I visited The Dog Inn with a friend for a birthday celebration. We chose this particular pub due to the good reviews it had for the food. Unfortunately, this was not our experience. We both had the slow cooked lamb shank (one of the most expensive items on the menu). The food looked lovely and the accompanying mash and veg was tasty. However, the lamb was obviously not cooked for long enough as it was impossible to get it off the bone. We had to hack at it to get any meat at all and when we did get a morsel, it was still full of fat and gristle. The majority of the lamb was left on our plates. We told our server we were very disappointed with the meal and he apologised. When we settled the bill, we were told the kitchen had been informed of our comments and they were sorry. We were not offered anything else to eat and were told they had no authority to reduce the price. I emailed the pub when I got home to say how disappointed we were and have had no response at all. I felt bad for my friend who had saved up to take me out for a birthday treat and ended up spending her money on such a poor meal. I accept that everyone has a bad meal from time to time but both meals were awful and our complaint should have been dealt with more professionally. Had it been, we would be more likely to give it another go. Needless to say, I would not recommend this pub.

Good place to visit after a tromp around Old Sodbury. Lovely cosy decor and inviting atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a lovely little garden area to sit and have a drink and for kids to play. Great traditional pub food, I especially enjoyed the gammon, egg and chips.

Beautiful garden, but nowhere to sit...there's no furniture,? There's only one bench on a lovely lawn, we had to sit on the grass. We would of had something to eat, but couldn't as no seating was available...missing a trick there, such a shame as it was a lovely evening aswell.

We booked a table of 14 for our works Christmas party. Such a wonderful service from start to finish, taking good care of our gluten free member of staff. There was no rush and food was excellent. Highly recommend 😊

A lovely setting. Wonderful service from staff. A good selection of beer. It is clear the pub is much loved by the local community, which is such a wonderful thing to see. I would highly recommend going when they are offering a BBQ and the ‘Bald Eagle’ is cooking! Thank you for a lovely time The Dog Inn!

Glenn and Vicky are very nice people and very helpful; the communication before arriving went very smoothly. However the quality of the rooms was a bit under the level we were expecting for the price we have been paying for; we believe the rooms can use an upgrade.

Found this cozy inn by chance. Room for 2 People. The inn is run by Richard and his daughter Ginger 😉 Had a delicious meal in a Turkish restaurant on Richard's recommendation. When we came back from there, we thought the pub would be closed, but no, it was still great to drink with the locals. In the morning i ate my first English breakfast, it was delicious!! Nowhere else eaten such a delicious English breakfast. The English are hospitable and friendly people. Hopefully i will return to England and the Dog inn soon. Best wishes from Jolanda from Hoek van Holland The Netherlands.

We called in for a pint and a bite to eat after a country walk. A nice atmosphere and really friendly staff. All the food and drink is reasonably priced and the pub has a large garden and outdoor seating. This was our second visit and we'd happily recommend The Dog Inn.

We stayed with our 2 dogs on new years eve and were completely happy with our stay. It may not be 5 star accommodation, nevertheless it was clean, adjacent to, but just separate from the pub, good value for money and the owners and staff were friendly and genuine.

Had a excellent lunch here today, good value for money with the main course at only £8.50. I had a tender 4oz rump steak and my wife had ham, egg and chips with a nice thick cut of Wiltshire ham.

First time i had been to the dog inn and had a sunday roast and i wont be rushing back. Beef was very chewy and some of the roast potatoes werent even cooked properly. I let me daughter finish my pudding for one of the staff members to take it away whilst she was still eating it.

Just left the Dog Inn after our Sunday roast. We got beef and pork. We were looking forward to it all day It came out as thin slices of meat and the look and taste was very unappealing and the meat was dry. We ate the veg and left the meat. The bar had about 15-20 dirty pint glasses stacked up and we had to bring our finished soup bowls to the bar because no one came back to us. I informed the bar staff of our bad experience. The staff didn't seem to care too much about the poor service or the bad meal. They did say they were sorry.

Chosen as a half way meeting place, but we were very happy that we did. The room was pleasant and clean, and even though close to the road we were not bothered by road noise. The food, both evening meal and breakfast were excellent, better than a big name restaurant the evening before.

We popped in for a cheeky pint to break up our walk along the Cotswold Way. Traditional pub, nice ambience and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Rang to see if could book a table for a meal. Was told could squeeze us in. When we arrived very friendly welcome and table had been reserved. When ordering food explained I was on Keto but was no issue. Had Sunday lamb roast but instead of potatoes and other carbs gave me extra veg. Hubby had mussels a la dog. Both huge portions!!. Well worth the visit and will definetely visit again if near Bristol

Came here to meet up for a walk; enjoyed a very good cod and chips for lunch. Others enjoyed their different lunches. Would definitely visit again. See if you find the building in the photo

Spent a couple of hours in Chipping Sodbury followed by a hearty meal at The Dog Inn with our gorgeous little Yorkie Pippin. Food was excellent, I had a curry (Katsu) which was delicious and my wife had ham,egg and chips, the ham so I'm told was the best.

A very nice pub/Restaurant very close to Yate. They have a lovely beer garden with loads of space and lots of tables. We both had the Lasagne and it was really good and can recommend it. There was a good choice of meals and it was pretty difficult deciding what to have. They have a big car park to, so no problems parking.

Booked for a halfway stop on the way to Cornwall. Nice enough Inn but really does need some TLC - traditional shouldn't mean unmaintained. No excuse for blackened grouting in the shower. Grumpy evening barmaid but lovely service at breakfast.

Lovely big rooms suitable for a base with small children and a dog like us when visiting family in Bristol. Breakfast was good. Parking was easy. Tea and coffee facilities along side the aid of the pub for food and drink. Not sure it's fully sound proof as we could hear next door trying to put their plug in the wall and their TV. Didnt bother us though. Light bulbs needed replacing as few put and could of done with better lighting near our bed. Otherwise would stay again.

Went in for a Sunday roast. Very disappointing. After todays experience, I'm genuinely confused by other reviews for this pub, are all definitely talking about The Dog Inn? Lackluster service followed by rather awful food. Perhaps the normal menu is better, but I wouldn't recommend going there for a roast to anyone.

Stopped by this dog friendly pub for dinner due to the reviews on our way to London on a Sunday evening of the bank holiday weekend. The kitchen was open quite later then other food joints in the area. We arrived at around 20:30 and there was plenty of parking available on site. Staff are very kind, funny and made our experience more enjoyable. Be sure to book a day in advance if you fancy having a lamb joint as they only have limited stock per day and they finish quite quickly but try your luck anyway. We opted for a variety of dishes anyway but our favourite was the homemade beef lasagna and steak. Our favourite drink of choice was definitely the "cheeky pig", it looked like the strongest cider on draft (7.5%), it was quite sweet and refreshing to the taste. I would 100% back here again if we are in the area.

We didn't stay at The Dog, but had dinner with family and our 2 dogs last Saturday evening. Great selection of food and both food and service were really good too. Recommend a visit. You won't be disappointed 😍👍 x

Just had dinner here on a Thursday evening. Whitebait starter was piping hot and a generous portion. Ribeye steak was cooked perfectly. All four of us were totally stuffed and happy. Beer was great, honest food and honest prices.

Didn't stay in room. But went for a warm drink after walk. Car park bit small. But pub got soo much oldness about it. Lots tables booked for food so limited where can sit inside. Unless can finish before prebooked tables in use. Lovely old building with history. 2 open fires either end. Toasty warm but had smell off wet dogs and dirty walkers boots.

Popped in for a late lunch with my partner, we went in the lounge bar which wasn’t particularly busy and was told to pick a table and order at the bar. The first table we sat at was really sticky so found a table that was less sticky. The lounge bar was also quite cold. We ordered the ham and cheese omelette and the 5oz steak off the lunch menu. The food was rather disappointing. My steak was meant to be medium rare but was more medium well, it was also only lukewarm as had clearly been sat waiting whilst my partners was being cooked. Her omelette was piping hot but really greasy and overdone that it was more like a Yorkshire pudding than a omelette. Both our chips were warm but really nice and both had over boiled peas reminded me of a home roast dinner from the 90s. Pricing was pretty fair but probably wouldn’t return for another meal.

This is a nice pub and the food looks really nice, although we didn't try any when we visited but we'll definitely return to try it on another occasion. The beer and cider are both well kept and reasonably priced.

Went with a group, had the soup of the day - tomato and basil, it was nice. Also had a lasagne was good although quite a small portion. For pudding I had an apple crumble which was very good although also a small portion. Most of my friends had a Sunday roast and they made comments about it being alright but not very good. Was also quite pricey, service was average maybe slightly on the slow side. Tables were also very sticky.

The Sunday lunch was fabulous, a decent portion for a reasonable price and perfectly cooked. The thing that spoilt it for us was the arrival of a large group with 3 very noisy children, screaming, shouting and kicking the seat with no parental control going on.

Historic village pub with nice decour & friendly clientele. The food is ok but it's expensive. The steak & ale pie wasn't good as the filling was not tasty. The balti chicken was average. The trout was good as was the cod & fishcake. The Wickwar Bob ale was tasty. The wines are ok but very expensive. The best dessert is the Marshfield ice creams. The brownie was ok but expensive. Service was good.

Reasonably priced and food and coffee taste nice but staff are really slow and don't seem to know wot they are actuly doing. It took 45 mins to get are coffee and over an hour to get a sandwich and we when back to order two soft drinks and the gave use the wrong change.

Very good, we come to eat here when we arrived in bristol with all our staff during moving (with our 5 months old Siberian husky puppy too, who is not discret) but we are welcoming by staff (owner) and we had a very good lunch. If we had a more money we come back eat here for sure.

A proper pub in every sense - proper pub atmosphere and proper pub food. Very good character and 3 real ales available which isn't a big selection but nevertheless I can't have any complaints.
