Do not join this gym!!! I went to tour this gym and got roped into a 3 month contract, which at the time I thought was no big deal especially with the short time frame. It ended up being a terrible decision. The business office, especially Brianna and Annabelle are nightmares to work with. It started when I got a free massage when I joined, I used it within the first month of membership as directed. I ended up being charged $80 to my account for my FREE massage. Once I noticed my account was charged I immediately contacted the business office to get a refund. It took them over a week to look into the situation and then they claimed they just cleared out my other charges on my account with the $80 I was overcharged but refused to provide any back up documentation. Finally after weeks of back and forth and hassle it escalated to a manager and he finally refunded the money I was inaccurately charged. Then about a month later I was offered a job out of state, which I accepted. Per their cancellation policy you are able to cancel membership immediately if moving further than 25 miles with proof of move. So I provided everything I needed and received a confirmation that my membership was canceled. I was then billed the following month (after I had not been able to use the gym over a month). When I reached out again, Annabelle and Brianna were both completely unprofessional and rude and admitted the made an error in the cancellation date, but since part of it was correct claimed I should have known that I was going to be charged another month. Not sure how I would know this given the incorrect date provided to me. Since the date provided to me was inaccurate I did not look into my cancellation any further until after I was charged. I have contacted them multiple times regarding this and they continue to be incompetent and unhelpful. It has now been over a month since this money was taken from my account. If you do join this gym DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR CC INFORMATION. Their business model is based on charging people's accounts inaccurately and it is almost impossible to get the money back. Who knew $99 meant so much to a mega gym, must be having more internal issues. At the very least I would expect the employees, Annabelle and Brianna to act professionally and with respect.

this place sucks, thankfully i only ended up trying it for a workout and not signing a contract. when i arrived after emailing back and forth with one of the employees, I told the worker at the front desk that I was told i could try out the club a few times, he acted like i was lying to him. whole club feels like a snobby catholic high school. I'm 22 with my first job and their young adult rate is $90/month. what a joke. would be a good price if everything was new there

BEWARE OF THE CONTRACT!! The cancellation and fee policy are surprisingly costly and unfair. To cancel a membership, you must notify them 30-60 days before you stop paying for services for the monthly membership, and God forbid you sign a yearly membership. They will not tell you this as you are rushed to sign

If you are looking for a day care center that fronts as a tennis club / work out facility you’ve got it. This place is so greedy, they will take any $$ they can over members satisfaction. The kids are spoiled little brats that run around screaming with no respect for adults. The locker rooms are dirty and outdated. Oh, and they raised the price 10% and said it is a “standard” across the industry. I would highly suggest going elsewhere as I finally had enough and cancelled my membership.

Staff are not professional and sound rude. I called today and spoke with both tennis and membership department. I was inquiring about the price and so on. Jack from the membership department said “what do you want?” He could say how can I help you. The front desk and tennis director didn’t seem friendly either. If this is the way you treated clients who are from another race and ethnicity, then I don’t want your service either.you’re the one who will loose the business because I won’t recommend your service to anyone .

Maybe I'm lucky or used to the more run down loop location, but I enjoyed my time here. I only went because the loop LSF was closed, but everything was decently clean and well laid out. There's nice amenities and the equipment is good, even though there's less of it.

Honestly...don't even bother. I've been a member for awhile and I'm disgusted by their handling of billing during this pandemic. My credit card was charged without my knowledge in July and I received NO communication from the club stating that membership dues would be reinstated. I was able to put my membership on hold for August, filled out the electronic form for September and wouldn't you know it...my card was charged again!! They claim that none of it is their fault. Be careful - this club is known for putting charges on people's accounts and there is NO accountability on their end. The same thing just occured with my girlfriend so I know I'm not alone. Don't bother - Go to Midtown or FFC. They are legit with their billing practices and care about their members as people and not just a form of payment.

I’m a current member and I have to say that the place is ok but nothing different to other places. The equipment is ok but the building needs urgently a modern look and feel change. Something that I really don’t like is the staff, they are not friendly, they are not willing to help.. You need to be really lucky if they said hello or bye, specially the guys in the front desk. I’m still going because it’s literally in front of my house... I don’t have excuses to avoid go to the gym and I don’t like to drive at night after work...

Share review Embed review Write an update Edit review Please note this is about the Lakeshore Fitness Illinois Center location at 211 North Stetson: Hate to post this negative review but LSF IC management has given me no other alternative. I'll gladly write a positive post when they resolve an ongoing issue with refunding me $112 x 2. I canceled my membership in March when it was clear gyms are NOT safe places to be during a pandemic. They (Jarrett Brown specifically) have fought tooth and nail with me over email and phone insisting that I owe them July and August dues. Note that I REsubmitted a cancellation form in July and they still charged me for August, despite me explaining again 1) I canceled in March 2) the email reminders they sent me went to an old email address + they did not call members making them aware of when they were reinstating charges). If you are dealing with similar issues, email: Jason Mahan: [email protected], Jarrett Brown: [email protected], Billing Office: [email protected], and Business Office: [email protected].

I went there hoping to get some information about the prices and conditions of memebership before deciding about joining. But the sales guy made me stay 45+ minutes there, since they refused to give me a quote for the membership price if I don’t do the « full tour » with the sales person. The sales person then proceeded to use the whole snake oil salesman (and even trying to make me feel a bit guilty if I didn’t join) speech on me. It was like a time share selling speech or something. They give you a « free drink » and would use all the shady sales techniques on you. Maybe it works well for some people but I didn’t like the whole process at all and joined another gym with more transparent and straighforward conditions. I hope they change it in the future.

They do not properly enforce their mask-wearing policy. I canceled my membership after playing in a clinic with someone who refused to keep their mask on. I had to leave the clinic for my own protection. I contacted the director of tennis and the membership director immediately and it took the General Manager over 2.5 weeks to get back to me: she tried to give me some "free classes" and they were mainly concerned with keeping their $$$ and my membership. They actually tried to charge me an additional month as I didn't give the "proper notice." As for the member in violation? They did nothing to her but told ME: "I could find another clinic so I didn't have to play with that member." I did. I found a different club to join. Finally, LSF is an old club in desperate need of repair both to the physical building, as well as the integrity in which they operate.

Like others have mentioned, this business is a nightmare to work with. Their business model is based on deceptive billing practices designed to prevent you from canceling your membership and charge you at every instance they can. If you join, either ask about paying in cash on a monthly basis. If you quit, immediately contact your bank and request for a “stop payment order.” I called about cancelling my membership and spoke on the phone to a member of the membership office, Jack Phillips, who assured me that my cancellation would be processed. The very next month, I was still charged and when I inquired about this, LSF denied the conversation despite me providing proof of the call history. Their after the fact response was that the membership office does not handle cancellations, but why was I not told this over the phone? I would not recommend this gym to anyone. It is overpriced for the amenities they provide and is a nightmare to work with. I still have not received the refund after over a week and a half of back and forth with this “business.” They continue to dodge my responses and questions. Horrible business practices

With three floors dedicated to everything from cardio, to strength training, to swimming, to class and instructor centric sessions, outdoor & indoor pickle ball courts, and even an incredibly spacious rooftop cafe / bar / patio recreational area with, among other things a shuffle board setup, you’d be hard pressed to find an activity or exercise that could not be undertaken at the Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. I also must draw attention to the ever present professionalism and positive demeanors exhibited by the staff. Additionally, their spa and sauna facilities are quite excellent. Time permitting this fitness center is a place you can easily enjoy for an entire day without running out of things to do. The only drawback pertains to the parking availability. If possible I’d strongly suggest taking public transportation because the lot fills up quickly during peak hours and on the weekends. But otherwise I’ve nothing but good things to say about the Lakeshore S&F 👍.

Lakeshore fitness? More like lakeshore daycare. Kids running around everywhere. Plus limited lifting equipment and some very run down areas of the gym with drywall chipping off and dirty floors. Not worth the high monthly price for membership, and I’m pretty sure they are raising prices too…The rooftop is nice and is probably my favorite part

Lakeshore has some agreement with a local high school which gives all students membership. The small, rundown gym floor is completely flooded with teens at all times. I highly recommend FFC Lincoln Park as a great alternative that's the same price but a far better experience.

We were members, then stopped after we moved to a new neighborhood. Two kids and a few years later and we still love coming....so do my toddlers. The childcare folks know my kids by name and it's an easy separation. I've been able to manage everything from my marathon training to work calls from the deck. Food is above average, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is a great facility with good people!

Agree with others that the facilities are rundown and the staff is unhelpful. Took forever to schedule things and response time to emails was multiple days. Tried to cancel once and they convinced me to do a hold. More interested in getting your money than providing a quality experience. Do not recommend. Other gyms are more expensive but more than make up for it in terms of quality, cleanliness, and overall experience.

I was part of a tennis tournament here and at midtown. Lakeshore was super helpful, kind and accommodating. They had great staff, the courts were in the right kind of good shape (not necessarily pretty but no dead spots, the surface was great), the viewing areas were really great, and they provided food which was totally what we needed. They also had free parking facilities. If I was picking a tennis club, they'd be my choice. Thanks Lakeshore, the tournament turned out great. Oof, and that rooftop....

Boy are these guys doing everything right! Safety is clearly a top priority -- they have HEPA air filters all over the place in addition to people cleaning the heck out of everything. They have also really treated their staff right during this crazy covid time. As a long term member, they have also communicated exceedingly well and made me feel very comfortable with everything going on and how they are handling it. I have heard from friends that they haven't gotten billing answers quickly or didn't like how their cancellation was treated, and seen some reviews on this website, but I am frankly shocked by how entitled these folks are when businesses like these need our support to stay alive as everything crumbles around us. People need to give small businesses a break -- and frankly a lifeline -- to stay in business or we won't have any of these businesses when you are ready to come back. They communicated really well throughout -- I can only imagine the people who are complaining don't really read their emails, check the company's website or facebook as everything they did was on the up and up and well documented in all of these places. I am going (almost) every day still and feel safe and thrilled with how well I am taken care of. They created outdoor classrooms for fitness classes, pods to work out in and great events to return some normalcy to my life. Honestly, I feel less safe at Home Depot than I do at Lakeshore. The team there are a bunch of really nice people, doing really good stuff. This is the type of business we need to get behind!

Bought a 10-pack from Coach and half way through I've already seen tons of improvement, especially on my backhand. He also put me in touch with several other players at my skill level, which is great because I have others to hit with in the city. He's a good dude and a solid coach. Definitely recommend!

Lakeshore Sport & Fitness helped me up my game from 3.0 to 3.5 by focusing on the basics. Lakeshore Sport & Fitness improved my backhand and net play through a focus on the basics. Instead of boring drills, he had put me in match-like situations which helped improve my mindset for games. Lessons with McClain are always fun and never a chore. Try him out!

We have been members for a while and really respect how they handled the whole Covid closure thing. Communication before they closed was amazing. We weren't ready to come back to the club when it reopened in June or July and they took care of us by putting our membership on hold with no problems. We recently started back up with our kids in swim and tennis lessons and us doing regular work outs. It feels very safe and everything is really under control. It makes us feel normal again. They even have special HEPA filtered air for EACH treadmill! The building is huge and there aren't ever a lot of people there. We have read some other members had some issues with billing or whatnot. We are very confused by that since it was so obvious from what they sent us how to handle everything. They were professional and did everything that they said they would do. Maybe these other people weren't paying attention to the communications? We really couldn't be happier to getting back to some semblance of normalcy in a very safe environment! Thanks LSF!

Before covid-19 I thought it was a great place to workout and I really enjoyed it. Since covid-19 they have gone above and beyond. They had frequent communication via email to members updating on what was going on. The emails were very detailed and came out quickly as Chicago progressed through different phases of reopening. They continue to go beyond what any other facilities have done. They have rearranged much of the weight and cardio equipment to allow for social distancing. The cardio equipment has dividers with suction tubes going to HEPA filters so you can safely do cardio without a mask. The hospitality staff were vigilant before, but now clean every single thing that has been touched. I am so incredibly thankful Lakeshore is open. They have created many new procedures such as reserving workout areas or the pool to ensure safety of each member. In a dark time it has been a light for me and many others. In addition, Harvest has been such a beacon during all of this. I loved the food last season with the new chef John Diaz. But this year it is one of the few places I feel safe dining out at. There is plenty of space between tables and all ordering and payment is virtual through the website Tock. Plus the view of the city is incredible.

I've been a member at Lakeshore SF for a few years and it is a very nice family club. My son is very comfortable there and knows the facility inch by inch. The cafe is top notch and we'll run. The front rooftop has a very good restaurant and seating/relaxation area as well as an indoor pool, more locker rooms. The rear rooftop offers a play area for kids and a couple of outdoor courts. They offer tennis development at all levels, with skilled pros, and a lot of opportunities to mix and play. The rooftop parties give you a chance to meet the staff and other members. I left out a lot but overall it's a great value with a friendly and inviting staff and social atmosphere.

  • 4/5 Nick C. 3 years ago on Google
I belong mainly for the tennis program. The pros, classes, and overall community are great. However, the courts themselves (7 and 8 in particular) are in relatively poor condition and can be difficult to play on. The only serious competing club is midtown (nicer and higher # of courts), but it is more than 2x as expensive as LSF, so your decision may come down to price vs quality. I plan to stay with LSF, and hope that they plan some renovations in the future.

We are a family with 3 kids, ages 7, 5, and 2. We have been members for 3 years and love this place. The summer camp is awesome, the kitchen is the best....Robyn n crew go out of their way to make life easy for parents. If you are looking for a 5 star, pretentious club, then this is not for you. If you want an affordable club to socialize and create community for your family, then this is the place. The summer time rooftop scene is incredible.

Great place to workout! The club has gone above and beyond during covid to ensure everyone’s safety. There are dividers for the cardio equipment with suction tubes going to air scrubbers which allows you to do cardio without a mask. Everything feels clean and the staff is always super friendly. The rooftop is also amazing with a great view of the city. Harvest restaurant has delicious food and good hospitality!

My family and I take full advantage of all the amenities; summer camp, fall learning pod, farmers market, swim lessons, holiday brunch events, Harvest restaurant dates, etc. I love the people and the place. I especially like that the same people I met 2 yrs ago still work in child care, restaurants, front desk and more - I think that speaks volumes about how they treat the employees. Hugh fan. I highly recommend a family with grade school children to explore the family friendly workout center.

Was a member for 2 years because of close proximity to my apt. Staff seemed nice. Gym has a lot of amenities but is very out dated and bizarre layout The place is one giant daycare. Little kids running around everywhere inside and on the bball courts. Teenagers on their phone / never putting weights back. For such a massive facility they have limited treadmills and free weights. They have 2 regular squat racks inside this building. How is that even possible? They added an outdoor gym in a parking lot that no one uses. They should make 2 of their 8 tennis courts into more workout space. They gym has potential but has a long way to go. Also, your membership increases $$ on your birthday ! Happy bday to you!

I love how this club has gone above & beyond to make group classes feel safe. I have not seen theses “pods” anywhere else. I know the cleaners they use (on our equipment when we finish our workout) require special certification to handle. And the air purifier is running between classes. Teachers are great. Members are great!! Two thumbs up!
