We booked this excursion through Royal Caribbean on our Cozumel day. First we had to take a ferry from Cozumel to the mainland. We then met our tour guide and boarded a Mercedes van. We then drove to Chechen Itza, it took about 2 hours. So about 3 hours in all to get there. Snacks were provided. This was a wonderful experience. Our guide kept us entertained the entire way out there. He was truly a Mayan history buff. He loved his job. The temples are amazing. They had an incredible understanding of mathematics and astronomy. It’s truly worth the adventure to get out there and see them.

Really good. Incredible place and generally set up well. Don’t get a tour from the people outside the entrance as it’s double what the price is inside. Just after you have gone through ticket barrier. We paid 1000 peso for private tour for two people.

This is one of the seven wonders in the world and is amazing. The structure is well preserve. The whole location, this Mayan city is amazing and it brings you back to see how admirable this civilization was. Definitely a place to visit. It can be hard on little kids and elderly, however, don't get discourage just prepare accordingly. Definitely get plenty of water as it is outdoors and very hot.

During the day it's wonderful, but during the night is breathtaking. Every Sunday you can take the chance to walk in the ruins during the night and Enjoy the magical light show around the Maya history ( 30 minutes duration circa ). The availability is reduced, so I suggest to book well in Advance for your tickets.

We didn't want to wait in long line...got us a 50 minute tour guide. He was great! Could have gotten an hour and 1/2 long tour but that was too long for us! Our guide did a great job explaining everything to us!! His English was understandable!! Then he let us roam the place on our own! I can't imagine that era people being able to use the constellations to make that building accordingly to their calendar!!! And for there to be 3 in one!!!!too cool!!! Too smart!!!! Make sure you have lots of American dollar bills. So much would have been just a $1 if we had brought $1 with us!! All we had was pesos!! If you don't have a hat?!?! You will need one!!! Buy it in the town right before the ruin!!! Cheap...$5...we paid at the entrance $25!!!

Just go. Stay wherever you can nearby and just go. Get a tour guide so you know what the heck you're looking at. There's a lot to see, bring serious sun protection and water. Be respectful and don't leave anything behind. Do the clapping thing 👏 in front of the Castillo so you can hear the sound of the quetzal!

I personally loved this place. Keep in mind you'll enjoy this if you have a tour guide explaining the history behind everything. I personally bought my tickets through an agency (around $65) and it was worth it because they picked me up from my hotel in Cancun and drove me to the pyramid and then took me back.

What an amazing place and the history just wow! I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit one of the seven wonders of the world. I enjoyed hearing the history, definitely worth getting a tour guide for this. Thank you to our guides Raul and Giselle for making this trip fun, informative and memorable!

This is a must see for a trip to Mexico. It is HOT HOT HOT. Bring an umbrella and water. Only water is allowed in, no food or other drink. They do have a bar and restaurant along with shops. There are vendors everywhere, we were warned by our guide that not everything is authentic and vendors will try to catch you by offering you to blow a jaguar whistle, then make you pay for it or they will tell you only 1 Mayan dollar (there is no Mayan dollar) then overcharge. Make sure to follow paths into the non main areas as there are ruins everywhere. The earlier you arrive the better for heat. If you can buy your tickets ahead do it so you don't wait in line. To bring in a go pro you need to pay a 50 peso fee so make sure you have that. If you don't go with a tour, make sure to research all the cool echo effects in the ballgame yard and temple so you can try them.

Went with a Cancun Adventure tour guide that picked us up at our hotel. David was great as our guide. There are a lot of ruins to see throughout the archeological area. Also a lot of pushy vendors selling the same souvenirs. Would give 5 stars except for all the pushy vendors. I don't agree that they are inside the site selling their stuff.

Very hot and sunny and lots of vendors trying to sell you trinkets. It is hard to find water once you are passed the maingate. The ruins are amazing and the story is very interesting but there are lots of distractions.

A wonderful glimpse into history. Entrance to the area costed around 600pesos (about 30USD). Unfortunately, since its been listed as one of the new 7 wonders of the World, its not possible to climb the stairs, nor to go inside the main 'pyramid' (there is another temple constructed within it). Expect a lot of tourists, as well as souvenir merchants. Sundays are free for locals, expect even bigger crowd.

Priceless memories of one of the new 7 wonders of the world. Very hot! Bugs weren't an issue in May. Bring and/or drink plenty of water. Expect to walk. Amazing sights and very good tour guides.

Red the books, study the history, get a guide and witness this amazingly preserved piece of ancient history. You won’t be disappointed. Even amongst the crowds you’ll find solitude in the breathtaking beauty and mystique of this archaeological wonder.

Dont like that you have to buy two tickets to get in 1. for the state 2. to actually get in. There are a lot of vendors everywhere and a lot of guides before you get in. I actually made it for the last hour, and it was empty and was able to take some good pictures without a lot of people.

It’s an amazing place, one of the wonders of the world, you cannot but the tickets online so you must do the line, if you go before 11am the line is 10-15 min, after 12 could be more than 30 min, the price is 25-30 usd and it’s worth it

  • 4/5 Kimberly E. 8 months ago on Google
Bring an umbrella! It's very hot with very little shade. It was very crowded and loud. I highly recommend going with a guided tour group so that your tickets are pre-purchased. This gets you in faster and avoids the long lines. There are a lot of vendors there who constantly yell at you. That can be off-putting. It's helpful to have a tour guide who can give you the oral history

Amazing Mayan ruins. Our group booked with a tour company and our guide was wonderful and knowledgeable. Quite hot in August, so bring sun protection (sunscreen or umbrella) and plenty of water.

  • 5/5 Suelen C. 8 months ago on Google
Like how can anyone say anything bad about this place? Definitely get a tour guide because they while give you so much knowledge on the Mayan culture. Amazing! Incredible! Phenomenal! Truly the 7th wonder of the world! Please go see it, especially on March 21 or September 21 for the equinox!

There is plenty of shade around the grounds for you to sit down and avoid the sun. There are market stalls all around the grounds for you to buy souvenirs. They start setting these up at around 8-9 am. Many of the stalls consist of the same things and magnets are around 100 pesos which equals around £5. What an absolutely amazing experience to be able to see this beautiful archeological site. The best time to go is early in the morning to avoid the crowds, and it also avoids the peak of the sun too.

A must for all who visit Yucatan peninsula. Worth every bit of expense. Get there early to beat the rush and heat. Bring hydrating supplies and pesos to pay the least cost.

Beautiful place and the vendors aren't that aggressive. Get a nice tour guide so you will understand more of the history.

Felt surreal to see another wonder of the world up close. It was a truly lovely experience. If you're ever in Mexico please make sure you visit.

  • 4/5 Todd J. 1 year ago on Google
Nicely laid out, very famous ruins in Yucatan. However I felt there were too many vendor booths that slightly spoiled the experience. Otherwise it is a worthwhile trip, I would recommend attending in the morning so you beat some of the tour groups. Keep in mind if you are a Mexican national or if you have permanent residency you qualify for a discount for the entry fee.

  • 5/5 Tony H. 8 months ago on Google
Great experience definitely worth visiting. If you do some reading before you go to learn the history and cultural significance you don't need a guide. We did have a guide and it was nice getting some of the little bits of specialized information.

  • 5/5 Mathle L. 5 months ago on Google
Always amazing to learn how ancient monuments were built without tools and the how they were able to build by using the sun as their guide for building orientation. Very hot, sunscreen a must and rent an umbrella.

  • 5/5 Bob R. 5 months ago on Google
What a remarkable place. I'll never forget the experience of seeing it in person. Go with the early entry it's worth getting up at 3:00am.

  • 5/5 Paul M. 4 months ago on Google
Although busy it is a large enough site to not feel crowded. Would have loved to spend more time there. The vendors are a bit annoying but not too bad. Enjoyed looking at their crafts but wondered what was mass produced.

  • 5/5 Noshin H. 4 months ago on Google
Truly a magnificent wonderer of the world - not just a stunning piece of art - build with so much knowledge of math, and physics that is mind blowing. A must see place for history lovers. Impressive to say the least the capability and knowledge of Mayan civilization. Forever in awe of their values, believes and way of living …

  • 5/5 Axel S. 7 months ago on Google
Great to see it in person. Definitely an impressive building! Make sure to arrive early as you will get the chance to have some beautiful pictures from the pyramid with only a few of other people on them. The pyramid will be the first building you will approach starting from the official entrance.

Awesome experience with our tour guide. I really do recommend to bring sun screen and a hydro flask bottle to keep your water cold. It’s really humid and hot. I do also recommend to visit this place. It has a lot of history behind it all.

  • 5/5 Liri A. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful place! Worth visit. I recommend to go with a guide because hearing about the history is a big part of the experience. Better to go on morning or afternoon when its less hot.

  • 5/5 Maria T. 2 years ago on Google
We took a tour from cancun. It was worth it. El Castillo is impressive. Being with a tour guide you get the full experience because you learn the history.

  • 5/5 Rodrigo Pérez B. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing place that everyone should know. Great way to learn about the Mayan culture. I recommend using a guided tour, the people that are there speak several languages If its too expensive you can download an app that has tours, there are several on google play and on istore (iphone). Get there early because it will be crowded after 10 am, but not crazy anyway.

  • 5/5 Claro G. 2 years ago on Google
Rodrigo is the VERY BEST TOUR GUIDE!!! Thank you for providing us all with the history of El Castillo and Chichen Itza!

  • 5/5 Kyle S. 1 year ago on Google
Such an amazing historical historical visit. Once you get through the vendors it is breathtaking. A tour guide isn't needed unless you can find a very knowledgeable one, but even the tiny bit of info a mediocre tour guide gives adds to the experience. Make sure to visit a cenote while in the area!

It is an impressive sight. Must see if you are in Yucatan. If course, the place is very crowded. And it is hot, much hotter than at the coast. Be sure to bring sun protection. If you ask yourself why everyone is clapping, try it in front of the stairs and took you'll hear the effect that sounds like a bird. Parking is available but it's a decent walk to reach the pyramid.

  • 5/5 Remi H. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing visit. Must visit for every traveler. To get a nice picture, make sure you are here early! Way before 9 o'clock is best. That's when the really crowds come in. You can only bring a video camera of you buy an extra video ticket for 50 pesos. Drones not allowed. They check bags at the entrance, can't bring it even if you promise not to use it. They have lockers you can rent to keep you equipment you're not allowed to bring We did find it quite expensive. 1100 pesos for entry for 2 people, 80 pesos for parking, 50 pesos for video ticket. And that's only entry. A guide or souvenir is added.

  • 5/5 Rafael G. 1 year ago on Google
Very good place to visit in Yucatan. The main pyramid (El Castillo) is impressive and there are other couple of structures very well conserved. The only bad thing is that there is no good signs to arrive there and find parking in the main parking lot is very difficult because they give priority to the tourism buses, if you get there by car, you will have to park in the outside community parking lots and then walk about 5 min to get to the tickets boots. However, the experience is very good.

  • 5/5 Jill E. 1 year ago on Google
This is a great place to see. A fine, well restored area of Mayan archeology from late in their building phase. DO NOT GO ON A SATURDAY! Natives and visitors by the thousands overrun the entire restored zone and most of the close by parking is for tour buses. It is a hot, half mile walk just to get to the entrance.

  • 5/5 Mike 2. 1 year ago on Google
It was an amazing experience to be there. VERY much a tourist trap however. Everything from charging for masks (just to walk through the gates then nobody wears them) to the flea market stands. The amount of vendors definitely detracted from the experience. We took a tour bus, I don't know how you would manage to go without one, parking looked horrendous, literally just random fields in the jungle. Then you can hire a guide at the gate.

  • 5/5 Vic 1 year ago on Google
A must go to we arrived early and managed to see all the highlights of the area before midday (very recommend to get there earlier). It was SO SO SO beautiful. The history of the place how they built the buildings/pyramids in the area was so interesting and loved to learn of the Mayans lived prior to colonization

  • 5/5 Cheryl G. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing experience! We booked the early access tour through Expedia. Marco and Rodrigo were excellent, informative guides. We enjoyed hearing about the history and culture of the Maya. Glad we got to experience the amazing acoustics. Might have to return and brave the crowds and heat to be there at the moment of equinox next time.

  • 5/5 Mary P. 1 year ago on Google
An incredible experience. The area is much larger than I anticipated with so many other ruins. Not to be missed and well deserved of it's place in the 7 new Wonders of the World. No need to buy tickets in advance. We were there before it opened at 8am and on a Sunday, the busiest day as Mexicans get free admittance and we only waited 10 mins to get a ticket. Lots of people say there's no shade and while that's the case around El Castillo, there's lots of shade in the overall area

  • 5/5 Borisz K. 2 years ago on Google
Avoid the “guides” outside they charge 2x prices then average. Buffets and restaurants also overpriced. Too many vendors try to sell their stuff for you. Good advice for them: Less “amigo amigo” if I’m interested in your product I’m gonna stop and check it out otherwise you can speak even cantonese to me I’ll wont buy nothing. Henceforth independently beautiful enviroment we really liked it.

  • 5/5 Amanda L. 11 months ago on Google
Our guide was fantastic! We got there right as they opened and it was perfect. There were very few people there and it gave us plenty of time to get some breathtaking shots! I highly recommend taking the drive out here to see this New World Wonder!

  • 5/5 Mescha K. 11 months ago on Google
What a great experience. No wonder it is one of the seven wonders of the world. So glad we were able to visit and explore the area. Our tour guide Gabriel was very knowledgeable and taught us so many things.

  • 5/5 Dusty B. 1 year ago on Google
It is truly an experience everyone should do. It's so amazing how we are still able to touch these ancient stones that once housed the Mayan city. Mysterious as they are the history is rich and there is lots of information to read. Many vendors litter the entire park, so come prepare to purchase at least 1 souvenir. Keep an eye out for the Jaguars 🐆
