Wonderful food, in a relaxed atmosphere. Shout out to our waiter Cameron, who provided excellent customer service and arranged my meal to be adjusted to suit my dietary needs.

I visited this evening staying in the area for work. I ordered the pork belly and a pint. Prices were reasonable and my beer was crisp and cold. Staff were friendly and efficient. A great start. Now the pork belly..... It's one of my favourite meals, I've eaten it in tons of places but tonight's offering knocked the spots off 95% of what I've had before. Really good size portions, the dish was constructed beautifully and cooked to perfection. From the ever so slightly wilted spinach, to the black pudding mash, the green beans that had just the right amount of bite in them, and the gravy. What can I say about the gravy? except you could serve it in a mug with a crusty roll as a starter and I'd be happy. It's my first time here so I can't comment on anything else, but if you visit, have the pork belly. You won't be disappointed.

The aesthetics and atmosphere of the pub are nice, the staff are lovely and the food was by and large good. We went for Sunday roast and the beef seemed to go down better than the lamb (they had run out of turkey by 1pm, which did seem a little odd for a Sunday roast, but we move). My wife is coeliac, as we had informed them when we booked, and she ordered a gluten free version of the beef roast. When the food came out, there was no gravy at all on the plate, as they had run out of gluten free gravy. These things happen, but they hadn’t come out to tell us this beforehand or offered my wife to change her order. They offered to get a different sauce for the beef, the apple gravy that normally goes with pork, which we accepted as it would take too long to order a new meal. The new sauce eventually came once my wife’s food was cold and I had entirely finished my meal. They had also tried to compensate for the lack of Yorkshire pudding by piling on lots of cabbage, not asking what my wife would prefer to have more of. For dessert, she was able to have the brownie, despite the website stating that it had gluten in (the waitress checked the box however - (it came in a box?!)) and assured us it was fine. My mother-in-law found her brownie very chewy but everyone else enjoyed theirs. I had the crumble, which was delicious but rather small. To her credit, the waitress removed the gluten free meal from our bill entirely without us having to ask. The staff were lovely, just ill-prepared.

Enjoyed our meal. I had a burger which was lovely and my wife had a pizza, the base was really good but there was rather a bit too much tomato paste, but that's only me being picky

Stopped there briefly for something light to eat on a Sunday evening and also to get out of the heat. I only had the wild caught tempura prawns but can honestly say they were amazing. Presentation was excellent and cooked perfectly. The soy chilli and lime sauce was fantastic, though not hot at all and would never had known it had any chlli in it....more ginger tasting but the combination was brilliant. If only judging by the starter i would definitely recommend the willy wicket. Staff were attentive and polite too.

Great interior and helpful staff. I turned up as a walk-in, when they were down to one chef and they still found me a table. Had a great meal and despite being told of a long wait, my order was with me really quickly.

Richard and his staff made us extremely welcome on Saturday lunchtime and nothing was too much bother for our (pre-booked) party of 23. Food was served in an orderly and timely fashion and there were no complaints about our fare. The need to register your car number plate was well signed and so I am surprised other people have missed this. My family and I could not fault the service and welcome that we received, which made for pleasant family gathering in honour of my late father.

All staff were friendly and helpful, we all commented on how nice everyone was. Waitress told us what wasn’t available as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The roast dinner / quality of food was great. We had coffee’s after and it was hot - which is unusual these days! Look forward to returning.

Not the best Sunday lunch ! Booked at short notice for 4 of us, we were seated next to a very loud family with a child that was continually shouting although parent told them not to, we moved tables which was fine. When the food arrived it half filled the plate which is why I guess they offer extras for an extra cost! We had to ask for cutlery, no one came back to see if the food was ok (and they were not busy) the food was barely warm, I was now fed up so I couldn’t be bothered to complain so we ate the food & left, a very poor Sunday lunch in my opinion, we will not be returning or recommending this place.

My visit was very disappointing, there was 4 In My party and we all selected something from the menu that the pub didn't have, when we sat down we weren't told there was several meals not available. The waitress was embarrassed that she had to keep saying sorry we are out of that. At one point we asked for 3 Rib eye steaks but they only had 2, I asked for peppercorn sauce for the steak but again didn't have any, another member wanted salmon not available, garlic mushrooms only one serving, no lasagne available it was a complete joke. It gets better we ordered coffees and 1 tea at the end of the night only to be told they only had enough milk for the tea available. The bill was £146 so it wasn't like we just had a cheap meal either. It become a joke from the waitress in the end. We won't be rushing back.

We were taken to dinner here by our son and his girlfriend. It was quiet on a Tuesday, so no pressure on staff. Tempting menu at reasonable prices. Very friendly waiter. Regretfully he didn't listen carefully enough and some items ordered were either not served at the right time (starter ordered was put down as a mains) or slightly incorrect item brought to table (custard instead of ice cream). Cutlery issues, sticky table etc. These things matter and affect the experience. Pity really because it wouldn't take much to fix. We had a nice family time and would come back again.

We love the Willy Wicket and frequently visit as it’s got a lovely atmosphere and lovely staff. The food was excellent and tasted extremely fresh. However you could tell the pub was understaffed and I felt really sorry for the staff as they were just rushed off of their feet, which isn’t their fault and they did the best they could.

Just been to the Willy Wicket for lunch. What a lovely place. Service was excellent as was the food. I had a steak sandwich which was cooked to perfection and the chunky chips were delicious! Will definitely go back there!

Went there for lunch with a large group of friends. Food was excellent. We were all happy with our meals, including the vegetarians among us. Staff were very helpful and service was good. Waitress was a little slow returning to take our dessert order but as we were enjoying ourselves and were in no hurry it was not a problem

This is the 2nd time we’ve been here recently, both times to celebrate birthdays and both times the food and service has been exceptional. Staff are very friendly and the team of chefs clearly know what they’re doing with the food cooked perfectly. Over the 2 visits, we’ve had a number of dishes from the main menu and each one has been great. The sirloin steak was particularly good and the signature burger was excellent. Great atmosphere with a cosy friendly vibe and a lovely place to celebrate a special Occasion. Highly recommend

Haven't been to the Willy Wicket for at least 10 years went back tonight and had the best experience, our waitress Charlotte was simply the best and went above and beyond to help and please us, was simply brilliant at her job. My husband and I had steaks and they were Cooked exactly how we ordered them, plus lovely chunky crispy chips . Lovely atmosphere, cosy and comfortable. Will definitely not be leaving it for ten years to return . Well done to all concerned

Nice oldy worldy pub. Plenty of parking and seating when we visited for lunch. Service was friendly and good. We had a hot sandwich that was presented well. Filling was good. The roll/ bread was little too rustic for our liking, and we both found it heavy going. Would have preferred a soft roll or bread, given the choice. Don't forget to enter your car reg when at the bar to avoid a fine. The signage about this is fairly prominent, so we did.

Lovely atmosphere! Been here several times now! Lovely staff, looked after really well. Food was delicious as usual! Booked easily online through the website. Restaurant was busy but really well looked after by staff. Really good choice of options on a few menus! Will be back!

I usually book to meet up with ex work colleagues and this is a central location. We usually meet up approx 4 times a year and the number usually ranges from 7 to 10 people. Occasionally we may have the odd person whose meal did not meet their expectations , but usually the majority of us have been happy overall. On this occasion however, three of us ordered the beef and red wine pie. It looked delicious on the plate but the meat was very tough and chewy for all of us. We informed the waitress who was very helpful and lovely. She offered to exchange our meals for us. We appreciated the offer but firstly our other diners would have finished theirs by the time our replacement meals would have arrived. It just puts a dampener on the occasion. It was also very sunny and therefore very hot in the restaurant. Whilst it's nice to have the sunshine, we were unable to open the windows and there were no curtains or blinds available to close. We were quite uncomfortably hot. Either you need to put some form of air conditioning or replace the curtains or blinds. The pull chains were in situ but nothing attached to them. Some people moved but more difficult for a table of seven to move elsewhere without splitting the group up which would be unacceptable as this is a get together to catch up with friends. Our desserts were lovely and the cost of the three unsatisfactory meals were not charged for but we have noticed that things have definitely gone downhill. This is no reflection on the waitress who was very attentive. Overall, we gave now decided to try another location for our next get together as we want to be able to all enjoy the food. We did hear afterwards that we were not the first to complain about the pie meat. Hopefully this will be rectified. Perhaps you may need to change supplier in future.

Had a great night here for a birthday🎊 meal. Food arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious, so fresh and tasty. Amazing service, our server was very attentive and took good care of our party. Would definitely recommend 👍🏻😊

Very disappointing, a friendly waiter but no follow through with service. The glass that held my drink was extremely dirty. The ladies toilet was covered in very unsavoury graffiti, a coat of paint would have worked wonders. Decided to cancel my food order as no confidence in cleanliness of kitchen or food hygiene. Do not recommend this pub. Didn’t spend anything as cancelled order but would have spent £60 between us

Two out of three meals were very over cooked. A real disappointment. Main meals were taken off the bill which we appreciated but left still hungry. One upside, our server, Cameron, is exceptionally polite an apologetic. A very nice person.

Very nice place to eat. The service staff were cheery and eager to please, nothing too much trouble. The staff catered for my daughter's allergy, although it was a very limited choice. The food was excellent and plentiful. The fish and chips was huge; couldn't finish it! Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go again.

We had an amazing experience, our waiter Cameron was incredible. He was friendly, attentive and regularly checked in on us, had a genuine smile on his face the whole time and was really helpful. One of the best experiences we've had while out for dinner. The food was delicious and full of flavour and the drinks were amazing.

Went on a weekday at early lunchtime, so might be different jn the evenings. Food was good but not the biggest portions (several comments around the table about how few chips given). Overall perception was of fairly decent pub-food at restaurant prices (£20 for a ribeye steak and it came with about 10 chips on the plate). Staff were very pleasant and friendly, generally the building was a little cold for some (might just be getting used to the recent weather change though). In general, I'd happily go back next time work are paying or there's a voucher on offer - at full price it's a little over-priced to eat, but a nice pub for a drink.

Willy wicket , Food warm ,have veg missing on 1 plate out of 3,gravy not bought with food, had to ask for it, took awhile had to ask another waitress for it, gravy was hottest thing on plate

  • 4/5 Andrew M. 1 year ago on Google
Overall the meals were decent and service good. I had the vegan candied vegetable roast. It was a little dry and the smear of tomato sauce looked like someone had run their finger through it. Vegan gravy would have made the meal less dry and much better.

Hi all. The pub itself is fantastic and a nice place to be. The staff are friendly and helpful. Rosey was very good funny and knowledgeable of what's on. Unfortunately by 5 pm on a Friday they had run out of 2 of the 3 bitters on offer. We stayed for dinner at a really nice little corner table that my mum was really happy with. Sorry to say the food was not good. Not good at all. I think that it was bad because the chef had no faith or passion in what he or she was doing or overseeing. If the Willy gets a new dedicated chef it could be the perfect pub. Oh and the bar back mirrors are bloody filthy. I really wish that they would sort out these simple problems. If they did I would love to go again.

Service was good, food however, I had a chicken, leek and mushroom pie, the chicken (what there was of it) was dry, very little sauce, and the mushrooms and leeks?? Not convinced there were any in the pie at all.

It was very cold in the pub given that the weather was awful outside all weekend. When I asked to have the fireplace lit I was told they were not being put on even though the sign on the fireplace said all we needed to do was ask if we were chilly. When I asked if the heating was on the waitress said it's July, the building takes too long to heat up because it's large and I am the only person who has complained. So basically no! People were sitting in the restaurant with their gilets on and my entire table of 6 were cold. Sad to be spoken to in this way and told there must be a draft from the window so I could move. There was no draft, this huge pub needed heating. Maybe it's best to only visit in the winter months/hot days. Shame because the pub looks nice and the food was very nice. Also had good parking. Brownie was fab. The other waitress was lovely and kind.

Great, varied Christmas menu. Cosy ambiance. Friendly staff. Had not visited before (not usually my stomping ground), but came here for Christmas lunch with my colleagues. The lunch was delicious and, as I've already said, there was plenty of choice -- something for everyone. Three seating arrangement gave us all (party of 12) sufficient room and we neither felt hemmed in or hidden away. The venue's being dog friendly means that I would like to visit again with my family (including our dog) in the new year.

Today I went to the willy wicket with my granddaughter. I had battered cod with peas and chips my granddaughter had the same .when it arrived there was not enough peas or chips on the plate. / nice place food was very expensive for what it was.It wasn't really geared up for children/families. The food was nice, although I'm not sure we would return in a rush. Service was okay, had to ask for salt, pepper and sauce as wasn't were it should have been brought to us in a hurried manner, no one bothered to either greet us or acknowledge our presence or even to thank us for our custom, that I feel goes along way in customer service. Portions are particularly sparse you could count the peas and chips on our plate could do well with I improvement.

We meet our friends and have a drink. But not impressed that we are unable to get a coffee at 9pm before we leave. On one occasion they ran out of milk. And last week we was told the kitchen had closed. When the coffee machine is behind the bar.

Nice pub and Staff seem friendly and polite. Food is fine except Yorkshire s inedible. One star off because of small portions and lack of veggies. Seem to get booked up fast so others may have a different opinions. Not horrid but not wow either.

The service has gone to pot recently. Food is still nice but we've had to wait for food from 1hr to 1hr 20 mins on a booked table. Twice in 2 weeks. For a 3 course sunday lunch last week we were there for almost 3 hrs. They even brought our puddings out without clearing the dinner plates. I think they were short staffed but if they said that to begin with then you expect it.

Very bad customer experience from start to finish. Arrived and said I reserved a table and was told to sit anywhere...... I had to ask again to be seated in the correct area. That was annoyance number one. Annoyance two, had to go to the bar to get my drinks then told to go to my table to wait...... drinks still not arrived..... asked for some water, got those.... still no drinks. Annoyance number three, my girlfriends steak was cooked incorrectly. This goes on an on. The manager offered to knock the steak off the bill and give us free puddings. Still only three stars
