The gym is okay and employees are nice for the most part but this gym is absolutely not worth the price. Amenities are extra with no pool, basketball court, racquetball court etc. You're paying almost $200 a month for just the gym floor and machines. Not to mention when you first sign up you'll get hounded by trainers to sign up for their personal fitness classes. I found this to be incredibly annoying. Often awkwardly waiting for you to finish a set to talk to you about becoming a client of theirs. Overall my experience with the other employees was positive I just don't feel the price makes any sense for what you get. Especially compared to other gyms in the area. I personally signed up out of convenience due to the location. If you're planning on driving here or are close to any other gyms I would pick them over Equinox if I were you. Also the app sucks and I hated having to check in with it every time.

Not worthy of the Equinox brand name. Staff are nice, management is lousy as noted in other reviews. The gym itself is the same as any other, just with eucalyptus towels and good showers. My experience: I put a clause in my contract to be on a 3-month paid-trial as I did not want to commit to 12 months. Sales was happy to add that. Management did not honor it when I decided I wanted to leave and it's taken me over a month to get this resolved... It's still not resolved.

Great place, thought the 3 stories would be an issue but I've really enjoyed my workout.. would certainly recommend the staff is super friendly and helpful..

Great classes, especially the yoga classes. The facility is very nice and staff are all friendly. If I could just review the facility and staff, this review would receive 5 stars. However, there's a trend in the reviews about the bad management and cancellation policies and I absolutely agree. I had to cancel my membership due to a move but the process was like pulling teeth. I had to provide proof of address change and apparently a letter with new address is enough but a new building welcome letter and a page from my lease weren't enough. I had to show a *signed* lease and the whole back and forth process over email took over 2 weeks. Advice to management: outline your policies *clearly*. This whole experience made me feel like I was forging my move.

A home away from home the past five years or so. Front desk team is warm and personable. Travis Diamond and Ron Israel are word class personal trainers. Jim Jalove (group classes) has a cult following and an extraordinary team, highlighted by Devin Buchanan and Shana Peters, et Al.

The coaches seem pretty rude- I asked one coach quickly for advice on pull-ups and he seemed like he couldn’t wait to get away from me it seemed (had glasses on) and then another coach (idk names but he had a hate on lol) I was cleaning a machine after using it and out of no where he rudely asked “are you done??” and then And just kept eye balling me it was odd. I had to tell him a second time he came around the area “I’m wiping the machine down sir…”. Good thing this was my last time here-ALL the people in the front (front desk and smoothie shop) are very nice though- nice facility all and all but I know if I were to come I would ONLY focus on individual workouts

Great club but their locker rooms and workout areas are too small for the number of members they've signed up post covid. Will probably switch to a cheaper option soon if they keep adding new members at the expense of their current members' comfort.

I've had the pleasure of working with Dave W. as my fitness trainer, and I can't recommend him highly enough. From the outset, Dave demonstrated an incredible depth of knowledge in both fitness programming and nutrition, setting him apart as a true expert in his field. His approach is personalized, insightful, and always focused on my individual goals and needs. Dave's programs are not just effective; they are also engaging and sustainable. He has a remarkable ability to push you to your limits while ensuring that you're motivated and excited about your fitness journey. His expertise in nutrition has been transformative for me, providing not just a diet plan but a complete lifestyle change that is realistic and tailored to my personal preferences. What really sets Dave apart is his genuine care for his clients. He goes above and beyond to support, encourage, and inspire. His passion for fitness and nutrition is contagious, and it's clear that he truly wants to see his clients succeed. Thanks to Dave, I've achieved goals I never thought possible, and I've gained a wealth of knowledge that will benefit me for a lifetime. If you're looking for a trainer who will truly make a difference in your fitness journey, look no further than Dave W. He's not just a trainer; he's a game-changer in the truest sense. Five stars simply aren't enough to capture the positive impact he's had on my life. Thank you, Dave, for everything!

When I enrolled at Equinox, they told me I could cancel it at any time but when I tried it they said I’d need to stay for 12 months unless I showed them some proof that I was moving to another neighborhood. Not an honest company.

Love the gym and its facilities. With that said, I was misled when I needed to cancel my membership and was charged a monthly membership fee, which the gym then refused to refund. Given the high costs associated with this gym you would think they would not nickle and dime you at every turn, but that was my experience when trying to cancel my membership. I would recommend trying another gym given the poor customer service I experienced.

I just joined and this was my favorite location but they recently updated their hours to close at 8 which makes it impossible to get a good workout. They said it was because less people are going due to COVID, but now less people will go as they decreased the hours. For how much they charge I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore. The staff is wonderful though!

Only one platform for deadlifting and Olympic lifts which is constantly taken up by unrelated circuit workouts. Please get more platforms and squat racks given the expansive floor space.

$250 a month. Apparently the problems in NYC are now nationwide. Drove an hour from the Burbs and no hot water. But you can be sure they will raise my monthly next year to justify all the “improvements”.

As a personal trainer, I’m always scoping gyms for potential new clients. So I tried this one out and was turned off completely by the amount of other personal trainers in the gym being so invasive and essentially, annoying to gym goers. Aside dole that- way too overpriced for what’s offered. Not for me

Way too much money for what you get. Cardio equipment is constantly broke. For the money you spend it should be newer. I spent most of my time reporting broken equipment. It was such a pain. Management is terrible here and they really don't care about the customer. They only care about signing members and keeping the money rolling in. A complete disconnect, especially the General Managers annoying form emails that are cold and automated. He probably never even reads them or knows there being sent out. In 13 months this location also went through 4 General Managers which probably led to all the inconsistency. If I could do it over I would have never joined this club and spent my money on something else. In fact, I felt ripped off by Equinox for what I got in return. On a side note the staff is really nice and work really hard. The trainers, front desk, kids club & locker room attendants are wonderful. If I could write them a separate review I'd give them 5 stars.

Very Racist Place. I worked there as a demo associate for the Body Energy Club and the front desk manager and staff didn’t like me. They would give me the side eye, they would whisper and gossip about me in a negative way! They treated me like I was a criminal because I’m black. I was there to do my job and not to cause any problems. I quit my job because I couldn’t no longer take being Racially Profiled. Very Racist!

Fancy pancy nice gym with free validated parking across the street in the history museum lot. They have tons of equipment, unique group fitness classes including TRX and yoga variations and the best...a cool lavender towel when you finish. They also have a juicy juice on the first floor, a spa and other amenities. This location is close to Lincoln Park zoo and the lake.

One of the most negative experiences I’ve ever had in customer service. My car got a flat on lake shore drive and I pulled off the road across from this business. I walked in and asked the barista at the juice bar if I could use the washroom. He obliged and directed me to walk past the desk and it would be on my right. He was clear I was not a member. As I walked past the desk, a desk agent (Perry) yelled at me and asked me for my name. He then took me to task for walking past him. He was unnecessarily upset and escalated a simple situation. He postured, but eventually allowed me to use the bathroom. As a customer service professional myself, I found this encounter unacceptable. I manage a hotel and often satisfy requests of non-guests, such as bathroom usage. I understand policy and how things work. I would have preferred the establishment to simply say no, rather than be accosted for needing to use the washroom under duress. I will never enter their club again (refreshing for them I’m sure) and I will discourage my family and friends from renewing their memberships.

I went to equinox to sign up for a membership. Jenny, the sales rep who gave me a tour, emailed me the membership agreement. After reading the cancellation policy,I decided not to join. I sent her a email a few hours later letting her know that was not going to join. I called three times to make sure that they canceled my "membership ". They didn't canceled. They charged me for the following month even though I reached out to Jenny and another manager prior to the 23. I called their corporate/customer service and was informed that there was no cancellation request for me. Luckily, I had communicated with Jenny via email and was able to forward those emails to the customer service rep. Stay away from Equinox!! There are PLENTY of gyms in Chicago/Lincoln Park. A gym that requires documentation to cancel a membership is SUSPICIOUS. I can't imagine what happens when someone needs to cancel their membership after being a member for months/years/weeks. I got lucky because I EMAILED her the same day that I wasn't interested in being a member. Btw, Jenny lied saying that I knew I was going to be charged and my membership had been cancelled even though someone from their customer service said THERE WAS NO CANCELLATION REQUEST. Stay away!!

Issues with repeated cancellations by trainers. It’s a group or kids running this place. They don’t take it seriously even when they have your money.

I've belonged to many gyms over the years and never have I felt more at home than here. Everyone at Equinox is so welcoming from the staff to the guests. Equinox has hands down the best classes and instructors. Special thanks to Glenn, Julie, Josh, and Devin for their amazing classes that keep me coming back!

I love this location. It’s cozy and has a community feel. Abigail was awesome in making me feel welcome, and Victor is the best trainer out there. He taught me life long exercise skills that I’m forever grateful for!

I have been a member here for many years. I go mainly for the group fitness classes which are fantastic. The instructors are knowledable and lead exciting and interesting classes. Also, everyone is pretty friendly which makes for a great environment to work out in.

Very spacious...beautiful changing rooms for the ladies -- lots of areas. They have nice wood lockers for our jackets and purses, shower area, changing room area, two separate types of sinks -- one to wash your hands while the other for brushing your teeth. They even have a blowdryer. Nice gym equipment. Staff was very enthuastic and pretty helpful. I went for a cycling class -- fun yet you sure get a workout!

Equinox in Lincoln Park offers great classes! Definitely recommend spinning class is really fun there for both guys and ladies. Also, check out Allison Yoga classes, too. Reasonable affordable price. Clean modern and peaceful. Huge locker rooms with plenty space. Parking available free on Canon Drive if you find a space or parking meter on Clark Street.

I was skeptical about switching over to Equinox at first based on its price, but after a trial period of using the gym, I really fell in love with it and ended up switching over from FFC! The classes are better than any gym I've tried with a huge selection, quality instruction, and they fill the classes so there's plenty of energy and enthusiasm! The employees are helpful and friendly. The app has recently been redesigned and is awesome. When you reserve a treadmill or a bike with the app. the workout is automatically uploaded to your account so you can view stats and workout totals! I do wish that this location had a pool and hot tub, it's unfortunate that it doesn't, but if you get the Chicago Pass, the Lincoln Commons location has a pool within walking distance. Overall I'd highly recommend Equinox, especially if you like taking fitness classes!

Don't join this Gym, its not really worth of the money that you spend for membership fees, let alone year membership. This is a filthy club that has soiled & years old towels , uncleaned bathrooms, dirty sauna and uncleaned steam rooms. The sauna never heats up. Lousy management, no response to resolve the issue I brought to them through emails. They charge differently for different people, take your money elsewhere. Its not worth.

  • 2/5 RR 4 years ago on Google
I am a fan of Equinox in other cities and the new Lincoln Common location, however the Lincoln Park location is poorly run ( management and staff don't know what they're doing) and in need of a total makeover. For the fees they charge you're better off joining a local gym for $25 a month because the LPK Equinox location isn't much better.

So happy to be working with my personal trainer and pilates instructor in the past month 3x a week. I honestly feel a huge difference in my energy level and health in general. If you’re looking for a personal trainer, I highly recommend Mercedez and Stefanie for pilates. The staff at the club are so lovely. I stopped by The Shop all the time to buy workout gear and Ellyse is the sweetest. They also have better deals there than the brand retailer themselves including Lululemon, alo, Dagne Dover, etc you name it.

This is my favorite Equinox location in the US. It is never crowded, humble, and has an ice cold shower in the steam room. I have been a member on and off for years, in Chicago and Los Angeles. Although this location is a bit more run down than some of the newer locations, I feel at home here. Lincoln Commons was completely oversold and sucks. Because this location is too far from my current residence, we cancelled our membership. Hope to rejoin in the future if we move closer.
