(Translated by Google) The century-old traditional Oscar Dighi. Once upon a time, a huge lake of clear water used to take away the peace of mind of the people of this region. I used to take a bath in the morning. In the afternoon, sitting on the bank of the lake would relieve the fatigue of the mind. But that lake has become the main cause of sorrow today. Illegal slums around the lake have been swallowed up. This Oscar lake has become the dirty face of the beautiful Jamal Khan. The water of the pond has been wasted due to garbage. Has become a mosquito breeding center. This dighi can no longer be used by anyone. On 26 January 17, the Mughals defeated the Arakanese and captured the fort of Chatigaon. The Mughals had many faujdars. The second faujdar of the Mughals was Askar Khan. Askar Khan's real name was Abdullah Beg. And the full name was Nawab Askar Khan Bajme Sunny. He was the ruler of Chittagong for three years from 179-181 AD. During the Mughal rule, there were 10,000 soldiers in this fort. Nawab Askar Khan dug this lake to facilitate the supply of water to the troops. There are many legends about this 'dighi'. The history of this lake is about 300 and a half years. Location of Askar Dighi in Jamal Khan area of Rahmatganj mouza. The area is known as this lake. According to the common legend, Chittagong was a jinn-inhabited country in ancient times. Pir Badr Shah came and chased away the jinn with the help of the light of the miraculous chaatir (earthen lamp). Since then the name of this town is Chatigaon. Ashkar Dighi is a huge water body into the heart of the Chittagong City. Naturally it is really wonderful. Many People are living surrounded by the Pond. There are two Hindu temples one is Lokhnath temple another Ramakrishna Sebashram. One Mosque is near the Ashkar Deghi. The pond is not well cleaned and maintaining as needed. Still there are lots of trush found and plople living here use this for their different regular purposes. Should be considered and concerned for keep Ashkar Deghi clean and well maintained.

Nestled among the lush green surroundings lies the majestic Ashkar Dighi, a testament to the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region. For over three centuries, this sprawling site has stood the test of time, covering an impressive five acres or roughly 15 bighas. The Dighi's serene waters and tranquil ambiance offer a glimpse into the past, reminding us of the people who built it and the legacy they left behind. To preserve this invaluable piece of history, it must be protected by law.
