The castle has some impressive parts and an interesting historical background. The fact that it has been allowed to build houses inside it, even using parts of the old walls removes a big part of its beauty. Still it is worth a visit, although you will need some scouting skills in order to spot the unharmed areas.

A nice place to walk around, there's a cafe inside and some shops. The museum part is closed on Tuesdays, so keep that in mind.

(Translated by Google) Indeed, once you have the opportunity to see and examine the geography in which it is dominant, you once again realize how enormous the Ottoman State was. To embrace all of his subjects without discrimination, exclusion and racism and in a magnificent atmosphere of tolerance, without compromising religion, language, color, origin ... Without falling into the bigotry of religion and nationality; Is there a country that can do even today, which is the modern era where supposedly human beings are based on? No matter how utopian it sounds, it's a fact ... Then, leaving behind mosques, churches, schools, synagogues, baths, castles, bridges, fountains and cemeteries, to walk away silently and become history ... This should be the "Devlet-i Aliyye" ...

Visited first time yesterday, despite coming to Chios Island with my family for so many years. Started from the main gate and walked through the town ending up at the Turkish Baths which have recently been restored. Definitely worth the visit. Points of interest the old jail, the town square with the Turkish cemetery, the seaside wall and of course the Turkish baths. You can also have a nice lunch or dinner at Vradipus ( Sloth) where they have set tables and a bar at the ruins of an old traditional stone house with some really nice and tasty dishes at decent prices. We combined same with a coffee at the picturesque town square with in the castle. Would definitely recommend it.

Not so many English translations at the castle's info. Almost all of them are in Greek, wich is rude. Anyway, this is a Turkish castle, because they had the island from the year 1500 to the year 1912.

As is often the way in Turkiye the castle has been substantially rebuilt. This does not stop it from being impressive and dominating Cesme, particularly if you are approaching from the sea. I enjoyed exploring it but the best views are from outside of it, especially from the bay near the ferry port.

If you've been to the island of Chios, you must see it. Because there are not many historical buildings like this in the center of the island. There is no museum and it is neglected.

Entered obviously through the best maintained door. Not much of the fortifications is left but inside there is like a small village with old houses worth seeing.

My wife was born in Chios island. I visit the castle of Chios every time that I am in the island for vacation. Every time I hear my wife telling me that it is a place that her own mother forbade her visit it, when she was a school girl, due to bad reputation. Still, times change. If you are in Chios, you should visit it. Before doing so, search its history and which places to visit inside the castle. I am not good in describing what you should see and why (I hated history as a student) but, trust me, you should spend some time to check it out. There are not only historical places but also nice cafes, restaurants, churches, a Turkish bath and the walls that protected the habitats from invasion from the sea.

(Translated by Google) Of course we find the traces of the Ottoman. It was built in order to serve as the administrative center of the island during the Byzantine Period. Later, during the Genoese rule, it was modernized according to the period. The castle has different architectural styles depending on the construction period. The castle has nine towers and its surroundings are surrounded by a moat. In Chios Castle, there is the location of Platoos, the bishop of Chios, the tombs of the Ottoman commanders, the temple of Agios Georgios, the Bayraklı Mosque and the Justinian Museum.
