Average food with extremely small portion sizes ... Total rip off !! Outdoor patio was good but it's not worth the tiny portion sizes and prices. I ordered the Lagman which was okay & my friend ordered the Golubtsy.

OWNERS NEVER PARTICIPATE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICS!!!!!!!!! People always try to provoke them, asking them which side they take and owner is always smiling and says that he is for world peace!!! I witnessed today how one man came in and abused the owner and demanded answers to who owns Crimea, when the owner responded I am for world peace this man stormed out of the deli saying that owner promotes war, what kind of bs is that? I have been a customer of Babushka for 25 years. The owners are the nicest people, that ALWAYS MEAN WELL and work so hard for their money. Don’t bring your politics dirty laundry into a wonderfully peaceful place. You are giving a review for food people, wake up. You don’t go to a Deli to discuss politics. All you should care about is, if the food is fresh, if the employees are nice and if they have good customer service skills! So answer to all of the above questions: Delicious fresh food, wonderful customer service, people are super nice, THIS IS THE BEST PLACE EVER!

Above and beyond. Having lived in San Francisco for over 15 years, NO Russian deli or restaurant comes even close. Staff is extremely friendly. The owner goes out of his way to show and explain all products. Fresh food, perfect selection, home-made bread, everything is only the best👌 Thank you!

This is my new favorite restaurant in Walnut Creek! Refreshingly unique in the area and stands right alongside Cinderella Bakery in SF. Incredible food, really friend staff, strong dessert game. Chicken Kiev, dumplings, and piroskis were some of the best I've had. Cool ambience, well lit space with chandeliers and Eastern European decorations. Great drinks selection too: Hungarian wines, Czech and Polish beers, Russian vodka, etc. Will absolutely be returning, highly recommend!

This restaurant is absolutely Walnut Creek’s best kept secret. All of the staff (but especially Varvara) are super sweet and attentive, the outdoor dining area is lovely, and the food is out of this world delicious! We can’t wait to bring our friends and family to this spot for dinner in the future. No wonder they were Michelin rated! My only issue is that when I eat here I get spoiled and any other restaurant kind of disappoints, LOL! But seriously, do yourself a favor. Walk into Babushka’s front door and ask their deli staff if you can dine at their outdoor patio for lunch or dinner! You won’t regret it.

This place is an absolute fire and the best in the Bay Area! My family and I have been going to this place for many years and we always feel at home. The owners are lovely and friendly people that take a great care of you and make sure that you get the best experience! I usually buy ready-to-eat meals and it’s always very delicious! I especially like their salads and pastries. They have so many different things at the store and everything is always super fresh and made with love. I definitely recommend this place!

I highly recommend Babushka for takeout, dinner, and catering. I've been a customer for a long time and I loved them. Recently we chose them to cater a wedding and it exceeded all our expectations. Varvara crafted a great menu that fit our budget and considered the preferences of all our guests, including people who weren't used to Ukrainian and Middle Eastern cuisine, and everyone adored it. Everything was prepared, delivered and served on time and beautifully. The pelmeni (chicken dumplings) was a hit, the plov was exquisite, and our vegetarians loved the eggplant caviar. Many thanks to the Chef for the amazing experience.

1st time eating Russian food and it was soooooo good! I highly recommend this place and they have excellent service!! They give you a starter which is the shot glass- pureed potato soup with whipped sour cream and garnish- that was heavenly! For my appetizer we ordered chicken pate and Kahchapuri- my favorite on the menu!- The entree I got Perlini ( I apologize if I botched that..) it's a pork and beef dumplings with whipped sour cream, delicious!! Dessert was lemon sorbet, sooo good! Five out of five stars!!! Excellent!! The alcohol beverage I believe was called "Babushka my Love" really good. It's a sweet drink. The soup is the Borscht- also really good! Highly recommend this place! Can't say it enough!

I really don’t care if russians don’t like americans, don’t own a shop in downtown walnut creek. I grew up with russians and i was so excited to get food. I was greeted with a disheartening face and was treating the scum of the earth. unlike most white people i don’t care if people from other countries are rude because it makes sense but you WHITE russians needs to get in check

We take out prepared foods and Eastern European products from this deli/cafe often. Love their stuff! Borodinsky bread, wieners, ice cream, cold cuts are great. You can often find Eastern European products here that are hard to find anywhere else.

This little unpretentious shop is a pearl! A large choice of European style sausage (knackwurst, smoked polish sausage, bratwurst and more) for all your gatherings and to go a levels over the regular hot dog or for a sauerkraut. Smoked fish and caviar are also available for a brunch bellini ❤️ I am not a sweet tooth but you are in for a treat at Babushka! A complete store for many European knick knacks and shelves products as well!

Just like Grandma makes it! Delicious, authentic Russian and Eastern European food. Friendly, helpful staff. Dine outside or take out. We will be back for more!

We went there I believe on Christmas day, and returned on January 15 to try the deli. We started with chicken liver pate spread on toasted brioche. Th pate is extremely smooth and creamy, one of the best I tasted, even if slightly sweet. I bought more during our trip to the deli, and will try the goose pate later. At the start of our dinner, I ordered a Fairytale Blossom cocktail, smooth Russian vodka, shaved ice and elderflower which was smooth with delicate flavors. I tend to dislike cocktails in general as tastes and sweetness tend to be overpowering but this is exceptional. I had in mind to order chicken Kyiv but changed it to Pelmeni, mine with beef and pork with a brothy sauce drizzled over them and surrounded by sour cream garnished with sprouts. Warm dumplings and cool cream. A very interesting combination of flavors and textures which, taken in combination with the Fairytale Blossom, bring up thoughts of wintry hikes. My wife had the rack of lamb, ordered medium rare. It is lightly seared and fatty bits were removed by the Chef. I have had poor experiences with lamb meat in the past, but this tasted great, the meat almost melting in your mouth. I also tried an Estonian beer which proved very satisfying, with light fruit tones but not sweet. The service is prompt and attentive and thankfully knowledgeable as I was unfamiliar with much of the menu. As for the food, Babushka is blessed with a Chef with a capital C.

Incredibly tasty and comforting food. First time here and everything was delicious. We started with the toasted rye bread and eggplant dip called baklajani. The bread was lightly toasted and so fresh and the dip was warm and delicious even though I typically do not care for eggplant. We also had the piroshkis with potato for the wife and beef for me. The buttery and flaky pastry was perfect with the rich flavored beef filling. One of the best filled puffed pastries I've ever had. The golden fish salad was also great. The capers hard boiled egg and the salmon roe made a great bite with the smoked salmon and greens. The pop of that salmon row and oily texture really worked well with the saltiness of the salmon and capers. The borscht was a first for me. It is a nice beet soup that is texturally pleasing with minced beets in a nice broth with a touch of cream to add richness and depth. For the main course I had the beef stroganoff. This has a nice piece of short rib that falls apart when cutting into it. The sauce with the mushrooms was delicious and the mash potatoes were the softest and creamiest potatoes I've had. They were so tasty when soaking up some of the sauce with each bite. My wife had the vareniki which is a potato dumpling with a garlic cream sauce and crispy shallots. This dish was like a potato filled ravioli that was so pillowy soft. The sauce was rich and savory with the crispy shallots adding a nice contrasting texture. Finally for dessert we had the hot chocolate cake. This cake takes 15 minutes or so before it is delivered to your table, but well worth it. The cake came out hot and super moist in the middle. Served with a berry and passion fruit sauce and vanilla ice cream. This was a great finish to our lunch. The only thing I would ask for is a bit more sauce on the plate to dip each bite in. With neither of us having much experience with Russian cuisine we were highly pleased with each dish. We will definitely recommend this place and look forward to coming back.

Pros: -Great bakery section, mainly cakes in bulk and piroshki Cons: - 10-15% more expensive than other Russian/Ukrainian groceries on average - borscht and shuba are excessively sweet, also the latter contains too much mayo and no onion. - do not sell common brands of frozen cherry pirogies in favor of their own overpriced ones

One of my favorite places to visit when in Walnut Creek. The market has amazing European products and their fresh baked pastries are just like Mama used to make!

A little pricey and their European produce selection is limited. Their in house made food is amazing. Tried their eggplant salad/spread it is the most delicious version of that dish ive ever had. Highly recommend them as a deli.

I with my family really love this place. We go very often to this place to buy different kinds of food. Their plov is very delicious. Recommend to all to try it. Also, we love their sweets, salads, and bakery😍. All products are of best quality, tasty, and fresh. You will not regret if you choose this place for shopping.
