So amazing and a really neat place to do a tour! If you are sensitive like me, you just know this place is definitely haunted. The decor and history is very interesting and it’s really neat to see the many relics and items from many years ago. I would highly recommend for the paranormal enthusiast or anyone interested in San Diego history! Interesting note and fact-Whaley House was also chosen as the most haunted house in America by TIME magazine. 👻

What a fun tour! I am very into learning about the history of the places I visit and also into ghost stories. This was the perfect combination. We purchased our tickets a day in advanced. We were in town on Thanksgiving weekend so it may have been a slower time. You may need to buy your tickets a little more in advanced. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. I highly suggest taking this tour!

This was our first time to this attraction in Old Town San Diego. We had been by it many times in the past.and we finally decided to tour it. The tour was self guided. The house itself is not very big, but full of history! Really enjoyed wandering around it. It has a downstairs and upstairs portion. There is a nice courtyard on the outside with some artifacts and such. We saw or felt no paranormal activity, but you never know.

Nothing really special. Paid 25$ for an adult and a child to walk around a small old house with some old artifacts. Doesn’t explain how this house is haunted but has a little bit of cool history. Waste of time and it only has 4 small rooms to look about.

Great nighttime tour experience! Our guide Wilhelm was giving his last tour ever! He did a great job telling the history of the house and the family! He was funny, knowledgeable, and very friendly! We had ac great time experiencing our first haunted house! Thanks for the great experience! 🕯

I didn't get any haunted vibes when I visited by myself. I tried to go at a slow time, but there were too many people around me to feel the aura place. I couldn't sense any presence or anyone either. It just felt like an old house. I took many photos, sadly none of them had "glowing orbs" I've heard about. As a museum, it's neat. Lots of history and historical furniture/decor. You pay admission at the building to the right and you get a printed copy of the history of the place. The employees working there were awesome. I talked to them a bit and some of them have had hauntings while working there. Maybe I'll try again next time I'm in San Diego. Otherwise, I would recommend this place to those who are interested in historical things.

Booked the evening tour. It was fun and cool to know the history. Based on my friend that did the tour for the second time they have more insights the last time they went. Also we found out that they tour rooms in the morning that not available in the evening tour and if it’s not crowded. Still fun but hoping that could’ve seen the other rooms.

We had a delightful experience today! I am disabled and have both a wheelchair and a service dog. They were incredibly accommodating and helpful the entire time. All staff went out of their way to ensure that we had the best experience! The property is tight for a wheelchair, but they helped us navigate the narrow areas and allowed me to transfer out of my chair in order to visit the upstairs, ensuring my safety as I went up and down the stairs. On the second floor there is a theater that you can sit and listen to some of this history, which was lovely! I cannot thank the staff enough for their kindness and assistance. If you are unable to transfer from your chair to see the upstairs, the room and exhibit downstairs (as well as the accessible grounds) are well worth the visit. We're locals, so we will absolutely be back when the new exhibits open! Big shout out to Bones, who helped us navigate the building, helped with my wheelchair and transfer upstairs, shared her amazing (and sometimes creepy!) stories, and answered our bazillion questions. She took such amazing care of us and made the trip memorable! I really couldn't thank her enough! They also have a great system so you can Venmo tips in lieu of cash, which was wonderful! (And make sure you tip them, they deserve it!) Thank you for a lovely afternoon!

It has a nice peaceful courtyard area. The inside is nice. I wish the restaurant was open & the museum store had items that weren't only related to witchcraft. Otherwise, I highly recommend walking through.

Unfortunately, it was almost closing, and we had to hurry. The house is very cool, the history is interesting and I would love to go back, unfortunately was my last day there so I had to go with only 15 minutes left. I thought the lady in the beginning was very unpolite with a costumer that was taking pictures, and she thought the visitor was recording a video and she told her to stop recording in a very rude way. Very rude way. Very very very. I wish the visitor was really recording so I could post it here.

Where do I begin this place is cute the aesthetic the legends and stories surrounding this place is interesting. Our tour guide Chloe was a character she was great. Do go with an open mind. Didn’t really catch anything or feel anything malicious. There are spirits there but they are just curious. You’ll see some here and there but nothing that will make you drop your jaw . Scary. but the museum it’s cute. You have almost an hr to spend on the tour and they have a gift shop next door. There really small rooms considering. The family back in the day. Downtown was more active then house. Giving five stars cause our tour guide gave the best service

We (the family) are fans of the super natural and this was a must place to visit while in San Diego. We did some research before heading there so we didn't use the guided tour, however, if you are visiting the place while there, a guided tour is strongly suggested. The is kept incredible well conserved, once in the house, is like taking a leap back in time. We got the tickets online but they can also be purchased there.

I loved this tour. We got lucky because there wasn’t anyone else going on a tour other than us at the time. I didn’t feel like the house was extremely haunted at the time, but I think that also has to do with the fact that when we went on the tour it was daytime. However, I always had an eerie feeling while walking through the house, especially in the dining room with the red table. The tour was very interesting and informative.

The Whaley House Museum is an interesting little spot to visit and not too expensive. I heard that it was one of the most haunted houses in America and decided to see it for myself. While I didn’t actually see anything paranormal with my own eyes, I did catch some weird anomalies on camera and there is definitely a creepy vibe in here with unexplainable cold spots throughout the house. Paranormal activity aside, there is a lot of history to see and learn about here in the museum including the courthouse and theater.

I had the pleasure of going to the Whaley house 2 years before any mention of a pandemic would change the way we travel and partake in these kinds of events. The history was fantastic with the backdrop of old town San Diego. I personally did not have any ghostly experiences, the idea that one could potentially occur left a sense of anticipation the entire tour. In that regard the tour had an element of fun to it. If you are walking down the streets of Old Town, you owe it to yourself to check out this piece of history.

The Whaley house is a San Diego staple that everyone should visit, locals and visitors alike. The guides are very knowledgable, friendly and entertaining. I find the night tours to be the most fun. They are open until 9:30 so you can go on tours at night. Parking can be difficult in the area so be patient and expect to pay if you want to park nearby. One side note: if you have a hard time with stairs this may be tough. The house is two stories and half of the tour(and most interesting part in my book) is up a narrow, steep staircase. You could still go on the tour but you'll be missing half, the money wouldn't be worth it to me if I could go upstairs. One last thing, take a TON of pictures! Even if you don't think anything is there, pictures can catch what the naked eye doesn't. This is named the "most haunted house in America" for a reason. Maybe you'll bring home some cool/chilling pictures you'll be able to share with family and friends.

Loved touring the Whaley House!! I booked a package where I got to do a self-guided tour during the day, then I did a guided tour in the evening. So cool! Highly recommend doing both tours because they are different and you get a lot from both. The tour guides are dressed in Victorian Era clothes (which I love) and they are all friendly and very knowledgeable. The Whaley House is a must-see!!

The tour is great & our guide Shep who was both informative and entertaining. Although they have a schedule to keep, we never felt rushed or hurried in the house. The house had a very nostalgic feel with antiques original to the estate in place. You were separated from the antiques with ropes or barriers, it felt like you were invited into someone's home albeit one from 100 years ago. We had no experiences, but that's not saying others won't. Every bit worth the price of admission for us.

I have been wanting to come here for over 23 years now. On August 2021 I was able to walk the house from the outside since it was closed for some kind of remodeling. On July 6th, 2022 I finally got the chance to go inside. One thing my wife and I noticed was a feeling of discomfort. As if someone or something did not want us there. I personally felt very claustrophobic especially in the theater area. At some point I was sitting with my 9 month old baby in the theater, watching the film they have playing, when I felt my 8 year old daughter walk next to me. Crazy part was, my 8 year old was in one of the other rooms with my wife. I honestly felt sick and was a bit confused throughout the whole walk at the house. Not confused as if I didn't know what I was doing, but confused as in why am I feeling this mild headache and extremely uncomfortable. My wife felt sick as well. The hosts were extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Overall a very weird yet pleasant experience. For some reason when visited the house no one else was in there just us 5. Which I think was probably the best way to tour the house to avoid any "misunderstandings". Last thing, please visit the musem store next door. They have a lot of cool stuff.

I visited before lunchtime so it wasn't busy, it took around half an hour to walk around. Although it wasn't a guided tour there was an amazing guy called Shep who began by giving a little insight into the history of the house. He also made himself available for any questions about the history of the house. The reason for my visit was to encounter some spirit activity..! I wasn't disappointed, I had several experience's whilst walking around..! I would most definitely recommend a visit.!

This museum is a great representation of a home from the 1800s.There is a great backstory to the family and the spirits that reside in the house. You can take pictures but not video. Some people have caught shadows, or spirits in their photos. I personally have caught several orbs in my photos. Very fun place with a very spiritual background.

Incredibly rich in history and folklore, considered by some as the most haunted house in America, the Whaley House Museum is an intriguing and original prized possession of Old Town San Diego, certainly worth the tour. Once considered the finest mansion in southern California, the two-story Greek Revival Whaley House was built in 1857, serving throughout history in various capacities; evolving from a general store, purveyor of liquor, stoves, clothing, groceries and dry goods to a courthouse and theater into the current museum today, opened in 1960.

Had a good time hearing some local history. The presenter made the tour a little more interactive which was great. Part of the tour included the grounds of the house and the outbuildings but we basically just went outside and wrapped up there without much additional information.

They treat you with kindness and courtesy either way. Interesting information on history of founding of San Diego and California. A good place to visit a good half hour stop.

Nothing happened to me even though it's claimed to be haunted. Also, too many people trying to fit in small rooms and hallways, so be prepared to get squished. The tour itself was already explained on an 8x11in. piece of paper. Not worth the hype and ghosts aren't real. 👻👻👻 Save your money and time and go to Salem, MA for Halloween.

I was so excited to finally go see the house. I had been wanted to go for years. While the house is really cool and really unique and worth the visit. I was a little disappointed when I found out most of the stuff in the house is just there to look pretty. Since there are very few photos of the home they replicate the best they can. It's a really cool tourist sight though you should definitely stop by if your going to be in San Diego.

First off, I want to say it was a awesome experience to have came here! I’ve been to the Winchester mansion before, and honestly I didn’t expect to have felt more here than I did in the Winchester home. From the moment you come in, you already feel the energy in the room(no harmless). This house wasn’t at all what I expected. As I walked through the dinning room, our tour guide A.J.(amazing by the way) explained to us the significance of each room and what we may feel. Before walking up the stairs, I mentioned to my wife and friends that I felt a sharp pain on my chest. As we walked through the upstairs theater room, I felt a pulse feeling on the right side of my chest this time. It was really strange, but again I didn’t think anything of it because I thought it was all just in my head. As we enter the last room downstairs before heading outside, the pulse feeling I had stopped. We came to find out that one of the daughter of Mr.Whaley shot herself in the chest was brought into that room by Mr.Whaley himself. Her last moment were spent in that room with her father and we were all saddened by this. As for me, I was in shock because of the feeling I had the whole time in there and how it just stopped in that specific room. At the end of our tour, I asked A.J. where did she get shot specifically if he knew. He pointed on his chest the same spot where I was feeling the pulse through the whole trip… I woke up today with a bruise mark on the same spot he said she got shot and where I felt what I felt. This by far has been one of the best experiences I felt. I recommend anyone to go and check it out, specifically the 7 o’clock tour!

A must visit place when visiting Old Town. Reputedly haunted, one of the 4 places in San Diego that are. All the docents are dressed in period clothing and are very knowledgeable about the history of the Whaley House. Inside it is fixed up like the old days. Also a very old cemetery next to it.

Definitely worth the visit if you're into haunted locations. For $13 you can take a self guided tour of the house for as long as you want. Spent about 1.5 hours here. All the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Some of them have had paranormal encounters and others have not. One guide said he gets a lot of activity in the morning when they first open so if paranormal is your thing that's when I would visit. Went around 1030 AM and felt someone squeeze my two smallest fingers on my left hand. When talking to the staff, they said it was Mrs. Whaley or the little girl. Often people see the family dog under the table in the dining room. There are a lot of original artifacts and furniture from the era. There are plenty of rooms you can walk through that are not blocked off by glass. Highly worth your visit if you are into history as well. The Whaley House has a lot of history besides paranormal activity!

The museum docents do a 30 minute tour of the grounds outside, then give a spiel about the interior inside the courtroom and more history. After that, you're free to go around the house at your pace. Take photos. Talk with the docent near the exit of you have questions or want to learn more.

Great enthusiasm and history lesson from our tour guide. Extremely overpriced, $70 bucks (with tax) for a family of 3 for a 20 minute tour plus tip for tour guide. I’ve lived in SD for 6 years, always eager to try it and it’s incredibly hard to justify the $20+ ticket price. This is the definition of a tourist trap.

I'm 65, raised I n the area, and thus was my first visit. It was worth 14.00( but no more). We started out with a guide who explained the history of the house, and it was fascinating ! We're positive that someone peeked out the upstairs window at us, yet there is no access to the room. Thebowners had a tragic life, and ghosts are supposed to be lurking . We did have the window experience, and then we caught a face looking at us in the parlor room. Only when we got home and looked at our pictures ! We had a fun day ,learned some history , and enjoyed the beautiful house and the weather. Then we walked all over Old Town and, again ,had a blast. A side note that those stores are marked up at least 300% ! If you like it, shop around. We found a cute pink chicken dish for 39.00 got home and found exact chicken for 17.00

Absolutely a must see when visiting the San Diego area! The vibes alone make it beyond worth it. So much history can be discovered here! Not to mention all the great unique little shops and food choices. If you ever wanted to know what the old we felt like this is by far the best living representation of it.

There are a few options to visit the house at different hours, so make sure to check out the website and reserving before coming! We went with an evening guided tour, which has its first tour at 5 pm. If you want to go before 5 pm I suggest looking at self-guided tours. Make sure to check in for your tour at the shop at the side of the house. The tour was shorter than I thought but it was so fun! It’s contents were the perfect balance between historical facts about the town and Whaley house and ghost stories. Regardless if you’re a sensitive, believer, or a skeptic, this tour is really nice specially if you’re into history. The house is well maintained as well and decorated with furniture of the time. Tours end with a q&a with the guide so you have opportunities to ask more questions. Our tour guide, Ghoulie Julie was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and funny. We loved her!

To be honest I was expecting something else and longer (litterally 15 minutes tour). I don't think it worth the price. I appreciated the effort of the guide that did his best to scare the visitors and eas very acknowledged about the history and fact of the Whaley family. Most of the furniture were original, some are replicas and some rooms are closed in the late tours. Btw do not expect anything paranormal to happend...it was very quiet to be "The most hanted house of US". The visit is worthy but not at that price and for sure is a ONE SHOT place. You do not really need to come back.

It's closed on Wednesday's. We didn't know about this house when we went to old town SD on a Wednesday but we still got to walk around the outside of the house.

This place was so cool with so much history! One of the docents was so knowledgeable and my fiancé and I were able to have good conversation with him! Can't wait to go back!

It was a very nice historic home and the guides inside of the building were very helpful especially the guide in the courthouse. I wish I had taken more pictures, but one thing that I was told by one of the guys was that the house itself was original but a lot of the furniture and carpet was replaced!

My tour guide was very fun and knowledgeable. She definitely helped make the experience a lot better. The stories behind the family members that used to live there are so fascinating. Our guide even shared her own personal ghost story when she was closing up after hours. Obviously a very touristy place when visiting Old Town San Diego, but fun nonetheless. Highly recommend this place for ghost hunters and all tourists looking for a place filled with fun and rich history.

The Whaley house was an incredible sight to see. We packed all 18 of our selves in the large chambers and were encapsulated by Emily Rose’s incredible tour guiding. Emily’s wit and story telling establishes the true horrors that the Whaley Family experienced. For returning one local (myself) and a non SD native, we were both taken away by the beautiful rooms and chilling tales of the Whaley House.

Located in the heart of old town San Diego, the whaley house is claimed to be one of the most haunted houses in america. We loved it! But we also love history and old stuff, so if that's not your thing then dont bother. The place is thick with energy, and I recommend not missing it.

I’ve been to the Whaley House each time I’ve been in San Diego. It’s a must do for anyone interested in SD history, paranormal history or historic homes. I would suggest reading or watching a reputable documentary about the Whaley family before you visit, because some knowledge will make your experience more profound, but the docents are very knowledgeable too. After my last trip, I experienced chest pains and a sense of sorrow. Maybe it was the ghost of Violet Whaley, who shot her self in the chest and died on the site? Try to go at night or on a weekday. The house does get hot and crowded at peak times, and so the vibe isn’t as spooky. I would suggest to the site that they limit the number of people allowed in the house at one time to prevent overcrowding. Overall, a really interesting site in Old Town!
