Considering the historical incident, the place is worth visiting. But unfortunately the place is not well maintained as you can see plastic wastes everywhere.

The guides stationed at the entrance are genuinely friendly and knowledgeable, though their proficiency in English is limited. My husband, fluent in Kannada, accompanied me and served as our translator. I highly recommend hiring a guide; not only is it easy to lose your way, but they also highlight many overlooked details. Ticketing proved to be a cumbersome process due to the mandatory QR code system. For foreigners with intermittent cellular connectivity, this could pose challenges, especially since cash transactions aren't an option. Additionally, if your group comprises both Indian citizens and foreigners, separate transactions are necessary. Ensure you wear appropriate footwear, preferably athletic shoes, as the staircases vary in height and some paths are uneven. Opt for early morning or late afternoon visits to avoid the scorching sun, as shade is minimal. Given my fair complexion, sun exposure was a concern for me. Despite spending a mere two hours there, we only touched upon its vastness. The site, with its historical significance and remarkable examples of ancient Indian ingenuity, remains largely underrated. If you're exploring Hampi, it's a must-visit. Alternatively, if you're in Bengaluru or nearby regions, consider making a trip. I genuinely believe the Government of Karnataka has a golden opportunity here for promoting tourism, preserving history, and fostering state pride.

Wow !! Thrilling story of obavva protecting what is rightfully our's at any cost !! Very inspiring place for every feminists to understand what exactly feminism means. Salute to brave ordinary lady who was a wife of servant of watch tower at that time who made supreme sacrifice by displaying extraordinary courage and guts. 🙏

This is a must place to see in the fort. This is for the warrior woman called Onake, she fought against the soldiers of Hyder Alii in 1779 and killed so many of them. Our history is full of such women which our school texts never talk about.

It's one of the key points of interest within the Fort. Made famous by an old Kannada movie. It's a long walk from the entrance. Unlike during the incident of bravery by Obavva, there is a large opening next to the actual opening which was defended by Obavva. At times I understand you can enter from the larger opening and crawl through Obavvana Kindi, check with the guide. A large structure at the top of the pathway which is her grave/structure to honour. It would be good if there is more information displayed and prominence given. Since there's climbing up and down involved, best to avoid rainy season.

This is a location inside the Chitradurga Fort where a brave woman, Onake Obavva, single handed fought off the intruders trying to enter the fort. Hyder Ali besieged the Chitradurga Fort thrice between 1760 and 1779. Obavva, the wife of a soldier guarding the fort, was substituting her husband during a lunch break, on one such attack. She heard some attackers trying to infiltrate through a crevice in the fort, and hiding behind the crevice hit and killed many of Hyder’s soldiers with an Onake (pestle). Her heroics have made her a legend in the folklore of Karnataka state, and there is a statue commemorating her bravery in Chitradurga town. We visited this spot in February 2018.

This is the place where famous onnake obbavva killed many soldiers of Hyder Ali in 1779 CE . Soldiers of Hyder Ali tried to enter the fort through the Hanchina Bagilu . Hyder Ali had used his money power to buy the minister of Chitradurga and took the blue print of the fort and attacked the fort . The story runs like this -- Obbavva's husband had come for lunch in the afternoon and was having meal in home and obbava went to bring water and while going for fetching water obbava noticed enemies entering the fort through Hanchina Bagilu, and since it was a tradition in that time that , we shouldn't disturb person(esp husband ) When they are having food and so obbavva didn't inform her husband about enemies and single handedly killed many enemies, but at last, she was killed by them. Obbavva's home can be seen near to this location.

Amazing historical place must visit to know more about history. Huge fort with multiple layers of walls and natural rocks making a formidable defence against enemy of that time. Engage a guide and learn more about the importance of that place. Highlight of Chitradurga fort is Onake obavvana Kindi. Now controlled by ASI but lot of graffiti damage done to the walls and rocks.

Nice to see and mimic how actually Obavva did plot to kill enemies herself with a lot of dare. Enemies wouldn't have had a chance to escape back from this small passage. They would never have expected what would come next.

Most popular place of Chitradurga fort. Who don't know about Obavva and her story from kids to elderly people in Karnataka everyone adore her bravery. This place has a huge fan base. It is usually very rush and no one exits without watching this place. Obavva's house located very near to this place.

With a light drizzle, it was a good climb with the kids just before noon. Small Water streams were a relief and a playfull memory for your feet. The ever amazing kotiraja also entertained us and gave us few life enhancer tips. Only letdown if i have to mention r the online ticket booking at the entrance gate and t monkey friends as u climb up. They are accostomed to snatching your water bottles in their quest for clean drinking water🙈🙉🙊.

The place is filled with unruly crowd and with no civic sense too. They are a complete nuisance. Obavvana kindi is about a KM from the main entrance u got walk/climb steps which is quite a tedious one.

Wonderful place. But involves a lot of walking. Don't go in the afternoons. Early morning is suggested. Entry fee : 25 per head. Dslr camera : 25 rupees cost Take a lot of water along as it can get tiring. Involves a lot of steps /stair climbing, so please don't take people who have knee issues

Cleanliness, Archeological Department has to concentrate heavily as there is no clean water for drinking, Security guards negligence, cleaners push plastic into the lake. I have posted the picks of the dirtiness. Concerned department to take immediate action

  • 4/5 Sunildatta K. 4 years ago on Google
It's historical significance. This place said to be where Obavva killed many intruders who tried to enter the fort through this opening. The place is well maintained. This opening is supposed to be a water sewage system going out of the fort.

It's beautiful, now they have sealed the entry from outside into the fort through this obavva kindi. Obavva killed the hydar Ali soldiers trying to enter fort through this kindi, and served and died in the Battle on same day by hyder Ali soldiers attack from behind.
