First impressions were good. Really lovely quiet setting. Lush green grounds with old oak trees. The hotel itself is not new but it is well maintained and clean. The room was very spacious with a desk and seating are. The bed was comfortable. There were however 2 major downsides hence the 3 stars. The first was that because I was on the ground floor the noise of the floor boards from the floor above was really bad to the point that I was woken a number of times. The second down point (and it was bad) the restaurant. The breakfast was nice with the hot components cooked to order but the evening meal was dreadful, the service non-existent. As a saving grace the manager gave me the meal on the house but it certainly put a damper on my experience.

What can I say have stayed here for 4 weeks whilst on a course in Bristol. It's a hotel with plenty of character not what you would call a modern hotel but don't let that fool.you.the grounds are amazing due to it being a wedding venue. The staff have been amazing nothing has been to much trouble always willing to go above and beyond to make the stay as comfortable as possible even got to know most by the first names and actually made a few friends also will genuinely be sad to go but will highly recommend this quirky hotel for a stay

It's really such a shame that the owners don't seem to be investing money in this hotel... Great location, great grounds and parking... Rooms all seem to need some TLC... Staff are hit and miss...some helpful, some a bit lethargic... During a really hot spell my colleague was offered a room with the window screwed shut!! With some investment, this could be a fabulous hotel!!

Stayed here for a Murder Mystery event and the hotel was a bit of a mixed bag: Staff - All the staff we met were friendly, polite and helpful, a real credit to the hotel. Overall aspect - Looks great from the outside and we loved having tea on the extensive grass area at the front of the building. All the public rooms were nice. Rooms - The let down! Sizeable room & a comfy bed but in the first room (201) the electric failed. Reception sent an engineer who reset the breakers but without checking the problem was resolved, went home leaving us still without electric. We had no choice but to move room. All was well in 207 but in the morning there was no hot water in the room. Apparently a boiler issue, so no shower just a cold wash. Also there is no mechanism on the door to close it quietly, lots of door slamming by other guests make it difficult to rest Food - As part of the MM event we had pre chosen our meals. Mainly a nice meal but the chicken breast was somewhat dry. Breakfast was nice, good selection and very tasty. To be fair the receptionist gave us 2 complimentary drinks for the electric issue but I can’t say I’ll be rushing back here for another stay.

The staff were lovely and helpful. Particularly the waitress in the evening when we exhaustedly stumbled into the dining area with a very tired autistic child and she could not have been more helpful. Unfortunately the staff HAD to be helpful quite a lot, between the oven-like room, the three days without hot water, the key cards ceasing to work on our doors... The niceness of the staff simply couldn't compensate for the sheer dreadfulness of the hotel itself. Will never come back here

Stayed for the Badminton weekend. Great location, good price, excellent Breakfast and Dinner. Staff where attentive and seemed to want to be there to help and make our stay comfortable and restful. Breakfast staff on Monday started our day filled with good vibes..

Booked a room for my family and myself but had to cancel when Lewis Capaldi concert at Chepstow was cancelled. Plenty of notice given but unfortunately hotel chose to pocket the money for a room and x3 breakfast rather than offer any kind of a refund. Have stayed there before on 2 occasions but I don’t think we’ll use it again. Thanks Mercure 😠

Reception extremely pleasant, atmosphere good The only downside was the mattresses are too hard didn't sleep, got up with aching shoulders, We are used to a sprung mattress with some give. It was like sleeping on a board. We would love to revisit if you have alternative mattresses.

This hotel has a mix of positives and negatives - thus the 3 stars. The hotel exteriors and the surroundings are unassuming. The quintessentially British facade complimented by the century old tree all work together for a perfect backdrop. However, the hotel falls flat on the interiors department. Though it has a classic feel to it, the rooms looked dated and hallways are tight. You could also hear all the happenings from the hallways and the room next door. The rooms did not have ACs , so I can just imagine how boiling it will be on hot summer months. The staff were polite and really helpful. We asked to stay for a late check out ( for £20), and they agreed. This is always a plus as we are always too lazy to leave the hotel at mid day. The buffet breakfast was good, nothing exceptional. The place is just lacking a bit in terms of amenities but overall, it is affordable and offers good value for money. That is, if you are looking for a place away from the bustle of Bristol’s city centre.

The overall experience was great and the room rate was good value. I do think the restaurant prices are extraordinarily expensive though. Room service was great as I was busy in the evening, though the comically big tray was quite difficult to carry through the narrow entrance. The bed was comfortable. The room was also extremely quiet, though I am unsure if I even had a neighbour. There was no hair dryer in the room though. Breakfast was fabulous and I couldn’t fault anything. The service was great in spite of the room key system being temporarily broken, I didn’t find myself really being inconvenienced at all. Looking forward to coming again.

The hotel itself was very dated, the bathrooms in particular. The doors of the rooms close very slowly and then slam at the last second making for a very noisy corridor. The outdoor area was very nice and most of the staff were helpful.

Stayed here a few times, perfect for my local nearby working needs. Always a nice smile and welcome on arrival. Breakfast is pretty great and other meals not bad and if nothing on the menu you fancy, there's a few nice pubs nearby. Rooms are comfortable and clean, staff to be honest I really like their friendliness and push to make your stay a good one.

Perfect location - went for a dinner with friends - staff were very very friendly and helpful - food was delicious - and menu had a really good selection to suit all tastes. Enjoyed my prawn cocktail! and Tomato soup was fab! Steaks were also cooked perfectly!

It's a beautiful setting and the staff and facilities are superb but our room and room facilities were disappointing. The bed was badly situated in the room with difficult access and combined with the radiators set on high we both got a glancing burn trying to get into bed. Also this room had one power plug to try to charge two phones and all our other electrical gear. The wardrobe for our two night stay had three coat hangers, it's just so disappointing after the welcome we received at this beautiful hotel

We visited for a family wedding and were pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous setting and building - just beautiful! The staff were really friendly and helpful, and we couldn't fault the breakfast either. Our only negative was that the hotel was boiling one day and freezing the next, which obviously isn't a big thing but if (like us) you struggle being too warm ask them for a fan to stay cool!

Lovely staff 👌. Our room was ok. The only problem was that the shower 🚿 was leaking all night. The temperature could not be set. Couldn't have a bath due to no plug. Wonderful staff sorted out for us. Food was brilliant. Location and views were lovely. Thank you for a lovely birthday 🎂 weekend.

We held our 25th wedding anniversary party here, and we and quite a few of our group stayed over. The party was excellent - all the staff worked so hard to make it perfect for us, I can't praise them highly enough. Everyone is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was fine - as some others have mentioned, the rooms are a little dated and the plumbing is reflective of the age of the building, but our room was spotless and the bed really comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very good- both at dinner and at breakfast. Some of our party guests that stayed over are planning to come and stay again, and so would we.

BEST WEDDING EVER I can't begin to explain how amazing our wedding was, so much so, weeks later and guests are still talking about it! The location, the food, the organisation, the presentation, everything...... Danny and Emily are the absolute gems of The North Bristol Grange, they both went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. We honestly cannot thank them enough. From helping me (the groom) from the moment I arrived, and being there from first thing in the morning setting everything up, till last thing at midnight tidying up, that's dedication. We want to thank all the staff with all our hearts for making our wedding a day to remember.

Visited hotel to attend a dinner show - Fawlty Towers. The hotel was very average - could be much better with a little more work. Positives: Friendly Staff Attractive Grounds Decor very nice Good food for evening meal and breakfast Evening show excellent. Negatives Room not as advertised - before we arrived we were emailed to say that our prestige room would have a sofa included. There was no sofa and when I spoke to reception they were dismissive about this - no apology! Only 1 set of towels were left out in our double room, the second set were hidden away in a bag in the cupboard. I can’t see why they thought 2 people would want to share a bath towel. Room was not especially clean, base base valance had a dribble on it and underside of soap and tissue boxes were dirty. Staffing levels - only 1 bar staff in function room for 60 - 70 guests. Overall an enjoyable stay because of the dinner show experience.

Excellent staff, friendly and efficient. Good room with a great bed. Breakfast options a little depleted by 0900 but what was there was of fair quality. I liked the WiFi not needing you to provide email etc. Couple of repairs needed to communal areas but all in all a good stay.

We went there for a myster murder event and it was absolutely fantastic! We've upgraded to a bridal suite and the room was nice and clean and very spacious. We've had an afternoon tea but that was on a slow mood due to the fact that there was only one girl serving food, drinks, taking guests to their rooms 😳 but she was trying her best! Overall the food was very lovely, the service was great and the surroundings were beautiful. We loved our stay ❤️

I booked the hotel last minute as I decided to stay overnight in Bristol. Really nice and picturesque grounds and friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable and nice and breakfast was good. I didn't get the chance to explore the facilities or grounds. It has no lifts so those with mobility issues should be aware. Also it's a little of the way out of town so you'll need to get taxis back and forth

Very nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast, serve yourself. Veggie sausage available on request. Minor decoration needed if you look closely, it's what I would expect. Top floor in extensions was very warm on a hot day with no air con, but fans were provided, so bearable.

No one at reception on arrival. Had to find the reception, it was badly signed. Staff are clearly under trained. Dirty glasses all over the bar that was under stocked. There was a wedding but!.. Bringing food before the plates were taken away to make space. Everything felt sticky/ dirty. A bucket of hot soapy water, marigolds and a clean towel to dry everything off wouldn’t go a miss.! Sorry but all feed back is good feedback. Please sort it, the grounds are lovely.

Lovely hotel, nice spacious rooms. Overall good value for money and will definitely stay here again! Update to my last review, we had a lovely stay again, rooms are still really nice, however the breakfast service was not great.... when we got there there was nothing at all. When things did come out it was in bits that quickly got taken by people waiting. Apart from this we still enjoyed our stay.

Had our wedding here a year ago & the staff & facilities were 1st class. Came for our anniversary meal & overnight stay. How different things change in a year. Staff miserable with no customer service at all. The restaurant staff didn’t even understand the food on the menu!! We’re offered NO drinks when we were having our meal. Food was average. Hotel room clean but needs updating. Breakfast buffet all overcooked & no staff present to help. Was a bitterly disappointing stay, sadly won’t be returning again which as it was the place we got married is upsetting.

We stayed overnight for a friend's wedding. Not far from home but thought it would be nice to stay over. The wedding was wonderfully organised with great staff. The wedding breakfast was lovely and the evening buffet really nice. Our room was beautiful it was clean large and welcoming. Comfy bed nice seating area. Wardrobe door was a bit wonky. Very nice breakfast although the bacon was a little dry. Would stay again and would recommend.

Pretty basic rooms but they were clean and comfortable. Restaurant not great standards for an evening meal but breakfast very good. Sadly woken up twice during the stay due to fire alarms going off for.no good reason in (we were told) the staff quarters which was an adjoining building. Quite remote in location, so a bit of a drive, but there's a fair bit of parking available and the setting is very nice. Staff all quite polite and friendly.

Staff were lovely and friendly. Lovely location/scenery. The breakfast was great, lots of choice. The food was good in the evening, but because we had a dog with us we had to eat in the bar/lounge area, which is fine, however the tables/chairs in that area aren't really practical for eating. (Had to put my plate on my knee). The big downside here are the rooms, very dark inside and need a big update, wallpaper was ripped in lots of places. The bathrooms also need modernising.

My fiance took me there for a short getaway following his very successful corporate event and Christmas party at this venue. Hotel itself is beautiful, surroundings unique and that all makes it magical especially now in the winter time. Room was not too modern but clean and nothing was missing and it had romantic feel. Despite cold weather room was toasty warm. We really enjoyed breakfast ( excellent selection of food) and had one dinner in which was excellent. Staff was kind and attentive. Overall I recommend.

I had a lovely Christmas meal here with the ladies from my choir. We opted for the three course Christmas dinner dance and I was thrilled to find I had a choice of gluten free options for every course. The staff were careful to answer my questions about each dish and were clearly well informed. We all enjoyed our meal and followed it up with lots of dancing. A great night all round.

Tucked away in large private grounds, the hotel is a lovely old house. Unfortunately the long driveway is riddled with pot holes so care is needed especially if you arrive in the dark. The interior itself feels more geared towards corporate meetings and weddings with the public areas lacking character and a sense of 'cosiness'. This could easily be improved. Some of the furnishings are tired and need replacing or repairing. It's a shame because the potential is there to create a much warmer feel. Our room was clean and comfortable although again, the bathroom could use some attention to repair and update it. Breakfast was OK but items weren't replenished so if you came down to eat towards the end of service then you had what was left. At £17.95 a head, this doesn't feel adequate. We stayed a few nights and observed this to be the case each morning. Overall, my observation is that the staff are friendly and helpful but this hotel feels like it might be struggling financially. It's a real shame as it's a great building in a lovely location with real potential to be amazing!

Unfortunately I took no pictures so can not show the hotel. 5 stars based on the fantastic staff really. The comfortable room and great shower added to that. The staff were incredibly helpful from the point of arrival. Food was very nice and the atmosphere was perfect. I will definitely stay here again.

New years eve 4 course dinner, dance and accommodation. Highly recommended. Great service and excellent food. Each table with lovely decorations. Each guest on table served at same time.e so no one waiting for food. Lovely atmosphere. DJ and live band kept the party atmosphere going. Room had everything you needed and was exceptionally clean. Breakfast had a great choice. Staff were amazing throughout the night and Happy to help. Will definitely be returning

Having stayed twice before when we were in Bristol, we were returning guests. The hotel met our expectations and the staff, as always, were very friendly and accommodating. Our evening meal was delicious. The salmon dish was recommended by one of the other guests at the next table so having ordered it I found it to be very nice. Lynne was a very good waitress and was even at breakfast the next day! Lynne obviously enjoys her job and ensured all of the many guests were adequately served. The continental breakfast was perfect--lots of coffee, fresh fruit salad, plenty of yoghurts to choose from, toast, croissants (large and small), cereals, meats, cheeses and we could even have ordered a cooked breakfast (though we chose not to due to our limited time). Thank you for a wonderful overnight stay and our compliments to your entire staff for making our stay so delightful. Despite the interior of the hotel beginning to look a little 'tired', our room was superb---spacious, very clean with plenty of hot water for showers! Thank you.

My stay was amazing the staff were very nice and friendly I would recommend this hotel. Dog friendly and can walk your dog on the huge garden. The rooms were nice and spacious. The breakfast was a good buffet style breakfast with a good selection.
