This hostel was really good. The staff are friendly and super helpful and they offer a lot of little extras that make the experience better, like beach towels, surf boards you can borrow, breakfast, earplugs etc. The whole hostel was very clean as well. There is a full kitchen available to make your own food, a grocery store nearby and some great restaurants. Our first night was a bit noisy with some inconsiderate guests being super loud but other than that it was a great stay.

What a great place to stay! Very impressive! The staff were very, very friendly & kind. The cleanliness was exceptional and the amenities are superb! You won't go wrong if you choose to stay here. I loved the large kitchen, patio & TV room. Parking was convenient as well.

Sweet surfer dude hostel with a club atmosphere. Anyone can feel welcome here. Clean, friendly staff, good breakfast, amazing common area courtyard. They also have many beach toys and accessories to rent or borrow for free including towels and sunscreen! Would stay here again.

I absolutely love staying here! The staff are always friendly and helpful. The entire place is immaculate all the time. It's in a great location. Close to a grocery and not too far from a shopping center with a Trader Joe's. The beach is only about a mile away. There's great pubs and restaurants near by. I walk everywhere without a problem. Plus there's a bus line close by. They have activities and group meals (for a small donation) as well as games to play and a TV room. You can also borrow surf boards and boogie boards and other items for a trip to the beach free of charge. My favorite spot is in the hammock on the patio. Most importantly, the beds are a travelers dream... So comfy! I by far prefer staying here over a hotel or the "party" atmosphere of other SD/OB hostels. Very relaxed accommodating atmosphere.

Absolute NIGHTMARE 😱 RUDE RECEPTION, Terrible service and terrible stay. Check in experience-terrible! I called 2 times the day I was arriving, and informed the reception that I arrive at 11pm. She we are here until midnight, but reccomend me to CANCEL MY RESERVATION AND BOOK IN THEIR HOSTEL DOWNTOWN!!! And disconnected the call! I called their downtown location, which I didn't want to stay at but ask information if is more quiet and peaceful. The downtown location confirm that they are very crowded and not calm. So I had to call again to this hostel and confirm my arrival-telling her details of my flight!! I was checking in at the airport just 1 hour after I talked to her and SHE SEND ME A LATE FEE CHECK-IN EMAIL!!! which I ignore. I arrived at 11.09 pm. She was EXTREMELY RUDE. Give me a bed IN ROOM WITH 5 OLD MAN'S!!! Even it was supposed to be MIXED -I SUPPOSE I WAS MIXING IT!!! Polite brionet with short hair and excellent customer service make my stay more comfortable on Thursday and move me to another dormitory. The stuff(on the reception) during my stay WAS REALLY RUDE AND NOT WELCOMING!!! I would have given a bad review anyway but today I got even worse treatment!!! I already requested to stay in the common area today because I needed a quiet environment. They said o sure!! This morning at 8.30 I went to the reception and reminded her about my request. She tried to tell me that is not okay that I must LEAVE!!! She literally kick me out 😂!!! I reminded her that I check in at 11pm and request the cortesy she turned away and ignore me! I also decided to ignore her. I had few things on the bed, I was on the balcony when she comes even I was on the phone and tell me I must LEAVE now!!!(time 10 or so am!) I confirmed that I will move my stuff away from the room shortly! After 5 min she walked out the room carrying a basket with my headset, which indicates that she went through my stuff, move my clothes and took the sheet off the 🛏️!!! I told her that I am going to file a complaint. I went inside and pack my bag(small backpack) carry on, but I left my stuff inside because I needed to charge my phone! And I sit outside on the balcony! After 40 min an oversight lady come and verbally attached me, Even I was on the phone!!! She aggressively and rudely said that I must leave!!! I told her hey you don't have to be rude or hostile! Her name is Jenny-THE MANAGER!!! I tried to share my experience and embarrassment! She interrupt me 25 time's and didn't listen to me! HER ADETUDE WAS FROM POSITION OF POWER. RUDE AGGRESSIVE AND EVEN MORE ABUSIVE THAN THE RECEPTIONIST!!! I TOOK MY BAG out-which seamed that was a big deal!!! The reason why I stayed on the second floor is because the phone Do not work on the first floor at all!!! There is something that interfere with the signal so it is bad! The Crowd in the hostel is really terrible!!! Old people age 65 and up. Pensioners and sick people who don't shower much. Many older man's creeping you pushing conversation with you and making unapropiet comments. There are older women's that look homles also around. Hostel RULES are NOT RESPECTED! PEOPLE enter and exit the dormitory loudly each time of the night, PACKING AND UNPACKING OR playing with bags and objects making exsessive noices for Hours!!! Just sleeping is not quite happening. Also the older GUEST'S are not clean and don't shower! The rooms smell very strong and unpleasant all the time. There is NO ACTIVITY IN THE HOSTEL ECSEPT exsessive cleaning all the time!!! Nothing friendly or fun around here. It is all rude and uncomfortable. There was a movie on Saturday night that nobody WAS INFORMED ABOUT, IT seamed that a woman just put a movie for herself on a projection wall. It was boring fantasy movie. No information about any activity ☹️ no information about Absolutely anything fun or friendly. The reseption stuff seam on hard drugs. The only reason I give 1 star is because the cleaning ladies are exseptional to keep the shower and toilet briliant clean. I would not stay here again. DO NOT RECCOMEND!

The best hostel I have stayed in in San Diego, having tried 3 different ones. The location is the only challenging part, but it helped with less noise at night! Everything else was top-notch: the rooms were spacious, clean, with good, sturdy beds (just welcoming), and windows that opened with nice blackout curtains. Bathrooms were renovated and clean. The common areas were renovated and clean, with a good decor and even included cool outdoor patio with furniture.

A wonderful hostel, everyone is so friendly and rooms and common areas are all very clean. Beautiful outdoor area and a huge kitchen area. The indoor living area is nice as well for lounging. You can tell the spaces are all very well thought out. Easy access to extra towels, blankets and pillows. Bathrooms are really nice, I never had any issue waiting for people. Baskets of individual hand towels everywhere to cut down on paper waste is awesome to see. Don't forget to bring your own lock if you will want one. Lockers are huge.

The staff have all been very nice and helpful. The place is clean, comfortable, and feels safe. The rooms are in good condition with nice beds. There's free WiFi, free continental style breakfast with coffee/tea in the mornings. They also have some free beach equipment and activities and some others that you can rent out for a nominal fee. The showers and bathrooms are clean and bright. There's a grocery store, library, and some restaurants nearby. I do not have anything negative to say, other than the hallways can be loud at night. I find pushing a towel to the bottom of the door helps as there is a gap there. They also offer free earplugs just outside the main office. I stayed on two separate occasions in two different rooms, they were both similar in design and comfort level. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice and more affordable option for your stay in San Diego.

We had a blast here. The rooms, showers and bathrooms we're very clean and the staff was as amazing as we could have asked for. We really didn't have any reason to call on them so our interactions we're limited. The full double kitchen was amazing and so very spacious considering this is California. If you plan on sightseeing, your probably going to need a car or Uber, the usual cost to and from any local beach was about $8, so plan the day out and it's not too bad. Regardless, we had a great time and will be back.

Great location close to Downtown, Convention Center, Balboa Park, Mission Bay. Real affordable rooms, pretty clean. Service is decent, but don't expect hotel accommodations. This is your home away from home, not a ritzy hotel. Which means no one at home waits on you. It's perfect for the adventurer.

You can not pick a better hostel in the SD area! Safe, clean & friendly- The vibe of the place is amazing and the beds are super comfy! The staff was very helpful and sincere. This was my first time in a hostel, but I will def stay with HI if I have the option! You won't be disappointed. Plus they have FREE breakfast and cheap dinners! So happy we stayed here.
