The rink was amazing. Only downside is the employees. I came in on December 9th, at around 3pm and the workers were just awful. So very rude and sassy. I went to pay for my skates and put my money on the table in front of her and she didnā€™t take it. I saw there was a sticky not that said to hand the cash to them, so I did and I also apologized for not seeing it (keep in mind it was a small sticky note by her side). Than one of the other coworkers said, yeah itā€™s just rude and annoying in a harsh tone. I get that it may be annoying but being rude and ignoring customers over it is just very unprofessional. They get paid to do this, and I pay to have a good time and honestly the behavior of the employees running the rental skate stand was just sad. Honestly the rudest group of workers I have ever dealt with and they made me feel very unwanted. I than got my skates and went to put them on and one was all knotted up beyond fixing so I went to take them up front and they all knew I was there (since I made eye contact with multiple employees), but just stared at me annoying and blatantly ignored me and continued to play on their phone until I had to ask for new skates. I went skating and it was great. The workers on the ice that covered the holes were friendly. When I finished I went through the other door just to return my skates and they yelled at me and kicked me out and made me walk all around the place to get in, all because I took a different door, yet they donā€™t notice me when Iā€™m waiting at the skate rental booth. Very disappointed.

It was so so. It's like a 30min experience before you're over it. The view is gorgeous. The ice is really really bad.. like dangerously bad. They need to zamboni more frequently. The rental skates are really really terrible. Half of my ice skating blade was not attached to the boot. Also, the staff has really poor manners.

Made a reservation online for 1:30PM Sunday. The email stated to get there at least thirty mins early. We got in line for skates at 1. They gave us wrist bands (without checking our reservation or any proof that we paid) and told us to come back for the skates at 1:15. At 1:15 we came back and got our skates. They had lockers to put shoes in but not nearly enough for the amount of people and didn't have change for a $5 even though the lockers were only $1. We weren't able to get a locker and they gave my husband unsharpened ice skates. After one go around he had to go back and get a new pair. Didn't end up on the ice till about 1:45. Also the man driving the Zamboni hit the wall while on a turn and broke some glass. Seemed unsafe with the amount of children around.

"Skate Rental Weekend" at $20 a person + $2 fee. 1.5 hours slot. Staff at their rental were not so friendly and pretty inpatient. They have a locker (won't lock) for putting your shoes. The ice skates were in rough shape... They said arrive 45 min ahead of your slot starting time, we only arrived 10 min ahead and still got our ice skate in time for the pre-session info announcement and got into the rink on time. It was a fun skating experience! We ever saw people proposing. Will do it again if we are in the area during winter time!

We came to the Ice Rink 2 times already this year and had so much fun. I reserve our spot online and show the barcode to receive our entrance wristbands. We never had to wait in line since we bring our skates. And there is no entrance fee if you bring your skates. Skate rentals prices are fair though. The staff inside the arena looked a bit stressful to me but the staff on the ice are helpful and informative. Skating with an amazing view of The Bean and Michigan Avenue is something everyone should experience!!!

To enjoy the skating experience, be sure to reserve a skate time online. It's free unless you need to rent skates ($16). Unfortunately, their shoe lockers are out of order for the time being. Staff were all really nice and are pretty good skaters.

BAD EXPERIENCE: I made reservations for 7:30pm. I arrived at 6:45pm to make very long line that had people who had reservations and also those who didnā€™t have reservations. I did not get the skates until 8:45pm and was only able to skate for 10 minutes because they started to evacuate everyone at 8:55pm. Iā€™m a tourist with limited time here in Chicago and it just wasnā€™t worth the time ESPECIALLY the night session. Iā€™m requesting for a refund and hoping that it will be honored given that it was not my fault. They are allowing for people to make reservations without having enough skates to accommodate people.

2 stars because you need to make a reservation to skate! We're from out of town, hauling kids and ice skates. We walked several blocks, stood in a long line to be searched, then to be told we can't skate without a reservation. I did research to make sure the rink was operational. You need to dig a bit to find you need a reservation. This must be a new rule as this wasn't true in the past.

Some of those ladies are rude and sassy. No greeting, just ā€œdo you have a reservation.ā€ We had an 11AM appointment the first one open to Public. We arrived at 10AM. One employee denied us skates, but another one was realistic and gave us skates ā€” they had already let another family begin prepping. The skates are OK. Note that the lockers do not work! So donā€™t bring anything you too valuable down there. The skating was fun, and overall worth it for the price. Next time I am going to the Maggie Daley Ribbon!

We are a family of nine. Of course, not average but it is ours. We came from out of town. It was our 6yr old daughterā€™s birthday, we decided on skating as one of the many things we did while in Chicago. I cannot believe how incredibly RUDE the staff at the skate rental/check in was, ESPECIALLY the females!!!!!!!!!!!! Although we made a reservation and pre paid ā€¦.I have never in my life been treated so awful, extremely disrespectful towards myself, my husband, my teens and toddlers. Not to mention, three of our children are TODDLERS, we also have one DISABLED teenā€¦when making a reservation, the ā€œpenguinā€ skate assist should have been offered. We were UNABLE to PURCHASE ANY, none available!!!!! Of course that would have cost us an extra 40$/10$ per penguinā€¦..but we would have been more than happy to pay to insure our children were safe and able to actually skateā€¦nope!!!!!!!ā€¦..ADULTS actual adults out there on the ice with penguins but NOT our CHILDREN, Unbelievable!!!!! Our toddlers and disabled teen did NOT stay on the ice. My husband (whom was also pre paid to skate) had to stay off the ice with our belongings and not skate AT ALL due to lockers being ā€œunavailableā€/ā€œnot workingā€, something we should also have been aware of, who leaves NINE pairs of shoes, purses, and such just laying under benches in the city of Chicago, crazy to me!!!!!!! I would never ever ever return to this skate rink!!!! I will absolutely be calling to insist some type of refund/compensation as we did pay 198$ to enjoy something that was absolutely terrible and extremely disappointing, our birthday girl was in tears ā€¦customer service and hospitality nothing but ZEROS from us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whomever owns this park should 100% reconsider the front staff that is suppose to make you feel welcome, they are nothing even close to welcomingā€¦..they must be the rudest and most unfriendly individuals I have ever encounteredā€¦literally!!!!!!!!!! Another FYIā€¦.being a mom of six I have NEVER taken this much timeā€¦. MY TIME to write this type of review ,but unfortunately in this situation, I feel it is an absolute MUSTā€”very very unhappy mother!!!!!

What an amazing experience. This was the first time I was ice skating and it took a while to get the hang of it but it was super fun. The activity is free if you bring your own skates or you can rent it on their website. The slot is for 1.5 hours which is good enough to enjoy the activity as well as the ambience. It was a perfect date and the Christmas lights were just like the cherry on the top. Go for it once!!

Millennium Park is a must visit. The urban scape is just amazing..the way pedestrians circulation is intermixed with vehicular circulation is worth praising.

If you want an ice rink, this is definitely an option. The staffers we're quite young and it felt a little gross walking into the lobby. The ice was very torn up so it wasn't smooth sailing, but they do go over it to smooth it out at some point. The lockers were 'not available' so they told me to just put my shoes on top of the lockers with everyone else's stuff. I went on a Wednesday around 5:30 and it was packed.

Very popular tourist attraction. Lot & lot of people keep pouring in this park. The view in this globe is amazing. It is spherical structured with a space in central part where people can cross over. Very good photograph on this sit. At Michigan avenue Chicago US

The staff, especially a male one with an earring and black hair, spent their time performing tricks, weaving dangerously amongst amateur paying customers. They skated dangerously close to my friend and I multiple times. Also they sold too many tickets and the rink was overly full.

When i stepped in the ice it felt smooth and soft. They provide trainer for kids that donā€™t know how to skate.

Lovely way to spend time in the park. Brought my own skates(saved a bundle only $5 for the pair at a thrift shop) which saved me from having to wait in line to get rentals. Much quieter on weekdays, I hear the weekends are packed. Perfectly maintained rink, thanks My Zambonii! I come back every year with friends to enjoy this Chicago classic after some mulled wine at Kriskringlemarket. They even have skatewalker things for the kids to learn how to skate! 10/10 will be back.

Really neat place with terrific city views. Only issue is with the skate rental. Complete garbage. Had to exchange several times. Kids finally just gave up. Hot a resale shop and buy your own skates.

Rentals are $20 with a $2 processing fee if you bring your own skates itā€™s 0 but you have to reserve slot online even if you bring your own skates. Night time is the best because thereā€™s barely any people. Ice is EXTRA slippery when itā€™s raining.

Price to rent skates have gone up a lot, there are no more benches indoors to change into skates (all outside except for built-in small bench by restrooms) and the rink has parts of edges bumpy or going down into the ground that make it dangerous. Glad they still offer free admission for people with their own skates though

Make sure you get reservations ahead of time to be able to skate on busy days! I was a little disappointed the skates for men only go up to size 12 (my boyfriend was unable to skate and we had to sell his ticket because there are no refunds offered). The rink is a pretty good size for a public rink and they Zamboni the ice after each session. The skates are pretty uncomfortable and I would bring an extra pair of socks to change into because the skates are wet. A fun event in Chicago for sure but only 4 stars because of the skate sizes and comfortability.

Beautiful place to skate in downtown Chicago. If you can pre buy tickets. The after dark skates are the most crowded. You can park at the garage and walk right out into the rink. There are two rinks. Pictures are from the Michigan Avenue rink.

Skate sharpening is a rip off. I got my skates sharpened and one was still blunt. I brought it back a few days later and they charged me again to reshapen saying they cant sharpen for free. Sure but they can get it right the first time so I don't have to pay twice for their incompetence. And the lady had an attitude to boot like I was looking for a handout.

I love this rink! It is well staffed (they had several trained employees on the rink), located nicely, and not too expensive. My only negative was that you have to sit outside to try on skates, meaning that you have to put your shoes back on and walk a bit to exchange skates if you need a different size. It just makes it take a little longer to get on the ice. Other than that, it was a great time!

Beautiful setting, great ice rink, appalling staff. Family did skating. I tried but the rudeness of the counter staff and abrupt attitude when my son was taking a penguin (you have to pay to use those in this country.... very un helpful for beginners), he was loudly berated about having not paid. The counter staff member then went behind the desk and rapped on with his mates. In short, no service skills at all.

In the shadow of Cloud Gate, the Millenium Park Ice Rink is the place for ice skating in Chicago. It's a great place to see and be seen! One of my favorite places to photograph the beautiful people of Chicago.

purchased tickets online for the night time. Had an unfortunate emergency where we got robbed and my wallet was stolen. Went the next day in the morning to ask if I could please use my tickets the next day.. the manager said no. I knew a refund wasnā€™t possible, but the park wasnā€™t even at full capacityā€¦ Manager couldā€™ve definitely made the experience better.

It's a great rink in a great area but the rental skates are old and worn and the staff is always in a rush. Bring your own skates and you'll have a good time.

  • 3/5 Curtis E. 1 year ago on Google
Reallyyyy bad ice quality at night. You must go at the first rink time of the day to get some decent, safe ice to work with. Appreciate that they offer blade sharpening services but wonā€™t be going here if I canā€™t get to the first ice time. At one of their night sessions this week they didnā€™t even use the zamboni they just went into sessions back to back.
