We walked here from a few miles away. I've wanted to check this place out for a long time. And I am glad I finally did check it out! The wait for a table was around 10 to 15 minutes shortly after 5. We sat at the bar while we waited and had a drink. We experienced good service and really enjoyed the salad and pizza pot pie! They put whole button mushrooms inside the pizza pie! And it comes with small bits of ground sausage. The pizza pot pie is a unique pizza experience that will not disappoint. The crust is tasty with the cheese and sauce! I say this is a must try place.

If you are looking for a pizza spot that’s not your every day traditional than you need to come here. I saw the food pictures and new I had to come here. Was expecting a bigger place but it looks like they turned a house into their restaurant! Very creative! If you are a bigger person like myself it’s very tight in there!!! The pizza was really good! They recommend this garlic bread but honestly if you are getting pizza it’s not necessary in my opinion to get it. The service was great. Would definitely come back again. Support Local Businesses!

All I can say is yum! We made a reservation and they were backed up so we still had to wait a bit but the service and the food more than made up for it. It's a small menu and we ordered the Mediterranean bread which was pretty awesome... like *really* good, we promptly devoured the whole thing. The pizza pot pie is where it's at. We ordered the classic and ate it as-is and cleaned our plates. I could have gone without the meatball grinder but it wasn't bad, just not where the other 2 things were. Not to mention after finishing the bread and the pot pie we were already very full and the grinder is massive. Overall, 5-stars and maybe my new favorite Italian restaurant.

The atmosphere was cozy and lively, and that was the highlight of our visit. I don’t get the hype in regards to the food. The grinder was literally tasteless. It needs some sort of spread or pickled red onions or garlic infused olive oil and a much larger portion of pimentos. Whatever is sprinkled on top of the bun has no flavor. The salad dressings were good - tastiest item we tried - wish they were paired with nice salad greens and toppings instead of iceberg lettuce and tasteless tomatoes. The pizza pot pie sauce tasted like jarred marinara and the crust was mushy and meh. Service was mediocre - fine but not engaged or personable. The free chocolate toffee bites were the highlight of the meal. Low priced bottles of wine. Only one bathroom stall per gender so can be a wait. We had a reservation and were seated on time. Others were waiting for hours for a table. I would never wait that long for this food. There are so many amazing restaurants of all price ranges to try instead. It was a unique experience and we always enjoy trying new things but I would have preferred to spend our money on something else.

Hands down to one of the best restaurants. We ordered Mediterranean bread which is easily shared between 4 of us, it was delicious. And 1 half-pound pizza potpie for me and my boyfriend, great portions and perfect taste. Adams apple for the drink, it tasted like an amazing hot Glühwein. And Tortoni ice cream the 5 scoops one for dessert, it was a wow, the must!!! The service was also great, the place was nice and cozy. Pretty crowded, but understandable. Very recommended!

This place was hard to review. Of course I made reservations because all of the hype regarding the Pizza Pot Pie. And it's safe to say it's MID. Please make reservations as the place is extremely small. It's tuck away so good you'll almost miss the place. When you see the sign, look down & go through the wooden door. Cash only restaurant. My waiter was professional & explained everything to my family. My order Pizza Pot Pie & side of meatballs. While the Pizza Pot Pie is made to order, hot & fresh it was a bit too sweet for my liking. The bread was hard to cut & not much meat in the actual pot pie it's self. I ordered a side of meatballs which is two meatballs on a bed of lettuce. No sauce or cheese. The meatballs were over cooked and chewy. They did have a decent flavor profile. Everyone I encountered was professional & warming. Finally thoughts: stop hyping up places with mid flavor. I would NOT go again, nor would I recommend the restaurant.

Yummy yummy!! Long wait on a Monday night but completely worth it! I am not a huge fan of Chicago style pizza and thank goodness this wasn’t that style. The sauce was delicious and the flat bread could have used some oil or dipping sauce. We shared the 1/2 pound pie and it was a perfect amount for 2 people . Amazing service! Our server was amazing and didn’t skip a beat!

The Mediterranean bread is phenomenal. Their pizza is absolutely unique and delicious. You can order vegetarian if you would like. Unfortunately you can’t add anything else to your pizza. I recommend splitting with someone since it’s not something you would want to warm up and take home. Dark and cozy atmosphere. The service was also amazing.

I saw this place on Food Network years ago and I had been patiently waiting to make a trip to Chicago to eat here. It was SO worth the wait!! The drinks from the bar were excellent! The wait staff was so friendly and amazing. But the food.. the food was SPECTACULAR. I can't even explain how much I loved it!! They even had the pot pies frozen so you could buy one to take home. Two of those bad boys definitely made their way back to Tennessee!! 10000/10 recommend!!!

Pizza Pot Pie!!!! Very different but sooo good. Definitely coming here again! I highly highly recommend everyone to order the pot pie and Italian salad. The dressing are home made and so delicious. There was a long wait but worth every minute. Also, this restaurant is right across where the Valentine's Day Massacre happened on 1929! Lots of history as well.

This was on my bucket list for 10 years. Finally made it and man, it did not disappoint. The pizza pot pie is amazing. Great mix of flavors and the crust isn't too thick and heavy. The restaurant itself is a great quaint little spot with wonderful smells that make your mouth water as soon as the door is opened. Will definitely go back and definitely recommend.

We had an afternoon off while visiting family in DuPage County for the weekend and decided to try to visit Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders, which had been recommended by a friend. We knew we were going to order too much food, but it was so good I ate twice as much as I should have. Reviews recommended the Mediterranean bread, which comes with a poppy seed sauce and a sour cream garlic sauce. Our server recommended we mix the sauces. Wow, so good. The dough was delicate, light, and well seasoned. Our big fat Greek salad (the small portion, which was huge) complemented it well. All very fresh. We also had to have the one-pound pizza pot pie. It was a delight. The marinara meat sauce was well-seasoned and flavorful enough to hold its own against the dough and a river of molten cheese. Excellent atmosphere. The space, just off Lincoln Park, is small but arranged well to hold a number of booths as well as a full bar with seating and a window nook, where we were seated. The window nook is airy and bright with a nice view of the street; the rest of the restaurant has a cozy, old-school tavern atmosphere. Service was top-notch. Our server, Alex (I hope I caught her name correctly) was friendly and efficient, fielding all our questions and stopped by frequently to top off our sauces, give us napkins, etc, without us having to ask and even as she was handling a number of tables.

We were told by our local friends that we had to experience this place, and we are so glad we did! We waited at the bar for about 10-15 mins until our table was ready and enjoyed a beer. The pizza pie is out of this world, truly delicious. The oven grinders fillings were great though the bread was a little dry for my taste. The staff were all friendly and attentive throughout. Be aware that they only accept cash (there's an ATM on the premises which charges a small amount) and there is no WIFI.

The atmosphere is cozy and fun. The food is unique and delicious. You will like Pizza Pot Pie if you like cheese and chewy bread. The Mediterranean bread is too salty for me,but is savory. The food portion is big. My friend and I ordered a half-pound Pizza Pot Pie and a Mediterranean bread and we couldn’t finish them. The dessert icecream is recommended, which has almond and rum in it.

Great service. Drinks are delicious. Staff is friendly. A bit cramped in the booth, but the staff helps clear the tables often to free room on the table. Food is top notch. Anytime I visit Chicago, I have to stop by this gem. Please note that this is a cash only place so make sure you have cash. Parking is tough but valet is reasonable I believe $14. Overall wonderful experience.

Fun place to go for first timers, like us. We’ve seen this on social media and tv a lot, so we had to go. The service is top notch, we didn’t wait for anything. The place is cool and kitschy, it’s legendary if you read the history on the menu. Salad was fresh and delicious. Pizza is fun to watch being served, and it comes out piping hot. It’s not the best pizza we’ve ever had, but going (just once) was fun. Oh, and it’s cash only. An ATM is there if needed.

Look, the food here is incredible. Like absolutely inconceivably good. The Mediterranean bread makes for a perfect appetizer. It’s big. It’s easy to eat. It’s got all sorts of flavor. The pizza pot pies are also really good. The flavors packed into it makes every bite an experience. I really love the use of green peppers in the sauce and think it makes a huge impact. Overall, food was fantastic. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to wait a while to get in here. We stopped by and put our name in around 5:15 and didn’t end up getting seated till around 9. Normally that’s not an issue because there’s plenty of things to do in Chicago. It’s a big city with lots of activities. However, when you come back around 8 and they say it’ll be 15-20 more minutes, you don’t leave to take part in any of those activities. Instead you spend the next hour in the waiting area progressively getting hungrier as the scents of fresh pizza wash over you. That’s really my only beef with this place, but it left me feeling a little sour before my meal.

Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder is a Chicago staple that feels like you’re taking a time machine back to 1976. Their Mediterranean bread is a must order and is a huge piece of pita that doesn’t even fit on the plate. We recommend ordering it with their salad and creating your own mini wraps using the bread. For your main, their pizza pot pie cannot be missed. We’d recommend getting a half pound pie per person. Service is great as well and the staff are very friendly and fun.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. It was definitely a great spot that was recommended by a friend. I initially thought this place would be expensive because of it's location, but I was happily wrong on that account. We ordered a bottle of wine, an appetizer, two half pound pizza pot pies ( that's what's in the picture) and a desert. The total price was like $86.00. That's an absolute bargain, plus everything was delicious. Our server Ken was great. His customer service was just as great as our meal. I would recommend this location to anyone visiting the city that wants to step away from the loop for a bit. Some notes: street parking was kind of tight, but they do offer a valet service for $14.00. The restaurant is cash only, but there is an ATM on site ($3.50 transition fee).

I had high expectations about this place, is to small, I had the reservation with 10 days in advance and when I’m was there they asked me if I wanted to sit on the bar or wait 15 more minutes… I thought was meatballs inside the pizza but they are mushrooms, I ordered the meatballs on the size and they tasted so bad! Any flavor!! The bread was delicious!! The waiter was so friendly and attentive!!

They are CASH only so be prepared. There is an ATM in their foyer. We tried the Mediterranean Bread, Chef Salad and the Pizza Pot Pies. The food was good but the place is crowded so it's hard to navigate for the curvier people like my husband and I. They only have 4 tables with individual chairs and the rest are booths. Bathrooms are singular. Please make a RESERVATION and be on time or they will not sit you. Parking is difficult so we did opt to use the Valet for $14. Our bill averaged to $25/pp before tip and taxes. My only issue with service was at the end. Once that bill came...the server hovered over us until we paid. I had stepped away to get cash from the ATM and she just watched as I was trying to count out the payment. It dampened the experience because before that, service was great. I don't know if I will go back.

Wow, Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company truly left an impression on me! The pizza there has such a unique twist, and don't even get me started on the salad – that dressing is simply divine. What really elevated the entire dining experience was the attentive and friendly staff. They ensured everything was just right, from keeping our table tidy to making sure our drinks were always full. Dining here felt as though we were with friends who genuinely cared about making our evening memorable. This place is more than just a meal; it's a heartwarming experience I eagerly anticipate reliving. A sincere thank you to the dedicated team there. I'm certainly looking forward to our next visit!

The Mediterranean bread is excellent. The half pound pizza pot pie was good too. It is enough for 2 average eaters. Also got the Italian grinder. The grinder was just ok. We didn’t get a salad, but they looked AMAZING. Big enough to feed 4 people. It was a cool place to go to for something different. I wouldn’t come here often, but it’s fun to visit once in a while. They do have valet parking bc it can be difficult to find a spot on the road, but we got lucky and found a spot across the street. CASH ONLY

I wanted to try this place for YEARS after watching a YouTube video about it. It did not disappoint. The pizza pot pie was amazing! If I lived in Chicago I'd find my way there regularly. As for everything else, the salad was really good. That dressing they serve in separate bowls but you're supposed to mix was surprisingly delicious. The portions are large as well. You definitely won't leave hungry. The atmosphere was...very tightly knit. It's a small place and there isn't much room to get around. I'm a big guy and although I had to maneuver a bit, it wasn't as bad as I'd read. Definitely ask for a table if you're more on the hefty side 😂. Our server was great and the service overall was very attentive.

Delicious, but make a reservation! We were visiting Chicago, and wanted to stop there - we checked the wait on Google maps, and it said, "not very busy", so we headed over. 8 minutes later we were there and they told us it would be a 4 hour wait for table! We tried to make a reservation on line, but the next available reservation was over a week out! We saw that they were open early the next day, so we went there rigt when they opened, and were seated right away (2:00pm, not normal hours for them, special holiday hours). And it was awesome! Our waiter, Reid, was so nice, polite, helpful and fun to chat with. The Med bread was so good and pot pies were worth the wait (not sure if they would've been worth a 4 hour unexpected wait, but definitely worth the effort of coming back the next day) Long story short, delicious food, great place, great service... But do yourself a favor and either make a reservation, or show up early.

What a fun experience! The food servings are huge (especially the Grinder sandwich so you have to try this), the food is good, the tortoni (ice cream) is smooth and rum infused w flakes of macaroons. And the mozzarella cheese is good and chewy and fresh. The bread for the grinder was tasty and soft and fluffy with sprinkled Italian like seasoning and cheese. The only thing was the bread got soggy with the sauce being in there when it was baked lightly crisp. The upside down pizza pot pie was fun to watch the waitress uncover it to cut in half. The 1/2 pound was enough for one hungry person but it didn’t have much filling in it but some cheese so I was a little disappointed as we got the meat sauce one and there were barely any meat pieces but the large mushrooms were good. It was loaded w cheese and the dough was fluffy and good. But I personally liked the grinder the best bc it had so much stuff and it was filling and I had 1/2 the grinder leftover for the next day. The vegetarian grinder was amazing. I would def return. Plus the food was not salty. I like that a lot.

I haven’t been here in 20 years and it’s just like I remembered. The other diner had never been here and thought it was spectacular too. Pizza was worth the wait and salad was quite tasty. I recommend making reservations, even on a Sunday for lunch it filled quickly. Note - cash only! Fun area with a lot of history too. We opted for valet parking after searching for a few minutes.

Amazing food! This place was totally worth it. The restaurant has this old school character that you don’t see anymore and the service was amazing. Savannah was the waitress and she was super friendly and Miguel needs to be promoted! Usually at restaurants they do a terrible job making sure you have water, Miguel just made sure my glass was always filled with water without me having to ask for it! I’m definitely coming back here soon!

I am from Florida and saw this restaurant on YouTube several years ago. So when I came to Chicago for a conference I had to go try the famous pizza pot pie. It did not disappoint. The place has a friendly feel. The service was on point. And the food was amazing! We didn't make reservations but do recommend that you do. 4 of us had the pizza pot pie and 2 had the Italian combination grinder. Everything was perfect.

To start this off we reserved a table. Our waiter was amazing. We got the 3 popular things and they were great. The pizza pot pie sauce on the inside was so good. The ice cream was one of a kind. This place is an absolute must try. I don't think you will make it a normal continuous thing....but you need to at least have this once

Elite pizza place!! The inside vibe is very Wisconsin-supper club; which I love!! Definitely get a reservation or you’ll be waiting a very long time. I can’t believe how unique and superbly delicious this food was. The pizza is like a pizza-pot pie and the Mediterranean flat bread is huge and delicious. Dip it in the dressings that come with the salad. They have 2 sizes of pizza pies and the smaller one feeds 2 people comfortably, especially after having the flatbread and salad. Will be back and definitely bringing visitors to Chicago here because it’s an icon! (The chocolate things they give at the end of the meal are so good too)! And the service was so friendly and helpful for informing us what to order!

OMG! Everyone talks about how good the pizza pot pie is & they are so right! My god all that melted cheese in your mouth! YUM! Also, the service in this place is so amazing! You will never find another service like this around town. I feel like they value every guest that comes in & I really love that about a restaurant! Definitely will be coming back here!!
