Bottom line: I would go back here if I were in the neighborhood. Great local spot. Ended up here as we were at the theater across the street. Saw it on the way in and it looked great. So glad we stopped in. Really well made cocktails to begin. The dumplings were out of this world delicious: Short Rib and mushroom are the way to go. Our group shared all the dishes and it was a great way to try the offerings. Generous portions and reasonable prices. Easy place to come back over and over again.

Wow - I absolutely loved Community Tavern. Pretty and cosy dining room, friendly and charming staff and sensational food at excellent prices. I had the mushroom butter dumplings (4 perfect parcels of umami shrooms and thai basil) followed by the vegan Dan Dan noodles (a flavourful and piquant bowl of chewy noodles, five spice, sesame paste, shiitake mushrooms, yu choy, scallions and roasted peanuts) and shared the 4 layer coconut cake (passionfruit curd, togarashi-infused caramel, coconut swiss buttercream, shredded coconut) and every bite was delicious. Wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend to a pal!

I had a good time here. It was my first time, and our server went over the menu very well. The presentation of our food was well done, and everything was delicious. I really enjoyed my cocktail too. Duckfat washed old fashioned was very good. Only thing I would say is that all of our main dish came with noodle; Trouts and meatball. I wish I'd known that since we got carbonara noodle dish as well. But other than that, it was great. I would come back here for sure.

Followed @eater_chicago to @communitytavern. The menu is Asian inspired. Service was great. We even got clean plates and utensils after every course. 🥟 Kimchi dumplings - the wrapping is perfectly bouncy and firm. 🍝 Prawn Carbonara with Thai Spices - didn't really taste much of the Thai flavors. The prawns were tasty. The bacon flavor also infused the dish. 🍲 Coconut & Lemongrass Soup - sour, fragrant, warm. 🍔 Burger - came highly recommend. It was a good burger but not one with a unique flavor that I'd crave. 🍰 Coconut and passion fruit cake - the flavors took a bit getting used to. Underwhelming. #food #eating #tummy #letseat #chicagoeats #foodiegram

Always wanted to try this place after the rave about the burger. It was very good but not the best I’ve ever had. Still delicious though. The green papaya salad was also very good. Very flavorful. Love the vibe of the place. Great service.

Amazing food and amazing service. Short rib dumplings were to die for and the half chicken was exquisite. Shout out to Pete and Karen for amazing service, I’ll be back! I also got the burger to go and I understand why it’s ranked one of the best in Chicago.

A couple of us went to the community tavern located on Milwaukee avenue. The environment was nice, a lot of energy. However, we felt that the food was substandard.  They said they won awards for their burgers, but basically it was like eating something from the Shakeshack. Also disappointed with the Bar harbor mussels. Somewhat slimy and very small. I think the topper was when we received the bill. Initially our waiter was very good. Attentive. However, he fizzled off midway through the meal and took forever to give us the bill. We finally realized why the service went down hill.  He had already taken the liberty of giving himself 20% gratuity, as well as a 3% Employee Health surcharge. I've never heard of a health care surcharge. We will not be going back.

Ooohhh my, can I give 10 ...100 stars ? And the biggest praises possible ? The food was amazing. Eeeeverything I had or tasted from my friends , as I had to taste everything. It's so crazy that we always chose the downtown area most of the times for upscale restaurants, but this place is so close to home and it is just amazing. Downtown people, suburbs, anyone with a love and respect for their tastebuds should come here. I only have a picture of the tuna dish as it was by far the best one I had in a very long time. We'll become regulars for sure.

Modern place especially for the area. Service was super nice, many attentive people. The kim chi cheese fries were a big portion and the melty cheese was tasty. Burger was rich and cheesy. Skinny fries with that were gucci. The coconut cake was the reason I came. It could have been a little more most, but was very flavorful which compensated for that. Dumplings were deec. Don’t sleep on the happy hour 5-6, cheaper appetizers!

I drove for 40-minutes to get here right at 5 pm when they open the doors. When I got there at 4:55 people were waiting outside to dine in. I was favored with rock-star-parking right in front of their door and free because it was Sunday. I sat at the Bar order an Old Fashion and food to go - I was treating my friends who just had a baby. The cocktail was delicious (I am an old fashion freak so I taste one in each establishment that serves it). I would suggest for them to serve it over one big clear solid piece of ice instead of a bunch of cubes, to preserve the integrity as one sips the elixir. The service is excellent, accommodating, friendly, and willing to help. The ambiance is warm, simple, inviting, yet urban chic. Every dish was superb. I order Kimchi Dumplings, English Pea Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles, Nam Prik Udon with shrimp, and White Prawn Carbonara. My friend place it on colorful plates and we shared. Truly a delight of flavors to our tastebuds. The 3 of us were delighted with the preparation, flavors, and spices. My favorite, or these bunch, was the Dan Dan Noodles, had a little kick. I could not resist my sweet tooth and ordered 4 Layer Coconut Cake and Kafir Lime Cheesecake which we just eat out of the boxes. Each one with a fork in hand and satisfied experience. We all agreed that we will be coming back again and again for takeout or dine in.

We recently moved to Portage Park and Community Tavern gas become one of our favorite establishments. The friendly staff and overall environment makes Community warm and inviting. The fully stocked bar provides specialty cocktails, wine options, and draft beer from several local breweries. The short rib dumplings, glazed ribs, Dan Dan noodles and cheese burger are among our favorite dishes.

This place was great! The food was very unique with some interesting and delicious fusion ideas. Everything on the menu sounded so intriguing. We were very happy with our choices. I did feel that the prices overall were a bit high, but it's a great place for a date or a nice meal.

It's taken me too long to write a review about Community, and I adore them being a part of our community. I don't have any pictures because I usually eat the food way too quickly when it comes to the table. However, I do want to review our most recent experience. We came in on a Thursday night that was relatively busy. We had a reservation that included my wife, two and a half year old son and myself. We were promptly seated at a table that had a high chair waiting. When we approached the table, the table next to us of two women, one of the women commented to the other just saying, "Look" with a head nod, that I noticed out of the corner of my eye. All is well, we sat, ordered our food, with an appetizer for my wife and I, and continued on our dining experience. My son is generally good when dining out and tonight was no different. His food arrived first (Kudos to the staff to know to get a kids food out ASAP) and he started in eating and enjoying his food. The women next us then left. Hopefully not because of my son because he was on his best behavior. Servers came to our table, filled our waters and one even chatted with my son. They were extremely friendly and very understanding. Our mussels then came and WOW, just WOW. Champagne and Brie broth on a huge order of mussels for a start was just amazing! We enjoyed every bite and dunked our bread into the broth until there was almost no more. The best! Our meals then started coming out, my wife's Sea Bass and my Chicken Roulade. Both amazing and so flavorful. We opted to skip dessert, but our experience was amazing. We've ordered delivery a few times through the Pandemic, but since the deal they have "Kids Eat Free Tuesday - Thursday, and Sunday" we rarely were able to get him anything since that is Dine-In only. We were glad we did. We all had a good time and enjoyed our night despite others. That being said, I feel this place is entirely kid friendly (It doesn't look it at the front) but they do their best to make sure every guest, young or old are happy. And they did just that. We will totally be back! (or order.. or both..) UPDATE: Adding Pictures from a recent visit. Pictured are the champagne and Brie mussels and the Community Bibimbap with CDK Skirt Steak.

The best restaurant in Portage Park. Throw a dart at the menu and it will hit something amazing guaranteed! The brie and Champaign mussels are outstanding! Go during happy hour and get the kimchi fries, pair it with the best old fashioned you can get in the city for less than $10.

My bf and I have been here twice now. Both times have been amazing but the second time is probably our favorite! We had pascal as our server and he was nothing short of wonderful. He was super attentive. When I ordered a margarita with salted rim the bar put a little amount of salt and I wasn’t gonna say anything because it’s up to the interpretation of the bartender, but pascal walked by and immediately noticed and reapplied the salt for me to exactly how I like it which is A LOT. The food is so tasty. We got great recommendations from pascal as well. We are planning on coming back frequently to taste the rest of the menu. So happy this place is in our neighborhood. What a find!

Great dinner spot with a unique menu. Ordered to-go a handful of times and the mussels are an appetizer must. Noodle dishes, burger, and kim-cheese fries are A+++.

Ok so like many others, I wasn’t aware of community tavern until the article about the burger came out. My wife and I decided to make the trip out there to see what the fuss was about. We thought we’d like the burger but honestly, we loved everything else WAYYY more. The food was absolutely amazing. There were so many things we wanted to try on the menu. Our waiter even said to skip the burger, but we didn’t listen but we should have. Not to say the burger was bad, but everything else was so damn good. We had a great experience! While the burger was pretty good, I wouldn’t put it in the same category as Au Cheval personally, nor does it matter. This place is top tier and worth dining! We’ll be back again!

Overall I like this restaurant and feel if I lived in the neighborhood it would be our go to spot. The service is awesome (though small space at the high tops, kept getting our chairs bumped into). I thought the dumplings were OUTSTANDING. I was disappointed in the other meals we got. I was really looking forward to eating here and have been following them for a long time. The crispy noodles were bland, and the meat in our bibimbap was room temperature. Hope to try other things in the future.

We ordered 4 things: pork ribs 8/10, crispy rice noodles 8/10, butter mushroom dumplings 10/10, and fried chicken 6/10. The fried chicken was the only thing I wouldn’t order again. It was on the sweeter note, which is not to my liking.

Not sure how friends discovered this place but it's super cute and food was so good! Being Korean myself, I'm always skeptical to try Korean fusion but Community Tavern did it right! Server Peter was attentive and funny in his own sarcastic way. Here what we got: -Queen of Hearts: I like gin. This drink was good that I got a 2nd. -Raw Oysters: it was so delicious! We almost ordered a 2nd round but were too full from the meal -Charred Carrots: I hate (yes, hate) cooked carrots, but this-- omg, was so good! The whipped cream cheese, and the flavor-- mmm, it was so good. I could order a 2nd. -Bar Habor Mussels: I thought they were mediocre but my friends loved them. -Milk Bread Tartine: thought it's a popular dish. Honestly, nothing special about it. Skip it. -Nam Prik Udon: delicious udon noodles with flavors of Thai -Short Rib Dumplings: once again, had low expectations with dumplings but honestly, it was really good. I think it's the XO Sauce that made it special! -coconut cake: complimentary for birthday; it was good. Can't wait to return!

Stopped here on a whim; truly ended up being my favorite summer patio supper this year. Short rib dumplings to die for, Milk bread with a genius butter, Crispy rice noodles I refused to share, and a gorgeous 4 layer coconut cake.

As I dig into the burger, first thing I noticed that bun was one of the best bun on a burger, warm and soft texture, blends in perfectly with all the condiments and burger meat which you can taste the freshness. They use a little bit of fish sauce giving the burger an unique taste you won’t find anywhere else.

Everything has always been delicious here. Arrive in time for happy hour, and get some good deals on appetizers and drinks, with your savings get the baked Alaska, which was very good, and I rarely see on a menu.

Food: This place has a burger that was consistently ranked in the top ten of the best burgers in Chicago, so I had to try it. It did not disappoint. One of the best burgers I've ever had, hands down. Juicy, cheesy, greasy, and filling, with sweet pickles. They had really nice fancier items as well, like pork dumplings and scallops which we also tried. The chef truly is creative with a lot of control and care over the menu items. Service: When we first arrived, it was mostly empty, and we didn't have a reservation. I had looked on their website previously and it said they had open tables to reserve between 6:30pm and 7 for that night, right before we left for the restaurant. It only took about 10 minutes or so to get there. After arriving and being greeted at the hostess stand, the hostess sent us packing saying they had no openings until 8:30! I immediately hopped on their website booked for a reservation for two at 7pm. We went back inside, where the hostess was surprised, and then proceeded to seat us. So either the hostess just missed seeing there was a table open or someone just cancelled. Either way, BOOK A RESERVATION. The place filled up quickly after that and was extremely busy. Our server was friendly, we got our food and drinks on time, but we were only able to place one drink order, as the server did not come back around to ask for refills. Water was refilled constantly, but I would have liked a full beer with my burger. In and out in less than 2 hours. Atmosphere/Decor: Busy. Busy. Busy. The tables and chairs were a little squeezed together but very comfortable. They had a family room in the back for larger parties, and the inside reminded me of a combination of an old grandma's kitchen with an updated, hipster vibe. Lighting was a bit darker to throw a chill mood, and the bar extended all the way to the back, all tables and floors were wood grain. Vibe: Mix of people coming in for drinks, coming in on dates, friends eating out and families having meals together. Drinks: The drink menu and wine list looked fantastic, would have liked to try another drink besides the one beer I had, which was good. Good selection of local breweries on tap. The bartender was constantly shaking and mixing drinks behind us. Price: One appetizer, Two meals, two drinks, and dessert ran us exactly $91, before tip. Parking: Street parking is available right outside the restaurant on the same street. We were able to grab a spot right in front, although, it fills up fast, and may require a longer walk than we had. Parking is $2.50/the in the city.

We love going to Community Tavern. The staff is fantastic (especially with our two little boys). The menu is seasonal and everything is always delicious. The cocktails are on-point. The kid-meal and drink specials are amazing. Mostly though - everything they do from top-to-bottom is done with class and a smile and it's always such a pleasure and a treat for us to dine there.

The food was completely delicious. Great service and a wonderful atmosphere. Had the charred cauliflower salad, the blueberry yuzu tart, and the Szechuan Noodles. The only minor complaint I had was that I didn't expect the noodles to be spicy but they were. Thankfully that was okay for me and it was absolutely delicious.

I absolutely love the place; one of my favorite restaurants and I am so disappointed with my last order. The Vietnamese Meatballs’ recipe changed substantially. I am kind of frustrated that there was no indication that the recipe changed, and I only found out once I opened the takeout order. I get that the restaurant changes the menu often, however why wouldn’t you change the name of the dish or at least update the description to explain this change? I’m really bummed that this new version does not even come close to its predecessor.

The food, drinks, and service are top notch. I discovered this place 2 weeks ago and I've been back multiple times. Get the champagne mussels and you'll never get mussels anywhere else!

Once again a fantastic evening. Started at the bar with great cocktails and when the rest of the family came it was such an easy transition to great food. As our party consisted of vegetarians to carnivors, the options make this restaurant so wonderfully accommodating. The team is beyond hip and this adds so much character to Community. Ty as always

Everything I’ve tried here it’s amazing! Dumplings are fantastic (the short rib, my favorites). Mussels are delicious & oysters are always fresh. Drinks are excellent as well! I also loved the service, all the staff is very kind and professional.

This place is an absolute gem! The staff are amazing, the food is incredible and the drink selection is top notch! It's a little pricey, but absolutely worth it!! We always get the Champaign and Brie mussels, they're so good. If you haven't eaten here yet you need to.
