Read every 1 and 2 star review on this page and you'll see Uptown Fitness conned EVERY SINGLE ONE out of money. They have 4 formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau. They cannot pretend for a second (as the owner's replies assert) that they are upfront about their contracts or billing. They do not properly document phone calls and cannot be trusted to uphold anything that isn't explicitly documented in writing. Nobody wants that experience from a gym, and I wouldn't expect that kind of treatment from my doctor, bank, or insurance company, let alone a gym. My partner's 1-year prepaid membership expired. When the gym tried to bill his expired credit card to renew the membership as month-month, he indicated that he wanted to cancel his membership. Jackie said she would cancel the membership. A month later, Jackie called back to demand two months of "late payment" and claimed no memory of the previous phone call and said she made no record of it at the time. She also refused to cancel the membership until the new fees had been paid. After speaking to the manager and explaining the situation the next day, he was still forced to pay $70 (two months membership) because of hearsay with the first attendant. This isn't a mistake. As of today exactly 25% of their google reviews make the same claim. The gym knows exactly what they are doing. They extort their members, make false statements, do not keep proper records, and rely on loopholes built into their contract to squeeze as much money as possible out of unsatisfied members who try to leave. Do not deal with Uptown Fitness, and warn your peers if they are considering signing up. This incident will be reported to the BBB and I encourage any future reviewers to do the same with their own issues.

If you have the curiosity how hot hell can be, you should subscribe to this gym. they always have problem with AC. Previous summer and today when it's 90゚ outside it's ridiculous. looking for another GYM where the facility are more comfortable and better customer service than this one

Have had an overall poor experience with former world gym, now uptown fitness in this location. They use very unpleasant guerilla tactics to get you to sign up which leaves you with a bad feeling of being pressured into signing up. As a member I have found that while the gym is decently equipped, the classes that I was most interested in, take place in an open space rather than a secluded room. As a consequence, you have class in the middle of machines and people working out/passing through, the temperature is poorly controlled, and the sessions that are a little more calm like yoga loose most of their essence since there is sound pollution and very hard to detach from the general gym environment. They should really have a separate space for the classes. The biggest complaint is that they outsource their payments to third party system called ASF INTERNATIONAL which is briefly put awful. If you look them up you'll see they have terrible reputation for customer care. It's very hard to get out of the contract or to deal with them even after cancellation takes place as they keep posting charges that are difficult to contest. It's a very poor practice to be using these types of companies and I feel it's an important factor to be aware of when you consider signing up. Please be very careful with your contract and read the small print, you cannot cancel online but need to follow specific procedures even as your contract is month to month (such as mine was). I finally got out (I hope!) of the contract and overall had a negative experience with this gym. I think it can be better for others if they are very careful signing up and negotiating the contract.

Shocked at the dishonesty of this place. I had to sign a year-long contract to join. Ok, fine, lots of gyms do that now. BUT. I called about two months before the year was up to make sure that my membership would NOT renew. A staff member told me that she would place a note on my account to make sure the membership did not roll over. At the end of my year-long contract, I was surprised when my monthly dues were again withdrawn from my account. I called THAT SAME DAY and explained the mistake. I was told an employee with the billing department would follow up with me. Long story short, they called back after the weekend and informed me that my membership had automatically renewed. I did not receive any kind of notice that this was taking place - no email, no text/call - nothing. I explained that Id called in advance and requested my membership not be renewed. I was told that, since I did not have the name of the staff member I’d spoken with, they couldn’t help me. The billing department employee told me she would “see what she could do” and call me back. Never called back, and I was never refunded the money. So as far I’m concerned, this gym literally STOLE MY MONEY. From the start, the staff was pushy and unhelpful, but I was honestly surprised they’d stoop this low. If you’re looking for a gym in the area, join XSport. I joined after I left here, and the pricing is similar, they’re 24 hours, no year long contracts required, and (hopefully) they’re not thieves. Also, Xsport is a MUCH nicer, newer gym. Uptown Fitness was easily THE WORST gym experience I’ve ever had. Update: After posting this review, I received an extremely rude email from the gym essentially stating that the contract includes automatic rollover of membership and that I was at fault for not reading the terms more carefully. The fact that an employee explicitly told me that, per my request, my contract WOULD NOT renew was ignored. The email also told me that I would be refunded the amount I was charged for the extra month. This NEVER HAPPENED. I’m not sure what else I can say to illustrate how dishonest and unprofessional the management of this gym is.

1 YEAR UPDATE: I left. They didn’t change or improve anything. 6 MONTH UPDATE: Free weights are still never organized by staff. Most of the time you see everybody working there sitting at the front desk when you come in. Also I’ve mentioned to them about broken equipment (treadmills) and lack of cleaning spray anywhere and neither item has been addressed/fixed. On the positive side you can always get on the equipment you want to even if it’s busy. Original Review Overall it’s a decent place for the price and not much waiting around for equipment. They have so much stuff stuck in the gym it’s hard to walk around and I’ve found stuff that’s broke that hasn’t been taken out of service or marked. They don’t go around and keep the weights organized (see picture). Also the guest passes are a joke, just throw them out. You can’t take someone more than once or a friend from out of town. Chicago is a place my friends would like to visit. I’ve never seen so many restrictions on one. Might as well not even have them. The person that signed me up didn’t inform me of any of the restrictions on the guest passes and was like “here you and your buddy can come together a few more times”

My husband has called and emailed dozens of times over the course of two months to cancel his membership and hasn't received a single response or acknowledgement. They currently have no voicemail or answering service on their advertised phone line. Meanwhile, in the midst of the pandemic, the gym is closed—but STILL CHARGING MEMBERSHIP FEES. So they are unreachable and unusable, but still charging for their services. We had to contest charges with the bank in order to recoup our cash. Also, the facilities smell like sweaty underwear.

Take a tour of the facility before committing to a membership and be detail oriented. Don't be afraid to try out the equipment you know you will use the most often. From my experience, a lot of the workout items are missing or broken. The bikes on the second level have missing pedal straps which make it hard to bike properly. The dumbbells are never where you expect them to be and sometimes without a pair. They are also missing dumbbell weights you would expect to have in a set (they had one set of 5 lb dumbbells for the whole gym). The medicine balls are sometimes in their normal spot, often not, which makes it hard to have a consistent workout from one day to the next. I went searching one day for the 6 lb medicine and it was literally no where in the gym- I even asked the front desk staff. PROS - Sauna and steam room- so nice for the winter months. Fitness class staff are really kind and get you excited about working out. There is a large wooden platform with mats and balls you can do your own workout routines without feeling crowded. Access to the 'posing pool' on the rooftop of the apartment building just east of the fitness center. Available during the summer months but only on weekdays and no holidays. The facility is also very sterile- they clean the floors everyday (not sure about the equipment) Convenience rather than quality convinced me to try out a membership here. I paid cash after hearing some of the stories from other reviewers getting charged after their membership was cancelled. Consider negotiating the cost of your membership. The staff is not a problem here- all of them I've interacted with are kind and helpful and you often see them working out throughout the day. I blame the business owners lack of responsibility to properly maintain equipment and an assumed disregard to listening to customer suggestions (they do have a suggestion box I tried using as an outlet but to no avail). I ultimately decided to take my money and business elsewhere.

I think people only publish bitter complaints on here! I have been a member here for 7 years. I have seen them consistently add new machines, replace and upgrade equipment and keep up with the times. The trainers I have met there are friendly. It is an amazing price! I rarely see a broken machine. So what do you want from a gym? My friends pay double and triple what I pay - and for what? A little bigger gym perhaps? I don't know. I think World Gym on Montrose is a great deal and a very good gym.

Frequented this gym for about 3 years cause I live basically right next to it. Always thought it was just fine. I don't need a gym with the best everything, just something of everything. Had very few complaints until I tried to cancel my membership when they continued to charge my card through the pandemic. I get it, they still have expenses, but refusing to return my calls or emails reeks of greed and sliminess. A friend of mine had a similar experience when he tried to cancel last year, pre-pandemic. They continued to charge him for months after he cancelled. Do not give these people your money.

I very much enjoyed going to this gym as it was in such a convenient location close to where I live. That is...until the pandemic happened. It seems that they just closed out of nowhere - providing absolutely no updates to members on when or if they would reopen (and from what I'm seeing it looks like I'm not alone). My card last got charged at the end of April but since then, I haven't seen any charges pop up so this hasn't been an issue for me. I've attempted to get in touch with the owners to verify that my membership got cancelled but the phone line is completely deactivated. Meaning there's no way to get in touch with anybody on phone or online. Really disappointed...

While I was a member of the gym, I can rate the service at good-great...I love their classes, I was treated nicely by the front desk and found the facilities fine. The poor service came when I had to jump through hoops to get out of the contract upon my move. Connie in their Corporate office completely lacks customer service and seemed bothered to be working in a position where she must explain accounts to customers. Overall, the gym is a great solution as long as you have the intention of riding the contract all the way through.

🫤 I've been a member of Planet Fitness for a while, and while the gym itself is nice and the staff are generally friendly and helpful, the chronic issue of the gym not opening on time has become a major frustration. 🫤 You get what you pay for. There’s no AC, pretty dirty everywhere, machines are constantly broken, treadmills are from 1992. They took away all dumbbells. It’s bizarre that a gym doesn’t have dumbbells available. No hair dryer in the locker room. Most of the members are ignorant, they don’t wipe mach...
