I've been a patient for over 7 yrs. The facility is very clean and the staff is amazing. Since at stony brook I regained custody of my daughter and have held the same full-time job for 6.5 yrs.I am now married and live on my own . They have given me the tools to live sober and how to move forward from my 12 yrs addiction to heroin. The cameras in the bathroom is nothing compared to what I did in my addiction. I rather have a camera than a person stand in there. The cost is alot less than I'd pay for my habit as soon as I got insured I was approved in 72 hrs. EDIT:: Since the pandemic my counselor has done an amazing job making sure I know I can always reach out at anytime to have a quick session via phone or zoom. Its reassuring to know I have ppl who keep my mental health in mind now more than ever

My partner has been on and off methadone the whole time I have been with him and this is by far the best and most professional clinic he has been to. The staff is kind and really invested in the treatment and well-being of their patients. When I first met the owner, I did not think she owned the clinic because she was so down to earth and friendly. She really made me feel welcome. Some of my favorite people there include Chani, the receptionist, who remembered my name after the first time I came there. Charlie sometimes works the desk too and he is very professional and he seems to get my weird sense of humor :P Cindy is a nurse there and you can tell she and the other nurses are really dedicated to what they do. They put their hearts into it. Joan is a counselor there and she has taken extra time out of her schedule to see us as a couple and to give us tips to improve our life together and move forward. Some clinics seem like places that just medicate you. This one treats your body, your mind, and your spirit!

Sadly this is not a bad clinic. I mean it is a bad clinic in practice. They donā€™t care about the individual clients, they repeatedly govern based on stigma, and still use the threat of taking meds away (Inflicting physical pain) . Hereā€™s a story I witnessed first hand. A client had suffered with intestinal pain for several decades. The clientā€™s closest family member died early in life because of complications related to these problems. Thanks to methadone and harm reduction the client had enough stability in life to address these health concerns. The doctor the client saw outside the clinic recommended buying a 64 oz water bottle and drinking it every day. it worked! For the first time ever there was no daily 45 minutes of morning nausea, no stomach pains, no more laxatives, better appetite and several other benefits. This doctorā€™s simple recommendation changed the clientā€™s life. This client had achieved the status of going one time per month to get meds. On the next visit she informed the nurse of her doctorā€™s plan. The client was worried About being accused of diluting the urine sample. The staff assured the client that this would not be a problem. What reasonable people! On the next visit to the clinic the client was told the sample was diluted. The client again explained the situation and asked if perhaps they could pause her doctorā€™s orders on water and come back later to provide a less diluted sample. (Also worth noting the client gives 12 urine samples or more per year so is well clear of the 8 required by law). The staff assured the client it was fine and declined to do what the client suggested. The client was worried because they know this clinic, they knew that promises mean nothing when it comes down to it. And I know this too. Iā€™ve seen them crush this and other clients despite the clientā€™s best efforts again and again. (To be fair the clinic was at one time into best practices and supporting their clients but those ideals have all but been abandoned). I mention this only to emphasize that the client was doing everything they could to do the clinicā€™s job for them. The client solved the problem In a way that no one could object to and they said no. Just because. Most places in the world this would be enough to cover your self, but not at the methadone clinic. They called the client to tell them they were taking away their take homeā€™s for ā€œsafetyā€ because... her urine sample was diluted. Can you imagine the frustration?!? Because certainly you think ā€œexplain the situation. Any living creature with a brain would certainly not be okay with this situation.ā€ But not at this methadone clinic. The client argued and begged but resin meant nothing. No one cared. No one could even be bothered to just think this through. Do you know the cost of losing take homes? Youā€™ve now lost your child care, youā€™ve lost wages, youā€™ve messed up the balance you had in your life with the people who raise your children. These are things that put you at much greater risk of returning to Chaotic use. But they donā€™t care. Thatā€™s not what theyā€™re here for. Itā€™s not even anger anymore. When can we, the patients of MAT have our lives back? How many punishments do we have to endure? How many evil or stupid people do we have to have in ur lives and for how long? Do you know what itā€™s like to live your life based on the whims of some methadone clinic employee?!? they have complete control over your body and life, and this is the level of engagement we get. It makes me want to vomit. Obviously if youā€™re going here itā€™s because you have too. You didnā€™t choose too. So lower your expectations as far as you can and hold your nose and be ready to be treated like less than human! They know what theyā€™re doing and donā€™t care. Thatā€™s the sick part. These people are absolutely toxic. The only rule is what feels like it should be the rule. And legally theyā€™re totally protected. Methadone clinics are designed to be run by scam artists and sadists. This one does not disappoint!

I was patient number 1 at this clinic, literally the first to sign-up. Not proud to say Iā€™ve been on methadone for 25 years but proud to say Iā€™ve worked the system the right way. I started attending the clinic when I was the only patient, They have always treated me with the upmost respect. There are things Iā€™m not happy with, such as the need to switch from an HMO to a PPO because they no longer accept cash patients. Yes, I save $150 per month at the clinic but the switch to the PPO is costing me an additional $500 per month because I had to switch my entire family. That being said, they handled this with the upmost respect and gave me ample time to make a change. Now, as far as the program is concerned you will not find a better one. If you work the program like you were supposed to, show up when youā€™re supposed to, give clean urines like youā€™re supposed to, and go to your counselor meetings you will have no problems. Those people that have problems are the ones that come in and say ā€œI just Peed an hour ago, I canā€™t give you a urine drop right now and Iā€™m late for workā€. These are the ones that are coming to the clinic for a legal high and arenā€™t ready to commit to working the program. Although I seldom wait to dose, DONā€™T show up in a rush. Wake-up 15 minutes sooner and be prepared to wait if needed because their is nothing more annoying than someone in a rush at a clinic. The ONLY time I was in a rush is when my wife was about an hour from pushing on the day of my daughters birth and I had to run to a clinic to dose before they closed. ALL the patients let me cut to the front of the line. That was 11 years ago and I havenā€™t shown up in a rush since! Itā€™s clean, professional and it feels like Iā€™m walking into a dentists office. Itā€™s not full of riff-raff. Just do what you are suppose to and they will give you the finest treatment that you will ever find.

Best staff I have ever seen or heard of at a methadone clinic, these people actully care about there patients. If you can make it to stoneybook it's where you should go. The staff treats patients like real people and not numbers which is so common with methadone clinics. The nurse I've delt with Cindy and Jenny are rock stars I'm a tough industry. As far as reception goes the women who is at the desk most days is a delight and anyone else who works it from time to time seem perfectly capable in doing there jobs. Counselors well I will say that I personally know 3 counselors and they all rock! I haven't seen high turn over but I sure at times there is because methadone counselors have a huge burn out rate I'm sure. All I can say is that no body hires this many good people on accident.

This place has changed my life. The nurses truly care about me and my well being. Chany has remembered my name since day 1 and treats me like a person, not just a patient. My counselor, Alyssa, believes in me and helps me work through those things that have kept me using over all these years I've been trying to get clean. This clinic isn't about numbers and getting people in and out. This clinic is about each individual person that seeks help there, their individual needs, and providing the tools specific to each person's needs to help each one of us stay clean and change our lives! Thank you, Stonybrook!

I was gonna leave a very detailed negative experience but I think you knowing that going they three counselors four doctors and three sets of nurses is clue enough. I will say that one counselor at this place is like robin Williams character in good will hunting. He used to lead IOP groups that were the best Iā€™ve ever been to. I actually looked forward to going. Iā€™ll take that back I loved going. Itā€™s sad he isnā€™t running that place I feel things would be healthier there.( you wouldnā€™t be able to test positive for opiates for two years without any repercussions). So ya my time here was full of unknowns and people generally not knowing what was going on. Oh and the occasional guy trying to buy my methadone from me.

It took me over a year to finally get to the dose I needed to be. For a while I was still using because of the dose but wouldn't get to go up because of the using. The Dr. Finally stepped in and raised it to where I wanted to be. Dr. Neeb has been Great. Nurses are great as well, better if your doing what your supposed to be. I think the owner is all about profits. Who goes by cookie? That's something I'd hear using lol

Every single Methadone clinic should model itā€™s approach to patient respect after Stonybrook Center. The people Iā€™ve interacted with who work there have each gone out of their way to be sensitive and caring towards myself and other patients Iā€™ve spoken with. The important thing is, if you follow the SIMPLE rules laid out for patients and have a real desire to get out from underneath all the pressure and stress of an opiate addiction then this is a really good place to turn. You have to be ready for a change tho

I have been a consistent patient at Stoneybrook for the past 15 months. They take all kinds of Medicaid/State Insurance. I have Aetna and there's been no problems. Intake is a pain, lots of paperwork and meetings with different staff members...takes about 3-4 hours. Everyone starts at 30mg and you can increase by 10mgs every third day. It took me about 4 weeks to get to my preferred daily dose of 90mg. In the beginning you have to go to the clinic 6 days a week with a Sunday take home until you drop clean 4 times in a row....drug tests are randomly selected twice a month. So you just have to have the strength to make it through the first 2-3 months before you get in a steady routine. After 4 clean drops you only have to go three times a week and if you keep staying clean you can eventually go just twice a month and get 14 carries a t a time! The counselors change pretty often, I've had 3 in the past year and a half and didn't like any of them but its close to me and they do want to see people get better.
