An interesting historical spot that offers a small museum and several ruins of various sugar plantation buildings. The ruins are in various conditions and all are signed to provide insight on what your looking at. On site interpreters are available to provide additional insights and answer questions. A small $2.00 USD per person donation is requested and dropped into the box by the guest book in the museum. The charge is reasonable for what you see.

Opens at 9:00. Recommend you read up on the Codringtons beforehand for a richer experience. If you have an interest in the history of Antigua a must visit. The slave dwelling is particularly disturbing, when juxtaposed with Dodington Park, ancestral home of the previous owners of Betty’s Hope. I do wish however people would stop using the word plantation to describe this place. The correct word is slave labour camp.

Warning this post is not Ye friendly at all as it deals with truth and honesty about history and slavery. Betty's Hope Sugar plantation is a historical walk through time to a century where sugar is king. The very placement of the plantation on the island is evidence of the power of capitalism without morals and socialist controls or put another way "absolute power corrupts absolutely". The views from atop Betty's Hope are incredible. The windmill used to grind the sugar cane touched the sky and demonstrated the power it took to get that sugar to become Rhum and molasses. I don't want to spoil the overall experience for you but unlike anything you will ever experience in colonial Williamsburg this short but sweet historical time machine allows you to walk in the shoes of slaves and slave masters of that bygone era.

This is a worthwhile visit when visiting Antigua. Unfortunately there is not really a great deal left and it doesn't really convey the feeling of misery that that those unfortunate people would have suffered for a lifetime. Even so it is a solemn reminder of the greed and avarice that fed the coffers of many rich English and Scottish families who owe their great wealth of today to the exploitation of other human beings

Went here as a excursion from Sandals vacation. Was disappointed that no one is maintaining this property. It's very overgrown by weeds. The information plaques showed how much the archeologist cleared the site and how nice it was. What happened?? Who dropped the ball on this. Very sad to see. Over all I did enjoy it. But did not enjoy Sandals tour guide running me off property because everyone was done eating. The Island Routes description was nothing compared to what you experienced. I love historical sights and learning. Felt like I was being rushed. We were way ahead of schedule and I wanted to take more pictures and read more about it. Description said a 4×4 safari tour with lunch at Betty Hope's Plantation. It actually was a Nissan truck with 10 seats, tour of neighborhood houses instead and it was a picnic lunch outside with same food from 4 other excursions we'd been on. No creativity or change of menu.

Interesting history and a cool place to visit. Lots of ruins, but one sugar mill was restored and you could see inside what it would have looked like back in the day. We were told they no longer export any sugar. Lots of goats wandering around the area. We ate lunch here and then were a bit rushed to leave due to our tour, probably need about an hour to walk the sites and read the history.

A must-see to understand Antigua’s troubling history. Run by a local conservation group, there’s a mixture of ruins and some restored components. Visitors are encouraged to make a $2 USD donation to help with future restoration efforts. There’s a small museum room that provides some overarching context with artefacts (with WC facilities) and each of the ruined buildings has a plaque with a little additional information. The restored windmill is quite a landmark, and the ruins of the rum distillery are impressive too. Some great wildlife on-site, we saw a green hummingbird! Quite a lot of guided tours stop through this area - we had 30 minutes with Antigua Voyages Scenic Tour, could have spent 45-60 minutes quite easily.

Extremely interesting site that stands as a fascinating/sobering reminder of the colonial history of the island. Seeing a fully restored sugar mill in the flesh was amazing and the story of the largest sugar plantation on the island is well detailed through plaques and the museum. Absolutely worth a visit to understand the other side of the history alongside English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard. Highly recommended.

Took the Pink Panther Tour, one of the stops was at Betty's Hope Plantatio. Interesting to learn about some of the history of the beautiful island of Antigua.

I great place to see some history. You only need an hour to see the place. There is a small entry fee. There is a small office building where you can read about the history of the place. I personally found it quite moving and was brought to tears reading the information on slavery. A shameful history on the disgusting treatment of human beings.

Very interesting history with buildings to see and photos to go along with. Small area to walk and see things, but its important historically and only $2 to get in, so very worthwhile.

Fullnof history and a live excavation site being restored. Massive guilt for the slaves that worked there, but a really educational place. Also the jerk chicken under the tree was a great picnic

A quick stop to Betty's Hope Historic Site on the way to the airport by our awesome taxi driver Walter. Awesome!! First intact sugarmill I've ever seen. A true treasure.
