STAY AWAY. Unethical and dishonest. Just look at all the reviews about their horrific customer service and billing practice. I was a member for over 1 year and jumped through hoops and loops every time I had to deal with their business office. Unlike many who miss the fine prints, I actually read my agreements beginning to end before signing them. I literally put reminders in my calendar to make sure I am in compliance with this gym's EXTENSIVE notification requirements. I had my last straw this week when their business office named (again) some policies that were NEVER communicated to me in any form (I triple checked all the documents and communications I signed and received from them). They then proceed to recommend all these "alternatives" that unsurprisingly all cost extra. Here is the difference between this gym and ALL the other gyms: with other gyms everything is clearly written out on an extensive agreement that you sign off when you join. You might not read it but it's there. With this one, their policies vary depending on what makes them money. I asked them to show me a copy of the policies that they were referring to (agreements, employee handbooks, anything). Should be easy enough. They couldn't. There are MANY gyms in the area. Take your business elsewhere and thank me later.

3/5: interestingly! I tried cancelling the membership and I was told they need a month advance notice for cancellation. I don't get it. Is it a job that requires one month notice before cancellation. I was also not aware of this policy until the day I emailed for cancellation. See attachment! The facility is nice but no free parking. Subsidized! not ideal for people who drive to work and want to hit gym before leaving the city.

Great facility. They have at least 5 or 6 squat racks/platforms and lots of bumper plates. The bars are not great quality and are on the slippery side (I think mostly chrome coated), but it's so rare to find a gym that has more than smith machines (which the sales people at typical gyms will reliably tell you are squat racks when you call them).

Don't go to this gym They will charge for next billing cycle for no reason. Please read the policy and be careful what the sales say! Be careful about the salesman they told me cancel the service before 1st but they will not tell you about you need to do it one month in advance. Customer service also told me this is a gym industry standard. I have no idea other gym do the same thing. Please take a look at the review about billing and money before start the membership!!!!

They will try to take every dime out of you that they can, hoping you won't notice or fight back. So be careful. We were members at this gym, and we loved it. Staff at this awesome facility are wonderful. Peter and Brian were our favorites. The classes are exceptional, with great teachers. The substitute teachers however are pretty terrible, for every class. Overall, for every minute of this gym that we enjoyed, we had to go through hell with the business office, if not more. I wish I'd never joined. I truly feel for everyone who's said horrible things about their business office and customer service. Sharon, Alyssa, and Lurie are some of the most irresponsible and useless people any business has ever had. Everything was great and we loved it until I had a serious injury and had to put my membership on hold for 4 months- I'm talking broken vertabrea and foot. This downward spiral all started when I notified them of my injuries. Being a physician myself, I had organized a nice file full of medical documents and reports that I presented to them on regular basis, starting from my injury date to when I was ready to go back to the gym. Due to miscommunication and lack of documentation on their end, they messed up my medical leave of absence. To cover for their own mistake, they wanted to charge me a substantial fee that I just had to pay without explanation. Going back to the absolute WORST customer service ever, their business office is out of reach, disrespectful, and a complete train-wreck. Other reviews regarding their poor service are no joke. When I say bad, this place's customer service is the worst I have ever had to deal with, in my entire life. For a gym at this price, one expects mediocre customer service if nothing else. Within one week we experienced three unacceptable incidents from them. One of them involved the business office lady, Sharon, yelling at me for her lack of knowledge. She had me crying with real tears. How is it acceptable to pay so much and then go through this? The other one was Laurie from business office calling past business hours, at 6:45 pm, leaving a sensitive voicemail, and then disappearing on vacation for an unmentioned duration of time. I called her back within 8 minutes. 5 days later and she still hasn't returned my call. Thirdly, they gladly lost two active members over a minor dispute, because they weren't willing to admit to their own mistakes. The business office will try to pinch any penny out of you. They tried everything they could to make us pay another month before they cancelled our membership, including lying about billing cycle, and referal fees. Once they realized we weren't going to pay another month's membership, they tried to run my credit card. Luckily they were not authorized to complete this transaction, and I was notified by my bank. They also tried to tell my boyfriend he can't cancel because of late notice. But their business office's voicemail contradicted that as well. Be very careful with this place. They will not let you out of your membership without making you fight a good fight. They are very unethical. The billing office has no dignity. Everyone of my friends who've ever been a member here will tell you that they weren't able to cancel their memberships without kicking and screaming. Please take your hard earned money elsewhere.

This is still one of the better gyms in the Loop area but it's also still expensive and the staff needs to be more like the staff at the other location. Rushing people out and turning things like the steam room off 10 to *15 minutes* before close is annoying and rude, but turning the lights off far before close while people are lifting heavy weights is downright dangerous and hostile.

Be very careful about their auto-renewed annual membership fees. I guess this goes for most gyms but months after I’d left Chicago they charged my card for a year, and wouldn’t cancel the fees because I wasn’t in Chicago anymore. Would not sign up again, only do it if it’s a very convenient location and you’re extremely proactive about canceling in advance. Otherwise go for a national chain if you travel or a gym with better customer relationship management, or just do monthly fees. I’d like to think if we all shared our gym fee horror stories they would see the impact on their brand and improve their approach.

So overall the experience was fine. The only only time I felt slightly awkward in chicago n women being racist was in their new women only classes. Really Such an oddd vibe . The fitness staff are far from fit. But the the pickle ball people and staff are great esp Bob and team. And not to forget how they charge you extra month too when you discontinue. They need to make some changes to make the experience better and welcoming people

Charged me until September 30th when I tried to quit my membership on Augurt 1st. Made no concessions after attempted contact. That’s 2 months (over $200) extra for a no-use membership. Equipment is average at best. There’s an LA fitness with a better selection, and more updated equipment for 1/4 the cost a few blocks away.

They offered me a free two week no obligation trial. I cancelled in those two weeks and they changed me for months after anyways. After spending about 40 hours on the phone with my bank and LSFC they finally refunded all my money(not including interest). Also after about 2 months they started charging my account again. This is after they refunded my money. I guess they were hoping I would never notice. I cannot recommend any dishonest organization. If you cancel your membership here be prepared to fight.

There's a lot of *stuff* here but that doesn't mean it's well thought out or organized. There's multiple squat racks but only one incline bench. And only a few free benches if you want to get around something like that. And even then people hog them and other equipment simultaneously for a long time. Free weights are on the bottom floor but machines on the top. A nice court but people on it yelling echos through the entire gym (my noise cancelling headphones can't even block it). It's not terrible outside of these things but it's not worth the cost. Also, don't get a long contract.

Let me start by saying I love this gym and can't imagine going to any other gym in the area! With that said, it is evident that the gym is very much past its prime. I am sure at one point that this place was the place to be, but the pandemic appears to have hit them hard. You just have to look around to see it needs some serious TLC if it is going to stay completive. With that said, here is what I like and what I think needs improvement at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness: Likes: - The gym is never very busy. On a weekday at 5:30 pm, there is usually only around 5-10 people on the entire cardio/weight machine floor. This means I almost never need to wait for a machine or feel rushed to get off one. Same for the pool - eight lanes and almost never have issue getting a lane at any time. - The gym attracts all types. Regardless of fitness level, there is no reason to be self-conscious here. This is definitely not a "bro gym". - The gym has everything - cardio, weights, an eight lane pool, sports courts, etc. The men's locker room (the basic one included in the membership) is also huge and has a nice sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and stall showers - always nice for post-workout. - Speaking of the locker room, I love the towel service! There are always plenty of clean full sized towels stocked and free to use. - Jesus at the spa gives great massages and at $85 for 50 minutes, it's one of the better deals in the area! Room for improvement: - The place overall just shows its age. Machines are at least 15 years old and the spaces just seems dated. This is especially evident in the pool area where walls are heavily peeled and the roof is rusted. My guess is that they simply do not have the money to put additional capital into it. - The pandemic hit this place hard, and as mentioned, it is never very busy. While this is mostly a positive, it does lack the gym vibe that some may be looking for. It can be weird to be the only person working out on a huge cardio floor with 100+ machines. - The hours are limited. Currently closes at 9pm on weekdays. Sometimes I think just being open one additional hour would make all the difference. Overall, I really like this place and hope that they succeed!

Been a member for a year and a half. Never had a bad experience. I spend most of my time in the pool, playing squash or taking the occasional spin class. The facilities are vast and never feel crowded. They have an 8 or 9 lane pool and I have never had to wait or share a lane. The pool is clean and they keep the chemicals balanced. I did not join to play squash, but have been lured in. They have a nice setup with attractive courts and league matches. The instructor, Luis, is great. He offers private classes and group sessions for a few players. This place is clean and drama free.

They close far too early for now. 8 pm and 3 pm? Even your other location is open till 11 but your flagship would be nice to be opened later as well. Nonetheless, Fantastic gym with no other place that can even offer what they have in the area. Definitely top 5 in the city no doubt.

The 211 Stetson location might be the best valued gym in Chicago. The space per guest is surely one of the best in the city. The amenities are as good as anywhere, and I’ve found that they beat the competition when it comes to the little details. Their towels are top notch and that’s important. The place is very clean and they do a great job of maintaining a clean and neat environment throughout the day. The space is laid out well, it’s very accessible and open in the gym and the lockeroom. Staff is friendly, helpful and personable. The food is good, the kitchen knows what they’re doing and they actually care about guests. The basketball court has a classic vibe, and it is surrounded by windows which makes it one of the most enjoyable places to hoop on a beautiful day. The pool is great and it has like 10 lanes. I’ve almost never seen more than 2 lanes occupied so it makes for a pleasant time to relax and take laps or get some work in. My favorite part about the place is the rock-climbing wall, and it was the reason I joined the gym. If you like top-rope climbing, this will be the reason you join the gym. After being a long-time member of two other 5-star gyms in the city, I’m very happy with my current membership at LSF. I am not one to write reviews like this but if you’ve read this far than you know why I’m writing this. Honestly, I’m second guessing myself a bit now— on the one hand I want to give the club a great review that they deserve, but I also don’t want anyone to join here because I love the low number of guests.... oh well. This place is great 5/5 stars.

We wanted to play squash as a tourist visiting Chicago. On the phone they told us it's 10$ for a court and 5$ to rent a racket. Arriving there they charge us another 35$ (per person!!!) as admission phee for a whole day access to the gym. Trying to explain we are not interested in the fitness part... We had to pay the admission anyway. So from 20$ to 80$ for an hour of squash... in a court that isn't super well maintained either. I'm not going there again.

Great staff. Large pool. Place overall is huge. Weight equipment is however very limited. Climbing wall is high, but small and open limited hours. Overall this place has tons of variety but isn't great for anyone or anything specifically. The price also skirts close to upscale gyms with beautiful and modern amenities. This place looks and feels from the nineties. I enjoy coming, but there will definitely be those better served getting as much gym from somewhere cheaper like LA Fitness or better enjoy a slightly more expensive but much more modern and well finished experience like Equinox.

Paul is absolutely wonderful! He's so welcoming and accommodating. The first time really talking to him was when I was over charged and I demanded to speak to a manager. He calmly listened and didn't hesitate to amend everything. From then on, he has remembered my name and always greets with a smile! Such a great guy. Thanks lake shore for having an amazing team and facility!!!

The amenities and location for this club are crazy good and I may actually be spoiled for other lesser gyms - hello ice cold face towels! But there are down sides as well. This club is fairly new so it didn't have a ton of other members during the time that I was there, but once people figure out it's there I can see the membership going up to crazy levels. But the most glaring problem is that THEY ARE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS! How can a gym not be open on the day I feel guiltiest about all of the stuff I ate all week? This wasn't working for me but maybe it would work for someone who lived downtown and yet doesn't have a building with a gym.

It's a spectacular gym in dire need of renovating. 6 stores, with a rich climbing wall in the middle, tons of weights and out dated cardio equipment. They even have pickle ball courts now. Really nice people work there, just needs some love

Like many who go here I was brought in and stay because of Paul. I moved from a new city and his friendly genuine disposition made LSF feel like home. Despite changing jobs and living 30 min away I never thought about changing gyms which is a true testament to the inviting nature of people like Paul and the atmosphere in general. If you're looking for a gym/safe haven there's nowhere better. More importantly though, I'd highly recommend asking for Paul Giuntoli to help get you situated. He's absolutely phenomenal!

Been a member at LSF for over a year and would highly recommend joining if you need a gym! LSF goes above and beyond with covid precautions and you will never feel like it is overcrowded, as this gym is massive. Personal trainers here are next level and will work with your schedule and actually get you results. My personal trainer (Nick) has gotten me in the best shape I have ever been! Each staff member is beyond courteous and pleasant to work with. From different classes, rock climbing, squash, golf (and more) there is something for everyone, this is truly the best gym in the city.

Injuries and unclear, inflexible cancellation terms led to me paying for months I could not use gym. Speaking with the office about possible solutions did not help - they cared much more about charging me than keeping me on as a client. Nice gym otherwise, but unsatisfied with how they manage things.

One of the best gyms downtown. The place is huge so there is always social distancing and I feel very safe. They are taking every reasonable precaution. The staff, coaches and instructors strike the perfect balance between taking their jobs in fitness very seriously yet at the same time fostering camaraderie and community.

I've been a member of LSF at the Illinois Center for almost 3 years now. They have amazing facilities (climbing, weights, cardio, pool, classes, rooftop pool, restaurant.... the list goes on!) and their personal training is awesome. When COVID19 hit, I thought for sure I would stop going to the gym because of safety concerns. I reached out to Luis to find out my options. He is so responsive, and he kindly let me know that I could easily cancel, hold, or continue my membership, whatever would suit my needs, and they would support me in that. They are very understanding of the circumstances going on right now and I didn't feel any pressure to re-join. However, I decided to come into the gym and try it out a couple times, just to see if I was comfortable. They have a day rate for members who hold their memberships that you can use for this purpose. People were wearing face coverings while working out, and everything was really spaced out (unsurprising, as the facility is HUGE, another big plus of this gym especially now). Luis went out of his way to allay my safety concerns, and make me feel comfortable once again at the gym. I'm so happy that I have the opportunity to go back to the gym now, without any pressure, and to feel safe doing so. I know that if I start to feel uncomfortable, they will be more than glad to pause or even cancel my membership as my safety and the safety of their members is the top priority of LSF staff. It's been a really great 3 years with LSF!

The equipment is well maintained and the staff is nice. They have all the standard cardio/weight equipment as well as a great functional fitness area. The locker rooms aren't the best but they get the job done. The trainers are also great, as they should be given the high prices. I really like my trainer; he's knowledgeable and really cares about helping me reach my goals. The people complaining about the 30-day cancellation notice didn't pay attention when signing up... They are very clear about this policy and a lot of gyms work the same way.

The facilities are quite breathtaking. You have a sense of human dimension on each floor but there are 7 floors, so it is a very big club with a wide offering. My main reason for being a loyal member is the squash program, led by Luis Sanchez. He is very welcoming, an excellent coach with much wisdom, and a good organizer so that we feel that there is a true community of squash players. Bravo Luis.

It's a very good gym. The only issue is that usage of the basketball courts for ... basketball is too limited. Pictures in this review section are a perfect example: there are no pictures of people playing basketball on the basketball court. There are either pictures of the empty court or of people playing pickleball. Weird.

I’ve been a member here for 1.5 years and can say with certainty that it’s well worth the money. I feel completely safe coming here during COVID because I see how hard the staff are working at cleaning and sanitizing EVERYTHING on a very frequent basis. This gym has great equipment (I mostly use the barbels and weight plates) and there is plenty of space. While I don’t take advantage of this, the gym is constantly thinking of parent nights where there’s babysitting services, movie nights on the rooftop deck, and other mixers. Overall, would definitely recommend.

This gym is a total rip off operation. I was told I had a 3 month commitment and cancelled the first day of the last month. Today, a month later I just received another $155 dollar charge, and was told that I signed a contract and there was nothing that could be done. This company does not care about anyone; they just want to collect their money. I literally paid my commitment without using the gym very much during the time, and had no problem doing so. Customer support just referenced a contract that the salesperson never mentioned or told me to be aware of. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! Edit: Guess who tried to charge my account an additional one month later after my bank refunded the charge as FRAUD! Then, they tried to charge my card for additional funds because Chase said their charge was Fradulent and charged without consent. The management at the gym also approached a friend of mine who referred me to the gym to request I take this review down because "It makes them look bad." Well... if you had handled the situation professionally instead of acting in a way that Chase Bank deemed FRADULENT enough to return my funds then I wouldn't have had to post this review. Now, I have to shutdown my bank account, and transfer instead of being charged an additional $30 to block their charges. Just want everyone to know what type of business they are and how they operate.

Hate to post this negative review but LSF IC management has given me no other alternative. I'll gladly write a positive post when they resolve an ongoing issue with refunding me $112 x 2. I canceled my membership in March when it was clear gyms are NOT safe places to be during a pandemic. They (Jarrett Brown specifically) have fought tooth and nail with me over email and phone insisting that I owe them July and August dues. Note that I REsubmitted a cancellation form in July and they still charged me for August, despite me explaining again 1) I canceled in March 2) the email reminders they sent me went to an old email address + they did not call members making them aware of when they were reinstating charges). If you are dealing with similar issues, email: Jason Mahan: [email protected], Jarrett Brown: [email protected], Billing Office: [email protected], and Business Office: [email protected].

I was a member of Lakeshore Fitness from September 2018 through this past year. While the club was great, they have been treating cancellations in light of COVID very poorly. I knew I would leave Chicago in July so in March during the pandemic, I asked them to cancel my membership. They subsequently have tried to charge me for the months of July and August even though I moved to California as of June 30. While they have stopped trying to charge me for August, they are persistent on trying to collect for the month of July. I don't even live in Chicago anymore and don't have a job because of the pandemic. I do not want to be charged for something that I cant even access and the business office and the manager Peter Canellis continues to try to collect the money from me. I have asked multiple times for them to reverse the charges but they just ignore my emails. This is one of the most unprofessional things I have had to deal with in light of the pandemic and I would not suggest joining this gym. They are unprofessional and ignore members at the first sign of a problem.

Horrible management exploits members with unfair billing practices. I tried cancelling my membership in April during the lockdowns, but never received a response from management. After being surprised with a charge for July dues on my credit card, I followed up with management yet again to finally actually cancel my membership, and was told that not only did I have to pay July dues, I would have to pay August dues in accordance with their "1 month notification" cancellation policy (which they do not tell you about when you sign up). So after trying to cancel my membership months ago, I am being charged two additional months of dues. Management did not even respond to emails asking for more information. I am extremely disappointed with how unprofessional, unorganized, and mismanaged this organization is. If you're looking for a gym downtown, I'd recommend finding one with competent management that will at least respond to your emails.

Before things had escalated with the virus, I had talked to Peter, the membership director about getting a membership until the end of May. We quoted a price. My final question to him was that if they close the gym due to the increasing spread of the virus, would he refund me? He stopped responding. I called the next day to talk to membership, and they said that Peter would get back to me with an answer that day. No response. Basically, he gave me the impression that all this gym cares about is hooking you in and taking your money. The second I asked if they would issue a refund for the days the gym was actually closed, that communication got completely cut off and he just ignored me. This is my experience with this gym, and to me, this is a red flag.

I would never send my worst enemy there! They are so rude and disrespectful! I went there wanting to show my niece and son a great time and they treated me like I was a second class citizen!

I am a member because of squash. Luis Sanchez, who runs the squash program at Lakeshore, can connect you with other players on your level, and/or give you lessons if you want to brush up on your squash skills, up your game, or are new to squash. Luis is an excellent coach, he is very committed to growing the sport and goes above and beyond to make sure the squash community stays active and connected. The squash crowd at Lakeshore is welcoming and friendly and I recommend giving it a try!

While I am specifically mentioning Nick because I train with him, Crystal, Jason, Bob and others have made this club so easy to come to during the pandemic and risk mitigations involved in making the club safe. Nick is kind enough to work with someone not in their prime, but pushes to increase fitness, strength and balance. His easy way has made training something to look forward to!

🫤 I've been a member of Planet Fitness for a while, and while the gym itself is nice and the staff are generally friendly and helpful, the chronic issue of the gym not opening on time has become a major frustration. On a recent Sunday morning, I arrived at 7:45 am, expecting the gym to be open as adv...

🫤 You get what you pay for. There’s no AC, pretty dirty everywhere, machines are constantly broken, treadmills are from 1992. They took away all dumbbells. It’s bizarre that a gym doesn’t have dumbbells available. No hair dryer in the locker room. Most of the members are ignorant, they don’t wipe mach...
