I'm a fan of Dark Matter Coffee and have been for years. I no longer live in Chicago but always look for an excuse to visit when I'm in town. The cafe vibe is always fun, there is seating inside and out at this location, and there is plenty of fun merch available. Most importantly - the coffee is really good! Almond & oat milk are available for beverages.

This coffee shop is a cool place to hang out. Coffee tastes good, isn’t too pricey, and the place has nice vibes.

The coffee is not that strong, but I guess it’s their signature. I ordered a large mocha, overall taste is good. The shop has a good vibe, decoration, and stunning art painting. A lot of outdoor and indoor seats. Not sure if they have free wifi.

An interesting coffee shop. Ambiance and decor is appealing with the disco balls and such. Espresso is really great with how sweet and creamy it was. I paid a little over $3 for the donut and espresso which is so worth it. Service is top notch! A definite place to visit in Chicago!

Don't go for the food. I've never had anything good to eat there. Their coffee menu is kind of strange too. I believe every espresso drink in the menu has chocolate in it, but they don't have caramel in the store at all. The drinks are good and HIGHLY caffeinated, but not a typical menu. I prefer caramel to chocolate as it's more mellow, buttery, and salty to balance the espresso, but that's my personal preference. I know many people love chocolate in their coffee. Overall not my vibe. The decor is like... 90s stoner. There's free WiFi but you definitely can't get work done in this dark cave. The staff could be A LOT nicer.

Star Lounge has good vibes, strong coffee and a friendly staff. Great place to work for the day or meet up friends for a quick coffee. Located at Chicago Avenue for easy access. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a coffee in the west town or Humboldt park area.

Went here for coffee with friends and I was blown away. The atmosphere was amazing and I would recommend to anyone for a cup of coffee. The outside seating is very nice but I do wish some of the umbrellas were out for a bit more shade as most of it was in direct sun. The drints were very reasonably prices.

The service was superb! I really felt the warm welcome from the security guard through the whole crews. Amazing ambiance, amazing food, and amazing staff. The food also tastes good and well prepared. Not a crowded place, unlike others. Must visit and recommended. I will surely come back here soon. Keep up the good work always.

Quirky, quitchy and cool... everything a Coffee Lounge should be. Dark Matter Coffee hits the spot with the various fresh brewed and breakfast items. WiFi is spot on, great place to lounge, work and converse. The outdoor patio is the place to soak in the sun and get your caffeine fix. Did I mention the staff is outrageously awesome!!!???

nvr bn more impressed & enamored with any other coffee spot in my life; they're the most epitomic in every possible way...words don't even suffice, this is absolutely a must-visit! <3 ... (tried the 2 most adventurous lattes we could find on their menu, & were both pleasantly surprised with how much we loved them!)

Very loud!!! Fun and cute ambience, the service is friendly however the music is VERY loud! It’s not suitable for working, reading or studying. Other than that, the place is fun to hang out. Their second floor is offering couches and a pool table, walls are designed with murals which makes it really interesting. Another disappointment was a $1 up charge for a non dairy option. I think it’s getting out of control and is not a fair add on to the bill. The price of soy milk is the same if not cheaper than the price of a regular milk, with so many having lactose intolerance, offering a non dairy option is a service that increases the consumer rich, instead, the option is being treated like a luxury add on. My Wi-Fi never worked but I saw others connected. I won’t be back.

Coffee is good but you can easily be waiting 20-30 minutes for a carry-out order. A bit intense if you ask me.

Yesterday, I ordered a cup of mochaccino and a slice of chocolate cake. I was astounded when your guys served it so quickly. I praised her for being so kind and efficient in her work. You've surpassed my expectations, gentlemen! Thank you kindly! I would strongly suggest it to anybody I know! Man, till next time!

The place is unique and fun to look at when you are inside and in the back! The coffee however was not that great. Flavors were not that good and the baked goods behind the baker window looked in rough shape. 😬

It smells like heaven before you even open the door? That foam on my latte? It was like a thick fluffy cloud that made air all the way to my last sip! Great patio

Pleasing to the eye and taste buds, the Mayan mocha! I personally like the taste of black coffee also, so I ordered LIGHT syrup. Made it perfect. 😋

I go here regularly for my morning coffee and realized I have never written the wonderful review the staff deserves! They are friendly and welcoming at all hours (even before sunrise!). The service is excellent. Love this place!

I’ve lived in Ukranian Village for 3 years, and Star Lounge was my go to coffee shop for the majority of that time. In the last 6 months I’ve had too many negative encounters with the staff to justify spending any amount of money here, let alone the $10-12 for a latte. My last visit I went in early for the breakfast tacos they get from Tola Cafe. There were half a dozen left in the case and my wife asked for two. Before she could finish her sentence the tall bearded un-groomed employee grumbled that “the rest are for staff” and he scooped them up and put them behind the counter. I’ve never seen anything like it at a restaurant/café. He’s been rude to us and others in the past. I’ve seen him yell at other patrons for not correctly forming a line. I’ve had enough. Plenty of other great coffee shops in the neighborhood: Spinnin’ J, Collectivo, West Town Bakery, Publican.

Not handicap accessible, disco balls everywhere so if you're getting coffee to cure a headache maybe get it to go. Coffee is okay, i guess. Good place to have an existential crisis

Every time I come in here to do work, they are blasting emo/screamo pop music at what seems like max volume. The music is so loud that I hear it over noise-cancelling headphones. I kept giving it another try thinking it was just a certain day, but I'm not coming back any more.

It’s ok place. Coffee is ok. Music was too loud for coffee shop. Also, I don’t understand, why they didn’t offer a mug. It’s much more pleasure and less plastic:)

Exactly what they advertise themselves to be. Great coffee, too. Plenty of chocolates, pastries, lunch options, and gear/swag to be had at the OG Star Lounge location.

I was nice to see a small coffee shop busy! Congratulations. Coffee, Lattes, pastries reasonable in price. Lots of places to sit. Self service

We came for a coffee, 1st time trying this shop and here what I found: The place has simple but nice decoration, spacious, quiet, wifi is available, good location. Yet, when we came there was a long line as only one guy is serving in the hole place, he is the cashier and the barista, although he was doing a great job, I mean really a great job as no one complained or waited for too long, he has an excellent multi tasking and time management experience, but still it doesn’t seem right in such a place, maybe it’s not always like that but am just relaying what I experienced. At 1:30 pm there were limited choices of air exposed pastries, black coffee is served from a large thermos, there are liquid jugs which I think it’s flavored syrups, coffee menu on the wall is not really visible for someone standing in cashier queue so it took me a while to understand the colored hand writing on the black board, maybe it’s just me :-) and didn’t see any food menu and didn’t ask. Standard seating nothing fancy, cleanliness could be improved, coffee is

Barrel aged Mocha......try it, you won't regret it. The taste of their drinks are considerably better than your local Starbucks or Dunkin.

Wow Oh. My. WOW. Mayan Mocha. Absolutely delicious!!! The vibes and energy of the place is warming and welcoming, personally I enjoy the artsy feel. I get a "Fear the Loathing", vibe from some of the art work. They have a beautiful outside seating area too. The coffee has a beautiful aroma, taste, and me-oh-mighty-Boldness. The staff was as helpful as can be considering how busy it was around 9. They have dairy alternatives too; Almond or Soy¿

This place is pretty cool. The decor is really nice, hipster type place, the coffee is good and the donut we had was amazing (glazed with chocolate glaze), one of the best donuts I've ever had. There is inside and outside seating and it is dog friendly. The only downside, and this is a reoccurring comment from my trip to Chicago, the service was a little slow for me but I work in NYC so I'm used to things moving at a faster pace.

Their coffee, plain and black, is simply delicious. Then their specialty coffee recipes, such as the gingersnap trainwreck, are also great.

Always love at the Star Lounge! There are a plethora of coffee roasters and coffee shops in Chicago, but Dark Matter Coffee is by far my favorite. They have a few locations, all unique in their own special quirky way, but Star Lounge is my favorite. Always the best vibe going on in there! Great music, super awesome staff and plenty of seating, including great outdoor patio out back. My 8 and 11 year old often tag along with me and I never get evil eye-rolls from staff or patrons! They are my go-to, year round and they also have the best hours of operation!
