Gym needs a major upgrade of their equipment. Treadmills just stop/slip while your walking/running on them. Ellipticals grind and scrape. Almost blew out my knee this morning. Flat bench pad falls off the stand. The whole bench wobbles. SUPER DANGEROUS. There’s been a trip hazard on the floor in the free weight area for months where part of the floor is coming up. Staff is usually on their phone or talking to each other. I’ve submitted tickets, spoke to staff and emailed customer service. No changes. I realize this is a discount location but as a member of XSport since 2001 this is the worst I have ever seen at this place. When concerns are brought up they laugh or state “ya we know”. I would not recommend signing up here unless you do a thorough review of the equipment. It’s all WELL PAST its safe use. EDIT: THIRD DAY IN A ROW A TREADMILL HAS STOPPED MID-WORKOUT. THIS PLACE IS GOING TO END UP WITH SERIOUS ISSUES. EDIT: 04-05-22. Flat benches still not fixed. The entire bench shifts when you lift the bar off. Just a matter of time until the bolt snaps and injures or kills someone.

Big, clean gym. Plenty of machines & weights. The staff is very friendly & they know the people that walk in and greet them by name. Several services offered like classes & personal training. The group fitness room when not in use can be used to do workouts and the room is full of mirrors.

I finally cancelled my membership. you guys never fixed anything and you're stealing money from hard working people. You don't hold the clients accountable and you don't even hold yourself accountable. the gyms a mess and that's every gym in this city. the machines were always broken and you would just put a bandaid over it. thank goodness they opened up a bunch of LA fitnesses in the area. Your reign of trash is over. get it together or else you'll be seeing more members depart this gym.

I have been lied to and scammed by this location. I used to be regular member (started working out in march 2017, ended membership in 2019, then returned in the summer of 2021 for a few months as I was at college). I was told when I signed back up in the summer of 2021 that my account would automatically FREEZE in August, as the associate told me! It seems like he was working for a commission or something, because this is clearly not the case. Now, I have tried to cancel my account THREE TIMES. I have contacted corporate, and they told me the 20th of December that my account had been closed and that I would receive a partial refund. Guess what? I just got charged by this XSport two days ago.

I signed up for a membership in 2020 around the spring time. $10 a month sounded so affordable. Only a few months later, around June or July, Xsport charged me around $120 which they told me was a standard fee that they charge all members once a year. I don’t remember ever seeing that fee mentioned in the pamphlets or when I signed up. This makes a lot of sense because that technically makes the membership $20 a month for a year, which is what other popular gyms such as Planet Fitness tend to charge. I just wanted to share this because even if you only want it for a few months and you plan on cancelling, watch out. That admin fee might strike + ruin your planned gym savings

Update: I found out her name is China. There is this African American woman staff who is rude. She has braids and I think her name is Cheenah. I’ve heard the way she speaks to customers and how sometimes she just walks away when a customer is approaching the front desk. Hoping that I never need her help. Other staff are nice, but not her.

I was surprised when I read the post from the person below me. I thought I was the only person that had to deal with the African-American woman that sometimes works the front desk. She is extremely rude and very ignorant as well. She is either in the way (physically blocking people working out so she can sit on the 'grass' floor and socialize) or pretending to be busy so she doesn't have to help anyone. I honestly doubt she does much at the desk to begin with, but even when she's the only one there she'll look up and then ignore you. Why hasn't she been fired yet?

As of 9/13/2022, I took the Tuesday’s 9am Total body class, which is some how a cycling class but instructed by a woman named Sabina C. I’ve never taken a class where I’ve witnessed an instructor being rude to their class!!! Both times I attended her class I witnessed her being rude and making smart remarks during the class both in English and Spanish. She acts as if she thinks she is better than everyone. The second class I attended was it!!! On this day, I watched Sabina yell in Spanish to someone new, that attended for the first time (Mind you, not everyone can go at the same pace as the person teaching, or even perhaps as hard, especially for a first timer…. ), soon after being yelled at the lady stopped the workout, started crying and left. I left around the same time since I wasn’t gonna be supporting any type of behavior like that and found the woman crying up with a friend she took the class with… I wasn’t the only one who left the class, maybe 4 of us and I could tell that even though the instructor was speaking in Spanish, it was very rude and confrontational. I didn’t understand but once someone translated what happened I couldn’t believe how rude Sabina was. And this was in front the whole class. I will never support anyone with an attitude like this. This is not okay. Xsport needs to hire more professional instructors. She should not be working here or ANYWHERE with an attitude like this. Unacceptable!!!! Encourage your damn class not make fun of someone! I won’t be coming back to any of her classes

Not sure if this chick still works here but I walked in on a Saturday morning to inquire about the gym. Lady at the desk was clearly hungover and wearing sunglasses inside clear tell. Young African American woman. Proceeds to weight shame me to try and sell me a membership. I never told her my goal was to lose weight (even if it was) and she just has the audacity to say don’t you want to lose weight? Don’t think people who fat shame should be working at a gym. And apparently she was a manager? Side note I’m overweight but I’m not that big. Anyways that doesn’t matter. Customer service was nonexistent and completely unprofessional. Obviously didn’t join after that experience.

It's a fine facility, but they need to be called out on their cancellation policy. A place like this, you'd pretty much expect them to make you jump through some hoops to cancel, but the sheer moxie of making you send a certified letter to their HQ to cancel deserves to be called out. If they are shameless enough to do this (right on their website!), you have to wonder about the ethics of the rest of their operations, can we really expect them to keep the place hygenically clean, etc? Seems pretty implausible.

As a premium membership holder, I am very displeased at the current situation at this facility. It is 10pm and there are small children in this gym occupying machines, and as a paying member I want to use them. The gym is totally full at this time, the wait is already long enough to have to wait for children on top of that. These little ones are like 8 years old and I don’t think there should be any children here this late or at all. They can’t use equipment properly, and while mom or dad are getting their good workout in, the kids are playing with equipment that Paying members need.

Recently while I was with my guest, I was helping her work out. I was approached by Steve, he said he was a fitness manager there. He told me if I continued to show her how to work out he threatened to terminate my gym membership and he told us we had to leave. He said he was watching us. When I asked him why he was watching us, he changed up and said he was walking around the gym. He also claimed I was a trainer and there was a transaction. None of that is true and nothing like that happened. There were other people in the gym showing other people how to work out and he did not tell them to leave. I feel like this was racially motivated because we were the only black people working out together in the gym. He also tried to force my guest to get a membership and sign up for personal training.

I came to this establishment for a few days under my friend, Tiffany's membership (included unlimited guest). The location was on irving park road in Chicago. Today, we had encountered a fitness manager named Steve. Steve informed my friend he was watching us while we were working out. He also assumed and reported my friend was a personal fitness trainer and she was not allowed to guide me (a guest) to learn how to utilize the machines. We were also told that I had to either purchase a membership or leave the premises. We were taken aback with his comments and statements. Firstly, my friend was not a personal fitness trainer and secondly, she is paying for a premium package that included bringing a guest. We were the only two African American women at that location and were believed to be racially profiled. As a guest experiencing this makes me questioned if I want to purchase anything from them. This racial profiling and targeted group needs to cease.

People are nice & interactive. When I signed up I did personal trainer & the $50 membership because I thought I would get the LED facial but it still broken. So the membership was a waste of money for me. I told them I will only be here for 3 months. So the yearly fee they let me use for September. I still got charged $60 and cooperate said only the store can refund… it will apparently return in a month… I was charged the $10 cancel fee even though they knew when I was leaving. Cooperate gave me that back 7-10 days…. Just too many inconveniences for me to fix. I would say Nicole was a great personal trainer $300 for 8 sessions which by the way the system only let me do like 2 every 4 weeks because of payments so you are better off paying the whole thing at once? but go with the lowest priced membership tbh.

Joined yesterday (paid in full for 1 year) and went this morning for my first visit. I’m 49 and all the machines are foreign to me. Checked in and said it’s my first visit and that I’d need some help using the machines. They looked at me like I had three heads and asked for their first born. Left in under 3 minutes. Way to squash hopes and steal money guys. Well done.

The guy with long hair needs to be little more respectful. 9/10 times nobody checks the screen when I check in but once I just walked in and forgot to put my keycard for check in and this long hair guy called me out by shouting and asking me to check in. What does he think of himself? I could have called him out on the spot for doing what he did but didn’t just because there were a-lot of people and I didn’t wanted to create a scene. Teach that employee how to treat the customer!

They do need to get a better water fountain station, at least colder water and to get a water bottle fill up. The employees don’t harass you anymore about gym memberships and personal training sessions. Everyone is there to workout and leave.

Editing my review because I thought it was the Express location. Yikes…awkward. Portage location is way better in comparison due to more available and functioning equipment. My only qualm is there is only 1 squat rack. It would be great if they added another. Otherwise, everyone puts weights back and keeps the gym fairly clean. Staff is friendly. There are definitely more machine options for specified muscle groups which is also nice. The parking here is tight, so be prepared to flinch a little when you park.

Don’t ever get a membership here. The employees lie to you over the phone.both corporate and the Irving park employees will hang up on you without helping you or guiding you in the right direction to help you. Please check your account after you cancel because they will still charge you. And you can’t cancel over the phone so don’t move to another state and than think you can cancel this part is an update) the disrespect is all the way up to their HR they will listen to you and then make condescending comments to you after you are just trying to air out your grievances. I suggest you have someone well verse in legal law when doing business with your business. Which is sad because for something as small as a gym membership you will be legal representation means you shouldn’t do business with them

I've been a loyal member of this gym for over 10 years, but the quality has been declining steadily for some time now. It's time for Xsport management to step up and make some upgrades! The chairs are filthy, there are patches all over the floor, and the wall has been in disrepair for over two years.

Me and other members have waited for someone to open the gym. Today and last week we waited for 45 minutes. It's ridiculous. We all pay and some of us don't have time to wait because we work. Is the manager even aware of this?

Even with the new cameras ( 2 new cameras?) being installed. Cars are still being broken into. Just awhile ago like 4:30ish pm I saw a car leave with a broken window. I honestly wouldn't mind paying an extra $5 for a security guard. It's hassle replacing the window. Not long ago my car was broken into as well. I heard there were 5 previously incidents before my car got broken into. I wonder how many cars since the new year to now have been broken into🤔🤔. Well the facility is nice. Just the parking lot situation sucks.

Weights aren't normally restowed, even during times when there are few people working out. Also, there's only one squat rack. Not horrible, but very small. Best for quick lifts with free weights - that is if they're actually on the racks where they're supposed to be. That's the only stuff you'll reliably be able to do with so little equipment.

I usually go to the Park to walk and run. Depending the time at night I always ask my boyfriend to come pick me up. This is the second time I went to export fitness by the portage park. The second time I asked if I can wait in the building. I wasn’t going to do anything but sit and wait. But after 30 minutes they told me to leave. So I went outside to wait and then a random person goes in he had his gym bags so I thought he is going to work out. Turns out he wasn’t. So they kicked him out even called the cops. The moment they saw me outside one of the man asked me if I am with him, and told both of us to get away from the building.I politely told him that I was waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up. It’s unfortunate that for our safety we can’t ask anyone for help. I wasn’t going to do anything but sit and wait.

Solid gym with not a whole lot in the way for a base membership but I only pay 10 dollars a month and it gives me access to most things like free weights, a nice cardio selection and then a nice stretching room. Also the staff are so so. You have some who actually service the gym regularly and some who just sit on their phones and do nothing. They are also pretty okay about telling people to keep their masks on so thats greatly appreciated.

Horrible experience with employees. Either aren’t trained correctly or simply want to take your money. I was lied into buying the annual membership by an employee. Employee let me know that I would NOT be charged again after the money I chose to deposit THAT day, yet I just got charged with $424 this morning… I was told I could pay any amount on this day, I chose to pay $50, and that moving forward I wouldn’t be charged again until next year. I was already satisfied with my membership and thought I was getting a better deal but I guess not. Manager went ahead and canceled my membership and let me know that it’d take 7-10 business days to get my payment back. Truly disappointed in this location.

I started coming here last year, a friend highly recommended this gym to me and brought me as a guest. (For anyone curious about the amenities, staff and personal training- this review may help you out.) The staff here made me feel very welcomed and are extremely knowledgeable and genuine. The best thing I ever did was listen to Hope and try out the personal training. Kalon did a great job helping identify my strengths and opportunities in just one session, without making me feel pressured to sign up. I used to work in sales so I can always appreciate when I don’t feel pushed to make up my mind with contracts but I’m gonna tell whoever is reading this right now that it’s worth every penny and drop of sweat- it will change your life. I was happy with the professionalism and motivation I received from that trial session so I began my training at the end of last year with Jason… Xsport is very lucky to have him. Jason, thank you for pushing me & helping me achieve ALL of my goals we set prior to starting our training! You are very knowledgeable, professional and fun to work with! I have grown a lot as person throughout this journey with your help! Check it out y’all- I walked into this gym I had NO idea how to use the machines and weights before I started my training, I was overweight and had low self esteem once upon a time and now I’ve successfully lost nearly 40 pounds and have people asking me to train them! I used to be the person who ran to an elliptical or treadmill hoping for results only weight training could get. *Thats right put in work, eat yo salad no dessert* I’d recommend paying the extra money to go to other locations and use their amenities, too. I really love the massage bed. It’s a game changer for mental health. Thanks for all the hard work you all put in at this location and I hope you can get all of the bogus reviews removed from people who were upset at your temporary hours put in place to protect us during uncertain times. Great variety of machines as well. Blessings to all for a happy and healthy journey. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3 stair climber machines, tons of treadmills, almost every weight lifting machine has a double in a different area of the gym. The kids seem to like the play room if you're in need of a sitter while you workout. Gym etiquette usually on point, friendly staff. I've only tried the yoga class so far, but overall I'm a fan of this place. Parking can be tight at peak times

I really do love this gym! I've been an XSport member for many years now. And I've tried out a lot of different locations on the North side but by far Portage Xsport is the best. Their staff is always welcoming and positive. As gyms go it's pretty clean. If there's equipment that is not operating correctly I'll notify them and they get on it ASAP. I just wish that they had a rowing machine that was accessible to all gym members not just Xit members.

One of the better XSports in the city & it's one of the basic membership ones... It's cleaner and better upkept than lots of the "premium ones". I rarely see any machines out of order either, which is an impressive because it's smaller than many of the other XSports but still has strong traffic. A/C and water fountains could use some maintenance (currently) but besides that, it's one of my top picks to go to 💯.
