Phenomenal coffee and ambience. Everyone has told me to visit this coffee shop and it did not disappoint. The iced coffee they have on tap is delicious and the specialty barrel aged mocha latte hit the spot. Will be returning soon!

Update: It's a difficult update to make because we've been loyal fans of this shop since it opened. However, they've changed the chocolate they use in their drinks to something that's "homemade". This new chocolate has a flavor profile that makes it undrinkable because it has an over powering sour/bitter taste. My kids don't like the hot chocolate anymore and the iced mochas taste sour. Hopefully they will go back to their old chocolate or at least offer it as an option. Until then it's sadly time to find a new neighborhood spot. Love our neighborhood coffee shop. Always a friendly crew behind the counter. Ample outdoor seating when the weather cooperates. Great drinks and the kids love the hot chocolate.

Really relaxing but vibrant coffee shop! I came here to work and was able to easily get a lot done. The coffee was good although extremely flavorful (almost too much additional non-coffee flavor, too bold), the wifi was fairly fast and the seats were comfortable to sit in for a longer period of time. Would come back, for working or for just a coffee.

Great coffee in an eclectic, upbeat setting. The options were great, spanning many different options for any kind of coffee lover. There wasn’t a ton of seating inside, but don’t forget to check the back patio! I’d definitely go back!

This place is incredible! I had the agave latte and veggie/egg breakfast taco and both were incredible. The agave latte had the perfect amount of sweetness. The taco was huge and kept me full all day. The ambiance inside the place is super cool — art on the walls, light up signage, and canned cold brew for sale just to name a few things. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Chicago.

Heard only good things about this place. So had one of the coffees and left. But after a few sips of it , I had to go back and buy a unicorn blood to take it back home with me

Highly Recommend: coffee drinks here are really good. Have not had a bad drink here yet. They do get busy and for some reason the line sometimes moves really slow at the checkout probably because whoever is at the checkout sometimes pours drinks and gets food right away, but once order is in they make the drink pretty fast.

Really incredible coffee drinks and beans. I've been here twice and been impressed by the cold brewed coffee as well as their milky/sweet coffee drinks. The barrel aged beans were also distinctive, if a little pricey. Great ambiance and color scheme as well.

Awesome outdoor seating, lovely place to sit and do some work. Lots of iPad/laptop/tech types here on a Sunday afternoon. Coffee pretty good, vibe pretty nice, still clinging to the steampunk thing but they seem to still pull it off so kudos to them. Enjoyed coming here will definitely be back.

Excellent coffee - Dark Matter- with delicious quick bites make for a great experience. The staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about the right coffee for you. The place is cozy and is a great spot to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life. I must mention the highlight of the beverage menu: the Mayan mocha. Definitely worth trying one or many more.

love this coffee shop! staff was super helpful and the decor was really cool. i drank the one with ginger and it had a taste i never had before, and not in a bad way! it was more bitter but also smooth with a hint of sweet

Great place. It gets busy fast. After I got in, like 20 people showed up. It looks like they rotate through their flavors, so read the menu. It's really cool looking on the inside and they have a patio out back. All of their coffee looks delicious so I definitively need to come back again.

The coffee and the donuts are good, but I personally really hate the music here. Just don’t come here if you want to read/ work/ focus on anything. The music made me feel like I was at a club instead of a coffee shop.

The staff here is beyond friendly, and their coffee is far above par. I do wish they'd do more of the 'single origin' coffees, but their blends are competitive with any other pour overs I've had in Chicago.

We had the best experience here! It started with the host greeting us and making us feel welcome. It seemed that he was slightly confused because we were asking some fairly odd (odd because they probably should have been obvious!) questions, such as “Is this a coffee shop? Can we sit down?” He took it in stride and realized we didn’t know what we actually walked into.

Great coffee, really wonderful specialty lattes. Will get you the caffeine fix you need, and is a great place to sit and work or pop in for a quick to go coffee! I usually am between the agave latte and the Mayan mocha

The drip coffee had a dark chocolate base taste and smooth texture. There was no dry aftertaste. I couldn’t decipher any other flavors from the profile. So, the dark chocolate alone was the strongest/only flavor. The decor in the cafe is interestingly themed. Seemed like a good place to do work. The coffee was served extremely hot, so be careful!

Good coffee, nice chill place to go to on a weekend morning, though it does get busy. I love the whole vibe going on inside, very bright. They made me a pretty decent cappuccino.

Went here on my birthday. I had a Mayan Mocha Latte, but omg, it was so delicious it had cayenne pepper in it, and that spice paired with it hit differently. I also had a vegan lemon cake or something like that, but that was also delicious. I will be going back soon 😋. Oh and the artwork is a whole vibe 🧿👁 ✨️.

Nice place to grab an iced coffee. Really appreciated the options especially as most places these days only have cold brew. Only negative was that they completely filled the cup with ice. Next time I would definitely ask for lighter ice as I don’t mind a little melt in favor of more coffee.

I go here almost every day to get my iced coffee fix. Super friendly staff and delicious coffee.

Returned a second time and the drip coffee was not as good as the initial time seemed a little watered down. I would still return if in the area. Very, very good coffee. The art inside was amazing and I found an interesting mug and a bag of Dark Matter beans (which I haven't tried yet). The service was very helpful as I stumbled around. I would recommend.

This was one of my stops I had to go to while in Chicago and it didn't disappoint. The staff are friendly and service was excellent. Coffee was fabulous and I just really enjoyed my experience there.

Definitely what you’d call a hip cafe with its own brand. The latte was pretty good but probably not a full 5 star. It was pretty crowded with many people spending time and working there.

Have been getting coffee (and other drinks) for years here, great menu selections, friendly atmosphere and very helpful baristas. Regularly pick up bags of coffee to bring home and give family/friends as gifts. Mentioned I had my dog tied out front and they brought my coffee outside to me so I could wait out there.

One of my favorite local coffee shops has great energy and feel when your enjoying coffee with someone. Dark Matter coffee is so good and they do a fantastic job of creating original coffee drinks!

People blow smoke too much so I'm just going to keep it 100. Is this a good cup of coffee? Without a doubt. However, if you're not a coffee connoisseur then you might not like or appreciate it. In that case, I would go elsewhere.

Excellent coffee. I also tried the old fashioned donuts and those were good too. The artwork on the walls is stunning. Get the barrel-aged mocha, it was super chocolatey and delicious. The gingersnap train wreck was also good but did not satisfy in quite the same way.

Absolutely delicious coffee. If you’re looking for a Starbucks type place, this is not for you. However, if you’re looking for a cool local place with a variety of very fresh beans, you’re in for a treat. Whether you are coming to chill inside, or just grab and go, this branch of Dark Matter does not disappoint. Just make sure you are not parked outside on Belmont during “rush hour” (I have never seen a sign posted mentioning this, but I HAVE gotten a $100 ticket for this whilst running in to grab one of my favorite to-go coffees there - Vanilla Suburbs! Light & tasty nitro, loaded with caffeine, perfect for summer!)

I came here by accident, let me explain. Part of spending more time with the family meant going to places where other people take me, Osmium Coffee Bar, was a gift and a pleasure. First thing's first - I don't care how good your coffee is, if you have bad service - it's a no-go. Quite the opposite at Osmium. AMAZING SERVICE, AMAZING & UNIQUE COFFEE. Caps intended. This place has great vibe and great service and ever better coffee. Treat yourself and stop by if your in the area. 👍👍

Great coffee selection with the finest materials (never felt such a nice coffee sleeve, and organic cane sugar packets). Been buying coffee everyday from variety of independent coffee shops this summer, building up a palate, and the standard dark roast drip coffee here is simple yet features a lot of sophisticated tasting notes (nutty, earthy, vanilla, even a note of miso/slight umami).

In my opinion they make the best cappuccino in Chicago, I don't even have to put sugar in mine. Also, everyone who works there is incredibly pleasant. It is a joy to come to this coffee shop.

At least once a week I make the journey over to Dark Matter to get a bag of coffee. The baristas are wonderful and fun to chat with.

The music here is very nice. Solid Wifi! The iced Chocolate City is easy to recommend.
