Awesome place with alot of history! Have a look at the huge dinosaur bones inside. Then have a Walk around the zoo to see the elk, the wolves, bald eagle, hawks, turkeys, yaks, alpacas. The playground area & picnic area is great for kids. The gardens are beautiful & the vets memorial is too! Best of all it’s free!!

We were in town for an event and tried to find something fun to do to occupy time. Evidently, the Zoo is closed due to covid. They did not bother to post signs, update website nor social media which currently shows they are open. I did call the number and a voice recording states they are closed through Phase 4. Be advised.

Very nice rescue area for birds. Great that it's free. It certainly needs more volunteer help which I imagine is not easy to find. Nice playground & a little lake there, lots of picnic tables. Parking was easy. Overall a nice quick visit for me & my 8.5 yo daughter.

If you’re visiting Aurora when it’s nicer weather, this is worth checking out. It's been a min since I was last here but I wanted to share some pictures and add another positive review. Admission is free. Parking is free and has more than adequate space available. The zoo is closed on Wednesdays. During the summer months, the hours are extended until 5 pm. Fall-Spring, the zoo is closed at 4 pm. Besides the zoo, they have a visitor center, sunken garden, veterans waterfall, etc. Inside the visitor center, they have mastodon bones along with information to read. They also have bathrooms that are clean and well kept.

This zoo is small but so fun. Great for a few hours of exploring with my kiddos. Stroller friendly. I really enjoyed that the majority of the animals were there because they were rescued from the wild for one reason or another. The zoo also has a great playground!

We had such a fun time at the zoo and park! There is also a playground and splash pad close by. We loved the animals. The restrooms and visitor area is closed for the season but there are port-a-potty available and they are clean with hand sanitizer available.

A relatively small zoo offering free entry. Multiple wild and farm animal enclosures to take a look at. Please don't expect this place to come with all the amenities and luxury things that you may find at other paid zoos. Keep in mind that place is free to visit. We visited the zoo on a pretty hot day so we could hardly see any wildlife except for a howling white wolf and Elks strolling around. Reptile zoo had multiple snakes, Cobra, alligators, fish, geckos. There’s a small gallery right at the entrance which is good for a one-time visit. Mammoth-size tusks and more very well kept. Plenty of covered/uncovered picnic areas. Multiple parking spaces too.

A lovely quaint zoo to visit if you are ever in the area. While it may be more popular in the summer, visiting in winter actually gives opportunity to see more animals walking around thanks to the quieter season.

My husband, 3 year old son, and myself went here around 1 pm. Opens at 12. Free parking and free admission. Beautiful, clean, and Lots of flowers! They have a sprinkler water pad for kids to play with water. Also have a huge park with picnic areas. It was not too crowded on a Sunday. They had eagles, otters, peacocks, chickens, llamas, deer, owls, wolves, cougars, and a really cool reptile house with alligators, turtles, snakes, lizards, and fishes. Takes about 45 min to go through everything so it’s not like Brookfield zoo but it’s nice to make the time pass on Sunday afternoon. We will come back again!

The zoo has about 9 animals. Some turtles, peacocks and 2 alligators. There are also a couple of Eagles. Not much fun at all. The park is old and run down. I took my 10 month old. He loves everything. I should have let him wrote the review. Slash Pad was awesome!!!

This is an excellent little park where someone has taken the time to take an flood retention overflow area and do some serious beautification by painstakingly planing beautiful, butterfly drawing, flowers and bushes and putting up a central fountain and some statues, some topiary bushes and also to display a small group of exotic animals and a handful of dinosaur bones. Regardless how simple it may seem, it is worth spending a couple of hours to truly go through this park and enjoy it for what it is and the work that someone has put into it and enjoy the beauty of it all. Check it out!

This small zoo is a surprise in Aurora, dating back over 100 years It only takes about 30 minutes to see everything if you're on your own, probably an hour with small children. Easy for small children to navigate. They have elk, bald eagles, a turkey vulture, an owl, a handful of reptiles, a wolf, a cougar, tortoise, alpacas, goats, a red-tailed hawk and peacocks. There's also an indoor section near the front featuring Mastodon fossils found when the park was created. It continues to be upgraded and is well-maintained - and FREE to the public.

Such a nice neighborhood zoo. Very clean, well cared for. Nice splash pad for the kids to keep cool. Just wish they had a better habitat for the alligators. Beautiful flower gardens

The park itself is small and doesn't have very exotic animals, mostly farm type animals and some rescued birds, but it's a very nice facility. The grounds are kept very well and there's a beautiful garden area, splash pad area & playgrounds for kids, golf course and nice picnic areas. Very clean and lots of parking lots. Admission to the zoo is completely free and you can take a free tram ride around the grounds. Overall, I would describe this as a diamond in the rough.

We stopped here while in the area visiting friends. The kids loved how close you feel to all the animals. It is perfect for a quick zoo visit! The only downside was the alligators outgrew their habitat and have recently been relocated to a different zoo.

We came to visit from out of town. It was a nice little walk around outside. They had a little pollen/ plant festival which was a great surprise to me!! We liked seeing the animals though some animals look like they could use a bit of an upgrade. My daughter loved playing at the park!

My family had so much fun here. I just love the park being right next to the zoo. Definitely the place to go when you don't know what to do on a Sunday. Very small and personal zoo. At first I was a bit disappointed in how small it was. Not like the bigger zoos. But I was satisfied with my visit. We really enjoyed ourselves and the animals.

Such a cute zoo with a surprisingly wide variety of animals & gorgeous, lush grounds. The reptile house is so fun- they've got a crocodile & alligator, plus an adorable turtle tank & imposing boa constrictor. The cougar was impressive, and the barn owls were such showoffs! A really fun place to visit- a hidden gem!

Little fun park! You can walk the Zoo in just a few minutes, so we always pack a lunch, find a picnic table next to the Elk's, eat lunch & than walk around and say Hi to the beautiful animals! They have lots of Hawks, a beautiful White Wolf, a few other animals as well, it keeps the kids happy!

This is a cute little Zoo. There are not too many animals. They have an adorable Otter. Beautiful Peacock. The flower garden is so pretty. The best part is that most of the park is handicap and wheelchair accessible. There is also tons of parking and lots of areas to have a picnic with a near by playground and a splash pad too!

A very small yet lovely zoo. What a little gem this is! It is nestled in a lovely park filled with oaks so a picnic lunch would be a fantastic way to finish your experience. I had no idea this was here and I have lived within 20 minutes of it for over 20 years!

For free, it was great to be able to see a couple animals and enjoy the beautiful day. Took us maybe all of 20-30 minutes. There was a nice playground for her to burn some more energy. I would go again.

A great area to bring your family, The zoo small but is free to enter and even has a tram that will take you around the whole park. Inside the park they have a big play ground for the little kids and a larger picnic grill area . There is also a water park and also a golf course in the same area and if i understood correctly they have a sledding hill for the winter time ( these prob aren't free) The sunken garden they have is very nice. Fountain and statues the works... great spot for some very nice pictures.. Way to go City of Aurora and the park district for keeping the place as nice as you do

I have a toddler so it was great. She really enjoyed the splash pad the best though. For free I rate it 10/10. There's a golf course, tennis court, some kids parks to play there also it's not just the zoo there's a decent amount of things to do.

Great small zoo. Sometimes you can't see several of the animals. Last time I was there they didn't have their alligators which was a big draw for us. Maybe they have them back. It's free and they have playgrounds nearby which is a big bonus.

This park has a lot to offer, from sunken gardens, WWI cannons, mammoth sculptures, a zoo, swimming pools (both not open during Covid-19), and various playgrounds. It's spacious enough where you feel alone. A quiet escape in a bustling city. There's also a golf course for those who wish to play. Highly recommend this park!

  • 5/5 Feray A. 4 years ago on Google
It's free and has just enough animals to keep a 3 year old happy. There are a lot of hilly areas inside the zoo and there are steps to get from one area to the next. There are some dug up bones inside the building that are neat. Some Mastodon bones they found while digging up the park!

Absolutely phenomenal place to unwind and walk around a little. There is a small area of water fountains for the kids to run around on a hot day. Donating to this place would be a great cause, as it is free to get in. Plus they take care of animals that need help. It was clean as well, as always. You won't regret visiting.
