Kadalekalu Ganesha is one of the largest statues of Lord Ganesha that exists in the southern part of India. The shrine housing the statue of Kadalekalu Ganesha is situated on the slope of the Hemakuta Hill in Hampi. It is a remarkable monolithic statue and one of the most popular tourist sites in Hampi. The towering statue of Kadalekalu Ganesha is 15 feet tall. The belly of Ganesha has been chiselled in such a manner that it resembles a Bengal gram (known as Kadalekalu in the local language). Hence, the statue has been given the name of Kadalekalu Ganesha.

This giant statue of Ganesha was carved out of a huge boulder at the northeastern slope of the Hemakuta hill. The belly of this statue resembles a Bengal gram (Kadalekalu, in local language) and hence the name. A sanctum is built around the statue. The pillared hall in front of this sanctum is as charming as this giant statue itself. The open hall constructed by unusually slender and tall pillars. Each of them is highly ornate with mythical themes.

The Kadalekalu Ganesha, named after Ganesha's gram-shaped belly, is in the middle of Hampi's sacred centre on the east side of the hill near Matanga. A colonnaded, open mandapa leads to the sanctum, which houses a monolithic image of Ganesha more than 4.5 metres (15 ft) high, which was carved in-situ from extant rock. Ganesha's tusk and other parts have been damaged, but the left handβ€”which holds a rice cake treat with his trunk reaching out for itβ€”has survived

One of Hampi's large buildings is the Kadalekalu Ganesh temple. The monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha is shown in the temple. About 4.6 meters is the height of the idol. The term Kadalekalu was given to the idol because the Lord's belly resembles a black gram. Due to Shivarama Karanth's opposition, our government's plan to fix the front piece of the belly was halted, and the half-finished stone is now visible from the outside. There are several carvings and sculptures that make up the entire temple. On the side of the Hemakuta Hill is where this temple is situated. One may see the stunningly scenic panorama of Matanga Hill and the Hampi bazaar from the temple's hall.

My visit to the Kadalekalu Ganesha in the ancient town of Hampi was a journey into the heart of art and spirituality. This colossal monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha is not only a testament to the architectural prowess of the Vijayanagara Empire but also a site that exudes an aura of reverence and wonder. Kadalekalu Ganesha, named after the nearby Kadalekalu (gram seed) boulder, is an impressive representation of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity revered as the remover of obstacles. The statue, standing at an imposing 4.5 meters (about 15 feet) in height, is hewn out of a single massive boulder. Its size and craftsmanship are awe-inspiring, and it immediately captures the attention of visitors as they explore the Hampi Heritage Area. The statue is notable not only for its size but also for the fine attention to detail that has gone into its creation. Lord Ganesha's serene countenance, the ornate jewelry, and the stylized representation of his attributes make Kadalekalu Ganesha a work of art that exemplifies the sculptural mastery of the Vijayanagara artisans.

Its gigantic! Carved out of a single block of a granite stone, the statue of Kadalekalu Ganesha is another finest example of great creativity and the excellence of the craftsmen of ancient era. The interesting fact about this monolithic Ganesha statue is, the belly of Lord Ganesha is shaped in such a manner that it resembles a Bengal gram (called as Kadalekalu in Kannada or Black Chana Daal in Hindi) which is rounded on one side and flat on the other. The walls and pillars of the temple have some beautiful carvings of various Hindu religious characters and themes.

The temple has traditional stone architecture and is located on Hemakuta Hill and has a huge 15 feet monolithic statue of Lord Ganesha which is a believed to be one of the largest in the world. The reason why the attraction is called Kadalekalu is because the belly of the deity is chiselled to look like Kadalekalu (Bengal gram).

The monolithic Kadlekalu Ganesha is so called, for the closeness in appearance, of the shape of its belly to the unsplit Bengal Gram. The sculpture is carved out of a single boulders in situ, and stands at 4.5 mts its high. Dated to the 15th century, the seated Ganesha sculpture is four armed, and bears in each hand a tusk, good, noose, and a bond or sweeimeots, respeciively. It is enshrined in a simple sancium with a vestibule and an open ornate pillared pavilion in trot. The tall slender pillars are sculpted with depictions of various Hindu Gods and Goddessess.
