This place is a perfect 5 stars! The food is very unique and deeeelicious! Our server was very friendly and incredibly attentive. I ordered the smothered chicken omelet; an omelet with a layer of cheese inside and topped with fried chicken thighs and an amazing savory gravy on top. Holy cow even though there was no beef! A person in my group ordered the sausage omelet. The gravy on top was incredible; this was my favorite dish among our group! Lastly, another person in our group ordered half-orders of banana French toast and blueberry French toast; both were amazing. You’ve gotta treat yourself to this amazing restaurant!

This place was one of the best breakfast places I’ve ever eaten at. The ambience was nice when I went right after opening and I could tell that the employees really enjoyed working there. The server was incredibly nice and helpful, assisted me pick out food I really liked, and was attentive and fun. The food was incredible, undoubtedly fresh and homemade. I was so full and yet could not stop eating. I brought my friends within the hour because of how good it was; they cleaned their plates too. Just amazing food and service!

The atmosphere, service, and food were absolutely top-notch!! They came highly recommended, and they lived up to it for sure. I just hate that I couldn't physically eat more than I could...🤣😂🤣 You absolutely have to try the French Toast. I had the Caramel French Toast and My God!!! Yes, Jesus loves me!!! Lol Everything was so good. The Catfish and honey based Hot sauce... 😋 👌🏾 😍 Stop in and get you some! I could talk all day, but yeah...go on by...

The place is somewhat over-hyped in my opinion. Personally I don't like the taste of hot sauce and all food over powered with hot sauce even the spicy mayo. The super French toast flight was ok-ish. Also I felt the food is a bit over priced. The cheese sandwich is a bit over charred. I don't think that I am going there again.

Outstanding waffles and French toast with very friendly service. French toast flight comprised four pieces: a blue berry one, a strawberry one, a lemon one and caramel. Yum yum good. Fried chicken with sweet potato waffles a light sauce combined perfectly. Best Fried Chicken and waffles I have ever had. The sauce and sweet potato waffle (instead of traditional) make the difference. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Next time we will try the lamp chops that looks delicious

What a breakfast experience! First of all, service takes centre-stage here with great engagement, including regular riddles. We were convinced to get the super flight which was a sweet treat. Chicken waffles was a bit heavy and the chicken was on the drier side but altogether it was still a good breakfast!

The food was delicious and seasoned well. I highly recommend the French toast flight! It's great to share with a group. The catfish was great. The menu mouth watering. It's a small place with a huge heart. It's so inviting and warm. The service was wonderful including the host.

Let’s just start with us finding a way to order three different meals. (Thank you Nadine- our server!) loved the service here and the food is truly amazing. We definitely waited an hour to eat but it was worth it. It’s BYOB which is great (we didn’t bring any). The only thing I will say is I’m so accustomed to DC brunches with music and people naturally being loud that this brunch spot seemed very quiet and chill. If you want somewhere more “lit”, then go somewhere else but for food and service, batter and berries.

Popular eatery. They accept reservations but do not hold them endlessly. So the wait will not be as long as they say if you do not have one. BYOB. So bring the prosecco to accompany your freshly squeezed juice .Signature flight of French toast is exceptional. They also offer a weekly special that rotates our. Today's was a Rum Butter Cake ( pictured) Staff is genuine and friendly. I highly recommend this spot. Skip the biscuits in gravy, you may be disappointed.

We went to this neighbor breakfast place with my out of town guests around 10:30am on a Saturday. The hostess in front, Jeremiah was extremely unfriendly and border line rude. When asking if it was our turn (the app shows we are next and he told us to wait outside). When I finally got the text, we went inside and we followed him to the table and I was smiling back at him and saying thank you. He/She gave me the up and down look. Totally rude. Our waitress Tim on the other hand was super friendly. I ordered the crab cakes Bennie that came with cheesy hash brown and without asking he brought me the hot sauce as if he could read my mind. He also recommended the peach cobbler French toast which was a seasonal menu item and that was the last they served it. It is delicious according to my guest. The grilled cheese sandwich had too much bread and not enough cheese. It was just so so. The crab cakes are good. Overall IMO, the wait is too long for the quality of the food. I would not wait for an hour again just to eat here.

Was in Chicago for the first time, along with my Mom and sister for two concerts. We came here for brunch and had the absolute pleasure of being waited on by Tim! He's truly a nice guy; he's very personable, has amazing energy, & provides exceptional service! Had the banana waffle, sausage omelet, and fruit! Everything was so good and fresh! Also the music, atmosphere, & vibes were on point!! Will definitely make this a go-to whenever I'm in town again!

Literally every time I come to Chicago this is my first morning spot! The service is superb!! Candice B took such great care of us! She was so attentive and had such a positive attitude which made our experience wonderful! I would suggest coming right when they open they usually have a wait. However we were seated right away! The food is always hot and fresh! I wish I could get 12 stars!!!

I went in maybe thinking this place might be over-hyped because the line is insane, but it's not. The french toast is really that good. The staff is amazing and in such good spirits. The service is good. The food delicious. Although, my poached eggs was definitely overcooked. Would totally recommend this place.

Food AND service where EXEMPLARY! We joined the waitlist, which was an hour. We waited close by at a great coffee shop. Once seated our food was delivered hot and AMAZING in less than 15 minutes. The server and his riddles were a great bonus to a great experience. This place was HIGHLY recommended and now I understand why! All love for Batter and Berries!

From a breakfast junkie, this is my new favorite breakfast spot in Chicago. The dishes were very unique soul food takes on bfast with a homemade feel. The service was top notch. Every person working there really cared about their job and the end product they were producing and it showed. Amazing food and amazing staff. Definitely check this place out, worth the wait!

Any time I'm in Chicago, Batter & Berries is an absolute MUST. I am never disappointed by the food or service. Best French toast I've ever had. I always get the super flight to try the French toast of the week as well as a special for the week. Shout out to Kari, you're a star! The server was great. He was very informative of what they are known for…French Toast. We got the flight of them. Loved the pecan, blueberry, and strawberry French toast the best. The sweet potato fries were great, but I wasn’t crazy about my wrap. But breakfast they have on lock. It was a fun atmosphere and it could be noisy. Plenty of photo opportunity.

Hold on a second. If you are in the area this is a must. We drove down from highland Park and from the moment we walked in the to the end of the meal we taken care of with top notch service. The food. Wow. I would put the drunken chicken as one of the best things I have ever had, just wow, give me a vat of the house made bbq sauce and let me live my life without judgement... my wife and kids we're also more than pleased with their selection as well. This is a must stop while in the the city and it's on the way to the zoo (bonus)!

stunning service. the servers and management are all attentive and incredibly friendly. they have a ton of weekly specials that rotate. apparently the french toast is the biggest attraction here; we got some savory dishes, though — just phenomenal. the bourbon chicken omelet has large peppers and incredible sauce. the biscuits and gravy is so good. the gravy is buttery and rich. the scrambled eggs came out PERFECT with just a little bit of run that residually cooked on the plate (5 stars — most places overcook scrambled eggs). will 100% be back to try more dishes.

If you're ever in Chicago you MUST visit. It's a small space so get there early or else you'll be waiting in line to be seated. The food is🔥🔥 We enjoyed every dish... but the French toast were delectable. Also you can BYOB, which I would highly recommend. Staff was professional, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.

Make sure you have an appetite coming here. Portions are well worth the price. I advise you to make a reservation because you will be on the waiting list and will have to go sit in your car like me and my lady did until your reservation is ready. I ordered the traditional with 2 eggs OM cheesy hashbrowns and substitute pork sausage for chicken sausage. The server told about a white chocolate French toast special for the New Years so ordered a half order as well. My woman got the grilled cheese sandwich with 4 cheese and fries.

Let me tell ya'll something, best food I have had hands down in the brunch arena. The chicken alfredo omelets might seem weird but let me tell you it is so worth it. If it is your first time going here I suggest you get the super flight of the French toast and something off the specialty menu because it was amazing. Don't even bother asking for syrup because you don't need it, they infuse their butter with it. Please go eat here and do yourself a favor.

If you heard good things they are TRUE! It's a long wait so join the wait list on yelp early if you can. You can also take a walk and find something to do before your table is ready. It's worth the wait and perfect portions served (good things come to those who wait LOL). The staff are very friendly too and the food is ... like delicious but... BETTER!

Was grinning from ear to ear the whole meal. Eating here just makes you happy. Would recommend the eggs benny and the fries. God, I don’t know what they do to those fries but it works. The caramel french toast was lovely as well. Will definitely be paying another visit next time I’m in Chicago. ♥

The french toast lives up to its reputation. I got a Super Flight which includes the French Toast flavor of the week as well. This week's flavor was cookie butter. It was delicious. Definitely don't skip a side of cheese crusted hash browns as they were the most amazing thing I've put in my mouth. Fast service. Expect to wait or put your name on the list online. It is worth the wait.

Just a joy to be here and have some of the good food that Chicago is famous for! B&B IS NO EXCEPTION! From beginning to end, it was worth every penny!!! The empty plate in the pics was a delicious flight of French toast. Flavors bursting with lemon, egg nog (oh, Lord), strawberry, blueberry, and maple, we smashed that first and in record time! It was a taste of heaven mixed with a touch of love. Our waiter was just the best ever! We could've adopted him as our new best friend! We were offered refills of robust coffee as well as cups to go. This establishment is proudly black-owned. The owner came to every table and shared with us that he hoped we had more than just a good food experience but a happy one. And, we did!!!

I came here to enjoy a birthday lunch. It was amazing. I had a new menu item that did NOT disappointment. It was a sweet potato waffle with fried chicken bites inside of the batter with a fried chicken thigh on top covered in a nutmeg hot sauce. I know the hot sauce sounds like it’ll be nasty but TRUST me it was delicious! And you won’t need syrup because the waffle is sweet enough. It has a great balance with the sweetness of the waffle and the maple butter. The cheeses hash browns were delicious as well. 10/10 recommend. However sometimes parking is a zoo especially on the weekends, I however went during the weekdays!

We had the catfish executive and added a side of their special crawfish creole gravy. Was tasty except their special hot sauce, I didn’t care for the taste. Also had half strawberry French toast & half snicker French toast. Added cheesy eggs and sausage patties. Overall taste of food was 7/10. Wait time I’ll say 9.5/10 :) food didn’t take long.

We were in town visiting from Houston and I found this place on Google maps and I'm so glad I did. This was the best food we've had during our trip! Can't remember our server's name but he has gray dreads and he was AWESOME!!! He made us feel right at home! He explained some of the signature dishes to us but I went with the La Colombe Brisket Hash. It was DELICIOUS!!! I highly recommend and if I'm in Chicago again I will be back!!!

Amazing. I have eaten at hundreds of breakfast places all over the world, and "Batter & Berries" ranks amongst the best of the best. From the moment I walked in, there was a positive energy. The front of house staff were all engaged, fun, and sharply knowledgeable about the menu. The energetic beats from Telepopmusic and other indie world dance artists was as refreshing as the coffee, which is excellent. I had a special, a frittata that was a play on Creole Shrimp and grits with Andouille sausage to had even more meaty heft. However, the real star of the show is the French toast slathered in syrup-infused butter. That's right. Butter. With. Syrup. Inside. It was so delicious, my brain practically exploded. I got the Lemon french toast; there are four regular flavors and a rotating special variety. French toast can be a deceptively subtle thing. The chefs' artistry was evident from the beautiful shade of golden brown, the satisfying crunch from the caramelized bottom of the bread, and the perfect harmony of flavors. Fairly priced, I left a big tip.

Their french toasts were really good! They got the best and fresh butter! But nothing was hot! I ordered for french toasts and chicken sandwich . Nothing was hot , neither the french toast, nor the sandwich or fries. I wish they could serve the food hot ! I gave all the 4 stars just for their french toasts and a very good service! So as a conclusion i would say they got yummy food and excellent service! Wish they could serve their food hot, makes the taste better and we can enjoy what we are paying for!

Wow. The service here was outstanding from both the kitchen staff & Tus! Sat down and had our food ordered and at our table in less than 15min. The food was delightfully unique and incredibly delicious. A bit more on the pricey side compared to some other local brunch spots, but entirely worth it all things considered. Absolutely will return again…the catfish needs to be added to the menu permanently!

Came to Chicago for our anniversary and decided to visit here for brunch. And it was nothing short of amazing. To say that this food touched my soul is an understatement. I wish I could remember my servers name. She was great and I have to think her for recommending the creole biscuits and gravy. The best dish I had from a restaurant in a long time. . We almost went somewhere else because we were running behind on our reservation. I’m so glad we didn’t, I wouldn’t have known how much I missed out on. Will definitely stop by again on my next trip to Chicago. P.S. please bottle and sell your hot sauce I would love to take some back with me next time.

If I could leave 10 stars I would. We had fantastic wait staff who helped us answer questions since we were silly tourists. We went on a week day and were immediately seated. We had to get the French toast flights and we did not regret it at all. We got a few sides and it was all amazing but the French toast was otherworldly. My friend and I had seperate favorites (mine was caramel and hers was lemon) but there was no bad slice. This was my favorite spot during our trip and I can't wait to go back.

Best breakfast spot in Chicago! Vacationing in town for the week, we came on the recommendation from our Uber driver. We showed up a few minutes before opening and our party of four was quickly seated. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming, such a great vibe!! I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I went with the shrimp frittata. Most excellent! I did sample the blueberry French toast, and especially loved the maple butter. So many good things on the menu... get there early and come hungry!!!

My trip to Chicago ALWAYS includes a trip to Batter &Berries. No matter if I go first thing in the morning or near closing the service and food is always A1. I have been here a number of times and I have never had poor service the team is pleasant, engaging, and there to serve. I cannot resist getting any of their specials with seafood incorporated. But their French Toast is ALL THAT AND SOME. I recommend getting the flight if you've never had the French toast but my favorite flavors are Lemon or Caramel French Toast. When you go bring your friends and family, and your appetite. Enjoy! Oh and I think you can bring your own bottle to make your own mimosa, I've never done this because I'm usually getting on the road after stopping through.

The food here is so good, oh my gosh, the taffy apple French toast was just amazing!! We ordered every special they had that day!!

This place is a nice spot. Can be a little pricey, and reasonable at the same time depending on your taste buds. My chicken and waffles(Clucks & Goof) was under 20 bucks for example. While I really didn't care for it the pragmatic were good. The waiter Noah was attentive. There's a bit of a wait. We waited in the rain for an hour. There's parking in the front of the store but it may not be available to you because the resturant is usually busy! Over all a good experience.

We were in town for the Chicago Marathon and our first stop was here for breakfast. It was recommended by a friend who used to live here and it did not disappoint!! Everything was delicious! I personally had the french toast flight, chicken sausage and the hash browns. My friends had the omelet, catfish and chicken and waffles. The service was great as well! Can’t say enough about our server Tim!! He was funny, kind (he gave my friend some encouraging words for the marathon) and gave great recommendations and service!! This was our first time but definitely not our last!! Batter & Berries is a must every time you’re in the Chi!!

Who has ever heard of a sweet potato waffle with chicken in it??? Neither have I...until today! This place is phenomenal! The staff is sooo amazing and fun! Our waiter, I wish I could remember his name but he was soo funny and had jokes! Made us feel like family! He wore like a Richard Simmons costume today and it was ALL THAT!😁💛 (10/31/2021). Everything in the pix I posted were amaaaazing!

I had heard great things but had never made it here in my first 5.5 years in Chicago and man was that a mistake on my end. Everything was fantastic, great service, fresh juice and to say the food was great is an understatement. The super French toast flight is the way to go to make sure you get to try their seasonal French toast. I also then got the brisket sandwich which was fantastic and their fries are perfectly seasoned and extra crispy. I will be back very soon to begin knocking other menu items off one by one.

This place is a pretty good breakfast spot in Chicago. Think I still got this after wild Berry but still good nonetheless. Tip: hop on the waitlist on Yelp to avoid wasting time! We waited about 40 minutes when we went at 9:20am on Saturday morning. We got the French toast super flight. The different between the super and regular is you get the seasonal French toast with the super. We also got the fried chicken Alfredo omelette which was really good as well - think it was a special off the menu. Overall solid experience and great customer service!

  • 3/5 Shah M. 2 years ago on Google
Thankfully we were able to get in line through Yelp, as I would've regretted waiting for an hour plus otherwise. We were seated within a few minutes of checking in after having been in line for about 70-75 minutes. Unfortunately from there, it took another 10 min to get glasses of water and another 5 min before our waitress greeted us. The team was friendly in general, but the different periods of waiting were a little rough. The "We're Movin On Up" Executive dish was pretty solid and very filling, but the sauce that was used in the dish definitely didn't taste very breakfast/brunch-friendly. It kinda threw the rest of the dish off a bit. Having seen a lot of pictures of the Cluck-N-Gaufre (Goof) dish in other reviews, I had fairly high hopes for it. Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing of the dishes. The hot sauce flavor of the chicken was actually very tasty, but was overshadowed by the almost burnt texture and dry taste of the breading/chicken itself. The Caramel French Toast was the highlight of the meal, and adding some cut up bananas/strawberries made it even better. The food in general was good, but between that, the insane wait times, and the average service, I don't see myself coming back.

First time customer and I will definitely return if I’m back in the area. My waiter Tim provided some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced at a restaurant — incredibly knowledgeable, kind, welcoming, and thorough. I ordered the super french toast flight and the chicken & waffles. The blueberry and lemon pieces were the highlight of my french toast experience, complete with a delicious maple butter served on the side. Sweet potato waffle was cooked perfectly, and chicken was juicy and seasoned well although a little on the smaller side. The nutmeg hot sauce!!!! Incredible idea, and the flavors went perfectly with a little maple syrup that Tim brought over for me. All in all a great experience and I think if I had a million dollars I’d give probably at least half to Tim because he made my first day in Chicago so special.
