Chittagong Medical College (CMC) is situated in the port city of Chittagong, Bangladesh and is the oldest and largest medical college in the south-eastern part of the country. Maiden Principal Professor Altaf Uddin Ahmed, Minister of Health and Social Welfare (East Pakistan) Dhirendranath Datta, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, District Magistrate MA Rashid, Police Super, Central Health Minister Zahirudddin was present during the inauguration ceremony of Chittagong Medical College, 20 September 1957. This hospital still is the last hope for most of people of Chittagong division who cannot afford medical care from private clinics and hospitals. Hope, someday it will provide medical services as like any other international hospitals.

I can say, Not a great service you can get due to rush of incoming & existing patients. Authority can administer a bit more so that minimum standard of service can be ensured. You have to give tips to fourth class workers at every point immediately after you enter at emergency. Doctors are helpful, but not others.

Chamek is one of the government hospitals in Bangladesh. It is more developed than before. Beauty is enhanced, service is improved. One of the trusts in the treatment of people who are financially less well off. However, a long-standing problem with the nanny-ward boy and gate darwan to settle minor matters with money remained intact. Demanding a certain amount of money to arrange a wheelchair for the patient, to take him from one ward to another ward, to prepare the seat. They have no dress code, not even an ID card around their necks. I came to know from the public that those who work as nannies and ward boys are not paid any salary. So they demand money from patients. Such a system cannot exist in a government hospital. It is not known how true it is that they are not paid at all. Patients are the most harassed by them. Chamek is now more advanced than ever. Hopefully, the rest of the problems will be resolved in the future. G-Translet: CMCH is one of the best government hospitals in Bangladesh. Chittagong Medical College (CMC) is situated in the port city of Chattogram, Bangladesh and is the oldest medical college in the south-eastern part of the country. It is affiliated with a tertiary level hospital where clinical students are trained in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and other sub-specialties. Chittagong Medical College Hospital was established at the present site in 1960 with only 120 beds and the outpatient services. At that time the young hospital housed only the Departments of Surgery and Gynecology and Obstetrics. Chittagong Hospital Housed the department of Medicine and allied specialties still 1969 and thereafter it remained affiliated with Chittagong Medical College Hospital as one of its teaching hospitals. Construction of the present purpose-built six-storied CMCH was completed in 1969, which now accommodates all the clinical Departments including all their subspecialties. The hospital, which had a capacity of 500 beds initially, gradually increased its strength to 750 and finally to 1313. It runs outpatient departments in various specialties The independent turnover in 1999 was about 50,000. Over 18,000 surgical operations were performed that year. As years passed, new treatment facilities kept being added and at present a nuclear medicine Centre for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, a coronary care unit, an endoscopy unit, a kidney dialyzing unit, a Model Family Planning Centre, a Centre for Extended Program for Immunisation (EPI) are among the many facilities available to the in & outpatients. However, a very large number of patients are gathers here most of the times. So are are Bed & Sit crisis & patients are here & there on the floors. Authority must be more careful to improve the services so that patients may not suffer.

The outsiders who are not staff of the morgue have no responsibility for the safeguard of the bodies and morgue. It is obvious they are conmen only there to prey upon the families of the dead. Their only income source is realising money illegally from the relatives of the deceased. And Iit is clear that the morgue staff who “appointed” them outsiders there get a the share of this illegal income. The authorities have proved themselves to be dangerously by being so callous with human suffering just to make some petty cash. not taking proper measure to stop the illegal and inhuman activities. What would be the answer of the authority of these questions--how the outsiders get key of the morgue rooms? Is it safe if outsiders work in the morgue? Why have not the authorities paste sticker in front of the morgue that would read, “No fee is required for autopsy” or “Autopsy is performed free of cost”? Why have not the authorities “identified” the middlemen? Why have not they initiated to probe into the matter? We want an end of this inhuman activity. It is the duty of the CMC authorities to stop it immediately. We demand the authorities to paste notice in the morgue to aware people. We demand them to identify the middlemen and to probe into the matter as to who have “appointed” the outsiders in the morgue. We demand punishment of the liable staff.

As it is a public hospital you can already guess the facility is not better than the private but costs less than private.

It’s understable to get less proper service because of over population and limited budget and less man-power. But I wish CMC will be increased not only in academically but also in facility and kind-hearted service.

It was my Alma mater. And I am truly ashamed that they don't even have a functioning ECG machine in the emergency room, let alone the process of doing any kind of life saving emergency treatment procedures in THAT 'ER' aka emergency department. Such a shame. The staff pretend they are more important than the doctors are. Why a govt. Hospital will ask for Tk. 2,500/= for covid 19 test? Where as people can do it in Dhaka for only Taka 100/= or 200/=?? A despicable place with disgusting service.. 😡😠🤬 …

Only the top tier students get the chance to study here. Because of stiff competition your education qualifications should be top notch to be eligible to study here.

The efforts given by the doctors are substantially undermined by the lower-grade employees of the hospital. The brokers around the hospital are a problem. All of them hinder the way of proper treatment for the general public. There are a lot of issues with this hospital that need to be addressed as soon as possible. This problems are more severe in the current COVID-19 situation. People are harassed in the name of treatment here. Yet they choose to come here, because this is often the last resort for them. Even when everyone turns them away, CMCH treats them. But it is hindered by corrupt employees of the very hospital.
