Small yet cute coffee shop! Espresso is good and a nice decor to warm-up too since it's very cold today. Just wished they had more options to choose from in the bakery items. Other than that barista is nice and prices were alright as I spent under $3 for my espresso.

Just came here to say that the reviewer who is angry about not being allowed in without proof of vaccination is the entire reason that I decided to come here in the first place. Knowing that this business cares about its employees and its customers, and it’s taking public health seriously, that’s what makes me feel comfortable coming into visit and giving them my money. Keep up the good work and know that we appreciate all of you service industry workers who risk your lives every day so that the world can attempt to keep turning.

Coffee is disgusting! Tastes very funky. Service is awful as well the 2 ladies working with glasses working 10/19/2023 at 11:00am were so rude. No customer service whatsoever. Coffee is beyond nasty very weird taste. Milk may be old I don’t know.

Super friendly coffee shop! They have a conference room available 1st come 1st serve. Their coffee options are spot on and diverse. I have been going here for years, and I'm very happy to continue to support my neighborhood's business.

Quirky little neighborhood cafe by the park, with great outdoor seating (sadly it was too cold today), a cozy fireplace and, gasp, a conference room! The staff was incredibly nice, and my dirty chai latte was the best I’ve ever had, with the most beautiful latte art I’ve ever seen. Parking around here sucks, but totally worth the effort.

I’ll never go back . You lost a faithful customer . Been coming here for 6 years . You shouldn’t be discriminating people who are not vaccinated . We have immune systems for a reason , I’ve never even gotten a flu shot and remain healthy !! My friend past away after she had a booster shot !!! This is def not about health clearly . This is about compliance . I’ll save my money and make my coffee at home

I'm trying a new North/West -side cafe every Friday. My third visit is to Portage Grounds. This cafe is such a little gem! My cafe a lait was tasty and the baristas were so sweet. My bagel and cream cheese wasn't great, but at least it wasn't expensive. The decor was so cute with a fireplace and christmas tree and I thought it was really cool that they had a conference room to work from. There was a ton of seating that's not useful now, but I'll have to come back in the summer to sit outside.

Awesome place, parking could be a small challenge but it's a great place to hang out if you live in the neighborhood. I hope the place adds more pastries to their menu. Coffee was very good.

Cute little coffee shop with lots of character. Gorgeous sunny spot. The fireplace is a nice touch. Armchairs could do with a clean or be reupholstered. Didn't try the baked goods however they looked great. Please add a savory scone with no ham.. for the vegos. Yum! 1* Downside. Sadly cheesy music is way too loud and on repeat. My ears were crying. Struggled to hear my friend sitting next to me. Ruined the chill morning coffee vibes.

This coffee shop is cozy and spacious. The service was great. The Barista was knowledgeable with the products. The recommendations he gave me were good. Plus, the prices are fair for coffee and a food/snack. I recommend it.

One of things I love about Chicago is the local coffee shops. Portage Grounds offers unique flavored lattes and seasonal specials you can't find anywhere else. Dog friendly patio and cozy seating inside ensures you'll run into the same loyal visitors. Amazing how one small local coffee shop can give a big city that small town feel.

I think it's hard to give any place five stars for food service and atmosphere, but this Cafe seems to have it all. The coffee is great and one of the few places that has bottomless coffee mugs, which I love. It also has a private conference room you can reserve for free. There's a monitor to connect for presentations and an entire whiteboard wall, for whatever use: notes, design, charts Etc. You can also print, there's a printer in the main area. During the summer there is an outdoor seating area that faces the park that is perfect for reading a book, hanging out and bring your dog. Oh yeah, best of all, their bathroom is clean all of the time. That was the game changer for me, LOL.

I was really amazed at how good the coffee tastes. AMAZED!! Very nice, cozy and friendly place. And all the guests pretty much wear Vans, hahah, me as well but for the first time! Definitely going again.

Ill never understand why people come to a SMALL LOCAL business that tries to support its neighborhood with donations and etc and expect 1$ dollar coffee drinks and complain about paying extra for things that are extra at every coffee shop like non dairy alternatives or quality pastries that get sold to the business itself for them to provide to their customers. If you like going to support a small local business, and like to relax/study/work on a patio while drinking a cup of coffee or tea or just coming in for a quick snack then Portage Grounds is for you the atmosphere is great, the baristas are super nice and friendly, they serve passion house drip, espresso, and decaf espresso as well as have delicious pastries from west town bakery everyday and on the weekends (Friday-Sunday) have donuts provided by gurnee donuts

Great little coffee shop, especially in the winter. The cappuccinos are nice and smooth, and they have reading chairs around a fireplace. Need I say more?

Cute coffee shop with some seasonal items and lots of syrups to choose from if you like a sweeter beverage. Nice little fireplace seating and some tables for those who want to work.

neat lil coffee shop across from portage park. they have little index cards when an area has been sanitized. plenty of seats inside n out. they even have a conference room with a white board wall. just with their rolly chairs were bit more functional same with the table

Good number of coffee selections. They do not have a lot of food selections here. When I visited this place, they did have two kinda of quiche (i guess it was frozen) and few muffins and croissants. Their outside seating faces the main road which kinda is disturbing. So if you are someone who needs to sit around a quite environment to focus, this is not the place. Btw, outside seating doesn’t provide outlets to charge devices (Ofcourse!); mentioning this since most of their seating is outside. I am giving 4 stars since this place serves its purpose of serving good coffee.

There were only 2 ladies working and a ton of people coming in. But they handled the orders with efficiency and got everyone on their way.

Enjoyed having a latte and sitting in one of the adirondack chairs on their patio overlooking busy Irving Park. Plus they were sampling some excellent donuts. I recommend.

I liked this place, but it was different than what I expected from the photos. Coffee was good, service was great. Not as spacious as I thought it was. I'd return for the coffee but wouldn't be my pick to work from.

Good coffee and friendly staff, but sky high prices. Almost ten bucks for a small cup of coffee. It's a once in a while place for me.

This Morning I stopped in during the rainstorm. A gentleman named Alec made me the best cinnamon vanilla latte!! He was so positive and happy And wanted to make sure his good vibes rubbed off on me! Thank you for making my Monday morning so Wonderful. Angie

This is a nice place, but the coffee is terrible. The beans are incredibly stale and it shows in the taste. I don't know if they are grinding it ahead of time and storing it or just using really old stock, but it's bad.
