Such a fantastic atmosphere! Very romantic and elegant. They had a live DJ and his music was FIRE! The drinks were very delicious but everything was a little pricey. The service was pretty slow for even a Friday night.

Well this place is just fantastic. Totally stumbled accros the place when walking by, and boy did it not disappoint. We only visited the library so I can't comment on the dance spot above. The library is dimly lit with fantastic bartenders, not just do they know there drinks but they are a lot of fun. Some of the signature cocktails come in a variety of clever forms. From a flask in a book to an ice cube with dyed images. Be sure to try them out. During the evening every 30 mins a mini performance is put on and this while strange is a lot of fun. So with all that said just make sure you go and check this place out.

I dont have words to explain how this place was and what an amazing time we had there. We celebrated our friends proposal there and we were party of 10. They served us really really welll, ordered bunch of drinks but our fav were old fashioned, mr fox, rose garden. Cheese platter was stsr of the night in terms of appetizer! Loved everything the setting, vibe and special thanks to catelyn our amazing server. Thanks again!

Edit: I've returned a few times and never had the previous issue again! Great service, awesome entertainment, and drinks were spectacular as always. So happy! I wish I could give more stars! Showed up on time for a reservation and the host was on a call for 10 minutes before informing us it was a further 20 minute wait for our table. We were seated an hour later. We waited in a restaurant across the street. Otherwise the entertainment was lovely and the ambiance very charming. Drinks were delicious and the food was tasty. Will probably try to go there again and amend my review of the reservation system improves.

Love this place!!! Staff is very friendly. Drinks are good; my favorite is the secret garden but also liked the red bull cocktail. The library is a cute gem with a huge scrabble board, tons of books, little shows/acts, fireplace, and an intimate atmosphere that I do prefer over the ballroom.

This review is for The Library: The Darling is quite the experience. An excellent selection of curated cocktails, periodic performances, and an atmosphere that's warm & inviting. Take a date (order a beautiful bouquet for the table), or impress some friends or business clients. With the right company, you can't go wrong! The only people this wouldn't be for is anyone who enjoys a lively, rowdy and raucous environment. Or anyone who doesn't feel like spending $14+ for a cocktail. It's certainly worth the money, but that's why it's best for a special occasion.

I recently visited the Darling and I was so excited to finally see these little greenhouses up close and personal. I made reservations, I liked the text confirmation and the women at the front desk was very nice. The actual greenhouses on the rose garden are small I’d suggest 2 people 3 max. The food was SOOOOO DISAPPOINTING. I loved the contactless options but the food was so plain and not up to par with their pricing. They gave us NO UTENSILS OUR CUPS WERE CHEAP DOLLAR STORE QUALITY AT $15 a drink. We didn’t even get napkins. I was so disappointed the desert rose drink was PURE ICE UP THE THE RIM OF THE PITCHER. THE darling sandwich was so dry and a dry price of bread. I recommend going there for a drink for the Instagram picture but eat elsewhere. I wouldn’t go back

I had unique fun experience in the library with a very cool performance. The staff were friendly. The food was average- It’s definitely not a dinner spot but I enjoyed snacking while catching up with friends and enjoyed the performance.

Perfect location to grab cocktails and appetizers. The cocktails were very unique but phenomenal. The darling buds of winter was the group favorite out of all the cocktails we tried. Highly recommend the vegetarian beignets as well. Definitely would come back here for the cocktails; however not so much for the appetizers

The ambience is night. We made reservations for 8:30 pm and placed an order for drinks but it came after 45 mins as they had issues with the system. There was a live performance as well which was 🔥. Very less veg food options. Mushroom fries and cauliflower was good. The gnocchi wasn’t good at all. The drinks were okay. Overall a good place.

I dislike the fact that your employees are working about three jobs and they are getting paid for one please fix this and I know your food is good but you wouldn’t want to get bad reviews 😘🧚‍♀️

The Darling is a great place to come to for some solid craft cocktails and light bites before dinner on the town. We've only sat in 'The Library' section and it's always been wonderful. It's a cozy, dim lit lounge with wonderful drinks, a great vibe and a few surprises. We'll for sure be back!

What a great find! We greatly enjoyed "The Library" seating with all the hidden benefits, great service and unique drinks. Currently, the extended seating outside seems like a bonus on the cooler parts of the day.

It's a hidden gem in Chicago. A beautiful, romantic destination for couples and hangouts with friends. The food is delicious with antique leather couches to sit on. Highly recommend!!

Beautiful atmosphere and tasteful food. But why should I have to ask, not once but twice, where my order is. And ironically after some lazy excuse it comes out a minute later. Sounds more like they forgot - I cook at home a meatball isn’t just “taking longer than usual”. If they didn’t set up the system to leave an automatic gratuity of 20% I would have tipped what the service was. 10%. Not happy!!

Beautiful place. Good drinks and food. But: We was on the Ballroom and had table 19. Table? That was a bar, with so small space to put the dishes and glasses. So uncomfortable(( and we waited for all orders so long. For the gnocchi we had to spoons different sizes)))

Went here for double date. The mobile order app was good in theory but horrible in practice. Ended up waiting at our table 30 minutes without anyone checking in, only to learn they had not "received our drink order". Give me in-person service 10/10 times. Also, mandatory 20% gratuity when we didn't see a single waiter for 2 hours? There are a lot better options out there, I get the appeal but would skip this one.

The library is my favorite part of this spot! I love the dark ambiance and the performers! They have a decent menu. We ordered the Vegan Spring Sweet Potato Gnocchi and pizza! The drink Fantastic fox was a bit bitter! The 18% gratuity was automatically charged. Minus a star since It was a bit hard to get the servers attention since every interaction is made through the app in terms of ordering food.

Lovely new spot in Chicago; consists of a large upper floor with a central bar and lots of comfy seating groups and an evening DJ. There is also a smaller speakeasy on the main floor that benefits from making reservations as it's a more intimate affair with several couches and large armchairs. The Darling books some of the best local Chicago talent with performers like Brooklyn Britches and Eva la Feva and I was generally impressed by the performance space which surprised me from where it came from. I don't want to spoil it but I recommend sitting at or near the bar for the best view for a show. Great drink options that are priced about normal for a venue of its caliber ($14 for cocktails) creative but not overwrought in terms of flavor. I greatly enjoyed the Botanical Bees Knees and the Mary Poppins. I hope to try out the large format drinks eventually. Loved the complimentary vegetable chips and prosecco mini shot, both were delicious touches. And the pork belly was impeccable. Slightly disappointed in the coconut Creme Brule which was a bit muddled in flavor but great consistency. The service here was another area of excellence with great phone and in person service from Dylan in particular. Very friendly staff and loved the outfits. Only minor technical nitpicks for the venue itself would be a more robust sound system for singing performances but definitely not a concern for the average guest.

Cool place with solid drinks and bartenders. The patrons were a bit pushy and snooty tho.

  • 3/5 Jacqueline R. 4 years ago on Google
The staff was really unorganized and we didn't know where to go to sit for our reservation our party was separated due to our rsvp not being read. The drinks were very salted and based the price and location I was expecting better. The door men were publicly arguing in front of patrons which I think is unprofessional. I am giving it a three because bars/clubs aren't typically my scene, so I am giving this place the benefit of the doubt. I am sure all-star weekend and Valentine's day weekend probably didn't make the situation better. However, the level of service at other places located in the West Loop area I expect a superior level of service. Had this been my event I would have given this place a one star. Based on the reasons listed above I don't think I would ever come visit this establishment on my own, much less recommend this to a friend.

Supreme place. It competes with Vu Lounge as one of the better nighttime lounges to meet a diverse and sophisticated crowd in Chicago. Lines are unusually long but it’s worth it though. Dress nice or you’ll be found wanting.

For 30 something yuppies who want to spend a bit too much on a basic cocktail they waited too long for. Or for those who want no dance floor and to be able to see everyone in the entire bar.

saturday night in the 1st floor at The darling was a great time, the place is really nice, romantic atmosphere, great coktails and food. second floor is more crowded with sofa and central bar, 2 different ambiance depending on what you want

The performances are only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. We went on a Sunday but still had a lovely early dinner and cocktails. The crispy rice and tuna was out of this world delicious! Service was excellent too. Very friendly and accommodating. Definitely plan to go back during the performance hours sometime!

This is one of the worst restaurant I have been visiting in Chicago. I chose this place because of reviews and pictures. Please take a look at the real pictures from customer like me with my smartphone. (Not professional camera for advertising) Do not order food or hot alcohol drink. It is pricey and serve u worse than a fast-food Cafe. Hot alcohol serve u in a coffee cup, What a joking! for the price they charge

They are really taking all the precautions. The place is very nice and the people in there are very friendly.

Outside little plastic hut looks cute, but too small, unlike other restaurants no heat supplied in hut so very cold, menu limited delivered like carry out but food was hot. I was disappointed in nonalcoholic drink offers especially no hot one, and food, but maybe it is me and I don't like English pub food.

One of the snazziest lounges I've seen in Chicago so far. Temp checks, mask wearing, social distancing tents, phone ordering are all simple and effective methods of reducing risk in these *uncertain* times. The drinks are strong too, which may not kill the virus but definitely makes it easier to live with.

  • 3/5 Zachary 3 years ago on Google
Many of the employees here seem to be frozen in fear by “trendy” virus regulations. The owner’s Virus protocol is over the top ridiculous, to the point where it negatively affects the entire experience. It’s such a contrast between this restaurant and restaurants in the suburbs. If you need to feel “safe” and don’t mind slow service, cold food and the impersonal feel, then this spot is for you. Sad, to waste such a beautiful space. They make a good Old Fashioned, just wish their approach to the “new normal” was a little more old fashioned.

Really cute place for fancy drinks and small plates. Love, love the ambience and attention to details. We sat outside in the Rose Garden. I look forward to checking out the entire restaurant, when COVID permits.

Where to start! We were in the Rose Garden. Totally adorable outdoor "green houses". The staff was amazing especially during this pandemic. There touchless system was awesome. There drinks were to die for! Great selection of reds by the glass and my husband had a Japenese old fashion. Now I am not a fan of old fashions but this was great. Music was fantastic. And the food was delightful. A decent amount if vegetarian options. We will go back!!

I love the Darling and support them 100 percent. Chicago is under a pandemic so you aren't going to get as many food options and they cant seat as many people. Please support them and one day we can all enjoy it when it goes back to normal.
