The maritime museum is fun to see ships of different ages. This is great for families, especially with kids who love "pirate ships". Very informative and interesting. Liked being able to go into ship

It has a lot of history. Going in and visiting it is like going back hundreds of years ago to experience the historical changes of sailing all the way. The development history of various ships is quite knowledgeable.

The Star of India is part of the Maritime Museum. The ship is well maintained with many areas accessible. It was much bigger on the inside than I thought it was. While we were there, there was the different groups of children learning about life at sea and the various jobs on the shop. It was great to listen to all the different areas. The ship is amazing with many things to see and read inside. Entrance to the Maritime Museum is not expensive and definitely worth the money, even if you are not into boats!

Nice nautical museum. Doesn’t get any better then San Diego bay! Fantastic location. We enjoyed a Father’s Day cruise aboard the ship and were extremely pleased!

Very beautiful ship! It was completely empty when I was walking around. They have a lot of literature for a self-guided tour. I especially enjoyed the story of the "Most Dramatic Incident". Sails were not up while I was visiting, but I've seen it before when they're up. That was slightly disappointing.

Oldest continuous sailing ship. A must-see in the San diego harbor. Admission to the museum includes multiple ships and a submarine.

This place is absolutely amazing. So much to see and interact with. I would give it 5 stars but when we went one of the ships were closed for renovation. Beautiful boats with such rich history and not to mention super affordable. Guys spend a day here, trust me you won't regret it. My kids had a blast and were exhausted by the end of the day.

They currently have a Sea Monsters exhibit that I am loving. I highly recommend this tour with the Maritime Museum. It gives access to the San Sandoval, the USS Surprise, the Californian and the Star of India. The USS Dolphin was closed due to weather. If you are a tall ship geek, give yourself a minimum of 4 hours to make your way through. Honestly, if I had more time I would have gone to lunch and returned. The tour package has in and out privileges. Also, buy your tickets online will save you $5 a person.

Historical ship It is a beautifully majestic ship, the Indian star is an old ship that was built in 1863 which makes it one of the oldest still floating ships. Note: the same ticket grants you access to multiple ships and submarines.

Every bit as majestic as it looks. But the highlight is when every so often it goes out onto the bay and raises all its sails.

The Star of India is the largest ship in the Maritime Museum and arguably the most interesting. Take the time to read the history of the vessel on the plaques spread throughout as it's quite interesting. The ship had an entire career of bad luck and suffered a mutiny (the first of many) on it's very first voyage. You can easily spend and hour walking through the exhibits. One important thing to note is bathrooms have been installed onboard for convenience.

Excellent conditions, kept to its time era, clean lots of information. We loved it and also is part of the marine museum so it all cost 15. You see everything for 15.00 and if you add 10.00 more you get a tour of the harbor and is very informative.

Really cool to read and think about the history that is built into this ship. If you are a paranormal geek, the ship is supposedly haunted with a teenage boy that likes to play tag. Really cool ship. Definitely recommend!

Everything about the Maritime museum is great. I would love to volunteer there to help out with the restoration. A picnic lunch on the top deck of the Berkley has one of the best views on the bay. If you live here, the annual membership is well worth it!

Maritime Museum of San Diego is home to a variety of ship on display including the Star of India a steel hulled sailing ship. The Pilot Boat historic Bay cruise is a bargain as a $10 add on to admission price that's also a bargain for what you can see.

A fantastic place to visit it you have a few hours to spare. The museum as a whole is full of interesting facts about maritime life and the vessels there. And the Star of India is like the shining gem it shares a name with. There are plenty of things to look at, and it took us nearly two hours to take it all in. For such a small fee (less than $20/person) it was well worth the trip.

What a cool part of the Maritime museum. Was so excited to see this ship and to see the restoration and all of the history housed inside of it. The volunteers took some time to help my kids make some rope and learn some various nautical terms and knots.

I love the Maritimes museum. Every time we fly out to San Diego we have to go check the ships. Maybe it's the kid in me but I love imagining owning something like that and sailing. The historical aspect of the ships are ao fascinating and when you go on the Berkeley the museum has lots of great history and stuff to look at. Words are 2 dimensional! You have to go check it out.

Great reproduction of the original version. Loved the detailed collection of items on the ship. Great way to spend your time. Part of the larger maritime waterfront, there are plenty of exhibits and photo ops!

I visited the HMS Victory in Portsmouth last year. The ship was amazing and the museum and dock facilities were top notch, I would highly recommend the trip if you love maritime history. San Diego, while lacking the use of a retired Navy base has a lineup of ships that is quite impressive. The subs are top notch and their collection of sea worthy ships is impressive.

It was a nice trip back into historic maritime. But with so much other great stuff going on in San Diego we did not have time to visit all the vessels which make up the Maritime Museum. Star of India, the ferry boat and one of the submarine vessels was all we could visit in our time frame.

Still a beautiful walk, day or night. Evening time the lovely museum ship is lit up from bow, to stern. It is quite the sight to behold. I'd recommend bringing yourself, and anyone you find dear for a lovely walk. Plenty of places in the neighboring downtown and little Italy area are doing take out, just bring it here for a quaint and happy place to sight see and enjoy your company and meal. Check it out!! lights are on almost every evening.

If you're visiting San Diego, take advantage of the Maritime museum tours and take a walk on the world’s oldest active sailing ship, the Star of India. You won't regret it. Here are some interesting facts that can be found on sdmaritime.org Launched five days before Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address Sailed twenty-one times around the world Never fitted with auxiliary power Went aground in Hawaii Became an “American” ship by Act of Congress Trapped in ice in Alaska Still sails in the ocean by a volunteer crew

Amazing display of maritime history! At night, the masts and booms are lit with incandescent bulbs. We took out our Freedom Boat Club Key West to check out this area. Lots of cool history. This is a great family stop, which is also right across from "Claim Jumpers" steak house... ask for Edna :)

I love the history of sea and land, and the history aboard this ship was great. You can tour this and the others that are docked. You can spend hours just taking and soaking in history. The Star of India is the oldest sailing ship in the world. No engines or mechanics aboard. And since it's made of iron it's roughly 70-80% of the original ship.

  • 5/5 Christopher L. 2 years ago on Google
Really cool experience. Reminded me of when I lived in Connecticut and went to mystic to see all the old tall shops there. Even though you couldn't go downstairs due to covid. It was still really cool to use my imagination on what it was like in those times.

The magnificent Star of India and the Maritime Museum collection of historic sailing ships is one of San Diego's top attractions. -- This "tall ship," technically a barque, was launched as the Euterpe on November 14, 1863 at Ramsey, on the Isle of Man. It is the oldest surviving merchant vessel still afloat. The entire restored ship, its decks and quarters are open to visitors, with numerous informative displays and ship models below decks. -- The Star of India is also periodically available for 4 hour sailing tours of San Diego Bay. Don't miss it. Check the Maritime Museum website for more information.

A beautiful ship, and although a part of the larger Maritime museum it is in itself a museum with many exhibits below decks. It would be great fun to take a voyage on her if the opportunity ever presented itself. Don't forget to look up and see the beautiful original stained glass in the ceiling of the main cabin.

Really cool tour. Can't recommend it higher if you like sailboats, and the history of sailing.

  • 5/5 Cooper DeMar C. 1 year ago on Google
The boat museum is one of a kind..... Like literally there is only this boat with so much history. To see all the floors, the size and the history is amazing. You are on a boat that has sailed the seas for over hundreds of years. I would have loved to have paid for the extra boat ride on it but it was a spur of the moment choice to go to the museum. Would highly recommend if you have the kids or super into boats too, or a history/museum buff! Ya har!

  • 5/5 meletia d. 1 year ago on Google
I'm afraid of boats but it was definitely worth it. It was beautiful and I had so much fun. And there are other boats to get on at that museum.

  • 5/5 Steven R. 1 year ago on Google
How about the ship it was close for visitors it was still pretty awesome just to be able to stand near it. This may be known as one of the tall ships but I just can’t imagine being out on the ocean bobbing around in heavy seas like a cork in a bathtub. The craftsmanship is amazing and the museum does an incredible job on maintaining this ship. Certainly worth the trip to the museum

  • 2/5 Emzi P. 1 year ago on Google
It's good to see something interesting. But disappointed that they cannot clean up the garbage along the boats and rocks. This is a tourist spot they should maintain the cleanliness. Also need more washroom as some of the corner in the area smell piss. Even the washroom along the seaport not cleaned.
