La Vega Central Market is a totally unique experience for your trip to South America. It offer extensive arrays of vegetables and fruits grown in the Central Valley of Chile, not to mention all of the spices, nuts, fish, cheeses, meats, household cleaning supplies, tools, and gadgets, all found at the cheapest prices in Santiago and open seven days a week, 365 days a year. La Vega market is located near metro Puente Cal y Canto on the yellow line, in the comuna Recoleta. Not only is it a practical place to find the freshest foods at a great price, it is arguably one of the best cultural experiences in Santiago. In addition, you can get fresh fruit juices, sample an authentic Peruvian dessert, Suspiro Limeño, pick up a few 20-cent sopaipillas, fried pumpkin dough topped with spicy pebre, or salsa, or cool off with a refreshing mote con huesillo, a popular summertime beverage made from wheat and fresh peaches.

Easily one of my favorite places in Santiago. Amazing selection of fresh fruit and veggies (and there are butchers, fish mongers and dairy too if you want it) If you like to cook and are staying at a place with a kitchen, you won't want to miss this place. If not, it's still worth a visit to enjoy the lovely atmosphere, enjoy a typical Latin market experience and grab a fresh juice or a snack.

I buy vegetables and fruits only here, the choice is very large, prices are lower than in the supermarket. For example, 1 kilo bananas about 500 peso or 3 kilos for 1000 pesos 😁 and in the supermarket - about 1000 pesos for 1 kilo. In fact, in this market you can find everything. but you always need to keep eye of your pockets and wallet, there are many robbers , be careful

What an amazing market. Please make sure you find the food area. The restaurants do the best food in town. Keep some 400 pesos for the toilet thou, not free. I enjoyed walking around the vegetable and meat stalls, the spices, and a good place to watch people go by. A must whilst visiting Santiago.

……………….Its never a dull moment when you take time out to pay a visit to the fresh produce market in any part of the world whether to buy or just to observe and where you are met by a cornucopia of life's foods displayed in a kaleidoscope of different colours. Here is the place where people don’t come in their Sunday best but just in ordinary day to day cloths to serve the nation. Most of the time at these places you will by no means not discover a new type of fruit or vegetable that you have not ever seen in your own market in your home country. And your lungs are exposed to a new fragrance of all the fresh produce chucked together in one massive warehouse so the smell is not stale but fresh and new as every day new fruit and veg are brought here. Still there is a new smell to be experienced when you leave the stalls area on your way out where you encounter all the Skips filled with the fermented rotting wasted and withered garbage that is foul-smelling yet another kind of experience that is a must to do when visiting the market places of the world. One other reason for our visit here was that we were told by our daughter-in-law that the best and genuine Venezuelan empanadas were to be had here from VENEZOLANOS Gourmet en la Vega so we just had to come around and try them, They are made fresh-lii while you wait. The flavours of the fillings on offer were among other Queso(cheese), Pabellon, Operado, Mechada, Domino, chicken(pollo), dogfish(cazon) The dogfish we just had to savour and it was good even the meat-ii ones were very good, we also had the Tequeno de queso (cheese croquettes) enhanced with a coriander dip. There is a whole row of different food-stalls here to choose from. We real-lii enjoyed our visit here………………..

This market is full of locals all selling meat and vegetables. It's hectic and crowded with people always on the move. Overall, I felt pretty safe with moving through the crowds and there is security at certain spots throughout it. There is not as much food ready to eat as I thought, mainly raw meat and vegetables.

An absolute must-see when you’re in Santiago. The perfect opportunity to buy delicious fruits. It’s a lot cheaper here than in the supermarket.

Anything and everything you could possibly want you can find here. It is a huge market with hundreds of local vendors selling locally grown produce. They also have meats cheeses dried goods etc. They're also some food and drink stands where you can have a breakfast or lunch while you are here. As it does get very crowded be very aware of your surroundings keep your phone in your pocket and watch out for pickpocketers.

This is the place to find the best prices and quality for food, although you must look around at the many stands available.

Close to, but more local than Marcado Central. The ready food section is smaller but the prices are really good. Some areas around the market is a bit dirty and smelly. It's a good place to pick up produce and grab a quick bite to eat.

Very packed market. Price are either per unit, per 1/4 Kg or 1 kg. Compared to those from near by countries such as Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, this one I wish there were more street food vendors.

Huge market with anything you could be looking for! My favorite part was the Fruit & Veggie part of the market (accessible from Racoleta), but I went there again a week later and found out that that is only a tiny part of it! The deeper into the market you go, the more you find, including housewares, meat and fish, dried sundries, and so much more. Give yourself time to explore. There's no bartering, but you can ask for different quantities than posted (i.e. ask for 1/4 kilo of raspberries instead of having to buy a whole kilo). Take smaller bills, as small stall owners often have trouble rounding up change for large bills.
