If you like nature, you'll like the place. Mangrove forest, birds, deer.... We were there for two nights and not for a single moment we felt unsecured. Even at midnight, it was safe outside. The only problem is almost everyone there will try to rip you (as a tourist) off every possible way. So be aware of getting overcharged.

Nijhum Dwip (Bengali: নিঝুম দ্বীপ, lit. 'Silent Island') is a small island under Hatiya upazila. It is situated in Noakhali District in Bangladesh. Once it was called Char Osmani, Baluar Char, Golden Island Buffalo Herd at Nijhum Dwip A cluster of islands (mainly, Ballar Char, Kamlar Char, Char Osman and Char Muri) emerged in the early 1950s as an alluvium in the shallow estuary of the Bay of Bengal on the south of Noakhali. These new sandbanks first drew the notice of a group of fishermen, who named it Baular Char (literally, the alluvium of sand) later transformed into Ballar Char. Migratory Birds in Nijhum Dwip: During winter, thousands of migratory birds flock in to island. The fishermen use the airy and sunny land as an ideal place for drying their catches from the sea. Sometimes many of them also construct straw huts on the island as seasonal residences. In 1974 the Forest Department took an afforestation program for a duration of twenty years in the north side of the island. Covering an area of nine thousand acres, it has now developed into a deep forest with a variety of plant species. Among the trees Keora is much seen. Besides this Gewa, Kankra, Bain, Babul, Karamja, Pashur and many other species are seen. On 8 April 2001 the government declared the 40,390 acres (16,345 ha) of forest of Jahajmara range including 9,550 acres (3,865 ha) of forest land on Nijhum Dwip as a National Park for the protection and development of the biodiversity of the forest. But in practice, there a very lazy appearance of that declaration. It was named 'Nijhum Dwip' by former Minister Amirul Islam Kalam in 1975 observing its isolation and mild nature. The forest department of the government of Bangladesh created mangrove forests in Nijhum Dwip and the main attraction in these forests is the herd of about 5000 cheetal or spotted deer. The most common type of planted tree species in the island is Keora, also known as Kerfa, which has fast growing roots holding the sandy land. The plant also supplies pillars for houses, materials for making boats and agricultural implements, and fuel for domestic use. In 2001, the government of Bangladesh declared the forest area as Nijhum Dwip National Park in the year 2001. Now this island has been declared as the unique eco-touristic spot for its ideal natural setup with the rich bio-diversification factors and the perennial mangrove forest with wild animals like spotted deer, wild boar and rhesus macaque and for the ideal habitat for fish resources. Since south coast is open to the mouth of a great span of Bay of Bengal, whales were sometimes seen though very rare nowadays.

It wasn't a good experience for me to visit Nijhum Dwip. You can't get good accommodation facilities as well as food even if you spend a lot of money. However this is our duty to keep the natural beauty safe. And last thing don't ever think that you will see a lots of Deer. In term to see them you have to go in deep mangrove forest without making any noise. Best of luck.

In other words Nijhum Dwip National Park is a mini mangrove forest. This national park is being maintained by the Government of Bangladesh and declared as sanctuary of deers. Canals and trees in this national park is very scenic. Anyone can observe the park and the parts of the Nijhum Dwip from a watch tower situated in this national park.

People who only are adventurous I only recommend them to go there. It is not a place for general people to spend the holidays. There is many hassles to face to go to the Nijhum Dwip. Firstly you go to Chairman ghat, Nowakhali. From there you can take sea bard at 7 am or Trollers at any time. Ticket rate: 250/- BDT Environment : So much gathering and sea sickness confirm Then you will take a CNG from Hatiya ghat to the Muktaria ghat which is at the end of Hatiya Rate: 700-800 BDT Roads: too much garbage. Painful journey Time taken: 1.30 Hours At Muktaria ghat you should take a speed boat to get on Nijhum dwip. Rate: 100 BDT Then from NIJHUM dwip ghat take a CNG again and go to the area where people lives. Rate: 250 BDT Road: not so good Thus you go to Nijhum Dwip. 🙂👍

If you're traveller, good food and residence is not an issue then yeah it's a place which you may love. But if you're a tourist then it's a big no. The journey towards this island is a hectic one itself then there are not so many sites to visit. The beach is very far from the Bazar.
