting a hospital for myself or for clients, friends and family. What's even more disturbing is that the nurse supervisor only made excuses for his offensive behavior and acted as if this was perfectly acceptable despite the attempt to avoid further issues was made by speaking in a low tone in Spanish, he threw himself into the conversation and proceeded to get ugly and continue with his offensive behavior without provocation. Needless to say I will NOT be recommending this hospital for myself, my family or any future patients I have for thier medical issues. I hope that no one will cross paths with him and have a more negative impact with more serious consequences. He should be fired! Or in the very least, made to take classes on the correct way to do his job.

Great doctors, but the facility is a mess and calling them regarding any kind of billing or clarification is dreadful. Many numbers on the site or in their own phone directories are disconnected. Asking questions about surgery prep and where to go was also frustrating during the pandemic due the issue above. Good luck ever calling these folks. Edit: rep called me and they were able to address my concerns.

Weiss is excellent in many ways, with many dedicated professionals. In the past couple of years I was a patient there. I observed many areas where improvements could be made. For all patients, I especially hope this is done for the greater community.

My 88 year old mother took a fall and was taken to Weiss Hospital. My expectations were low because of the location of the hospital. It was the best experience I have ever had with a hospital. The communication with every team of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, caseworkers, etc was so quick and efficient. Every test, scan, etc was done immediately (no waiting) and the results were reported back quickly via a direct phone call to me. The staff is friendly, kind, and supportive. The hospital is clean and orderly. Being a University of Chicago teaching hospital means there is a lot of support staff. The hospital is not over crowded at all. My mother’s stay at Weiss Hospital was a 10 out of 10. I commend the hospital for their standard of excellence.

My dad was admitted to the ER and then to the third floor. He is unable to talk or move. The staff seemed to be avoiding patients. I was in the room with my dad for four hours and the nurses rarely checked on him. I pressed the nurse button several times, but it took about 25 minutes for someone to come in. I finally walked out of the room and looked around. A few nurses saw me and I pressed the button again. Then they came in. When I asked the nurses questions, they seemed like they didn't want to be there. My questions about my dad were disregarded and unanswered. A male nurse said he would get back to me, but it's been four hours and I still haven't heard from him. The staff is super rude when I ask simple questions, like how many visitors are allowed in the room. One guy just said, "I don't know, ask the nurses." This is a terrible experience. The staff seems like they don't want to work.
