I absolutely love coming here to ice skate! The main reasons are: 1. It is a track/loop, not a typical rink 2. It slopes up and down slightly so you can pick up a little speed without moving your feet. 3. It is free Monday-Thursday for those with their own skates, Friday- Sunday it is $5 4. The backdrop at night with the lights and the skyline is gorgeous! This was my first time back since COVID so some things changed, like you can book/ reserve your time in advance. The skate rental is outside in a container right next to the track instead of inside. I would recommend reserving your time online since you are guaranteed a spot and it is $2 cheaper if you need skates. They tend to sell out on weekends and Friday nights. They have lockers inside that you can rent for $3/$5 for 3 hours at a time, otherwise you need to figure out where you are going to put your shoes and other items. You can rent penguin ice skating helpers that you hold on to as you go around the loop. They come in child and adult sizes.

I’ve been to this skating rink twice and it’s so much fun! The ribbon is long and varied in elevation with a decline and an uphill portion. There are three areas to check in: 1. Inside the building for folks with their own skates. 2. In a trailer right by the rink. 3. In another trailer by the second entrance near the food trailer. So, if the line is long at one of them, send a buddy to check another one out. Be sure to download all your tickets for your party. The system sends each one in a separate email. Make sure your wrist band is visible when getting on the ice. They appreciate it. The music is good. We just left our shoes under a bench, but there are also lockers for rent. There are bathrooms inside the main building as well as port-o-potties outside. We never tried the food, but there is a food vendor with hot chocolate and such. Only feedback was that it was still pretty bumpy and had lots of shaved ice when we went—it felt like it hadn’t been Zamboni’d like it was supposed to before we got on.

Was a lot of fun but definitely pricey sitting right at $20 dollars with skate rental and ticket. Make sure to signup in advance for the 2 hour slot of your choosing. The skates were in good condition but given the number of people the ice wasn’t in the best condition but had an overall amazing experience!

What a fun place to skate!!! Maggie’s park is perfect for a night out with family and friends. They give you a wrist band to enter before you take your ice skates. ⛸ If you’re worried about where to keep your belongings, they have $3 lockers with different sizes. It says that phones aren’t allowed during skating, but no one was really checking. I used mine without any problems. They also have a rest area after you skate where you can enjoy some hot chocolate, cheese pretzels, and more! ☕️ See the pictures. 📷

Definitely recommend. I learned that for weekend mid-day and evening times the tickets sell out the week before. The ribbon is fun to skate, went there at earliest time it opened on Sunday at 11. It was quite crowded within 30 minutes. Also the ice was all dented within those same 30 minutes, can't imagine how it would be the last 30 minutes of the reserved session (11-1). But they do close it every 2 hours to smooth it out. Definitely suggest getting at the earliest time during your reserved session. Overall it was fun though.

Had a great time here! If I lived here, it would be my exercise of choice! Loved the locker setup, super easy to use. Staff is attentive. 🙏🏻💕🌻

This is a beautiful rink within the park with a very cool rock wall in the middle. I would not recommend this place if you are new to ice skating. It gets really busy and cramped and you need to be able to keep pace. There is a rail, but it not super tall. The park recommend for us to be there 45 minutes early, and we did. However, we ended up sitting around for 30 minutes as there was no one at the check-in booth. 30 minutes early is plenty of time. You can get skate rentals, locker rentals, and guide rentals for children at this location. If possible, bring your own skates as it is cheaper to get in the rink that way and you won't have to wear skates that don't fit correctly. Here there is a cafe if you get hungry or thirsty, but it is higher priced. I spent $7 on two water bottles. Bring water!

The ice skating session doesn’t start until later on in the day. Went there at 9 Am expecting to start the day with a skating session at the beautiful park but was shocked that the first session doesn’t start until 11 am. Unfortunately had to skip the experience as I did not have any of that information in advance and instead just wasted my time.

We visited in late Spring for an Adaptive Climbing Expo. The skating ribbon goes around the climbing walls. My sons had a great time. The park district staff were pleasant and helpful. In the winter, we plan to go ice skating and sled skating. I am thrilled that more than one sled skate is available for rental. My only issue is bathroom access. There is no changing table large enough for an adult. Not all wheelchair users are continent, able to catheterize themselves or self-transfer to the toilet. My younger son is one of those young adults that needs to be changed. Also, a larger changing table can be used for babies, kids, and adults.

Bought tickets for the Van Gogh skating attraction. I saw ZERO paintings on the ice because they've been skated/zamboni over so many times they're not even visible (see photo of faint blue square on ice). The ice and rental skates were also AWFUL. They only zamboni the ice 3x a day at 1, 4 & 7pm so by the time you get out on the ice for your 8-10pm reservation, it's already bad and just gets worse as you go. 100% do not recommend wasting your money. Go to a better rink.

This is a really thoughtfully designed and well-run place, especially with the pandemic situation going on. You can register / make a reservation for a window online. The ribbon is quite spacious and provides some great views of the city in the backdrop. There’s a place to drop bags, and a food cart for refreshments.

Really fun, with great views of the city. Skaters of all skill levels, from newbie faceplanters like myself to elegant effortless skaters. Can’t be beaten as open air exercise in the middle of the city. Free or practically free if you bring your own skates.

Reservation required. Staff was courteous and accommodating when I tried 3 different pairs of skates to find the size that was comfortable for me. Skating around the ribbon was a unique and fun experience. One part was just very very slightly downhill, and that made it fun to skate through :)

Terrible music. Why are you playing 50's rock at a Christmas-time Ice rink decorated all Christmas-y? Plus it was so low you could barely hear it. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Parked right outside the rink!

This place is great. Get your tickets online ahead of time and get there a few minutes early. There are a few places to pickup skates if you’re renting. If you need a locker, they’re available for $3 on the north side. Restrooms are also available there. It got a little busy about an hour in but overall was great.

I loved ice-skating here. The ribbon has 2 elevation chances making the laps interesting and exciting. Residents wih their own skates can skate free in the mornings and for a reduced price during the rest of the day. The hotdogs were not amazing but the skating was 10/10.

Great spot for ice skating. I skated for about 90 minutes. There were groups of all ages enjoying the ice skating ribbon. There are some food and drink options.

Always so fun to be skating In the city! We had so much fun. The ice is always In rough shape but there are hundreds of people skating on it daily so that’s understandable. The scenery as you go around is always beautiful. Love that setting for skating. Staff is helpful and registration is super easy online. And cmon $5 for admission. You can’t beat that!

The skate ribbon is an awesome date night or just a plain fun thing to do. The evening slots with snow on the ground and the city lights make it very beautiful. The skating price is extremely reasonable I feel. Parking is always the trouble, the millennium park garage is the most convenient, but it's like 30.00. At this time Randolph paid parking are all blocked for construction so there's really nowhere nearby that's convenient. In any case, the ribbon is great!!!

Excellent place for skating. 2 hrs + skates included online. The only problem is the skates are little hard and start hurting your feet after 1 hr. I can be more comfortable if I bring my own next time.

Such a cool rink in the middle of the city! Love how it's a ribbon/trail instead of your traditional rink. You get a full view of the city too. We went on a weekday night which was nice because it's a small width, so having less people was much easier to skate in. I imagine it gets tight on the weekends (noticed those tickets sell out quickly too). They had little penguins for the kids to hold on to and there's a lot of railing available too. The tickets are for a full 2 hours, which is a really nice length of time. There's a cute little shop next to the rink selling hot coco, coffee, and some other snacks/drinks too. Of note, most people just left their shoes by the benches. You can rent lockers if you need to store stuff. We parked in the Millennium parking garage which was waaaay cheaper if you bought the parking pass online.

So much fun! Make sure to book your reservation online before going. There are a few 2 hour skating sessions during the opening hours. So make sure to book ahead of time. There is a place to sit and take a break. You can also get hot drinks from the stand. The prices are about $22 for skating. I really enjoy this skating rink space and ribbon design. I would definitely go back!!!

Even if you are not ice skating, Maggie Daley Park is a park worth visiting when you are in Chicago! So close to the Millennium Park & the Cloud Gate, and also to Lake Michigan ☺️ I would certainly recommend it for early morning strolls or coffee walks with friends. I have seen families have a wonderful time too as they have playgrounds and other cool facilities on site!

If it's winter in Chicago, you gotta make sure to stop and skate the ribbon. It's a great experience no matter the weather! The staff was friendly and helpful. The ice was freshly surfaced and made for a perfect time skating. They give you about an hour and a half which was plenty of time.

I took my nephews here for a fun summer activity. It was my first time but they visit frequently since they live in MG. The park is well-equipped with a water fountain area, various playground equipment, a skate park, and place to buy some refreshments. A party room can be rented. The grounds were well-maintained.

We loved the ice rink!! I live in Minneapolis and we don’t have one this cool. Also super cute to have a little food truck with beverages and snacks!!!

Loved this experience. Had never tried outdoor skating before. There are two parts of the ribbon that have a slight down slope so you can glide and pick up speed. Super fun. It's a different kind of cold 🥶 in Chicago for this southerner, but we got a good hour of skating in before calling it quits. Glad we bought our tickets online, scheduled our visit ahead of time, and arrived early. We were able to get right in, grab a locker, and skate before the ice got crowded (and for novice skaters this was very beneficial). Would love to go back one day.
