If any Cathedral geeks like myself want to give their senses a real treat you really need to make your way to Leeds . Leeds Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Anne , the Mother of Our Lady and will knock you sideways it really is that good . The foundation stone was laid in 1902 and is a masterpiece designed by architect J H Eastwood and his assistant . I am almost shocked to hear it is only grade 11 listed . The beautiful paintings of the stations of the cross are by Cesare Formille who also created the Statue of the Sacred Heart . The Pieta statue was created by Boulton of Cheltenham and is breathtaking . The Sanctuaries Reredos has Our Lady as its centrepiece surrounded by Yorkshire Saints including St Wilfrid . The Lady Chapel is a treat for you Pugin fans the Reredos here is designed by the man himself and again is beautiful . I was mesmerised while I was here i wouldn't kid you it truly is that good . In St Urbans Chapel there is a great modern painting from 1988 by Richard Lomas of the Diocesan Martyrs of the Reformation Period . My only regret about visiting this architectural masterpiece is that I took so long to get here . My pictures certainly do no do this wonderous sight justice

An interesting building and quite a small cathedral compared to many others in the UK. The cathedral is surrounded by fascinating architecture and sculptures.

The earlier St Anne's Roman Catholic Church, built in 1838 on the corner of the Headrow and Cookridge Street was granted cathedral status in 1878 upon the creation of the Diocese of Leeds. The cathedral is small in size due to its restricted site. The cathedral has an aisled nave and chancel under a continuous roof with narrow transepts and chapels. There is a chapter house and presbytery. It is built of Weldon stone with Ketton stone details. The west front has a tall gable between large buttresses that end in Gothic turrets. The western face has a large ornate crucifix sculpture. The northern face has mock-Georgian elements to it, including leaded bay windows. The church has a small tower to the north west corner, from which the flag of the Vatican City is flown. The interior has a conventional layout, with rows of pews facing towards the altar, there are two rows of stone pillars set along each side. The ceiling has a barrelled shape, with only a faint apex. Very beautiful architecture and history, unfortunately we couldn't go inside as there was mass going on at that moment.

The cathedral had a unique atmosphere and feel to it compared to the cathedrals in Rome, for example. It was quite small for a cathedral, but I think this made it more welcoming. The architecture was stunning. Did not attend the mass, but I would love to if I had time.

Leeds Cathedral is a beautiful Catholic church built in its current location some 100m crow's flight from the original site in 1904 after a demolition of St Anne's Cathedral to build what at present is The Light. Daily services are performed, providing sacred refuge from hustle and bustle of the city.

A spectacular cathedral; very smart and respected by those visiting. It carried a nice balance between a "working" religious building and a tourist attraction, with people visiting for prayer as well as visitors to Leeds.

Beautiful cathedral. So lovely to find an example of a beautiful Catholic cathedral in England (they are normally lost to the protestant reformation). Having said that, this looks like an old cathedral with it's attractive gothic style, but it was actually built as recently as 1904.

Lovely Christmas music by the Leeds Male Voice Choir and the Yorkshire Brass Quintet ...We joined in to a lot of it. There was humour and Santa Claus gave us a visit. We enjoy it every year.

Leeds Cathedral is one of the finest Catholic Cathedrals in England. Dedicated to Saint Anne, the mother of Our Lady, the Cathedral is situated in the heart of Leeds city centre and contrasts with the surrounding new hotels and office blocks, The Light shopping centre, and the Victorian Town Hall. The Cathedral is a place of silence and prayer which provides a refuge from the activity of one of Britain’s busiest cities. This atmosphere of peace has grown through the daily celebration of the Liturgy, and every afternoon there is silent Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. This sense of God’s peaceful presence is the Cathedral’s chief glory. The Cathedral is part of the Parish of Mother of Unfailing Help which incorporates the Church of the Holy Rosary, Chapeltown.

Very peaceful and beautiful inside, have to admit I shed a tear. Not a place to wander round as much as larger cathedrals, had more of an active church feeling, but lovely to sit and collect your thoughts. Stained glass windows stunning. not to far from the main shopping area so nice to take a break from the madness of life.

I used to visit here for the Sunday mass. The church staffs including volunteers are extremely supportive and kind. Our family had lived in Leeds for 4.5 years. During that time, Leeds Cathedral was our spiritual home. May be the first in our list if we visit Leeds again. Enjoyable: 5/5 Design: 5/5 Staffs: 5/5 It's a little weird to say the church is enjoyable. But the church itself is a true jewel of Gothic architecture and worth visiting even if you're not a Christian. The welcoming and peaceful atmosphere is always in our heart. Thank you so much, Mgr Philip Moger and Fr Matthew Habron.

Leeds Cathedral is a stunning building, and in terms of provisions to the local Catholic community does well. I particularly love that Confession is available every day except Sunday - I only wish it was available on Sunday also, however I think this would be difficult due to the schedules of the priests. Eucharistic adoration in the afternoon from Monday to Friday is fantastic and the provision of two masses or more most days is extremely welcome. It's easy to see what's going on in the parish, however it can be a little difficult to connect with the community unless you attend the Sunday morning mass and coffee morning.

Magnificent arts & crafts building is home to a vibrant and diverse congregation. The cathedral is renowned for its choirs: it has the best choral singing of any catholic cathedral in the UK (except, perhaps, Westminster).

I attended both the mid day and evening Mass at the cathedral. If you love music, please do attend the evening Mass as you'll feel like you're in heaven with the rendition by the choir.

I visited the cathedral for solitary prayer at a time when I was struggling immensely. I burst into tears whilst in prayer and cried until my nose began to run. I asked a member of staff for a tissue, to which he responded "this isn't a shop". It seemed as though this man couldn't wait to get rid of me. If one cannot turn to the church even for a tissue in one's time of distress these days then we all might as well declare the Catholic church to be spiritually dead.

St Anne's is a beautiful cathedral. Outside of Holy Mass, Evening prayer is particularly special.

Social distancing is practiced. The priest was approaching each of the mass-goers observing social distancing and asking them if they are ok and you can share their feelings to him. Really appreciate him so much.

Our third day in Yorkshire. After having a good night sleep we took the bus where we had breakfast again at San Co. Finished a little early to go to the railway station right away, so we decided to make a short visit the Leeds Cathedral. Nicely renovated and we had a quick 10 minutes to look around this small cathedral.

I went yesterday to the midday service because I felt depressed after the death of my mother and I wanted to speak to a priest and after the service and I didn't see any priest and I asked the nun why is there no priest to talk to and her reply that they all come out on the Saturday evening service and Sunday service and I thought they call them self a priest when needed if Jesus was here he would have listened and give time no wonder that people have lost faith in the catholic church not all priests are bad but this cathedral is the worst nice building not the priest and it would have been nice for the nun to call the priest but she didn't and it's very sad if it was not persons going to the church and giving donations the church would have gone long ago so have respected and give time instead of being money grabber and don't care

Absolute waste of time. Previously I've been asked to take my hat off and today everyone and their mother was wearing one. The reasons why or why not are irrelevant. I'm not even going to talk about my visit today. Go to Leeds Minster instead. The Priest was VERY rude and I kept my relative calm. Church of England is way more inclusive than some of these bloody buffoons.
