I seriously don’t know what is going on with community. This has been my favorite hospital for as long as I can remember but in the last few years it’s done a complete 360. Everyone is so rude and nasty or doesn’t even follow up and call you back. This place seems like a complete unorganized mess. The last few experiences I have had have been nothing short of terrible from the moment I walked in the door. The doctors are good but everyone else from reception, scheduling, techs, nurses… horrible. Everyone has an attitude and usually treats you with close to 0 respect. Also they never care to follow up or give results. They also have made appointments for me and I show up just to find out the scheduler never made the appointment or they canceled it. What is going on here? How come in the last few years this place has completely slipped threw the cracks and went down the tubes. I honestly do not think I ever want to go back here unless it’s one of my last options. Tons of other hospitals in the area that aren’t a complete disorganized mess and actually treat their patients with respect and don’t get a nasty attitude when they actually have to do their job. Please do better or don’t hire employees that don’t even want to be there or work with patients.

One of the worst hospitals to go to. I will never come here or bring my husband here again. I got kicked out for expressing that the treatment they were giving my husband wasn't working. So when it comes time to pick my handicap husband who is in a wheelchair up, I can't even wait inside the building. Most disgusting place ever. It is so disgusting that they've had my husband in the emergency room for 12 hours with nothing to eat or drink for absolutely no reason at all. They take all these blood work an extra tests that has nothing to do with a breathing issue. I am so disgusted with the treatment that me and my husband have received. In my opinion these young nurses just want a paycheck. They're not compassionate at all towards patients or want to listen to your concerns. They will hear you and say they understand but they don't, not at all, not one bit do they care here at community.

Absolutely one of the worst hospitals I’ve experienced in northwest Indiana. The emergency room waiting room had people on stretchers out in the waiting room area! No one seemed to care here. I asked for help to the hospital staff and NO ONE ever came to look at my husband who was in the brink of passing out, diaphoretic, pale, nauseous, and in pain waiting to be seen by someone, ANYONE! I would NEVER recommend anyone to come to this hospital! Your better off calling 911 to get REAL help!

I’ve had surgery in the hospital twice, 0 complaints. But today….. I’ve been waiting over 5 hours just to be seen. No body here is really getting helped. Everyone is getting referred elsewhere. I can’t leave because I need return to work forms. Bathroom…..disgusting. I saw a man have a seizure and the nurses ignored him. I think short staff is a understatement. Thank God my pain subsided because I could not have been in pain this long. 2:30 til 8:15 and counting. A long time for an expected appendicitis.

Went to ER to have COVID test ran. Thank goodness it was negative! However I am spiking a temperature and have all flu/cold symptoms. But instead of the doctor doing his job and ruling out multiple viruses I was sent on my way after my COVID test came back negative. How can you call yourself a hospital and staff doctors that don't even do the simplest of vitals or listen to their patients concerns? You didn't listen to my lungs. You didn't feel if my glands were swollen. I asked if I could do a urine sample you didn't do it. I asked you to do a blood panel you didn't do it. I didn't go to medical school, but I do know my body and I know when I'm not feeling well. Now, I have to drive 240, mi to see my primary doctor in another state because the doctor's here in Indiana are incompetent.

two time now visiting with my children in the ER and wait 5 hours to get a room. first was COVID related with reports of SOB/heart palpitations. second with lethargy in an infant as MD says go to ER. upon triage I ask for lab work and none were ordered 5 hours once finally in a room. definitely done with this hospital. Going to have to make the trips to Chicago from here on out. Horrible feeling as a parent to have this fear for my child and feel helpless.

I went into the ER a couple of weeks ago with chest pain. My nurses were great. The ER Dr Bryan I believe his name was had a very condescending tone. He legit looked me dead in the eye and asked me where do I think my heart is! Mind you I’m a registered nurse! Sitting there in my full work attire with badge. Very WEIRD vibes def would not return.

I recently had to visit the ER at Community and my husband and I spent over ten hours there! Five hours in the waiting room and five hours when we finally got into the back. All that happened was a CT scan was taken, labs drawn and I was given some pain meds. Not sure why those fairly simple procedures should take over 10 hours. The waiting area was too small with staff yelling names constantly from all directions. We deeply appreciated the doctor's honesty and overall the nursing care was good. However, will not be returning to this ER if at all possible as overall the customer service was poor!

If you love your life "DON'T GO HERE"!!!! The amount of neglect and general lack of concern is alarming for a hospital. This felt more like a concentration camp than a hospital. I was brought in by ambulance in severe 10 out 10 pain level and left in a hallway sitting in a wheelchair while violently vomiting onto the floor. They eventually gave me a emesis bag when I was practically done throwing up. When in triage I told them my level of pain and they did nothing, NO MEDS. The Dr. came to triage to ask me some questions and she seem to be visibly rattled and shaking ( possibly overworked). I knew this would NOT be good. I was informed I needed to wait in the waiting area and when I voiced my concerns about this to the triage person she said " Well, leave then, sign yourself out AMA" ( Against Medical Advice) as she left me in a wheel chair in the ER waiting room. I was alone with no family, I tried going to the restroom and was in so much pain was stuck on the bathroom toliet crying and couldn't get up because of the pain. My son arrived and located me and had to get two nurses to come get me out. One Nurse says, " We need to get someone to get in the stall to help her, the others nurse says No, you don't she'll do it herself." I managed to get myself up and was returned to the waiting area. Another family member showed up and saw the lack of concern from staff as I twist, cry, and squeal about in pain in the waiting area. He got me to his car and rushed me to another facility. I suffered in pain without any medical attention at Community. ( Took them over an hour to even clean my vomit off the floor in the common hallway) When I arrived at the next facility it was like night and day. I was treated with real compassion and professionalism. The next facility immediately took me to triage upon arrival, and my pain was taken seriously. They immediately worked me up and monitored me closely the whole visit. Thank God for having family to rescue me from Community Hospital. This was not just a physically painful experience, it was emotionally and mentally traumatizing as well. INHUMANE is the only way I can describe what happened here!

This has got to be the absolute worst and UNPROFESSIONAL staff on the face of the Earth. Staff seem to be on break and not working ALL THE TIME! Apparently, some one came in as an overdose, which is serious. However, that person had a team of staff working on him. All of the other staff COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING! They stopped treating all the other patients, even critical ones, to be NOSEY and find out who needed NARCAM! For at least 15 minutes, NO ONE was being helped in that emergency room! There are some good nurses, but the few my daughter experienced were terrible! The conditions in my daughter’s room were UNSANITARY at times as the kept a bloody bedpan on her bed for over an hour along with a blood filled urine sample. She was in pain for 2 hours before being taken for an ultrasound. Her vitals were not taken on a regular nor steady basis, which should have occurred since her blood pressure and heart rate were elevated when she came in! My advice to ANYONE who has a choice of which ER to go to is to NEVER pick Community! NEVER EVER go there if you value your life and health!

Hi my name is Vicki Pahnke. I had my aorta valve replaced. This was a frightening time for me. The doctors, nurses & all other medical staff & specialist, were amazing . They were very caring, friendly & addressed all my concerns. I would recommend Community Hospital to everyone.

In March of 2022, I reluctantly went to Community Hospital in Munster for hernia repair surgery. I consulted with my surgeon beforehand because I was leery of having the surgery but the pain had gotten so bad I knew it was time to take care of it. My surgeon assured me it's a pretty routine surgery with minimal complications. I went in for the procedure and everything went well, the nurses and staff were great and friendly. Two days later, I became chilled and was running a high fever. I called the nurse at my surgeon's office and I was told I must have caught the stomach bug going around. I thought this was odd given the timing and me having surgery two days before. Four days later I still wasn't better so my sister, who is a nurse in San Fran suggested I follow-up with my primary care doctor because she suspected I had a C. diff infection. I did a virtual call with my primary care doctor and she as well thought my symptoms suggested C. diff and put my on an antibiotic right away. My culture came back positive for C. diff. so thankfully my primary care doctor acted quickly and didn't brush me off like the my surgeon's nurse. I suspected I contracted the infection at the hospital since it was only a day after my surgery that symptoms began. I also heard of another friend contracting an infection at this hospital. I don't regret the surgery because the pain in gone but I regret having the surgery at Community in Munster.

Don't tell your nurse before surgery that your in pain. She will smile and say it's nothing compared to what you will feel like after surgery. And if your three hours late going into surgery. Don't complain to her, because she is your nurse. My name Cathy Pundrich date of surgery date 6/14/23

I was in this hospital for about 5 days and the first day they took me to my room. The cna nurse was so mean to me couldn’t believe it.. everyday after that as well. One day my bed got blood all in it and my husband ask the cna is she going to change my sheets then she said who are you my husband replayed and she walked out never to return so I payed in my body blood for 24 hours. My sister came to visit and she changed my sheets. This woman was so disrespectful to me I wanted to hurt her I finally told the RN nurse not to send this women back to my room. They said they would do a report on her but I’m sure that this woman has done this before because she was so good at talking slick. I’m at home now and I plan on telling my doctor about my experience in this hospital. I just know this hospital can find better cna’s to work there. One more thing she would turn off my nurse light so rude and never ask what you need. I’m not going to let this rest.

My Son was transported to Community after a car accident with his father on 8.14.22. They were transported to different hospitals and the staff took really great care of my Son who is 6. The staff made what could have been a terrifying experience for my Son go very smoothly! Much appreciated!

Update 07/11 my mom had to go back to the hospital A week later due to normal complications. But this time the Er front desk were very kind ! I talked to several ppl because I was unable to go due to unforseen events and they couldn't have been nicer or more informative. I had talked to patient services and they were wonderful and told me they would look into matter. But in all fairness this hospital is just overwhelmed due to St.Margaret's (Franciscan) in Hammond being closed Unfortunatelythe hospitalis so congestedit takes almost24 hoursto be admitted. The staff reallyturned A corner and I hope and pray they keepup the goodwork!! Hopefully they can build an additional hospital.

E.R. Employees are not polite at all . Not discreet with people information. I know they're overwhelm with patients but that's no excuse the way they are suppose to be treating the sick or people that are in pain ! But when I was put up in the rooms the nurses they were they best. So I give E.R. -1 AND ROOM NURSES 10 IF I WAS TO RATE .

Just don’t even go here, go to fransican. Going here is the biggest regret of my life. My insurance company hates community and literally asked me to stop going there because they don’t know how to file proper insurance claims. I’m being billed for like $700 that is not my responsibility. The billing department is uneducated and fraudulent. My insurance company called them 7 times and was transferred 3 times and hung up on twice. Oh and do not even have a baby there if you want to sit in your own blood for 2 hours until someone assists you despite your attempts for contacting a nurse. Also when I arrived in labor the old nurse was talking about me to another nurse and said “she’s not even in labor, she has a UTI probably and anxiety” while other people were in the OB ED; I had my baby less than 5 hours later. I have also witnessed people being treated/given diagnosis in the waiting room of the ER. This place needs to be exposed and shut down. I’m shocked it hasn’t already. I have never had any bad experiences with a hospital until I started going here due to moving to the area. NIGHTMARE Also: Recieved a lovely phone call from Roberta in the billing department 3 days later saying that my insurance company only tried to contact them 1 time (false) and said she won’t contact them back because that is not her job. ( I can’t make this up) her suggestion: contact my insurance company who is trying to get a hold of THEM. I told her they need to talk to them because billing made a mistake and they need more information! And she said “well you should talk to them” I HAVE?!? STUPID PEOPLE WORK HERE. STAY AWAY.!!! Reporting medical billing to Indiana state

This is the type of hospital people go to die. I have never received such incompetent care in my life. They went straight to exploratory surgery and took my appendix with no signs of appendicitis, couldn't even see it on the CT...Turns out it wasn't appendicitis, but maybe they would have known that had they done ANY other testing on me? I have lost 20 pounds, can't eat, severe stomach pain, and the doctor now said here's some pepcid and it's probably due to your period..My labs were concerning enough to prompt the thought of appendicitis, but now it's "We don't know, looks good though!" The nurses have been really sweet, though.

The culture of communication and triage in your health care facilities needs to change. Providers are not accurately triaging patients in the waiting room. Several individuals are waiting 5+ hours. There is only ONE ED physician seeing patients every time we’ve had to go into your emergency rooms. My 15 month old waited 5 hours to be seen after being “triaged”. He was lethargic, had not made urine for more than 12 hours and had a worsening rash AFTER receiving antibiotics. When we asked the front desk if they had an ETA of when he would get called because at this point he was no longer able to stay awake, we were told “sorry, we’re just really busy.” When his name was finally called, we were told there was no staff available to place an IV or administer IM antibiotic to a child. Something has to change.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I took my father here on Wednesday morning since he started having pain on Sunday night. Originally they were treating us average, I would say. Then they said he had a mass in his intestines and we should focus on that instead of the abscess. I was talking to someone in my family who specializes in this and they told me that they need to focus on the abscess instead of the mass. So, I asked the doctor if we could get transferred to Rush in Chicago. I didn’t talk to a single doctor after that. I only spoke to nurses, who did what they could. The nurses were great but everyone else…not so much. They released him after his blood came “better”. I checked MyChart and his blood actually rose, it didn’t drop. It went from 15.4 to a 15.8.

I will start with the good walking into the ER. Lady that I first talked to was nice till she was on a personal phone call talking about how she hates her sister-in-law. Triage area was small and cramped and gross. Watching the care by community staff of a confused elderly woman was horrible while the son was parking. Don't leave you loved ones alone there. The care for my daughter was funny the doctor made sure to use buzz words. Then after that they moved us around like cattle. Just to be told let it run it course she has been sick for. Months . Definitely just felt like transactions for community, just making money. I am happy to say we have an appointment at lurie's so my daughter can get tthe proper care. My

I visited the E.R. Good points of visit: I only spent about three hours in the E.R. total-and they were very busy. The nurse working with me was kind and helpful. The doctor was polite, but he looked apprehensive and/or nervous to interact with me. Though I did leave with peace of mind after speaking with him-and for that I'm thankful. Areas for improvement: Not everyone was friendly-only a few. They employees seemed cold and detached. The E.R. needs to be remodeled. It was an absolute chaotic and disorganized mess. Patients' names were being screamed from three different entry points, there were literal hospital beds/stretchers with patients in them half-clothed lying in the WAITING ROOM, and the doctor/nurse would come to consult with you on your private condition in the waiting room in front of everyone. I had to be on a stretcher in front of everyone because no rooms were available. They were quick with the test, but I still felt very humiliated and exposed. It's a vulnerable situation because even though you want to protest, you still want/need help. It's not really the staff's fault because they're working with what they have, but it absolutely felt like a visit to a busy emergency room in an underdeveloped country.

The emergency room staff at this hospital rocks! I was treated with a knowledgeable, friendly, and compassionate staff. I witnessed staff on their feet working not on a cellphone, or eating food. I almost didn't come to this emergency room because of the bad reviews online. And now I know why they say don't believe everything you read. Especially, on the Internet! It's an emergency room people not the drive thru at Burger King. Of course it's going to take time and patience for ALL the patients to be taken care of i.e. triage, blood samples, EKG's, CT scans, sonograms, and maybe an emergency surgery. The problem with society today is that we don't have enough gratitude 🙏. Instead of complaining we should be saying THANK YOU to this emergency room staff for their hardwork!

The Emergency Room department is a joke. I was 2 weeks postpartum and I had a massive amount of bleeding happening. I called my OB and told me to go the ER since the main door to get up the the floor would be locked because it was past a certain time they keep it open. My doctor told me to let them know at the desk to call the Maternity ED for someone to meet me and bring me upstairs. The RUDE lady at the desk was asking a million questions while I’m bleeding out pretty much. I explained everything that my doctor told me to do. She was having me fill out paperwork, asking for my social security number, before she would even make a phone call to the maternity ward. She had me waiting almost an hour, all while this was at 2am and there was 1 other person waiting in the waiting room. Luckily a nurse came down and got me and she was embarrassed and apologized on their behalf saying none of that should’ve happened. Maternity Floor was amazing as usual. They’re a different breed up there.

I entered the Community Hospital in Munster ER on Monday morning for a stroke. I spent most of the day in the ER for observation, testing and CT scans. I want to commend Jessica and the rest of the E.R. staff for getting me through that day, and helping me cope with the stroke. I was then admitted to the 3 W Neuro IMCU floor to stay 2 days for more tests and observation. I want to thank Kylie, Morgan, Joe, Sam, Ines, Daisy, and the rest of the staff on 3 W Neuro for the compassion, professionalism, and outstanding care they provided me. You’re the strength of Community Hospital; it was apparent in my stay with you. Thanks for the humor and laughter too! Thanks to the doctors/technicians who performed the CT scans and ultrasound tests. Everything was quick and painless. Thank you for the doctors and their staff in getting my tests and medications. Thanks to Stephanie in preparing me for my return home. I came home Wednesday, only to return Friday morning for what I thought were new symptoms. The ER was outstanding again. Jessica was my ER nurse once more. Stephanie took the X-rays again. CT scan shortly after my arrival. I was then scheduled for a MRI to check out what was going on “up there” in my head. MRI was conclusive that I had the stroke earlier in the week, but this trip Friday was a false alarm. I had been advised that if I was to experience any new tingling sensations, numbness, etc., to get to the ER asap. A stroke victim has up to 4 hours to have the alteplase shot administered if they are truly having a stroke. Like I said, it was a false alarm, but better wrong, than stroke right. Thank you Dr. Badruddin for providing and treating my diagnosis, and your guidance to get through this ordeal. Jeff S. This is a true and honest review. If you want the best care for strokes, then go to Community Hospital in Munster. They are the only hospital in Northwest Indiana rated as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. That is the best care for strokes.

This hospital is horrible I understand waiting a hour maybe 2 because there were busy but to wait 4 and a half hours is insane to be seen for servere pain. Then on top of that I told I was waiting for a room which was the hold up I ended up in a cold dark hallway next to the nurses station to be discharged a hour later with no relief

Our thanks to Natasha (NeuroNurse) and Inez. These two health care providers were very kind, compassionate and extremely understanding towards my mother unlike two other health care providers in the same department. They were never rude to my mother or tried to bully her. They truly went beyond their call to duty.

Best hospital ever. The staff in the ER was fantastic and moved as quick as possible to deal with patients. The oncology floor nurses were Greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!! They were so nice and hospitable. Never got treated at any other hospital like Community. Of course they were pack but the reason it was packed and crowded is because they are the best hospital. The nurse Kim, Jazmun, Lynette, Pam and all the nurses who assisted me were outstanding. Community Hospital deserves 10 stars for thier Greatness

Emergency room was a Doctors office room was in there for 5 to 7 minutes was charged $3,295.00 just for the room! I had to tell the Doctor what medication to give me because I had shingles feeling like a Heart attack . When I showed her my rash There was no privacy in a hallway While people was walking down the hall. I had to lift my shirt up to be able to show her. When your sick you don't think of these things! Hipaa If you need emergency treatment take action before because there using this in a way they can tell your information right in front of everyone which is absurd!

He literally cussed and threw me out and I said no such thing I would like to folllw up with administration Dr Garoza actions were condescending and rude he tried not to make eye contact and turned his back on me I believe he is a danger to the patients!

An excellent lab that is efficiently run. Every time I get blood draws, for various tests, as ordered by my physicians, I am in and out very quickly and have results within a very short period of time. Lately, that has been within the first hour or so.

I'm extremely upset with this hospital went into this hospital because I have a problem with my esophagus. Upon getting into the emergency room, the doctor ordered a chest x-ray. He ordered enzyme tests for my heart but this was not the issue I went there for. I went there because I have a problem with my throat. My flapper my esophagus they didn't want to do any tests but they sure did do the easy ones which was a chess x-ray at EKG and hard enzyme test. But the doctors wouldn't test my thyroid levels considering I have an ongoing thyroid problem. He said of course I'm not testing your thyroid levels cuz I don't plan on changing your medicine. I was very displeased by the young doogie howser doctor that works in their emergency room. I would not recommend going here.

Actually this hospital gets zero stars from me. I took my daughter to get checked from rsv they told me I don’t have to stay in the hospital I can check my chart I go home and they didn’t give me a code and when I tried to sign up regular I couldn’t because she was to young. The ER wanted us to leave fast but didn’t take care of her properly when I called back I got nothing but attitude from ER , Lab and medical records nobody still haven’t helped me so apparently I have to take time out my day to go to another hospital to get some results.

I had some discomfort on the left side of my chest, and an ekg was done after the triage nurse took blood. I thought that having some chest discomfort would be considered a serious matter but that was not the case. I felt as if I were just a bother when I asked about the wait time. There was a family with about 6 people in their group, and only one person was being treated. They were being loud and inconsiderate to others, taking up a section of the er. Then, as I sat waiting to be called, a doctor called out a woman's name 2-3 times. She confirmed it was her by raising her hand and the doctor took her to a cubicle 5-7 feet away from me. He broke the news to her that she had cancer. I couldn't believe that this doctor couldn't have the decency to put her in a side room "family room" to break the news. I feel that was definitely a HIPAA violation and something that no one else should've been able to hear. The woman broke down and the doctor didn't seem to comfort her at all. I was given a chest x-ray 5 hrs after my arrival and I was in total awe about the wait time. No one kept me informed, and I felt as if I was rushed through once I did get into a room. The pct or tech came in and dug around my arm with a large gauge needle to get a line going. I then asked if I was getting any fluids and she said "No, Im putting in a line in case we need it." I told her she was hurting me but she continued to dig into my arm with the needle. I expressed that I felt dehydrated, so I asked for an IV. I was told by a doctor, "just drink water." I had been doing that all night and it didn't seem to be working. I pleaded again for an IV and it was finally given to me. I just can't believe how bad my experience was at your hospital. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless they want to be treated with such disregard or if theres no other option. I should've went to another hospital after reading the reviews of this hospital. This hospital definitely needs to be evaluated and reported to higher authorities.

My wife had a surgical procedure Friday morning at Community hospital. The nurses, the doctor, and the anaesthetist were all outstanding. All calmed my wife both before and after the procedure. Special shout out to the surgical team: Sheila, Tammy, and Kristen. We were both extremely impressed with our treatment and the staff knowledge. Thanks to all for your excellent and professional care.👍🙂

Amazing staff everyone was so nice and professional! I didn't wait long at all compare to other emergency rooms. Tests and labs were done quickly.. Nurse Leo is the best! Wish we can have more like him. Thank you 🙏

I’m shocked that the stars are low on this review. Community Hospital gets five stars in my book. The staff I encountered through out the building were courtesy and respectful to me. Community Hospital is my family’s new hospital.

Took my father to the ER. The triage nurse Cheryl was outstanding!! She realized my dad needed help immediately and alerted the ER staff. The ER nurse Eva took amazing care of my father and I truly believed she saved his life!!

I went to the ER post surgery at another facility due to post operative nausea. The original facility could not control the nausea so they sent me to the ER. Jess the ER nurse on staff was wonderful. Such a sweetheart and was very attentive to my needs. All around great experience considering my health at the time.

This hospital has a patient and caring staff. The wait can be very long but they are very good at answering questions regarding diagnosis and procedures. I did have a long wait one busy day of excruciating pain from a stent that was put in because of a kidney stone surgery. The pain meds usually work for most people but i was a different case and wished I had stayed after the surgery for hospital meds the next day. If they offer, just stay if you have not so great pain tolerance. I had to wait 6 long hours to receive pain meds. This was non stop pain at the level of birth labor but without breaks of pain.

I had to go there twice, once on a Saturday to have pre-op procedures such as an echo cardiogram, blood work, and a covid test. I was welcomed at the registration desk and quickly completed that process. I was joyfully surprised to learn that all three of these procedures were to take place in one room, by the same nurse, and it was the fastest in and out I've ever experienced. Everyone was friendly. Everyone was professional. Everyone was efficient. Everyone knew what they were doing. I was at this Hospital because I was having surgery done by a specialist the following Tuesday and he only did his surgical work at this facility. So this was my first experience at this Hospital, and I was not pleased that I had to go to a new place. All I can say is any concerns I had instantly vanished. I thought to myself I would come here for any procedure. I had great confidence in the way the entire facility operated and dealt with people. Five stars from me.
