This Archaeological place dates back to 345 CE (Kadamba dynasty). The cave is very good and Mysteriously altered by King for protection against enemies. Have to take guide to enter cave ,, it's completely dark and can't just enter ,, it's like maze and might get lost and a bit scary too . Guide will charge 200 - 300 for 2 people. Guide will take tourist trip inside the cave which goes deep upto 80feet below the cave,, it will take around 20minutes. DON'T TRY TO ENTER CAVE ALONE ,, ITS COMPLETELY DARK . After completing cave ,, can just go around the place, but make sure to return back to pond side by 5pm before it gets dark. View of chandravalli lake is mesmerizing and can enjoy the sunset . Usually there will be auto in the entrance for returning to city, but make sure to return back by 6pm. Info -- The Chandravalli cave temple (also known as the Ankali Mutt - Saints from Ankalagi (Belgaum) came here for meditation)is semilunar in shape located between two giant monolithic rocks, a pre-historic site

A must visit place in Chitradurga. Plenty of parking is available. An old Shiva temple is there which was put by great Pandavas when they were in hideout after Lakshagrah event. Next to temple are the caves. It is better to take a guide (which is available at the entrance for the best experience.) The caves are in complete dark and there is small Shivalingam there inside, there was sage used to live and meditate there. Besides the caves, there is a rock formation which looks like a cobra snake and shivlingam from the front the looks like an eagle from the back, ask the guide. At the car parking there is also a rock formation which looks like a mother feeding a child, must see, ask some local. Why this place is called Chitradurga: The rock formation here resembles to different creature we see in day today; here there is a rock formation which looks like a cobra snake and shivlingam from the front the looks like an eagle from the back, in car parking there is also a rock formation which looks like a mother feeding a child, must see, ask some local. In chitradurga fort after the Ganesha temple which is after Amma Padha, just few steps away if you can stand and look around then you will see rock formations resemble a ship, rabbit, elephant and crocodile. And this is why this place is called Chitradurga. Chitra means picture and durga means fort. The rock formation here resembles to different creature we see in day today.

Must see if you are physically fit and not afraid of dark and not claustrophobic. To fully understand the place and see all spots inside the cave , best thing you can do is hire a guide. Guide explained to us in detail, took us inside the cave and had torch. Loved the place , saw the places inside the cave, how sadhus user to live and the paintings and other works. You need to wear comfortable foot wear, shoes etc.

One of the go to places for people in and around Chitradurga. Don't waste your money paying the guide there. Only problem is the transport as you won't find autorickshaw readily available

    1. Good place to visit for half day. 2. Go either in morning or evening. 3. Visit shiva temple inside cave. Sit for sometime. You will get very good vibe here. 4. Wear good shoes while entering in cave side. 5. Go bare foot if you would like to climb any big stone in the cave as it's slippery. 6. Lake is just awesome. You can sit near lake. In evening, the wind flow, mountains & voice of 🦚 is simply awesome. 7. No ticket required. 8. Free Parking is available for both two & four wheeler.

Exploring the hidden depths of history! Had an exhilarating adventure at Chandravalli Caves in Chitradurga, and I can't contain my excitement! Descending 80 feet underground into the mysterious bunkers was an unforgettable experience. With each step, the anticipation grew, and my heart raced in awe of what lay ahead. The darkness enveloped me, but I was armed with courage and curiosity. As I ventured deeper into the pitch-black caverns, I couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder. The walls whispered stories of ancient times, and the ambiance transported me to a different era. It was as if I was walking amidst legends and secrets! Every twist and turn unraveled a new mystery, and the sheer thrill of exploration filled my veins. There's something truly magical about being in the presence of history, feeling the weight of centuries on your shoulders. If you're seeking an adventure that will leave you feeling awestruck, the Chandravalli Caves are an absolute must-visit! Prepare to immerse yourself in darkness and unravel the secrets buried beneath the earth. Trust me, the experience will ignite your imagination and leave you craving for more

Beautiful and Peaceful place.. These Chandravalli caves will be the oldest ones as usual when chitradurga formed for almost the meantime.. Full dark inside the caves you may go with 3-4 groups of friends by using the mobile torch, but my suggestion is please take a guide with more information and you can return well, because steps may be missed and also inside the caves... Without a guide simply looking at the caves no use. Guide affordable price only many unknown facts are there.. Another Garuda bande and other rocks are near.. Worth of visiting.. Sometimes aware of monkey's..

It was a great experience getting into the caves and learning the history of the place. There are tour guides who explain very well. Claustrophobic people should be a little careful if they are planning to explore the caves.!

Chandravalli cave and shiv temple is referenced in Mahabharat. Pandavas stayed here for some time during their vanvaas. Also, in the early part of the Kadamba dynasty its king used to live in this cave. Take help from the guide to understand the history.

Historic caves where help of a guide is a must. Can be suffocating inside the caves. Worth your time and money to visit the caves. Adjacent is one of the early man made small lake abutting Haddin betta and Dhavalappana betta, both worthy hiking spots.. Monkey menace; beware if you are carrying food.

Nice and calm place to visit. No entry. There is an Temple. We have a cave, where we go down the cave and explore. There are less than 100 steps to reach. Opposite we have a lake view. Totally we might require 1 to 1.5 hour to explore.

Beautiful place, plenty of Parking place, No entry fees. There is a small gudi where there are 9 lingams. 5 were placed by the Pandavas during their exile, earning the name Panchalingeshwara. The other 4 were placed by a Swamiji in the 1500s. Next to the gudi, there is the 1600 year old cave. Taking a guide while entering it is recommended because there are a lot of tricky turns. The depth of the cave is about 80 feet below ground level. The specialty of the cave is that once you are in the innermost chambers, nobody outside the cave can hear you (even if you scream). Thus the early occupants of the cave could have used it as a safe house and a secret meeting place.

Hardly 4 km from city center in chitradurga. A calm and quite place away from city to have peace of mind. There is a small reservoir nearby, occasionally boating allowed in it. Small steps to climb to reach the caves. Once you reach at t end of man made stairs, there is an artificial cave which has been converted to lord shiva temple. You need to be careful about your head while going inside as the roof top is very near. The caves are located west side of the temple. Not well maintained and no proper arrangement of floor maintaining, the stinking of bat habitat is unbearable at some places.

80 feet cave below the ground level. Adventurous experience. Narrow passages, and steep stairs, so be careful. It was built by King Mayura Verma of Kadamba dynasty.

The speciality of the place is the cave. The caves are narrow, better to take a guide before entering the cave. Carry a torch light as it is pitch dark inside. There is a nearby Lake built by mayur Verma. Auto available from Chitradurga city . Ample parking also available

Had heard a lot of stories about this mysterious place. Finally had an opportunity to visit. The cave was an enigma. Have to take a guide for proper explanation of the architecture and history. The lake looks serene surrounded by rocky hills.

Chandravalli is an archaeological site located in the Chitradurga district of the state of Karnataka, India. The region is a valley formed by three hills, Chitradurga, Kirabanakallu and Jolagudda. It is a semi-arid region with scrub vegetation with a stream running through it. It's very scary inside the cave, as there is no light and for the next 20 mins you have no connection with outside world.

It is a nice place to explore with a bit of history involved. The parking is good and huge. The main cave is accessible through a small walk, then followed by 30-50 steps to the top of the small hillock. The cave is small and very dark. we took help of guide (charged 200 Inr), who had shown important places inside with little bit of history associated. Unlike other caves, which would span in length, this Chandravalli cave is a small cave of 80-foot depth at the most deepest point. However, it doesn't feel such deep while taking the tour. This place is used by sage to stay with proper living, drawing, meeting room, bedroom, and pooja rooms. It is also carved out of a hill underground. As per the guide, it is also a place for the king when there are enemy attacks. The cave is designed with multiple exit doors inside as a way to confuse enemies The cave itself is very dark and small with little steps inside. In some areas, one needs to care for head and walk with some amount of bending. The meeting room inside is a very calm place no matter how much noise is on the ground level. The cave is designed with natural air circulation and does not feel suffocatiated at all. Apart from Cave , the surroundings behind the cave have some big rock structure which looks like eagle in one view and like a snake in second view. Worth the visit for history lovers.

Chandravalli has a tremendous history. A guided tour will help you understand the place rather than me writing a review here. It’s a must visit when you make a trip to Chitradurga. Raja Mayura Verma, the first Kannada King formed his army on the banks of the river in Chandravalli facing the Davalappana Gudda. The ASI have maintained this place well but they have a pathetic behaviour. They are very rude to people and collect money as their wish from people. This should be condemned. There is no board saying photography and videography is prohibited, but they still force us to refrain from it in a rude manner. There is no board which has details of ASI officer in charge. This needs to be reflected. Other than that the place has its own beauty.

Gigantic standing rocks are the main attraction of this place. Ankalgi mutt here has a temple under a huge boulder, consisting nine Shivalingas, five pertaining to Panchapandavas and remaining four to their Shishyas (followers). A lake of a size of over 1 hectare is also an added beauty to this place. Good vegetation provides natural cool in afternoon.

Parking available. No entry fees. Best for evening walk, photoshoot. There is a cave which is almost 20feet deep. Don't enter the cave without guide. Guide fees 200-300rs for 30 minutes. Don't carry your belongings when entering the cave.

Mind boggling place !! Place is neatly maintained, Little park , Lake area , archeology site. Perfect place for one day family picnic. I wonder how our ancestors made this miracle and how they were using it. Truly amazing cave structure and its kepps us wondering that how someone could build and use such grand cave structure 80-100 feet below the earth. Some say it dates back to Chandra Gupta Maurya timeline , not sure if its true but definitely its beyond Nayaka dynasty I sure we cannot explore all the passages inside cave structure as its pitch dark and we get lost trying to explore. Only god knows complete depth and detaiksnof every known and unknown passages.

Amazing experience of going 80 feet under ground! This place takes you to the hideout of kings and where kings and their generals used to have discussion in secret dark room down. This also is a mutt of seer who had come from N Karnataka and hence also called Ankali Mut. Take Guide without fail as you wouldn't be able to figure your way through caves. This place is next to serene lake and fantastic rock formations! Don't miss it! This is also a holy place with a temple where Pandavas have installed 5 Shiva-Lingas. So don't make this as a picnic spot and please respect the sentiments of people. Don't come and make this place dirty with food and liquor!
