I do love this gym and the environment. One issue is the hours. It closes at 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM depending on the night but it would be so much better if they returned to their original schedule and closed at 11:00 PM.

The quality here has gone down significantly over the past 6 months. The equipment in particular needs to be better taken care of. A lot of the spin bikes don’t work properly & there only 2 available on the cardio floor (neither of which have a working screen on them) making it extremely difficult to be able to ride alone since there are classes going on in the cycle room throughout the day. The pool clocks seem to never be working and half the lockers in the women’s locker room don’t work. Lately the weight floor has had a stench that hasn’t seemed to go away. $80+ a month is WAY to expensive for all the issues going on here.

Staff is great, facility is nice, people that go here are also nice, nobody tries to show off or be conceited about their bodies. Only reason why I deducted a star is because they close way too early PERIOD! They should increase their hours of operation.

Seriously Overcrowded. Predatory Membership Policies. If you can go to the gym between 9AM-3PM you're fine, in fact its a great gym if you can go on off hours. Otherwise you might as well not come. Which is why I stopped going. If you're lifting weights I'd expect to wait 10+ minutes for things like bench and curl bars in realist weight ranges and don't even think about "getting in line" for the squat rack, they only have 2 and it feels like there are about 100+ people at the gym at any given time. This isn't even the worst part. The worst part is how they try to lock you into payments. I signed up for a displayed fixed-length membership. Little did I know that there is an auto-renewal policy. Which isn't even in the Terms and Agreements, but come to find out it's in a supplementary "Note." So if you do decide that this is the place to waste your time at, then make sure you bring your lawyer. You can't even download the terms and agreements from the website, they only host it in a "non-downloadable" format that's hard to read. Best of all, they sell your collection amount. For me I stopped going, moved and had discontinued the card that I had linked up so they auto-renewed my membership for a year, falsely charging a discontinued credit card and then sold my "debt" to a company in India with only a PO Box as an address. So now I can't even dispute the claim with the company I have the issue with. A real bunch of crooks.

Can be a great gym. Good equipment, space, and location. Has become way too crowded. They decreased the hours and now close at 9 - a Covid measure that was never reversed. Impossible to get onto a machine or bench without a wait between the hours of 5 and 8. Frustrating.

I dont recommend--I had prepaid a one-year membership, and moved out of state during the middle of the membership. No biggie--I didn't try to claw back any of the prepaid cost, understanding i had agreed to pay for a year under my contract. Now, many months later, I see a 60 dollar charge from this gym. They transitioned me to a monthly membership at the end of my pre-paid year without notice. I called to dispute the charge, of course, since I live out of state and was under a one-year membership contract. The transition to monthly should have been communicated, as I have not scanned into the gym there in at least 6 months. So annoying.

Do not join this gym! Joined this gym due to it being near my apartment and having the simple amenities I was looking for in a gym. After a couple weeks of going I quickly realized how overcrowded this place is and LPAC continues to sell new memberships. Each day I would have to wait until a locker opened up only to get upstairs to not find a single machine to workout on. I understand there are busy days, but this should not be a consistent thing, there should be some sort of limit on memberships. I do not want to add a half hour to my workout everyday waiting around for a locker or a machine. Due to this I planned to not renew my membership after my 6 month contract was up. Not only was I charged twice in the same month (they changed my payment date without confirming), they also auto renew your membership and require 30 days notice to cancel (something they do not inform you of). Calling to discuss this issue of being charged twice, the staff was rude and not helpful. Although I should have read more closely in the contract that my membership would continue after the six months (the top part clearly states the dates of my membership and that I would be charged 5 recurring payments only, so I figured that those 5 payments would be all I was charged unless otherwise notified...see below), a simple reminder that contract was ending would be nice. It's a total scam. Even without the contract scam, I would not return and waste my money on this overcrowded average facility gym.

Susannah is the best! I've searched a few gyms (new to the area) and haven't worked with someone in a membership office as professional yet personable as Susannah. I tried out their guest pass for a day and the gym seems pretty good overall but Susannah and their membership office is what sold me - I'm excited to check out the other locations!

Just arrived and wasn’t greeted by the winch at the front desk. Attempted to scan my barcode upon entering and she appeared frazzled because i was unable to scan until she adjusted the scanner. I said thank you and nothing in return. Horrible customer service. It’s quite rare that you will be greeted upon your arrival or departure. Thankfully, I have already cancelled my membership and would recommend seeking out other fitness centers. There are many others that will appreciate your business. Cannot wait to be a valued member at F45 Training next door to LPAC!

While I have enjoyed the classes and staff, Chicago Athletics Clubs have an extremely misleading term of agreement for month-to-month members. Not presented up front, but hidden in the contract is the terms stating that you have to give them a 30-Day notice of cancellation from their program. This effectively forces you to pay for an extra month of service even though you are on a so-called "month-to-month" program. This happening despite the fact that it costs extra to have a month-to-month membership, with basically no difference between it and a normal one. Also, during the time we were members at the Club, they completely devalued their point system by eliminating it entirely. All incentives that had been earned by going to the Club were lost. While technically not violating any of their terms or policies that you have to sign, they are misleading in the naming and pricing of their memberships. They should have a more ethical approach to business and be up-front about any potential fees and cancellation requirements.

This gym generally has good equipment and I’m happy they recently installed a fourth squat rack. However LPAC can be very frustrating if you have to go after work and appreciate programming. I joined this gym because I moved neighborhoods - my old gym was FFC and while it got busy in the evenings too, I never felt it was an impediment to my workout. I feel like I spend a lot of time at LPAC walking around to look for free space or a machine and have to change my planned routines often. I shudder thinking about what January will be like. Considering the price of this gym, it can be frustrating to feel like your workout time isn’t as effective as it could be, especially when you have specific training goals in mind.

I’ve been all over to several different gyms in Chicago and I have to say that this one is my favorite! I especially love the fact that there’s a steam room I can relax in after my workout! Speaking of which, I decided to invest in myself and get a trainer. The trainer I was paired with has also been great! If you’re looking for someone to help you reach your goals, I recommend Chad Dixon! He listens to what your goals are and creates a routine for you to get there. I’ve had several sessions so far and am already noticing positive changes. I will also say that I have a bit of a crazy schedule, and he’s always very understanding and flexible with my availability…which has been extremely helpful!

It's impossible to find a perfect gym for the right price. Wouldn't we all like to be able to afford Midtown Athletic Club or East Bank Club? But we can't, and may not live convenient to their locations. So we have CAC clubs. Not as fancy as Equinox or FFC, but a step above L.A. Fitness and XSport, and ahead of Planet Fitness-----in terms of facilities. Not the most convenient location for me personally, sometimes it takes me 20 mins to get there. But if it's not crowded, it's worth it. It does get very, very crowded, think Mon - Thurs around 6PM.....I just give up on lifting weights those days, go to treadmill....Sometimes I walk around just seeing what I can do where I won't have to awkwardly stand around and wait for a machine or pool lane.....but this is part of the experience. The good thing is, when you do this, you don't have to feel guilty about skipping the gym, and it's an abbreviated experience. You may not hit your goals, but you put in the effort, and the "mental benefit" of exercise is still there to a degree lol When you can use the machines and it is not very crowded, it's totally worth the membership. But I pay $80 through Gympass. Would recommend that if it is an option as it seems to avoid the auto-renew membership issues some have mentioned. $80 is less per month than the month-to-month, but more than the annual rate. Without Gympass.....it's a closer call. The YMCA nearby here for $50 was a good compromise, would consider those if this didn't work for you.

I've been using this gym for 4 years now. Great workout facility, has everything you need and most of the things you'd want. Well maintained and clean, but the hours are not great. They shortened their hours in COVID and have shown no signs of extending them back to the original hours. It's been enough of an issue for me that I gave them 2 starts. Would go to a new gym but I have a lower membership fee locked in and don't want to pay double for the same amenities.

The best way to describe LPAC is to compare it to a pub. It has a homey feeling about it where everyone comes here for personal improvement. LPAC has complementary parking in its lot that is maintained my friendly staff which is a necessity if you are commuting by car. The upstairs weight lifting area is extraordinary as it opens up and feels much larger that it looks from the outside. All the equipment is brand new. The classes are at convenient times and are offered for just about everything: yoga, cycling, weight lifting, water aerobics, boxing, rock climbing, etc. Well worth the investment! Sometimes I go just to relax in the sauna, steam room, or the hot tub.

Though a bit pricey, LPAC (along with its sister gyms in the CACs) is a fantastic option for a comprehensive fitness center. Friendly staff, excellent (and new!) facilities, and a great arrangement in which you can access all gyms in the CACs family at a slightly higher fee.

This gym is so new and nice! The equipment is super modern and works well. The people who work here seem really nice and I always have a good experience here. The gym can get crowded around rush hour, but you can usually find a free machine despite that.

WARNING TO ALL MEMBERS!!! When I signed up for my membership I told them it would be short term because I would be moving. They told me that is not a problem just let them know when I want to cancel, because I could cancel at anytime. My experience with other gyms is you have to cancel before you are billed for the next month. However when I went to cancel my membership at CAC I was told I had to give at least 30 days notice. I did not realize and was just under 30 days. This resulted in me being charged for a month that I will not be using because I will be living thousands of miles away. When I spoke with ABC Financial Services, CAC's billing company, and the staff at Lincoln Park Athletic Club about waiving this charge they said they couldn't help me. I would think that an athletic club that prides itself on high quality equipment, classes, and experience would use a financial institute with similar principles as apposed to ABC Financial Services which has a bad track record as shown through their many terrible reviews online. I find this whole thing very frustrating and not a good business model. I use to love CAC but now this has left a bad taste in my mouth. I would discourage people who are not members from joining.

To everyone ripping into this place for the number of members, yes, if you go during typical gym hours it will be crowded. You should expect this when living in the city. The facilities are great. The equipment is clean and works well. Their hours offer you a more flexible workout schedule and I love going here.

Great gym and staff but they decreased the hours and it’s practically impossible to get a squat rack or bench after work. Other machines including cardio are also extremely busy right after work. They need to change something…

LPAC is a great gym. Easy to navigate, well organized, clean, and not busy in the mornings. Would highly recommend Blane for personal training as well. In 6 months, I’ve seen such a huge improvement in my overall strength and wellness by working with him. As someone who is not very athletic and has not spent time in a gym, he is very approachable, friendly, and intentional about reaching the goals of his clients.

I recently joined here and love the ability to do a thorough workout without being limited. There’s two separate studios and the second one has tons of dumbbells, step ups, bands, kettle bells, TRX, etc! I love going there away from other people to work out sometimes. The weight area has a lot of cable stack machines, new dumbbells, new benches, etc. bonus is the dream and sauna. So happy!

Hands down the best gym in Chicago! I have been a member of LPAC for about about 4 years now and will never leave. They offer so many great classes. I am particularly obsessed with HIIT (high intensity interval training) on Monday and Thursday nights. The instructor is awesome and makes class so much fun! There is so much energy in the room and what a great workout! They offer so many other classes Body Pump, CXWorx, Full Body Blast, Abs & Arms and the list goes on. I don't know what I would do without LPAC and all of their amazing workout classes.

Idk why Lincoln Park Athletic Club has 4.1 stars. The facility is amazing and the staff are truly wonderful. It can get crowded but what do you expect with a gym that is in such a central location. Locker rooms are well kept and clean, there is a huge variety in classes, and everyone respects each others space (no weird youtubers recording their workouts here). Would also highly recommend Julie's Sports Training class!

Closes at 9pm and too crowded for a squat rack until 8:30pm Monday to Wednesday. Although I live across the street and this is convenient I end up paying for a 2nd gym membership that is 24/7. Probably going to move once my lease it up. LPAC sux!

The facilities here are excellent. The people who work here are very nice and do an excellent job of giving you all of the information. It is more expensive than let's says an LA Fitness, or Xsport. However, the equipment, the multiple locations through out the city, and the fact that there is free parking is well worth the price. Also, if you work for a non-profit, they provide an excellent discount!

I love this place. LPAC has an enormous weightroom (6 squat racks; several benches, cable stations, and dumbbell racks; many machines) that makes it easy to get the equipment you want. The cardio room is similarly massive and the group classes are free with membership. It can get crowded in the 6–7:30 am window, and after 5 pm too, and I wish they were open a bit later in the evening, but that's all okay. I'm very happy with my membership.

I actually liked going to the gym since it was nice I could go to other locations and it was close to my house but my god, canceling my membership is the typical stereotype of what you would expect. They don't handle their own membership so you have to ask them for a code to then pass along to the company that does manage it Then they will determine if your reason for cancellation is acceptable, just lie and say you're moving out of Chicago. Once they do that you still have to pay another months membership and they will call you relentlessly if you are late on your payment you shouldn't even have to make. Of course then when I tried calling them I was on hold for 45 minutes. Things don't have to be this way, we deserve better.

I’ve been coming to Lincoln Park athletic for close to 15 years now. I live here in Chicago and also in Los Angeles so two years ago I had joined equinox where I belonged for the past two years. I have to say, out of all the Chicago Athletic Clubs this is the one I like the best. The Lakeview location reminds me of going to a gay bar. I like the Lincoln Park location because it’s a clean cut, classy group of people that are respectful to each other and to the cleanliness of the machines. The gym is immaculate, the staff is great and the locker rooms are always clean especially the men’s locker room ~ completely fastidious. Considering I was paying almost $200 more for a luxury club, I would say this is pretty close in regards to equipment offering and space to Equinox ~ the only difference is, the walls aren’t all black and there is not marble floors in the locker rooms and steam rooms but other than that there’s really no difference between this and Equinox.

I love this gym. I was notified of the 30 day termination notice also. Pros: Can go to any other gym location Sauna and steam room are very nice Walk in yoga classes Stellar gym equipment Open space concept is very cool. Doesn't have a dimly lit gym feel! Beautiful gym, great classes, good facilities, not ridiculously expensive Cons: Can get crowded in the evenings after work hours (pretty typical at a downtown gym) Considering the fact its a larger gym in the city, that's to be expected, I don't see why that demotes it to a 1 star gym. I would argue it's crowded because people like it.

I love this place, and have continued to enjoy my workouts with the new & necessary safety protocols. I just saw a review from someone named Emily Owen and kinda wanted to balance out her ridiculous review...I've personally interacted with Susannah at LPAC and she's always been a complete delight! I had a similar issue with the payment processes during the quarantine, but it was resolved and I very quickly understood what happened and how I'd misunderstood the situation. I think Emily must be mistaken, or simply doesn't understand how to talk to people/how businesses work. In any case, she seems like a totally unpleasant person (look at her past reviews) and is besmirching this good company & Susannah's name because, it seems, she messed something up. Talk about a Karen, totally unprofessional.

This review is only for the predatory contract as others have stated. They auto-renew your membership without telling you and force you to pay for another month. Terrible practice and you can pay less for nicer gyms with better hours, cleanliness and service. I do love the classes but the way they scam people is wrong. Make sure to read the other reviews here as well. Go somewhere else.

The gym is usually clean and it's a great place to workout when you can find something, anything to workout on. A lot of this is not a gym problem but a people problem. I'm giving this gym a four star primarily because who knew that while people are working out, they have to take 10 minute craps and a line can form for the 2 stalls.

I recently became a member and I am really happy with the Aqua TBT class on Sunday and the Bodypump class on Mondays. Very nice and clean locker rooms, showers and pool. It is really a pleasure coming in. My only request to the manager is to add more Aqua TBT classes in the afternoons or evenings during the weekdays or maybe on Saturday. I am sure that many of us will gladly have Aqua TBT classes few times a week and not only on Sunday.

Just recently moved to the city. Was searching for gym with a good selection of weight lifting equipment to keep up my fitness and signed up with CAC and I don’t regret it AT ALL. Yeah, it gets crowded during peak hours and you may not get one of the platforms, but there is so much space and room to do deadlifts, etc. And don’t get me started on the classes. All the instructors so far have been phenomenal and there is always a class you can take everyday. I especially love the Vinyasa yoga and boxing classes. Definitely a difficult task to have a “bad gym day” when there’s so much to do here.

  • 1/5 Colleen R. 3 years ago on Google
Not worth the money at all. Overcrowded, you have to arrive 45 minutes ahead of a class to get a spot. Every time I went and all the lockers were full so people would stand in the locker room and stalk the people that were leaving. Not a lot of floor space for personal workouts and and the upstairs cardio room spells terrible and is very hot. They kept everyone on the auto pay after the pandemic and snuck in an email in between their spam emails about their app that doesn’t work. They charged people even if you called to cancel the same day.

  • 3/5 Dimitri V. 1 year ago on Google
Pros: - Good location - Good parking - Sauna is hot - towel service is nice - lots of cables - nice squat racks Cons: - closes about an hour too early every single day. - Busy, even an hour before closing, because they close too early. - Cleanliness in men’s sauna and steam room is questionable. Wood rotting in men’s sauna hasn’t been replaced. - Should mop more often. - Small selection of machines.

Great place to lift weights. 6-7 squat racks /deadlift platforms so there's always at least 1 open. Multiple dumbbell racks, multiple cable fly machines, tons of equipment, huge weight room space. The people in the weight room are all chill, mostly adults minding their business getting it in. Haven't seen any TikTok fitness kids filming themselves. Relaxed, friendly vibe, everyone is focused on making themselves better. New to Chicago, looked at multiple places to join, super happy with my decision.

This gym has been fantastic throughout the pandemic. I always see members and staff wiping down equipment and making sure everything is clean. They take your temp when you walk in the door and a mask is required to work out. Every staff member I’ve talked to has been friendly and professional. And to the people complaining about the sneaky 30 day notice you have to give to cancel your membership, that’s how it is at basically every gym you can sign up at. If you want to cancel on the last day of the month, of course they’re going to charge you for the prior month. Otherwise they would essentially be giving away a free month. The only thing that’s a bit inconvenient is the changed hours and early closing times, but I understand that’s due to the pandemic.

Surprised to read bad reviews on this place. My experience has been phenomenal. Front desk staff is very friendly, competent, and helpful. Facilities are very nice, clean, and well taken care of, everything is always stocked. The men's steam sauna is largest and nicest I've found yet in the city, SO good. With a pool, jacuzzi, classes, etc I never feel like I'm lacking anything here. Also huge shout out to the personal trainer Chad. Legit the best trainer I've ever worked with, knows his stuff very well and has helped me improve my form on all lifts. He is grounded, supportive, optimistic, and has less ego than any trainer I've worked with before him. Stellar guy, if you're looking for personal training look no further.

Good gym membership for what you're paying. I like the accessibility to multiple locations since LPAC has been quite crowded after work.. Wish the hours were longer. The Lincoln Park location has a sauna, steam room, digital-combination lockers, towels, a scale, a towel dryer and plenty of showers in the locker room which I appreciate.

Went to try rock climbing for the first time. Tried to charge me 30 bucks for a 1 day gym pass. Didn't tell me that the first day is free for a new member. When asked about it feigned ignorance.

Great gym but a little pricey. If you are looking for a clean, professional and convenient gym (located right off the Diversey Brown Line stop) then this is a great option. They offer a ton of classes (which are included in your monthly fee), and the instructors are great about accommodating all skill levels. Try Yoga Sculpt on Friday's with Kraig or HardCore with Linda on Monday. They offer a ton of discounts: corporate, couples, roommates and I believe you can even get a special price is you are a nanny, teacher or student. They also have a mobile app that is pretty handy for keeping up with the class schedules and the club hours.

Great fitness option in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood. Clean locker rooms, up to date equipment (cardio & weights) and a great variety of group classes to choose from. For those with young children, this facility offers a great kids club for little ones as young as 8 weeks old.

Towel service & group fitness classes make it worth the $79/month imo. My biggest complaint is that the hot tub has been out of service for a few months.

Excellent facilities in a modernized old building. Airy studio for strength training. I haven't tried classes yet, but a huge number of machines are available whenever they are not used for a class. Treadmills, rowers, stair climbers, ellipticals, etc. Nice pool for lap swimming. Clean nice locker rooms. And free parking! Great trainers, friendly staff, reasonable cost. Yes, I love it.

Love this gym. Great service and classes. It feels like a community gym that the members and staff are proud to take care of. Best gym in the CAC network.

Nice gym with a bigger free weight lifting space than the one in Bucktown. Decent value for the money (especially if you take advantage of scheduled classes). Staff and other gym goers here have been great in my experience.

Great gym. Lots of space and has pretty much everything a fitness enthusiast would need. Equipment of note are: Plate-Loaded BootyBuilder, 5 Squat Rack/DL Platforms (although you can DL off the platforms since the floor is all turf), Rock-climbing treadmill, 5+ Dual Cable machines. Only thing missing is a Smith Machine, but really who needs that lol

🫤 I've been a member of Planet Fitness for a while, and while the gym itself is nice and the staff are generally friendly and helpful, the chronic issue of the gym not opening on time has become a major frustration. 🫤 You get what you pay for. There’s no AC, pretty dirty everywhere, machines are constantly broken, treadmills are from 1992. They took away all dumbbells. It’s bizarre that a gym doesn’t have dumbbells available. No hair dryer in the locker room. Most of the members are ignorant, they don’t wipe mach...
