It's e very good place to represent Bangladeshi culture and tradition. Sonargaon is a wonderful place to visit. Specially for those who enjoy the history and culture most. It is one of the old capital of the historic region of Bengal. The scenery of this place is very charming. Well maintained place compared to other historical places where you can meet many things at one place like nature, museum, art and craft, doll dance, boat journey, fuska- chotpoti and obviously fresh air. This museum has an extensive and varied collection of crafts. The old building (Sarder Bari) is under renovation. General entry fee for the whole area BDT 50 per person is ok, but extra entry fee to visit only Sarder Bari is BDT 100 is definitely too much. Anyone can make a single day visit plan with family and friends.

It's a awesome spot to address Bangladeshi culture and custom. Sonargaon is a brilliant spot to visit. Exceptionally for the people who partake in the set of experiences and culture most. It is one of the old capital of the memorable district of Bengal. The landscape of this spot is extremely enchanting. Very much kept up with place contrasted with other verifiable spots where you can meet numerous things at one spot like nature, exhibition hall, craftsmanship and art, doll dance, boat venture, fuska-chotpoti and clearly outside air. This exhibition hall has a broad and differed assortment of specialties. The old structure (Sarder Bari) is under remodel. General section charge for the entire region BDT 50 for each individual is alright, however additional passage expense to visit just Sarder Bari is BDT 100 is certainly excessively. Anybody can make a solitary day visit plan with loved ones.

This museum has an extensive and varied collection of crafts. As with most museums in Bangladesh, the exhibits could use some sprucing up. The lighting could be improved. The sign boards could provide more insight. But the vast array of objects makes this well worthwhile. Although the old mansion is not really furnished, it provides great insight into life at the time of it's occupation.

A very good place to explore the culture of Bangladesh and the history of cultural Bangladesh. You can spend a quality time with your family and friends. There is lot of things available to enjoy. There are a lot of instrument that aren't use anymore at the village life or at the town life. If you want to explore all the area it will take at least 4 to 5 hours in hand and all the required things you want.

This is a great place for a short day trip with friends or family. Here you can see some of the remarkable works of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin with this beautiful green environment. Here you will actually get back to your childhood, get back to the things you read in your childhood books, handicraft fairy tales. Specially a great place for kids to hangout.

The actual museum building showcases a lot of items and antique pieces that represents the folk culture of our country. There is wide open spaces with grass field, lake and lots of trees. Visitors can rent boat and enjoy a boat ride around the lake. The entry fee for the total area is 50 taka per person. There is a parking area just outside the main gate.

People of all ages can visit here. The museum area is quite big. There is a picnic spot in the middle of the museum area. There is also a pond/small lake. You can take a boat ride there. In the museum area, there is a canteen and few food stalls to provide foods to the visitors. There is enough amount of washrooms for male/female also.

There are many historical artifacts in the museum here. If we know that we can know detailed information about our history, tradition and culture. Due to re-innovation, the place looks like new. When the entire work is completed, hopefully many local and foreign tourists will increase and the interest of foreigners to know about our history will increase. Moreover, in a very open and serene environment, you can visit near Dhaka in a very short time.

I just felt walking in a regular park to be honest. Quite large space with some greenery and walking roads inside. I was wondering where's the museum things actually. There was a antique building named 'sardar bari' which was quite good looking. But most disappointing facts was there's another 100/- fee to enter there individually and totally differently. There was a lake and boat rides. (Just boat ride business) Library was big but with very few and specific books. There was many kind of shops with some crafts and folk item, which was good to go. (Nothing special) Recommended place actually. As there's not many options to visit from dhaka, so it got that type of advantage tho. Good luck.

Sonargaon is a historic city in central Bangladesh. It is one of the old capitals of the historic region of Bengal and was an administrative center of eastern Bengal. It was also a port and trading center. During British colonial rule, merchants built many Indo-Saracenic townhouses in the Panam neighborhood. Sonargaon was central to the muslin trade in Bengal. I loved this place but avoid it in holidays...

Sonargaon is one of the old capitals of the historic region of Bengal  and was an administrative center of eastern Bengal. It was also a river port. It's hinterland was the center of the muslin trade Bengal.,with a large population of weavers and artisans. According to ancient Greek and Roman accounts, an emporium was located in this hinterland, which archaeologists have identified with the Wari-Bateshwar ruins. The area was a base for the Vanga, Samatata, Sena, and Deva dynasties. Sonargaon gained importance during the Delhi Sultanate. It was the capital of the sultanate ruled by Fakhruddin Mubarak Shah and his son Ikhtiyaruddin Ghazi Shah. It hosted a royal court and mint of the Bengal Sultanate and also the Capital of the Bengal Sultanate under the reign of Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah. Sonargaon became one of the most important townships in Bengal. Many immigrants settled in the area. The Sultans built mosques and tombs. It was later the seat of the Baro-Bhuyan confederacy that resisted Mughal expansion under the leadership of Isa Khan and his son Musa Khan. Sonargaon then became a district of Mughal Bengal. During British colonial rule, merchants built many Indo-Saracenic townhouses in the Panam neighborhood. Its importance was eventually eclipsed by the nearby Port of Narayanganj which was set up in 1862. Sonargaon draws many tourists each year in Bangladesh. It hosts the Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation, as well as various archaeological sites, Sufi shrines, Hindu temples, and historic mosques and tombs.

Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Museum is located 1 km north east of Mograpara intersection of Dhaka-Chittagong highway. With the advice of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and with the financial support of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, the glorious institution Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation, which is also known as Sonargaon Museum, was established keeping the past memories in the historical Sonargaon. The museum is housed in an ancient zamindar palace known as "Barasardarbari" in Sonargaon. There is also a rich library, Karupalli and Nayanaviram, a huge lake. Sonargaon is a glorious ancient town in the history of Bengal. Sonargaon was the capital of ancient Bengal for about three hundred years. There are total 10 galleries in Sarda's house. The galleries have wood carvings, handicrafts, tapestries and masks, artifacts based on tribal life, rural folk life environment, folk musical instruments and terracotta artifacts, copper casa brass artifacts, iron artifacts, folk ornaments and many more. Zainul Abedin Memorial Museum is located a little to the east of the building in a modern building rich in folk architecture. There are only two galleries in this building.

I visited this place for the third time, yesterday. The entry fee is 50 taka, Boro Shordar baari requires another 100 tk buts that's only if you wanto visit that place. Then there is boat ridding and other joy rides like nagordola, there is a library, restaurant, several food shops and somewhere you can watch putul naach for 30 tk per show (not recommended). Overall the finest and cost efficient place near Dhaka to go for a picnic / outing with your family.

My heart melts when I see the ancient, beautiful sight of Bangladesh. It's too mesmerizing to witness the sight that once was a part of our country. But sadly, the new gen is not aware of our ancient culture. Parents should be more concern for their children nd should take them to the places where they might Learn about their country.

This is located at Sonargaon Upazilla in Narayanganj district. Mainly it is named by the great Bangladeshi Artist Upacharjya Jaynul Abedin. The Museum contains different household and Archaeological artifacts from the Mughal Emperors. Sonargaon was the capital of the Mughal Empire at that time. Many people visit there especially on the holidays and weekends. The entry fee for the natives is 50 taka and the foreigners is 100 taka per person. There is another palace inside named Shah Dorga Bari that has a separate fee of taka 100. There is an open space behind the museum and a pond in front of it. The overall view of the place is nice, a bit crowded on the holidays.

A Museum full of antique art & creative hand made products from the ancient period. Old terracotta, and many hand made things which were used by the people of that time period. Especially from the time period 1600 to 1900 century. Other than the Museum there is also a very big area for roaming around and having a picnic with friends and family. The surroundings are also very beautiful and enjoyable. Ticket = 50/- TAKA

Bangladesh Folk Art and Handcraft museum is one of the few places to know about the history of the indigenous people of this locality. The collections of this museum witness the daily life style, culture and the talent of the rural people of that time. This place is highly recommended for the history lovers.

I went there on a Monday with a bunch of friends via car. We left boshundhara at 9 and reached there at 10:30. It was a weekday but wasn't crowded at all. We got our tickets to go see the museum but to get inside the old timey houses gotta buy separate tickets I guess. It's a great place to visit with friends. There's picturesque views for your picture background. The museum has bunch of fun stuff. For example it had Joynul Abedins used toothbrush and other stuff just there inside a glass box. There's 2 floors.. There's shops to take home gifts. We bought handicrafted bags, mirror, wooden comb, jewelry etc. There's also a nagordola that looks wobbly and dangerous but is actually safe and fun. Then we moved to panam city to check out the old buildings. All in all good time.

Sonargaon , The center of silk route. Now, It's History ! Sonargaon was the capital of Bengal (Bangladesh), from 1250-1608. Sonargaon meaning City of Gold. was a historic administrative, commercial and maritime center in Bengal. Situated at the heart of Ganges delta, near the old course of the Brahmaputra River, it was the seat of the medieval Muslim rulers and governors of eastern Bengal. Sonargaon was described by numerous historic travellers, including Ibn Battuta, Ma Huan, Niccolò de' Conti and Ralph Fitch, as a thriving center of trade and commerce on the silk route.

One of the entertainment and tourism centers of Bangladesh in a pleasant environment. Currently the entrance fee is a little extra. Visiting the Sonargaon Bangladesh Folk art Museum was truly a captivating experience that allowed me to delve into the heart of Bangladesh's rich cultural heritage. Created with immense efforts and dedication by the renowned artist Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, this museum stands as a testament to his vision of preserving and showcasing the essence of Bangladeshi folk traditions. Upon arrival, the museum's location amidst the historical town of Sonargaon immediately sets the stage for an immersive journey into the country's past. The traditional architecture of the museum itself reflects the spirit of the region, providing visitors with a sense of stepping back in time. Inside, the exhibits pay homage to the diversity and vibrancy of Bangladeshi folk culture. The meticulously curated galleries feature an impressive collection of artifacts, handicrafts, and artworks, each offering valuable insights into the daily lives, customs, and traditions of the Bangladeshi people. From intricately designed folk musical instruments to colorful textiles and pottery, every exhibit is a masterpiece that captures the essence of the land. One of the highlights of the museum is the extensive display of artworks by Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin himself. His masterful strokes vividly portray the essence of rural life, celebrating the beauty of simplicity and the profound connections people have with their natural surroundings. The artist's passion and dedication to capturing the essence of Bangladeshi folk culture shine through in every brushstroke, making these exhibits a truly exceptional addition to the museum. Furthermore, the museum's thoughtful layout and informative descriptions accompanying each exhibit add significant value to the overall experience. Visitors can easily grasp the historical context, symbolism, and significance of each artifact, enhancing their appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship that went into their creation. While the Sonargaon Bangladesh Folk Museum is a treasure trove of cultural wonders, there were some areas that could be improved. A guided tour or interactive activities would be beneficial to provide a more immersive and engaging experience, especially for younger visitors. Additionally, incorporating multimedia elements, such as audio guides or video presentations, could enhance the overall storytelling and offer a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage for a broader audience. In conclusion, the Sonargaon Bangladesh Folk Museum is an extraordinary testament to the dedication and hard work of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. It serves as a gateway to the captivating world of Bangladeshi folklore, offering visitors an opportunity to connect with the roots of this vibrant nation. Despite a few areas for improvement, the museum remains an essential destination for anyone eager to explore the rich cultural tapestry of Bangladesh and witness the timeless beauty of its folk traditions.

Sonargaon is a glorious ancient town in the history of Bengal. Sonargaon was also the capital of ancient Bengal for about three hundred years. Sonargaon was chosen to look back on our golden tradition against the backdrop of the Sultanate period. The importance of Sonargaon waned after the capital was shifted to Dhaka in 1608 during the reign of Mughal Subedar Islam Khan. Yet Sonargaon also takes us back to the golden past. With the advice and financial support of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the sincere efforts of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, the glorious Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation, also known as Sonargaon Museum, was established in the historic Sonargaon. The Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation was established in Sonargaon, Narayanganj on 12 March 1975 by the government with the aim of collecting, preserving, exhibiting and reviving the traditional folk and handicrafts of Bangladesh. Sonargaon (Bengali: সোনারগাঁও; pronounced as Show-naar-gaa; meaning Golden Hamlet) is a historic city in central Bangladesh. It corresponds to the Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj District in Dhaka Division. Quick Facts: Location, Coordinates ... Sonargaon is one of the old capitals of the historic region of Bengal and was an administrative center of eastern Bengal. It was also a river port. Its hinterland was the center of the muslin trade in Bengal, with a large population of weavers and artisans. It hosted a royal court and mint of the Bengal Sultanate. History Antiquity Ancient Sounagoura, mentioned by Claudius Ptolemy, may have been located near Sonargaon in the Wari-Bateshwar ruins Sonargaon is located near the old course of the Brahmaputra River. To the north of Sonargaon are the Wari-Bateshwar ruins, which archaeologists have considered to be the emporium (trading colony) of Sounagoura mentioned by Greco-Roman writers. The name Sonargaon originated with the ancient term of Suvarnagrama. Sonargaon was ruled by Vanga and Samatata Kingdoms during antiquity. The Sena dynasty used the area as a base. The Deva dynasty King Dasharathadeva shifted his capital from Bikrampur to Suvarnagrama in the middle of the 13th century. Sonargaon is also one of the possible locations for the fabled land of Suvarnabhumi that is referred in cultures across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Ruins of a palace in Sonargaon Delhi Sultanate (13th and 14th centuries) Muslim settlers first arrived in Sonargaon circa 1281. In the early 14th century, Sonargaon became part of the Delhi Sultanate when Shamsuddin Firoz Shah, Delhi's governor in Gauda, conquered central Bengal. Firoz Shah built a mint in Sonargaon from where a large number of coins were issued. Delhi's governors in Bengal often tried to assert their independence. Rebel governors often chose Sonargaon as the capital of Bengal. When Firoz Shah died in 1322, his son, Ghiyasuddin Bahadur Shah, replaced him as ruler. In 1324, the Delhi Sultan Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq declared war against him and succeeded in capturing Bahadur Shah in battle. During the same year, Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq released him and appointed him as the governor of Sonargaon. Sonargaon began to develop as a seat of Muslim learning and Persian literature. Many Persian and Persianate Turkic immigrants settled in Sonargaon. Maulana Sharfuddin Abu Tawwama of Bukhara came to Sonargaon circa 1270 and established a Sufi khanqah and madrasa, which imparted both religious and secular education. The institutions became reputed throughout the Indian subcontinent. Sharfuddin Yahya Maneri, a celebrated Sufi scholar of Bihar, was an alumnus of Sonargaon. Tawwama's book on mysticism, Maqamat, enjoyed a strong reputation. During the administration of Roknuddin Kaikaus (1291-1301 AD), son of Nasiruddin Bughra Khan, Nam-i-Haq, a book on fiqh (jurisprudence), was written in elegant Persian poetry,

(Translated by Google) The most interesting part of Sonargaon was the big Sardar's house. If you go inside this old house, you will not feel how old it is, but you will feel that you have entered a small palace. Inside, the whole model made of glass on one side of the building is very eye-catching. Some old spinach, furniture will catch the eye in this building. Tickets are to be collected at the entrance to this building. 30 minutes is given for each ticket. A well maintained place where you can meet the nature, art and craft and obviously fresh air. A very nearby tourist spot of Dhaka, only a hour drive from the centre. Outside good isn’t allowed to take inside, so local biriyani houses are the options for lunch. You can have your own lunch at outside of the centre You can visit the Museum, palace, have a boat ride, pass some time at the library, or sit by the pond to enjoy the serenity. A good place for a day trip.

It is a huge place that contains Sonargaon Folk Art Museum, Boro Sardar Bari mansion, huge lakes, several picnic spots, a library, and a peacock-shaped stage for folk programs. Schools from all over the country bring their students here for study trips. It is also a popular picnic place among the locals because of the picnic spots which are possible to book for a whole day. Buses full of people from far away come here for a picnic every day. Sonargaon Museum was established by the famous painter Joynul Abedin in 1975 on an old house called Bara Sardar Bari. Also, a new museum was established in a later period inside the premises, focusing mainly on the long heritage of textile in the Sonargaon area. Located inside the Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation, the Boro Sardar Bari is a big mansion of a wealthy Hindu merchant, which was built in 1901. Sonargaon Museum was originally established here by the famous painter Joynul Abedin in 1975 on this abandoned mansion property. It was established on this building after doing some simple renovation. Artifacts related to the heritage of Bengal from the 17th century onward used to be displayed in this museum. Visitors could see here things people used to use in their everyday life which the city-based new generation is unaware of. Daily-life tools, ornaments, furniture, treasure box, arms, musical instruments, boats, decoration pieces, and many other things related to the heritage of Bengal were the main attraction of this museum. In 2012, a Korean company took a renovation project to restore the building to its’ original state. The renovation work has been finally finished, and the museum opened for visitors again in 2020. They’ve done marvelous work to restore the building and its premises, including the pond in front of the building. A separate ticket is now required to visit this museum. Visitors are allowed to stay inside for a maximum of 30 minutes. However, the exhibits have not been returned to the museum after it reopened.

The museum itself is not that great. Inside Full of dust and anyone can realize that how badly it has been managed. But the surrounding of this museum is great and that's the reason people visit this place. However Inside of this museum there are many old artifacts that will surprise you and make you think that how things were back then. As the place was dirty and full of dust we restricted our tour up to the ground floor and didn't visited other floors. Considering the monumental value of this place, Management should be more active to take care of it.

The Folk and Crafts Museum is located in the Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation area of Sonargaon. Handicrafts of the illiterate artists of the neglected villages of Bangladesh, daily use products of public life have been placed here. In these artifacts, the traditional folk art of ancient Bengal flourished.

There is a folk art and craft museum for the visitors & tourist travelling in Sonargaon. Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum remains open from morning to afternoon (9 AM to 5 PM). Wednesday and the Thursday, this museum is closed for weekend. This is prosperous with several unique collection those you’ll never find at any other place. Some are lost from our country, and only those are remains. The main museum building is placed at the “Sardar Bari”. “Sardar Bari” was built by a Hindu Zamindar of Sonargaon in 1901. Alike the other Zamindar house of that period, this one also looks like Indian houses, but the shape of the house was looked like the European Palaces. The baroque decoration and the elaborated painting on the plaster of the building are really eye catching.

Certainly, here's a review for tourists to engage with and post on Google Maps: "Visiting the Bangladesh Folk Art & Crafts Foundation, also known as Sonargaon Jadughar, was an enchanting cultural experience that I can't recommend enough to fellow travelers. Nestled amidst serene surroundings, this foundation is a hidden gem for those seeking to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Bangladeshi folk art and crafts. As a tourist, I was immediately captivated by the tranquil ambiance of the place. The lush gardens and well-maintained grounds create the perfect backdrop for exploring the rich heritage of Bangladesh's folk art and crafts. Inside, the exhibits are a visual delight. From intricate textiles to beautifully carved wooden sculptures, each piece tells a story of the country's artistic legacy. It's a journey through time and culture that truly opens your eyes to the incredible talent of Bangladeshi artisans. What sets this place apart is its commitment to preserving and sharing these traditions with visitors. Engaging workshops and interactive displays allow tourists like me to get hands-on with the art forms and techniques that make Bangladesh's culture so unique. The staff here are not just experts; they're passionate advocates for the preservation of folk art and crafts. They're eager to share their knowledge and make your visit educational and enjoyable. Getting here is easy, and the location offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or just someone looking to discover something new, the Bangladesh Folk Art & Crafts Foundation is a must-visit destination. It's where tradition and contemporary appreciation come together, making it a cultural treasure worth exploring during your trip to Bangladesh. Don't miss out on this enriching experience!" Feel free to post this review on Google Maps to help fellow tourists discover and appreciate the Bangladesh Folk Art & Crafts Foundation.

Just outside of the city of Dhaka, lies one of the most historic cities in Bangladesh, namely Sonargaon. With its magnificent ancient buildings and monuments, it is only fitting that this wonderful capital would become home to a museum that captures and preserves the traditions and culture of the people of Bangladesh. The Folk Art Museum, or Folk Art and Crafts Museum, was established in Sonargaon in 1975, which has not only become a major attraction in the city, but also for the entire region. The museum is located on a picturesque fifty hectare piece of land that consists of breathtaking landscapes, peaceful artificial lakes and ponds, and of course the structures that make up the Folk Art Museum complex. The main museum concentrates it attention to the skills and expertise of the artisans and artists of the country. The two smaller Folk Arts and Crafts Museums exhibit wooden crafts, brass, bamboo and metal crafts, painted work, musical instruments, pottery, textiles, ornaments and much more. Other facilities at the museum complex include a crafts sales centre, restaurants, crafts village, library, rest house, documentation centre, stage and godwon. Local families visit the complex not only to explore their own history, but to enjoy the tranquility of the complex. What once was only a dream for Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, a legendary painter in Bangladesh, has become a complex filled with history, education and beauty. The Folk Art Museum is a wonderful attraction to visit while in the Dhaka region, and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Discover the Folk Art Museum, and discover Bangladesh.
