The Morning Trail is a popular uphill hike linking the Hong Kong University area to Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island. This 2.7 km trail basically follows Hatton Road and ascends around 100 metres before linking up with Lugard Road. It then follows a flat semi circle path around the south side of the Peak until reaching Victoria Gap - the popular sightseeing area where you find the Peak Tower and Peak Galleria. The Morning Trail is well-paved, a steady uphill route through wooded and rural areas with a fair amount of vegetation. It lacks the impressive viewpoints you will find at higher elevations along Lugard Road but is a good opportunity for a bit of exercise for those planning to visit the Peak. There are some interesting heritage attractions along the Morning Trail potentially worth stopping to see. These include the 1903 City of Victory Boundary Stone situated along the trail, around 400 metres north of Kotewall Road. War Enthusiasts may want to stop at Pinewood Battery, which is around half way up the trail. Here you can see and learn about war relics left from Hong Kong's highest coastal defence battery of the early 20th-century. All in all, allow 90-120 minutes to complete the full Morning Trail circuit if you are walking upward. It can be completed in around 60-75 minutes if going down. If you stop at the Pinewood Battery, give yourself another 15-30 minutes as well.

Connected to this trail coming down from the Peak, so it's not difficult at all. Fully paved all the way, you can take a quick detour to check out the Pinewood Battery, which is an interesting part of Hong Kong history. Also on the way down to Conduit Road, you will pass one of the old City Boundary markers dating back to 1903. A quiet and stress free walk back into the City.

I spent a wonderful, wonderful day on the Lung Fu Shan mountain trail. A group of us (high school friends) gathered at the Hong Kong University MTR stop, and walked up the Lung Fu Shan trail. We stopped by Pinewood Battery, and all of the group, except for me, went further up to the top of the mountain (too many steps for me). We finished the walk and stopped at the Hong Kong Peak Lookout area. Afterward, we walked down the Pok Fu Lam trail along the reservoir. Except for the strenuous steps towards the top of the mountain (which is definitely optional), the entire walk was delightful, with many wonderful sceneries and photo opportunities. I was a surprise for me to end at the Victoria peak, another great opportunity to have another 360 view of beautiful Hong Kong. I will certainly come back to the trail again, with my boys and my husband when they come to Hong Kong. Lovely trail, lovely trail indeed.

Felt very accomplished after completing the trail and really good for building stamina. Some reviews say it's an easy trail, but not necessary to the beginners like me. Nevertheless, loved it! We ended up in The Peak and took the tram back into Central as we were just too tired after the climb.

Nice walking trail leading from Kotewall Road up to Pinewood Battery and then on Lugard Road that takes you to Victoria Peak. The two prominent attractions along the trail are the 1903 City of Victory Boundary Stone and Pinewood Battery and its historic military structures sitting located 307 metres (1,007Β ft) above sea level. You can also catch a view (not a great one) down to Central and across Victoria Harbour to the International Commerce Centre before the path up to Pinewood Battery and the picnic shelters. There were people out on the Easter long weekend, but at no point did the path feel crowded.

Good easy walking trail can lead to University of Hong Kong or to the Peak, where one of the 6 century-old historic landmark posts is located. There are description posts of local plants, and a small waterfall too. Nice spots where good views of Hong Kong island and Lamma island can also be in view. But remember to bring bugs spray though, we hadn't and got bitten quite a bit!!!

Great hike up the peak, but beware of wild boars. Keep your dogs on leash, dogs have been killed around here by boars.

Always go here every week after work or during the evenings for some local exercise. Less people that way and it takes up about 1.5 hour's from our home in Mid-Levels to The Peak.

It’s a very manageable paved walking trail up one of the best viewing points of Hong Kong island. It is free and many locals jog and walk their dogs there in the morning. Please be careful of wild boars which are aplenty in the area but doesn’t seem aggressive.

Such a fun and easy hiking trail! I can definitely tell that this pathway to the peak has been modified a little since the lampposts are in European style, there are signposts for different plants and trees in the area written in Japanese, English and Chinese. There was a small beautiful waterfall as well. I would rate it to be quite an easy hike to do from HKU’s campus all the way to the peak and I also spotted a wild boar that was minding its own business and another boar with its baby which was so cute ! As you go higher up, the weather obviously gets cooler and foggier which gives the landscape such a surreal effect ! You can probably finish this hike in 2 hours but because my friend and I were taking a lot of photos, we spent a bit more time here !
