TLDR: Signed up on a Friday and canceled on the next Monday and that costed me $150. NO PARKING AND THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. Before signing up I asked the staff attendant, “is there parking around the area”, she said “yes there’s plenty of parking”. The next two days I tried to go to the gym, first early morning and late at night, in both occasions I wasn’t able to find parking so I decided to cancel my membership. I called to cancel my membership but they wouldn’t do it over the phone and wanted me to send an email. After requesting a cancellation with an email, I didn’t receive any confirmation, then I called again the staff member said there’s a 31 days grace period so you will be billed for the next month. So that $50 sign up fee and $50 for the first month and another $50 for the second month and I’ve never used the gym.

I love this neighborhood gym! I’ve been a member for a couple of years. It’s the best prices in the area and they really accommodate to make sure everyone can afford to join the gym. They have lots of equipment and there’s always plenty of space to workout.

Southport and Wicker Park fitness are terrible places to workout! Manager Colin was not comely over the phone and is never at the facilities to address the issues! Take your money anywhere else, literally! You've been warned.

Gym is okay for the price but cancelling was frustrating. They demand you pay extra month when you want to cancel, and threaten to send you to collections agency if you do not comply. Pretty shady business practice to get an extra month of fees from members who are leaving the gym.

(Southport) Phenomenal. Great idea. Great execution. The way in which they maximized use of space was great. When staff was present they seemed to be constantly cleaning. The location is nice also. Being on the second floor limits passersby distracting you while you’re in the zone. Great little place.

What a great locals! Only gym. Open every day of the year, 24/7. Got tired of my rate continually changing on me at Wicker Park athletic club so I came here, havent left (that was 5 years ago!) Place's cleaned twice a day too, which is unheard of in the gym world. Great training, great staff, everything you need and nothing you don't. Can't recommend this enough

I've been going to Wicker Park Fitness for a few months now and love it! I tried a few other gyms in the area and (despite being more expensive and bigger) their equipment was run down, the weightlifting areas were always packed full, and their hours were worse. I'm not sure what it is, but the members at Wicker Park Fitness are so courteous and never hog the equipment. Even though the gym is smaller, I never have trouble doing all of my workouts. I also love that it's a 24 hour gym so I can drop in very early or late at night on a busy day!

This gym has a lot to offer for an affordable price! They have a great new member personal training deal with awesome staff. The gym is 24/7 and there's another location! They even have a hanging bag and a deadlift platform!!

Update: This review seems to be getting a lot of views, so I thought I'd mention that the trainer I worked with has left this gym to go work for a competitor. It's my understanding that the cost of membership and training packages has increased significantly, but the overall quality and amenities at the gym have declined. I believe they don't even offer group classes now, a feature that once set them apart.. basically all gyms in the city have this. It seems they are suffering from mismanagement. Original review: Although I've moved away from the area, I still highly recommend this gym. Martin, the personal trainer I was matched with there many years ago, is top notch and is an extremely attentive and experienced trainer. He takes a very methodical but diverse approach to helping people reach their fitness goals, going well beyond the role of personal trainer (eg nutrition, trigger point massage, flexibility/mobility, and general advice on wellbeing). It's a smaller space than many gyms, but the price is quite low, especially for wicker park. The equipment is all good quality & the people that there were always typically very friendly and laid back.

Good hours available for working out. Also I lost my credit card and forgot to update my info for a month so they called me to update this info and didn't make me pay the last month saying, "Everyone is going through hard times right not." Now that is CLASS. 10/10

Very chill gym. A lot of value for a good price. The location is also great! I did not know this before I became a member but the gym is actually open to members 24/7. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a gym in the neighborhood.

For several reasons including Covid, I have stopped going to WPF yet kept paying monthly to support a local gym. When my credit card changed, I decided to stop this membership, letting it 'time out', but now they are coming after me for 'cancellation fees' yet I have not used the Gym in months. Be very careful with these guys. I am not happy with how they treat clients. Very disappointed.

I have been a member at this Gem of a Gym for over 10years. I give it a full recommendation to anyone who views a gym as place you go to workout. If you view a gym as place that has a barista, steam room, and carpeted locker rooms - WPF ain’t your place! WPF offer all the essentials for cardio and weight training and for low membership fees. Staff and management have been super friendly since day one - and always show care for their members, and the gym’s facilities. Only crowded during the 5:30-6:30, but rarely have to wait for any station I want to use. WPF is offers a super in-and-out experience for those aiming to make the workout the top priority of a trip to the gym : )

Great gym! Extremely clean, the staff is friendly, and the pricing is fair and has no hidden fees etc. like a lot of other gyms. Love that it is a neighborhood gym and the set up is pretty cool. Staff is constantly cleaning even when the gym is busy, which is awesome! Would recommend.

After researching many gyms in the area, Wicker Park and Southport Fitness are easily the best gyms in Chicago for the price. Always clean with well-maintained equipment, and have everything you could every need at a gym with a great variety of cardio and resistance training equipment. The gym is also 24/7 access for members, which has been greatly beneficial for me. You simply will find no better place to train for your money than at these 2 locations. In addition, the personal training deals are also unbeatable compared to any gym in or out of the city. They offer 3 sessions of personal training for $99 which is a price that no other gyms in the city will even come close to. Would recommend this personal training service and the gyms in general to anyone!

Definitely a gym I recommend! Great equipment, not overcharging like a certain other gym, and friendly service. My only complaint is the space, it just feels too small for me especially on days when it’s more busy than usual, of course that can be fixed by going in the morning or late at night. Awesome gym overall.

This gym is great! I love that has 24/7 access and fair rates. They are very upfront with their policies and super easy to sign up or cancel. They have fantastic PT rates for new members as well. It’s also kept clean and has very friendly staff. I love that it’s not a factory style gym as well.

I started Wicker Park Fitness to train with Martin after seeing some of his amazing transformations on Facebook. Firstly, the space is just the perfect size with no frills, just the equipment that is needed which I tend to lean more to when looking for a gym. They have plenty of weights and we never have had an issue grabbing the ones we need throughout. A problem that I have encountered at other gyms. Martin is an amazing trainer. He is very knowledgeable about everything to do with fitness and really works with you and your needs and goals. He has taught me a lot with our weekly sessions and I have gained a lot of muscle and tone. During our training hour, he always respects others that are in the gym working out, making sure that he doesn't take any machine being used by another. I even added an additional session with him monthly. I have trained with many trainers in the past and I enjoy the workouts Martin customizes for me to achieve my goals! I highly recommend Martin if you are looking to get real results, but you might want to hurry as his schedule fills quickly!

Best gym in Wicker Park. Small, affordable, low membership count so there's always space and never a line. Haven't had this place close once in the 4 years I've been a member (except when city all shut down, but that doesn't count). Cleaned daily, machines kept up to date, trainers helpful and don't try to sell to you if you're not interested.

Excellent gym at a great price. Clean, no nonsense, and the management is locally owned and takes cares of it's members. Other gyms were charging members in Wicker Park during COVID-19, but this gym didn't AND they added time onto members accounts for time closed! $1.50 a day, can't beat this spot.

Love this gym! I had two different gym memberships prior to COVID (one near work and one near home). After COVID hit, trying to pause my membership with the big chain gym near where I worked was a nightmare, while WPF has been communicative, transparent, and helpful. This is the only membership I’ve kept due to the stellar way they’ve handled COVID. It may be a small neighborhood gym but it’s well-maintained, super clean, the staff is friendly, and I can get a great workout in without compromising my health. Personal training sessions with Kenzie have also been fantastic – he’s understanding of my limitations put still pushes me to better myself. I definitely recommend them if you’re looking for a new gym.

Cheap, everything you need. Great neighborhood gym. Run by locals, no nonsense. I'm a member at a gym on the northside (southport fitness) and my membership works here as well. This spot is awesome, intimate, clean, and full of rock solid members. Get a good gym, stop wasting time at big chains. This gym is clean, they take care of members, and Colin and the management really made COVID a breeze for me. So happy they're open and kicking butt!

Top-notch gym, 24 seven, about half the rate of the nearest one. (Wicker park athletic club is dogsh!t, avoid it) These guys make it so freaking easy. I honestly have no idea why every gym is not run like this. Was in here the other day, came in for a free day pass and stayed for a year membership. It didn’t take them long to set me up a personal training Either, the rates are so freaking low.

Overall great gym. Has all the amenities one could ask for. Its a good decent sized gym and pretty spacious at that, since it's not cluttered with machines... and people usually lol. Although the addition of 1 more machine, a Decline Chest Press Machine like the one at La Fitness, would make this gym perfect in my bias opinion (they do got a decline bench press, but lying on your back with your legs on higher ground than your head isnt really comfortable and a popular option for people lol.

If you are looking for a gym with great accessibility look no further then Wicker Park Fitness. With 24 hour access, I even managed to get a workout in after Thanksgiving dinner this past year! No frills gym with exactly what I need to power through a great workout. That’s the point right!? 😜 Busy during the usual peak hours but I always manage to seamlessly accomplish my goals while people respect the facility and the other members around them. It also boasts one of the cities most talented Personal Trainers, Martin. Him and his team have improved the wellbeing of my body and my health in a dramatic way. His skill is unmatched on so many levels from knowledge, form, nutrition.. really the list is never ending! Don’t walk… RUN… to WPF and their talented PT’s!!!

Great neighborhood gym. Rarely crowded (at least when I go). Several squat racks, good amount of cardio machines and free weights. People are friendly and respectful, no grunting or stalking you to get on a machine. Pricing is low compared to other gyms in the area and you get 24 hour access. My only complaint is the music, I am typically there during unstaffed hours and the music is sooooo loud. I wear Bose over the ear headphones and I have to turn up my music to the max in order to drown out what is playing in the gym. On top of that, it's always seems to be metal or hard rock playing. I feel like if music is going to blasting then it should at least be a neutral station that plays different genres. Would be nice if someone would turn down the volume before they leave for the day or turn it off all together since most people have their headphones on anyway. Other than that, great gym! :)

24/7 local's only gym. Cancelled my WPAC membership and came here. Way better, cleaner, easier to use and to cancel. No creepy trainers, don't have to get closed into a room to get a price for signing up. Gym, the way gyms should be. Member run, member used, honestly best gym in Chicago

  • 5/5 Mathew D. 1 year ago on Google
A solid no nonsense gym. Good mix of equipment including 3 squat racks and a clean/deadlift platform! They pack an impressive amount of functional equipment in this space. The hours can't get better and it only seems crowded at the peak after work hour. It has 3 different rooms and plenty of space in the locker rooms. A great value too with flexible plans.

Amazing local gym. The staff and trainers are very friendly. For being small they have an impressive selection of equipment and fair number of classes to select from. I gave it 4 stars because of basic upkeep. I went here for 4 years and after the ownership change there was a noticeable decline in cleanliness, equipment care and timeliness of equipment repair.

  • 1/5 Liz D. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely filthy. So dirty I couldn’t even shower there. Had the misfortune of working out here on a guest pass and it was terrible - limited weights and no classes. WPAC is around the corner and wonderful - go there. A dollar a day gym isn’t an excuse to be filthy. Attached photos. Note the owners snarky response below. Being polite is free.

I enrolled recently due to WPAC closing too early and having a "stay at home worker" schedule - ie. I work in healthcare so it means sometimes I have just enough time at 10 pm to workout-. So, basically I enrolled because it is open 24h. I am kinda shocked, locker rooms are a little dire and the facility could be cleaner and have better equipment. Also, no towel service. I know get what you pay for, but I was paying $20 more at my previous gym and it looks like beverly hills compared to this. WPF is affordable but not "dirt cheap", at least I would appreciate cleaner bathrooms and Electronic lockers.

I dance, and it's so nice to have a mirrored practice area. The Southport location (Southport Fitness) also has a mirrored room where the ceilings are higher, however the benefit of the Wicker Park gym is that the mirrors are on all four walls. This is really helpful for checking alignment in yoga and dance.
