Though it was a hot day, we felt a pleasant peace while visiting there. The entire wind was soothing. Basically its a monument of World war ii. In between 1939-1945; some of the martyrs of British, Indian, East Pakistan, West Pakistan were mass graved there. Though it has a sorrowful story, it is a great historical place to visit.

In the Second World War, deep water port of Chittagong was both an advanced base for the operation in Arakan and a considerable hospital center. The cemetery was created for hospital deaths, and was enlarged lately to receive burials from isolated sites. Second World War warrior’s graveyards are in this Cemetery. There are 755 graves in this graveyard of the great warriors who died in world war from 1939 to 1945 in Chittagong areas. In this well-preserved cemetery at a quiet and picturesque place within the city lie buried in eternal peace over 700 soldiers from British, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Myanmar, East and West Africa, The Netherlands and Japan who laid down their lives on the Myanmar front during the World War II. Its a burial ground for the soldiers who died during 2nd world war. There are about 755 graves at this war cemetery. Most of the soldiers buried there were from United Kingdom-378, Canada-25, Australia-09, New Zealand-02, Undivided India-214, East Africa-11, West Africa-90, Myanmar-02, Netherlands-01, Japan-19 and Non-soldiers-04. It is maintained by Commonwealth Grave Commission.

(Translated by Google) Chittagong War Cemetery Commonwealth War Cemetery Chittagong is a monument of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission which is commonly known as Chittagong War Cemetery. After the Second World War, the British Army established the Chittagong War Cemetery. Due to the training of the army during the war and the facilities of the British General Hospital No. 152, the Allied forces of the Second World War set up a camp of the Fourteenth Army in Chittagong. The hospital was active from December 1944 to October 1945. At that time, a large number of soldiers in the camp were sent home wounded. And in honor of those who lost their lives in the war, a group of British soldiers erected the tomb shortly after the end of World War II. Initially, it was possible to bury about 400 bodies in this tomb under the supervision of the army. At the end of the war, additional bodies were shifted from Lusai, Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore, Cox's Bazar, Dhoya Palang, Dohazari, Rangamati, Patia and other temporary cemeteries to this cemetery. However, at present there are 631 tombs out of which 16 have not been identified. There are about 20 tombs here among the foreign nationals (Dutch and Japanese) killed in World War II. Among the citizens are 37 from UK, 25 from Canada, 9 from Australia, 2 from New Zealand, 214 from undivided India (Bangladesh, India and Pakistan), 11 from East Africa, 90 from West Africa, 2 from Burma, 1 from Netherlands and 19 from Japan. John. According to the profession, there are 543 soldiers, 194 pilots and 14 sailors in this cemetery. Apart from wartime graves, there are 4 graves of civilians in this cemetery. Of the total graves, the identities of the people in 16 graves are not yet known. This is a very unique war cemetery where soldiers from commonwealth nations are buried here during WWII. It is also one of the quietest places in Chittagong you'll find. This place usually opens in the morning and lasts till afternoon - with a few hours lunch/prayer break at noon. This place is free of cost for all people.

Visited in April 2022. Cannot be entered inside by common people and need special permission for that. The outskirt area if the cemetery is nice but the frequented by young couples! This cemetery was established for Commonwealth soldiers and others who died in World War II. It was created by the British Army, and there were originally about 400 burials. Graves have since been transferred to this cemetery from the other sites of Assam and Bangladesh.

Commonwealth War Cemetery Chittagong is a monument of Commonwealth War Graves Commission commonly known as Chittagong War Cemetery. The Commonwealth War Cemetery is located at No. 19 Badsha Mia Road, Dampara area of Chittagong. The Chittagong War Cemetery was established by the British Army after World War II. During the war, the Allies established a camp of the 14th Army in Chittagong during the Second World War due to the facilities of the 152nd British General Hospital and the training of the army. The hospital was active from December 1944 to October 1945. At that time many soldiers were sent home after recovering from injuries in this camp. And after the end of World War II, a group of British Army established this mausoleum in honor of those who were defeated in the war of life. Initially, around 400 bodies could be buried in this cemetery under the supervision of the army. Also after the end of the war additional dead bodies were shifted from Lusai, Dhaka, Khulna, Jessore, Cox's Bazar, Dhawa Palang, Dohazari, Rangamati, Patia and other temporary burial grounds to this cemetery. However, there are currently 731 tombs out of which 17 have not been identified. There are about 20 graves of national foreign soldiers (Dutch and Japanese soldiers) who died in World War II. John According to profession, there are 543 soldiers, 194 airmen and 14 sailors in this cemetery. In addition to the war graves, there are 4 civilian graves in the cemetery. Besides, there is a memorial Vidyaman of Chittagong-Bombay of Second World War (1939-1945). Built in the first half of the fifties, the cemetery has an open field outside. Access is open for visitors daily from 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 5 pm, which varies slightly during winter and fasting periods. Description: This mausoleum is built on a hilly road in the southwest corner of the Chittagong Medical College. The atmosphere of the entire tomb area is simultaneously picturesque, solemn and serene. A short walk from the main gate of the war cemetery entrance, two small red brick churches and metal gates are visible. A memorial chest is placed in the church on the right hand side. During the Second World War, about 6500 sailors and soldiers died in the Indian merchant sea whose bodies have never been found. Their names and titles are preserved in this memorial book. In the church on the left hand side is the cemetery register, which contains the names, designations and brief introductions of the buried servicemen. From the gate, a magnificent cross-marked altar can be seen in the center of the burial ground. After that there is a prayer room to the east. Outside the War Cemetery are open fields and beautiful gardens. There are 40 species of trees in this cemetery in a beautiful natural environment. There are cedar, gourd, mahogany, eucalyptus, palm trees. Besides, hundreds of local and foreign flowers and plants including gandharaj, beli, patabahar, lenthana, rose, letterleaf have created an extraordinary heavenly charm in the tomb. This place was established in honor of Commonwealth soldiers who died during world war two. Another one is situated at Cumilla.Well maintained place. But there are some rules you have to follow in the cemetery like you are not allowed to sit or run there. You can take picture by your mobile not DSLR.

This is a historic place. On the second world war many soldiers(mostly British) came India to fight against Japanese. For that most of them had to sacrifice their lives. But not having good communication system britisher had decided to bury their dead bodies on this ground. For this this place is called war cemetery. Most of people come here to take selfies instead of knowing the actual history & the commemorate of soldiers. Anyway, this location has it’s own beauty & mystery.

Chittagong War Cemetery is in Dampara locality, No.19 Badsha Mia Chowdhury Road, 22 kilometres north of the airport and 8 kilometres from the port on a site which was formerly paddy fields, but which has now been developed. It is near the arts college and close by Finlay's Guest Houses near Chatteshanry Road; a well known road leading to the Hindu Kali Bari Temple. There is no C.W.G.C. road direction sign. The Burial area is situated at the bottom of a slope directly behind Finlay's Guest Houses and is surrounded by a large area planted with a mixture of jungle trees, fruit trees and flowering trees. It is not easily seen from the road. A narrow tarmacked lane leads from the entrance gate to the burial area which is entered through a metal gate flanked by two small brick chapels. The cemetery gates are open from 07.00 to 12 noon and 14.00 to 17.00. Within the cemetery will also be found the Chittagong Memorial which, together with the Bombay 1939-1945 War Memorial, to be found in the Indian Seamen's Hostel Bombay, commemorates over 400 sailors of the former Indian Navy and nearly 6,000 sailors of the former Indian Merchant Navy who were lost at sea during the war years. Each memorial takes the form of a finely bound volume containing the names of the dead. The cemetery was created by the army, and there were originally about 400 burials. Graves have since been transferred to this cemetery from the Lushai Hills (Assam) and other isolated sites, and from Chittagong Civil Cemetery; Chandragona Baptist Mission Cemetery; Chiringa Military Cemetery; Cox's Bazar New Military and Civil (Muslim) Cemeteries; Chittagong (Panchalaish) Burial Ground; Dacca Military Cemetery; Demagiri Cemetery; Dhuapolong Muslim Burial Ground; Dhuapolong Christian Military Cemetery; Dohazari Military and R.A.F. Hospital Cemetery. There are now 731 Commonwealth burials of the 1939-45 war here, 17 of which are unidentified. There are a further 20 Foreign National burials, 1 being a seaman of the Dutch Navy and 19 Japanese soldiers, 1 of whom is unidentified. There are also 4 non war U.K. military burials.

Most beautiful place in the center of CTG. Local people don’t know the location when you tell them about war cemetery. You have to tell them “pachlaish “where dead people being buried. The place simply beautiful with organized stuff works. Anyone can wrongly mention this place as “Switzerland” when you roam around this whole area.

Chittagong war cemetery is the relic of second world war in Chittagong. The cemetery holds the graves of martyrd commonwealth soldiers during the world war . It's been established during 1939. Has been through some great modifications and beautifications after that . It's a beautiful site to visit. As it's a place in city it's always buzzing with visitors . As it's a memorial, visitors has to follow certain rules and decorum while they are visiting.

The War Cemetery in Chittagong is a somber and poignant tribute to the fallen soldiers. With its well-maintained grounds and serene atmosphere, it offers a fitting resting place for those who sacrificed their lives. The beautifully arranged graves and memorials evoke a deep sense of respect and gratitude. It's a place where one can reflect on the price of freedom and honor the bravery of those who fought. A visit to the War Cemetery in Chittagong is a humbling experience that leaves a lasting impact.

Chattogram Commonwealth War cemetery, popularly known as Chittagong war cemetery. This is one of the two historical war cemetery in Bangladesh that were developed during the world war II. It was active during 1939-1945, when Chittagong was used by the British and American soldiers. Christian martyrs, mainly British were engraved in this field. A total of 733 commonwealth burials are there among which, 17 are unknown. Along with the commonwealth graves, there are graves of 20 more foreign nationals—19 Japanese soldiers and a Dutch Navy seaman. It is situated in the bottom of a slope. As far known, it is still a property of UK. Front side of the graveyard is a beautiful lawn with plenty of jungle tree and wood trees. People often go there for walk at morning and at evening, lots of people go to pass leisure time, as the scenario is very calm, quiet and beautiful.

Chittagong War Cemetery is a cemetery of world war 2 soldiers who died fighting the war. It is situated on Badshah Mia road behind the Amirbagh residential area. This place is quite calm and beautiful. It is well maintained and have a nice view. The place is closed after 5 pm and there is a break too from 12 pm to 2 pm. Generally couples and students pay their visit to this place. The place is very clean and there is always a guard who always keeps his eyes on the visitors. This place is not that much crowder and no food stall or any other stalls are placed around this place which makes it more calm I guess. This place makes you to respect the martyrs of the WW2.

This cemetery was established to show the honor for the soldiers and others who died in World War II, one of them was Lt Jamshed Manekshaw (Jimmy), he was defending the Indian territory against the Japanese in the Dohazari region of the Chittagong front during World War II. Jamshed died in action in Dohazari and he became an unsung martyr. Lt Jamshed Manekshaw died on May 14, 1944. Lt Jamshed belonged to Bulsar in Gujarat state of undivided India and he worked in Kabul in Afghanistan before he joined the Indian army as a commissioned officer. He was sent to fight against the Japanese Imperial forces in the northeast part of India and in the Chittagong's areas.

This is one of the best places in Chittagong city to enjoy peace and tranquility in that busy city life. The cemetery is in a hilly location. Although the surrounding area has been changed a lot and some multi-storied buildings came up, its beauty and serenity have not been lost. The cemetery is well maintained, and green. Some of the big trees have been trimmed to maintain the green grass. The main part of the cemetery remained close during weekends, especially on Friday. It's a good place to visit with family and friends.
