Iconic. Historic. Beautiful. Art Deco. Designed by the architectural firm of Holabird and Root. 1929. One of many prized Holabird and Root creations in Chicago, including: the Pontiac Building, Monadnock Building (south half), Gage Group Buildings, Chicago Building, Cook County Court House/Chicago City Hall, Soldier Field, Stevens Hotel, 333 N. Michigan, Palmolive Building..... etc This Building is one of the more desired edifice's to photograph at night.

Art Deco treasure. I visited on the weekend and you couldn't see the vault or walk around the inside at all, although the security guard suggested coming back on a weekday and asking for a tour. Wish you could also see the trading floor and pits, the organized chaos would truly be amazing. With as quiet as downtown Chicago is, standing in the street to take a picture felt very safe.

The Chicago Board of Trade Building was built between 1925 and 1930. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places and the National Historic Landmark List in 1978. This is a beautiful building both inside and out and is a must see. Check it out!!

My favorite building in the city. It’s elegant and exterior architecture is amazing both during the day and at night. Looking up Lasalle Street Ceres is always watching down the city.

I have had the best opportunity in a lifetime working at the CBOT for more than 30 years. The building itself was the tallest building in Chicago till the Prudential went up. It is the south anchor of LaSalle Street in the financial district. It is a shame that the open outcry markets have gone by the wayside. I still remember my first day at the Board and being blown away by the roar that went up when the Grain markets opened. I was hooked and never looked to work anywhere else. The building itself is a art deco masterpiece inside and out and should be visited if you are looking to see some great architecture in Chicago. FREE MARKETS FOR FREE MEN!

This is an incredible building to visit if you are interested in architecture, American history, or the Art Deco movement. The interior of the lobby is covered in subtle and symbolic references to trade and industry (wheat, grains, owls, and machinery), and the exterior towers to the brim with a 30-foot statue of a faceless woman made of steel. The Chicago board of trade has several basements, one of which holds a giant walk-in safe where Al Capone once rented a safety deposit box. Unfortunately the safe is no longer available to the public to walk into, but you can walk right up to it to view the 20-ton door. Even the flooring in this building is full of industry, with depictions of early 20th century airplanes, zephyrs, and marine vessels. The elevators, mailboxes, sconces and pretty much every detail has beautiful art-deco style embellishments. Definitely worth a visit, and admission is free!

What a work of art this building is. Inside and out. So much to see. So full of history and amazing architecture. If you want to see inside get to the Chicago Architecture Center.

I walk through this beautiful iconic skyscraper from LaSalle street station that it is next to. The interior is of a classic Art Deco styling. With absolutely beautiful stonework throughout as well as incredible brass work. This building is a must see on your Chicago architectural tour.

Beautiful and well preserved building, with good staff and a great trading floor inside.

Hard to see much of the inside as a tourist. Most architectural tours cover this building on the surface, but visitors can't go in beyond the lobby 😑. There are monthly building tours, the trade floor, etc. but these are sold out well in advance...

Cool historical building with a faceless statue on the top.

Spectacular architecture. Beautiful building. All of the marble work on the inside and the stonework sculptures on the exterior is just amazing. The craftsmanship that went into the making of this building is a lost art. The cost to replicate that building today would be astronomical.

An iconic building in the Loop. Very empty these days and most areas are secure, but the lobby is still timeless. Limited retail or restaurants open at the moment (July 2021)

I crave Ceres. It has been a destination point for me for decades! The food and drinks are worth any trip. I just miss the floor traders getting into fights at the bar! Lol!!!

Amazing eye doctor and staff that helped me pick out glasses (try on tons of pairs before picking out the right one). Thankful to find such a great spot!!

The rooftop bar has nice night time views of the surrounding area. Plus the bar itself is very pleasant. You also can't go wrong with Ceres on the first floor.

The Art Deco architecture is stunning, and the views looking down LaSalle St at sunset and twilight are beautiful.

The CBOT as it's called, iykyk. 10 years of my life was on the trading floor of this historical building. I've told many of stories but you just had to be there. Met some life long friends, made some money, probably lost more, lol. However, it can't be explained. Just watch this movie with Leo Decap named "The Wolf Of Wallstreet" it's about 90% accurate.

We went during Chicago Open House and got to see the vault. Excellent examples of art deco design, and a cool little tour of the vault with great tour guide telling stories of how it used to work back in the day.

SIX STAR REVIEW A personal favorite, do not miss the lobby (only opened on weekdays) Superb Art Deco building designed by Holabird and Root and completed in 1930. Wikipedia says: The current structure is known for its Art Deco architecture, sculptures and large-scale stone carving, as well as large trading floors. An aluminum, three-story Art Deco statue of Ceres, goddess of agriculture (particularly grain), caps the building. The building is a popular sightseeing attraction and location for shooting movies, and its owners and management have won awards for efforts to preserve the building and for office management. The building was listed as a Chicago Landmark in 1977 and a National Historic Landmark and National Register of Historic Places honoree in 1978.
