It's a very interesting place to visit and the volunteer are good at explaining the different exhibits and the research area is great but it's too small for the exhibits. There really isn't a lot of exhibits about African Americans and their families and contributions to Oak Park. Maybe someone should have contacted the Defender Newspaper and asked if they could borrow articles and pictures about black life in Oak Park since that seemed to be the only newspaper that covered African Americans life through out Oak Park, Riverforest and the United States.

A fun little museum about the history of the community. What a wonderful job they did restoring the fire house! That alone makes it worth the trip but the exhibits are great too.

I have always loved county historical societies for the same reason I love this place: it has an eclectic and wonderful collection of things that, as a whole, tell the story of a community. It is in a cool, former firehouse building too.

Great! Good genealogy or realty resource. Knowledgeable staff and excellent exhibits transcending national subjects to the local level. Amazing building too.

As an avid history enthusiast, I recently stumbled upon the Oak Park River Forest Museum while browsing Pinterest. The intriguing images and captivating descriptions piqued my curiosity, leaving me eager to experience the museum firsthand and discover what it had to offer. Located in the heart of the community, the museum lived up to its promise of being a captivating journey through the history and heritage of Oak Park and River Forest. The exhibits were thoughtfully curated, providing a glimpse into the unique stories and achievements of the local community over the years. Upon entering, I was welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere, with knowledgeable staff members eager to share insights and answer any questions. Their passion for preserving and celebrating the diverse history of the area was evident, adding to the educational value of the visit. While the museum offered a wonderful and enriching experience, I couldn't help but wish for a few more interactive elements or multimedia displays to further engage visitors. Despite this minor aspect, the Oak Park River Forest Museum remains a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of this vibrant community and its rich history. My discovery on Pinterest led to an enjoyable exploration of local heritage, leaving me with a greater appreciation for the area's past.
