Really nice place to walk around (without cars) and just relax. Many food/drink choices. Read more: The central square of Nea Smyrni is NOT just another city square. I am sure I will persuade you. 1st of December 2022 by Maria of @TraveladvicefromaGreek If you pass by Athens, you certainly have to stop to this 20acres pedestrianized square. It’s a bustling walking square with many options for grown-ups and children. It’s my favourite cause it has it…ALL. Coffee shops, cosmetics, clothes, delicious booze coctails and succulent burgers-pizza-souvlaki&gyros-spaggetti-ice cream-crepes-mexican food-sushi etc. etc.. It also has round gazebo for group therapies, banks, cycle path and even a playground for smaller kids., but most important’it has access for handicapped everywhere. Do you want to rest your mind by getting lost in your thoughts in a quiet surrounding? Choose a bench at the bottom to stare at the flower beds. Do you want to rest inside the buzzing? Choose to sit in a cement low-wall next to the cool fountains that change colours -in the middle of the square- or behind the statue of El.Venizelos to give you inspiration. Do you want to participate or mingling to artistic and cultural events? Many of them are taking place such as book fairs, 1st of May celebrations with books-jewels-flowers, Ionic celebrations with concerts from famous Greek singers and actors, political gatherings, celebrations of sporting successes, Christmas fair with cotton candy-train-popcorn-ice skating and many more. Inside the urban scenery of the large capital of Athens, Nea Smyrni square is a green oasis for everyone for every hour and every moment. Do NOT miss it!!! Ohh, and it’s so easy to reach it by tram or bus. PS: If you are a nature lover, then in one minute you will find the grove to walk around under the pine trees.

An incredible Square in an Athens suburb only 35 minutes walk from the center... It has better shops than the Center... An excellent place to spend the day, the square is a safe haven for families with children...

Probably one of the best neighbourhood squares in the greater Athens area. It has everything: a tram stop, fountains, cafés, shops, places to eat, ice-cream shops, and most significantly no wheeled traffic.

It's a nice and lively place, there are cafes and restaurants right next to it, the tram line goes back and forth between glyfada and syntagma.

It was our first stop in Athens. A beautiful and wide square with a pool in the middle. Very nice to spend time here during summer evenings.

A very crowded and vivid square with lots of cafe and restaurant. The less noisy hours are early in the week days.

I was impressed for the quality of the structure. Unbelievable clean, in perfect order. A safe place to walk also with your kids and let them play in total security. Walk the dogs is also allowed. The surrounded are of cafè, restaurants and bars makes this place really fancy and unique.

Marks and Spencer in Athens! As a Brit now living in the US I love finding an M&S overseas. This one is small, basic but had lingerie, linen clothes and biccies. A plus Athens A plus!!

I've been going there all my life, it has been upgraded tremendously over the past years. You can do everything, from going for a coffee to eating pizza and pasta and souvlaki.

A lively neighbourhood Athens square with choice of bars, cafes and restaurants, including a water fountain feature, pharmacy and a couple of recognisable high street shops like Zara and Benetton. I prefer it to central Athens (syntagma/acropolis area) as it’s so densely populated with tourists. NEA Smyrni provides a snapshot of contemporary greek local city living. Feel like a local in this neighbourhood! There is also a well-known rock bar 3 min walk from the square called “Epitokio”.

Beautiful place full of life, but usually not too crowded. Lots of options for food and drink and easy parking on the polis park

Beautiful place with many cafe-bars to chose from, lots of green and good for a walk with your dog or anyone you want! There are also many places to eat in the square and in the surrounding area. For drinks I would recommend Pop up, New Habits and Gaston. For food I would recommend Μπαρ Μπε Κιου, Nakama, Mailo's, Vissente, Kenko and StreetWok. In close proximity you can also visit Park of Nea Smyrni(Άλσος Νέας Σμύρνης), where you can find a lot of green and its nice for a walk and to realx!

Nea Smyrni square is one of the most, probably the most, beautiful square in Athens; lovely, green, well organized, plenty of water features, all kinds of coffee shops, restaurants, and commercial shops. It's very lively, spacious place. Full of people almost always.

The square should be given to the people, families and kids to play and not to the bars/coffee shops that occupy the middle of the square with their tables and chairs while the wanna-be next N.Smyrni Mayor is just looking around

Great place to stroll around. Then, find a place to sit with a cup of coffee, and people watch. The only draw back, are the beggars, who can be quite aggressive and target the tourists.

Great square to relax and enjoy some food, coffee, or drinks. Plenty of options and seating. Parking nearby can be difficult in peak times, but the square is easy to get to via metro links and the subway.

Traffic free, full of people in the plethora of cafés and restaurants or the free space. Be careful of concentrations without COVID-19 masks; they happen.
