No L&D nurses of color. Nurses intimidated me every chance they got about all of my choices. I was forced to push on my back. Water or electricity didn’t work in my room and they took hours to give me another room. Forced me to let a new nurse in my room to watch, told me they were “a learning hospital” and tried to pressure me to let the new nurse practice on me. Once we got a working room, it was clean. They didn’t say anything about my aromatherapy methods or me drinking fruit & vegetable juice, probably because they saw I was “combative” already. Nurses called my OB and complained about me. I Verbalized I Didn’t want to push on my back more than once and was forced to, verbalized I wanted to delay cord cutting and was persuaded to cut the cord after not even five minutes. They wouldn’t test me for COVID but had me on restrictions and would not allow my child’s father in the room to see his child. Terrible experience as a woman of color but of course I expected that. Would not come here again to give birth. Would rather do it at home.

Just had my third kid in this hospital few days ago, very bad experience. Came after my water bag broke. Arrived 3.5 hours before my baby was born. First be sent home because they didn’t take it seriously. Glad that I didn’t listen, because I already started to feel contractions and had some bleeding. I would labored my baby at home or on the way to hospital if I went home. But end up my labored experience not that much better. because I pushed my baby out in a room at the first floor (triage) without any nurse or doctor there. I keep called triage nurses during my painful contractions time but no one come by me. When nurses came, my baby already out. Super disappointed. 2020 I had my second child there, I was happy for what they did. This time, No. I will not come back or recommend to anyone I know if I am asked.

Nice hospital but the visitation rules are totally ridiculous. No more than 2 people visiting a new mother and baby at a time and one of them is counting the father? Are you serious? So the parents of the mother or father can't be in the room at the same time! Someone needs to wake up and change these ridiculous restrictions. There is no basis in science whatsoever for this. Just makes the visitors mad and mother wishing she could have her mother, father and husband visiting at the same time. Future mothers be forewarned! We parents (2) were in the room with our daughter and new grandson. They LOCKED THE FATHER out in the hallway so he could not get in. Seriously, the front desk lady on the floor, who was totally unfriendly, locked the door remotely as he approached the door to go back in to see his son. She knew who he was, but it didn't matter. They desperately need customer service training. He was rightfully upset and made what should have been a wonderful experience, a frustrating day or 2. She could have easily called the nurses station to have a nurse come talk to the father, ask one of us to leave the room to allow him back to his new family. They wouldn't even let us in the waiting room on the floor! We had to go downstairs to the waiting room like that would somehow be safer? We couldn't wait to get out of there so we could visit as a family. You want to see our Covid vaccinations? Want to take our temperature? Negative test that day? No problem. Do something other than lock doors and be totally obnoxious and unfriendly. Very disappointing for what seemed to otherwise be a nice hospital. (August 7, 8 & 9, 2022)

I had an appointment for an ultrasound. I spoke to not one but two people prior to my appointment. I spent nearly an hour on public transit with a small child to get there and arrived 15 minutes before my time only to be turned away by security for bringing my child who is supposedly not allowed to come to the appointment. This was never mentioned when I scheduled or confirmed. I also had an appointment at northwestern a mere week or so ago with my child, no issues. No supervisor will call me back, no one will take responsibility. Never coming back, not like they care. It’s a large institution that can afford to treat people this way.

I literally had the best doctors, nurses and medical staff during and after my labor! They were kind, patient and very thoughtful towards me especially being a first time mom . I’ll always recommend this organization to any and everyone! We need more hospitals like Northwestern Medicine Prentice!

Competent and caring doctors and nurses who love what they do - and a nice view too. Thanks for helping our family bring a new child to this world! We have been on an extended stay in both antepartum and now NICU, and are grateful for the visitor restrictions. Our family finds the policies to be most appropriate and necessary in order to facilitate a peaceful environment for patient recovery. The many complaining Karen reviews illustrate how important it is to patients and nurses that visitation is tightly controlled.

Do NOT have your baby here. Triage nurses used a broken vial to take a COVID test and came back 3 hours later to retest even though they knew immediately after it happened and gave me really snappy attitude when I called them out while in labor. They botched my epidural and I was paralyzed waist down with spinal headaches for two weeks straight afterwards. They failed to tell me that they screwed up and the anesthesiologist was barely out of medical school. They administered narcotics without my consent which is a legal landline and they pushed pitocin. I was extremely traumatized by the experience. RUN, don’t walk.

This is my 3rd child but first delivery at NW, after reading the reviews I pray that I can make it to a different hospital when I go into labor. The reason for me checking the reviews is because the level of service I received at my ultrasound was sub par at best. The lady lacked personality it was as if she didn’t want to be there or she didn’t want me to be there, nonetheless we were in and out within 15 min with no information about our new baby but how much he weighed. This prompted me to call someone to complain then I came across the reviews with all of the horror stories now I am scrambling to find a new hospital to deliver my baby

I could not recommend this hospital more! I had the best experience here, from the moment I stepped into triage, to L&D, thru the postpartum unit. Ever single person we encountered and that helped my husband and I through the uncertainty of childbirth (our first) was incredibly sweet, empathetic, and knowledgeable. I can’t remember the incredible nurses that worked with us in triage but the ones in L&D and postpartum really stuck out since we were with them the longest: Mia was our first nurse in L&D, and then Annie and Marissa. When we moved to the postpartum floor, Ann, Christina, Bre, Sandra and Mary were all super attentive and helpful in transitioning my husband and I into parenthood! We didn’t want to leave! My ob, Dr. Dawn McGee, happened to be delivering at the hospital that day so it was icing on the cake! I would recommend this hospital to anyone and everyone.

My wife and I just delivered our baby girl here and everything has been wonderful. All of the nurses are extremely kind. They not only met our needs, but they anticipated what we needed and provided excellent service. They really cared and kept us from panicking when things weren’t going to plan. A huge shout out to Alexa, Elisa, Julia, and the two Maggies (I’m sorry if we missed anyone). Maggie in Labor/Delivery made the best bow for our little one and Maggie in Postpartum took care of everything we needed while we rested. The doctors, midwives, and anesthesiologists were also rockstars. They were thorough and very transparent and informative from start to finish. Everyone was incredibly professional during our stay. A huge thank you to Dr. Auger for bringing us home after a close to 24 hour labor. My only areas of improvement are very small ones. The hospital provides dry wipes in the postpartum recovery room for changing the baby. Upgrading to wet wipes would be a game changer. It was nothing to go and run a little water on them as there are two sinks in the room, the the wet ones would’ve made it more convenient. My only other suggestion would be to have reclining chairs in every room for the support person. Other than those small areas, everything was perfect. Thank you all for your help. I would rate this place 10 stars if I could!

Everyone was so patient and accommodating, especially Michelle. Michelle and Terese helped me feel more comfortable and give me snacks. I had to come back because I was having issue but Michelle was very understanding and she told me what I need to do better to prepare for the imaging. She rescheduled me and came in early a few days later to do my imaging for me. Never received this type of treatment before. I appreciate all the ladies on the 5th floor.

This review is specific to having major difficulties scheduling 39-week induction for my pregnancy. I have not delivered at this hospital yet - can update the review once this happens. Due to certain reasons and higher risk pregnancy, I felt pretty strongly about the 39-week induction. I have been discussing this option with my OB beginning week 34. During the discussions, it never appeared that this would be a problem. Well, I am at week 38 and 5 days now, and only got informed today that the 39-week induction is not guaranteed and that I have been placed on some type of rolling waiting list until the hospital gets a labor-delivery bed. And this process can last until week 41 unless I go into active labor. My OB clinic states that the hospital provides only lottery spots to patients - I do not even know what this means. So at this point, I am beyond stressed and anxious - I don't really like knowing that my access to healthcare and labor/delivery is based on some type of lottery. So if you are looking for a hospital that would work with you to schedule a 39-week induction, I do not recommend this hospital as it seems that the hospital is overcrowded and does not have the capacity to meet the needs of all pregnant patients. So if we want to know why the US has the highest maternity and infant mortality in the developed world, this is a perfect example of it. I am not sure when I will get my induction date, whether this will happen before week 41, and what will be consequences to my and my baby's health. Who is responsible if down the line if an emergency happens to me and my baby because the induction was not scheduled in a timely manner? But by the way, Northwestern hospital still made sure to call me and get a $500 deposit for my "upcoming" delivery despite not having the room or event date for my induction.

First off when I tried calling and explaining why i wanted to be transfered to L&D I got hung up on by a bunch of women with nasty attitudes. I made 4 attempts and got hung up on each time until i decided to just go up there. Now i don't like the parking. My husband decided he would just stay in the car because parking was just so expensive and very difficult to find a parking spot. I don't like the way this hospital operates, don't take advantage of a pregnant woman when shes alone by herself asking questions that has nothing to do with the care of baby. I don't like how the main focus for black women is housing situations and are they getting along with their spouses? Why is this even a concern!!? Your main concern as nurses and doctors should be to provide the patient with the best care possible. I came in for something serious that they refused to look further into and instead insisted that i take medication. When I told the doctor I use medicine as a last resort and would prefer natural home remedies she became upset and put this in my chart as a question mark. You cannot force medication amongst a pregnant patient or any patient that prefers not to take it. What are yall doing? This hospital should not be labeled as #1 these doctors here are not top notch. They focus in too much on Medications and the personal lives of black women just so they can take their babies away instead of looking into the health. I will not be giving birth here I did not like my first experience.

I have had all of my children here (3) and have had all great experiences. I have always been treated well. The nurses were always nice and took care of my child and myself well. The view was great. Rooms were always nice and spacious. The food is amazing! It’s like a hotel for expectant mothers.

I really loved nurses Rachel R who was in my caesarean delivery floor 8, she was so kind, I was in a very stressed out state and she was there to sooth it. I really appreciated it. Nurse Veronica Michels she helped me out to breastfeed the baby when he had a hard time latching. She was very knowledgeable and professional. And right after her night shift came Anja, unfortunately I didn’t ask her last name but she was FANTASTIC! She helped us with feeding the baby and taught me how to use the breast pump so we could feed my baby through the bottle, since he still had a hard time latching. She was very attentive to our needs. These amazing nurses made my labor experience go smoother and easier, they provided support I and my baby needed. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My husband Salman and I were blown away with the care we received at Prentice Womens hospital, specifically the nurses Abby Cooper, Claire White, Eleanor Lyman, and the OB Dr Anjali Metha. Their ability to build rapport and make me feel comfortable in something that was emotionally and physically uncomfortable is a skill that deserves to be highlighted! Given it being our first birth, my husband and I were naturally nervous and excited, but were constantly given adequate attention and information about the whole process, we essentially felt like celebrities! We were at such peace knowing I was in good hands, and most importantly my baby was too. I feel so grateful to have given birth at Prentice and plan to do it all over again whenever we have our second child! 10/10 recommend! -Mallory Welsh Khan

So there's a person answers the phone on the weekend just to tell you the offices are closed on the weekend. Maybe I'm just trying to make an appointment like how every other medical office operates. But apparently that's all she's there for. Thanks for all your help

Wow! I treated so poorly by the tech who does mammograms she scolded me because I needed an ultrasound instead of a mammogram. I almost wanted to cry because of the way she spoke to me. Jessica the helped me but she was also mean. 1/11/23 at 2:40pm They showed no compassion towards me

Couldn’t have been more pleased with the care received as my husband and I welcomed our daughter to our family. Even with all of the curveballs of our labor and delivery, the team was wonderful to work with every step of the way. We felt really well cared for and appreciated all the staff—medical and not—who made it a positive experience.

So far the medical staff is great but their visitor policies are horrible. As me and my husband are waiting for our daughter to have her baby and to be induced, it’s almost 1:00 am and there’s no waiting rooms. You can wait in the lobby, but you cannot lay on the couch or you get yelled at by the security staff because laying on a couch is against their rules. So we have to sit up to try and sleep in a loud bright lobby. And it’s freezing.. this hospital has no hospitality for the families waiting.

My wife has delivered both of our children at Prentice and each time we were both so impressed by the care and hospitality. You can really tell all of the doctors and nurses love their jobs and truly care for their patients and new babies. Thank you!!

Giving it one star because that was my experience with security. In particular, one who was coughing up a storm and not wearing a mask at the main entrance. Had all of us waiting in line after several minutes of coughing! My daughter was in labor and I wanted to go upstairs and wait (8th fl), she did not even ask for the name and told us "everyone who should be up there is already there"...no one was up there but the father to be who was in the delivery room. Very rude, unfriendly, and arrogant! I would never go for any service, so many choices! I eventually was allowed upstairs in the waiting room, and only a few other people were there. The room was almost empty! Management needs to do more on this issue, so many bad reviews on this!

My wife and I got transferred here for a suburban hospital and lived here for 1.5 months and then did the NICU for an additional 70 days. The doctors and nurses are 2nd to none. Couldn’t have asked for a better hospital to be at all things considered

Mostly nice staff. But Prentice is next to a concert venue. Good luck getting a newborn to sleep (or sleep yourself) as the incredibly loud music shakes the room. Would have reconsidered delivering here if we knew this before hand. Didn’t think about researching concert venues when looking for a hospital

I would say not worth the hype. Someone has to review these restrictions on allowing kids to the hospitals. Lots of restrictions has been relaxed after 2 years of COVID, then why not this? Otherwise overall ok ok, not great. post discharge support needed for the patients till they healed properly. You can't treat them as out-patients. Some staff really go above and beyond to help patients and I wish they should get paid doubled for their outstanding service than the others. If patients are not happy after discharge and are suffering, what are the doctors proud of?

I’m relocating to North Carolina and I want to cry when I think about having to find a new hospital. I absolutely love Northwestern! I gave birth to my first son 9 days ago and the entire experience from the appointments to the delivery was amazing! Dr. McNair was my doctor and she explained everything so throughly. She explained that I would be meeting with the other doctors for appointments too, just in case she wasn’t on shift to deliver when I was due. This was helpful because Dr. McNair wasn’t on the schedule to do deliveries, but I knew the other doctors because I had met with them during other appointments so I felt comfortable. My delivery was actually done by a midwife and she was amazing. Initially, I was terrified, but after taking the classes and understanding what would be happening, I felt better. Well, they exceeded my expectations! The entire experience was beautiful. They made sure I was comfortable and everyone was so knowledgeable. I am forever grateful for Northwestern.

I love my Dr. At Northwestern, but had a terrible pre-op experience yet again. Their biggest problems: NURSES. Anne H. A nurse on the 6th floor surgical floor has to be the rudest, most unprofessional and most bizarre I have ever encountered in a medical facility. Please look for Anne H. On 6th floor surgery floor of Prentice. If you see her, make sure you cackle in her face like she did the other patients waiting to go back for hysterectomies and procedures. Loud and obnoxious. She was combative and with an ugly personality. Prentice can do better.. I would watch out for Anne H. The heckling nurse who works with sick women. Not all nurses where capes and this one does not. Northwestern you can do better. Get Anne H. Off your womens a surgical floor.

This past Wednesday, April 28 of 2021. I had received the best care by dr waters and her whole team. I went in with my mind set on getting my tubal ligation done. Not knowing what I was going to feel like after. I must say the staff was right on point with the word for word walk through of what steps they where going to take and what my recovery was going to look like. I am so glade dr waters and her staff was right on. Thank you so much for the wonderful care while I was in the hospital and also the calls after I highly recommend Dr. Waters entire team. The best thank you

I had a tubal ligation done here, and during the morning I spent at the hospital, I swear, every doctor, nurse, tech, and cleaner that came into my vicinity seemed truly happy to be there. Choruses of laughter from the nurse's station is a really good thing to hear, you get the best work done by people who love their jobs. I've never had the pleasure of rating a hospital 5 stars, but here we go!
